This is the third Tally and the Angel book, and is set in Japan. It’s a fantastic continuation of the series! I love how readers get to explore different parts of the world through Tally’s travels and discover unique supernatural phenomena in the places she ends up.

Tally and the Angel is a great series for preteens who love learning about different cultures! Tally is a great heroine, always curious and good at making friends and getting into (and out of!) trouble. Tally’s new friends in this book, Yoshi and Miyu, help her explore Japan and share their family histories.

This is another five star book for me! I’m really enjoying this series! I would recommend starting from the first book, set in India, but there’s an introduction that gets you caught up if you’re particularly interested in Japan and want to jump in at this book.

This book is the second in the series, and a great continuation of the story. It was an easy book to engage with and I found myself picking up the story with no effort, as though I had read it straight after the first. I was excited to see where the author would take the story next.
I thought the characters were all interesting. They each had a part to play I loved how every one developed. The author has a detailed way of writing. It was easy to visualise what was being described and, for me, that made the book more interesting to read. I thought this was a thoroughly enjoyable book and I am looking forward to the next one.

This was an interesting take on a sleeping beauty retelling. This book has friends to lovers romance, forbidden love, fate, action, drama and more. Everything happens very quick in this books, you’re reading their journey and next thing you know they are there. This also happens with tasks, the author will mention something that needs happen for the story to continue but it’s not actually written about. We just know it happens and that’s it.

Outside of some of the details this was a good take on sleeping beauty!

First of all, if you haven’t read the first two book in this series, you will definitely want to pick them up!!! C. B. Lyall is such a unique author that tells stories in a way that just sits you right down in the plot and takes you along for the journey. You really feel like you’re in the adventure right along with Wilf, and finding things out as he does. This is the perfect YA for anyone who enjoys Magic, coming of age stories, family drama, or finding identity overtures.

Wilf continues in his quest to be finally free from all the magic that seems to be unwilling to let him go. Unfortunately it looks like he will not be able to return to his “Normal” life as he would wish it to be. What I love about the third book in the series, is watching Wilf attempt to control the magic that he hates, in order to possibly be rid of it for good. It brings up a lot of conflicting feeling for the reader, especially if you err on the side of enjoying magic LOL.

When Wilf finds a piece of the shattered Mages Crystal, he starts to question so many things. The biggest heartbreak is watching Wilf’s affection for Katryna come into question. Their love story is so cute and sweet to watch unfold, and now I’m finding everything I loved about them come into question.

Overall there are so many choices Wilf has had to make. Watching him struggle through forever abandoning his dream to return to “normal” or allowing magic and Katryna to perish *sad*.

Thank you to the author for this incredibly fun series, and sharing it with the world. Lovely characters, fully dynamic quests in a very streamlined easy to understand world, and just wonderfully exciting to read!

Tally is now taking us on an adventure to Japan in this 3rd installment of this series. This series is enjoyable for all ages and I do recommend reading this series in order from the beginning. I loved the first two books….book 3 was really good but some of the parts in the book took me a bit to get through.

Tally, her angel Jophiel and Tally’s father are onto Japan as Tally stays with a family while Tally’s father is off to work for a bit. The family that Tally stays with teaches Tally the customs and ways of Japan, while also exploring different areas, museums and the art of sumo wrestling and also meets new friends in Yoshie and Miyu. As Tally gets to know Yoshie and Miyu and learn from them she also is roped into a mystery herself that is full of a new challenge and Tally must be brave in order to save the day.

This is a very good story. I loved how the author really detailed the different Japanese customs and traditions into the story. I am hoping to read more adventures from Tally in the future!!

Loved the story line even as an adult, and much in the lines of Percy Jackson, Wings of Fire, Harry Potter; yet less dark so suitable for audiences of all ages. I enjoyed the banter between the two main characters, Frank and Jon, and the connection they have being twins.

The role of minor characters is also important in this book, which I think sends a positive message that not everyone needs to be a lead character/person to make an impact in the world. The mystery aspect of this book was intriguing, and even as an adult I didn’t guess the culprit until he was revealed. I enjoyed learning about the different classes the 10 year olds attend, and the author does a great job “showing” instead of boringly giving a syllabus. Overall, I recommend this read!

This middle grades book is a great one for kids from 4th- 7th grade and beyond. The characters – the twins, Jon and Frankie are likable. It was fun to read about their discovery of their own special gifts, going to boarding school, and making new friends! I liked that each student of the school had their own special teacher based on their specific gift. I know Jon wasn’t too happy with his teacher at first (cleaning the house and yard were not his gift!), and he had a hard time with learning how to control his gift and the nightmares were not fun. And while all this is happening, Jon and Frankie are still just typical kids – wanting friendships, playing soccer and missing their mom, dad and brother.

Teenage Wilf only wants to be a teenager, live a normal life in Hong Kong, and play soccer but gets thrust suddenly into the world of magic. He is on the adventure of a lifetime when he is called upon to use his magic. Witches and wizards are along for the ride as he finds himself in the realm of magic which was once divided between the two and now everyone are Mages. Traveling through dark and foggy forests to save his love Katryna and the other witches, he meets many other incredible characters along the way. I love how all the characters have distinct personalities and come to life off the pages, but my favorite must be the cranky witch Ermentrude. The adventures that Wilf takes are incredible through the three books in this series and I highly recommend reading them from the beginning. Who doesn’t want to be a magical being and have fairy tale adventures. The book is well written and easy to read and full of fun. The settings are so well written that I can almost feel the fog swirling around my legs and the damp and drafty air of the old workshops and buildings. I can hear the Watchers as they come crashing in the dark and can totally see myself fighting to do the right thing just like Wilf himself. Definitely a must read for those YA readers who love magic, adventure, and a hero that you can get behind and cheer for!

Huli is a nine tailed fox demon that is hunted because of that and does what he must to survive.

Xiao Ying returns home to a family of healers to find them all murdered and vows to avenge them. This causes him to seek evidence he needs and not letting anything stand in his way until he meets a certain nine tailed demon.

After reading Afflicted Love, this was in a different genre of M/M novels. I really needed that after such an emotional read.

I enjoyed the different POVs but I loved the story in general. There were some funny moments but the romance, of course, is what hooked me the most. I wanted to know how Huli and Xiao Ying would get to that point and how the confession would go. How the journey would bring them close together.

It was fun read and I may read it again.

Japan is the third book in the Tally and the Angel series by Eleanor Dixon.
This is the first of the series I read, so was a little confused with some details and I had to research the background. Tally, her dad and her angel Jophiel go to Japan on an adventure and learn about Japanese history, culture and traditions. She makes friends with Yoshie and Miyu and hits off instantly. But then a mystery unfolds itself and it is upto Tally and her “not-so-predictable” angel Jophiel to solve it, There is a ghost queen, sumo wrestling and a cursed drum in the centre of this mystery.

It’s an interesting plot, I wish I had read the books in order . It can be read as a standalone book but some research has to be done to understand who is who.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book nevertheless.

Wow, what a book this was. I knew from the description that I was going to enjoy this book but I was surprised by how much the story pulled me in. I loved the world that it was based in. It was imaginative and so interesting. The combination of characters the author introduced fit perfectly. I could easily visualise what was going on from the writing.
This is a new author to me and I have to say I enjoyed everything about this book. The writing drew me in and the story and the characters kept my attention. This book also has one of my favourite covers that I have seen this year. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.

Hope and Lies is the first book in the Abredea series. C.H. Lyn carefully intertwines three compelling storylines in this dystopian fantasy. It is told through multiple POV’s and different timelines.
With destruction, secret rebellions, politics, caste systems, kidnappings, supernatural powers, traitors, sacrifices, domination and control and family there is something for all lovers of dystopian tales.
There is desperation, grief, pain, hope, love and wonder. I was so immersed in the story that the pages just flew by.
A cleverly crafted tale where the worldbuilding is spot on, a well-written storyline and has three wonderfully intriguing plots. The diverse cast of characters are well written and interesting, and you become invested in them.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series. Dystopian fans will love it.

Secrets of the Sorcery War is the second book in the Ruarnon Trilogy and Elise’s second book. It is a YA fantasy tale. The adventure continues on from the first book Manipulator’s War.
As with the first book it was hard for me to fully engage in the story because it was a bit choppy meaning the story didn’t flow as seamlessly as it could have. Elise’s is a very vivid storyteller however at times the story became bogged down with too much information. It is good to see that Elise’s writing has grown from Manipulators War and I expect that I will see more growth in the next book as she settles into her writing style and develop her storytelling.
Ruanon, Linh and the gang are back to sail the seas and to face off with a sorcerer-king Nartzeer. To find out if he is evil or not you will have to read it for yourself.
Elise has created intriguing LBGTQ+ all-inclusive characters. With the MC’s being asexual and nonbinary. This story has action and adventure, things that go bump in the night, murder and mayhem, myths and lore, assassins and magic, drama and sorcerers and more.
I look forward to reading the final book in the trilogy Land of the Clouded. If you love adventure stories, then take a chance on this YA trilogy.

Secrets of the Sorcery War is the second instalment in the Raurnon Trilogy by Elise Carlson. This continues the adventure we started in Book One, so I highly recommend reading the previous book before starting on this one as the first book contains important information, character introductions, backstory, and other relevant details that you really should know in order to fully appreciate this second instalment.
This is a YA LGBTQ+ action-adventure fantasy with a non-binary MC, challenges, drama, secrets, magic, a quest, and high stakes.
Ruarnon (and co) are about to be challenged like never before as they face off against a formidable foe- the sorcerer king. But things aren’t going to be straight-forward- bit first they will need to find the right allies for the quest. Let the adventure begin. What ensues makes for an interesting read.
Although I was a little more ‘settled’ in this story than I was in the first, I still wasn’t as immersed and invested as I would have liked to have been. I still haven’t fully connected with the character/s, which then made it difficult to fully appreciate them and the outcome of their story. The story does lag and drag a bit in parts, and was also quite ‘wordy’ too, which made for some slow-going reading. Again, I found my attention wandering, but not as much as the first book, as I had to keep reminding myself to stay focused on what was happening. There is also a lot of detail, which is great in part, because it helped me to visualize everything- but I felt that there were times that the descriptions were a bit of an over-kill and became more like an info dump. Some elements were over-detailed, and other aspects that I felt were more relevant seemed almost skirted over. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy this book, more than the first, and I’m interested to see how things will play out in ‘Land of the Clouded Sky’, the third and final book in the trilogy- as maybe everything will final ‘fall into place’ for me there.

Wilf has had so much happen in the last two books, that this third and final book brings so much to an interesting ending. He basically has to choose between going back to Earth, or stay in the magic realm, and help keep magic alive. He has to go through a lot of adventures to find his way, figure out his destiny, his magic, and figure out his love for Katryna. This was a great third book for the trilogy. Thank you for all you did for this trilogy!

The story continues the adventures of The Manipulator’s War. If you are into stories that include the LGBTQ+ genre and love the YA fantasy adventure, you’ll enjoy this. Ruanon, Linh and the others are so well-written. I can’t say they are relatable but you do feel their challenges. The adventure and drama they face keep you involved in the story until the very end. That’s what keeps the story intriguing.

I enjoyed reading this fantasy book. I found this book to be well written and hard to put down. A story where the characters take you on an adventure across the sea, to rescue people from a king that may not be as bad as they say. An adventure that is non stop and kept me turning pages fast just to see what would happen next. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their world. They are connectable and strong characters that had to the stories entertainment value for sure. They have great growth throughout the story which makes it easy to read. What happens in this story is something you don’t want to miss. I really enjoyed this story and I highly recommend it.

Tally’s adventures have taken her, her dad, and her guardian angel Jophiel to India, Canada, and now Japan. I was most looking forward to this adventure! While it’s still really enjoyable, it’s not as exciting of a read as I was anticipating. However, there is a cursed drum, sumo wrestlers, and a ghost queen who will really keep you wondering what she’s going to do next!

Tally meets Miyu and Yoshi when she arrives in Japan. They are just as excited as she is to have a new friend. They speak amazing English and really hit it off pretty quickly. Tally learns that Miyu’s family used to own a museum and Miyu knows a lot of the family history. Yoshi comes from a long line of sumo wrestlers and he’s going for his interview to be accepted into the academy. They spend time outside of their schoolwork playing with a drum that seems to have some sort of special powers.

I was really sad when Jophiel started to act the way he did in this book. I wanted to smack some sense into him!! Overall, I do think he might be my favorite character in all the books that I’ve read in this series.

I do highly recommend reading these books in order, although one could skip around. It would bring about some confusion as to Jophiel’s backstory if you don’t read them in order and some of the character names would be a mystery. I’ve really enjoyed reading this series and I’m hoping that we’ll have more adventures with Tally and Jophiel to read about soon!

I do believe this is my favorite book of the series. I also recommend reading them in order although the author does a good job of catching the reader up to speed on how Jophiel came to be.

Tally and her dad have had their adventure in India and now it’s time to move on to Canada. They are in need of a doctor up there and since Tally’s dad is a doctor, they make the trek there. While there, Tally is excited to learn how to run a sled dog team. As a matter of fact, on the first day there, she gets to drive them for a small bit! Tally’s struggling to adjust to the massive temperature differences between India and Canada too. Here she can’t see anything but eyeballs on the people she meets!

There’s this man named Earl and his daugther Amka who come to take Tally and her dad to the place where they will stay. Something is pretty sinister about Earl, at least to Tally and Jophiel. Then Tally learns about a curse and the Gold Rush and things, well, just aren’t as they seem.

This book was so much fun to read and as previously mentioned, is my favorite in this series. There is a lot of mystery in this one, as well as adventure. This is a middle school level book but I thoroughly enjoyed it as a middle ager!

What a fun adventure story!! This book is geared towards middle grades, ages 7-12, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult!

We meet Tally at a really bad time in her life. She’s just lost her precious mother, whom she loves so dearly. Before taking a trip, her dad gifts her with a pendant. In that pendant lives a guardian angel named Jophiel. Tally is thinking that she’s going to be sent away to boarding school but instead talks her dad into letting her join him on his journey to India. It’s there that Tally makes two really great friends but they had no idea the horrible adventure that awaited them!

I LOVED this book!! There is mystery and adventure, cultural changes, grief and loss, as well as bravery and compassion in this book. I devoured this book pretty quickly as it was just that exciting! My heart broke for Tally and honestly, I struggled reading this book because I too, just lost my mom recently. I love how this book focuses on having a friend(s) nearby to help in times of sadness. This would be a great book for summer reading!!

In this book we go on an adventure with Tally, her dad and Tally’s angel Jophiel to Japan. As they explore the Japanese culture, history, and traditions. Tally is a strong, courageous, brave smart young girl. This is the third book in this series and even thou you could get away with reading then not in order I feel you would miss out on the way tally matures and how she grows into the young women she will be. This book is well written that it feels like you are standing there in the book. I absolutely love how tally seems to find something interesting to get herself involved in and then have us wondering how and when she’s going to get herself out. A mystery that surrounds around Miyu and Yoshi, a ghostly queen, mystical beings, warriors, secrets and curses. This is an incredible read that had me wanting to know what was going to happen net, I could not put it down.

This middle grade fantasy book is like Avengers ,Twilight or any other super hero book/movie where every child finds out that he/she has a super natural power. They find out the power, they struggle to gain control over it. They have to go to a gifted school or a school of magic where they have to be trained to control their power. There they face challenges and it is upto them to face the hurdles and emerge victorious with their evolving powers.
I love these type of books. This book is centred around twins Frank and Jon, who figure out they have fascinating abilities, one can read minds and other can see future. But the gifts are never gifts, one has to pay the price. They are to attend a new school, and Jon gets into trouble. Will Frank and his new friends help Jon from the trouble and getting expelled?
I enjoyed it thoroughly, it was an easy read and I hope to read many more of this series.

Jonathan and Franklin Reed are twin boys living in Florida with their family, which consists of their parents, Aunt Gladys, older brother Eugene, younger brother Peter, and younger sister Clara. The bossy life is pretty typical, until just after they turn 10. Then Jonathan begins to see shadows of events that happen shortly after, while Franklin starts to hear voices that nobody else hears. At first, the boys keep these new abilities to themselves, until one night Franklin has a nightmare that he is almost unable to wake up from. That’s when his mother calls in an old friend who looks at the boys and figures out what is going on with them. The friend, as well as the mother, has gifts, for the mom, it’s being an empathy, which she puts to work in her job as a cop. For the friend, it’s being able to hear other peoples thoughts, much like Frank. Jon on the other hand has a much rarer gift, the ability to see the future. The twins head off to a school in Washington state for people with just such gifts. Here they find friends, mentors and others like them, but also danger and trouble.

This book is an excellent read. I would recommend it for anyone over the age of about 10, who likes magic, mystery and friendship. I truly cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Foxy Tails by Natalina Reis is a beautifully created MM fantasy, with a world that is so unique. I absolutely loved it! The story reminded me of a powerful anime adventure. Intriguing and entertaining with just the right amount of romance. It was very enjoyable to discover Huli and Xiao’s relationship along with them. It felt natural and relatable. If this is what I have to look forward to, I will absolutely be looking for more works by Natalina Reis. This was the first MM fantasy romance I have read…but it won’t be the last. Fantasy is usually not by go-to genre, but the synopsis hooked me and I’m glad I took a chance on it.

Huli is a nine-tailed fox that is hunted for being considered a demon. One day, he crosses paths with Xiao Ying. Xiao Ying is determined to live a life of solitude while he hunts down those that murdered his entire family, As Huli, Xiao Ying, and Ling (Huli’s best friend) find themselves on their own adventure, feelings between Huli and Xiao Ying grow stronger. Be prepared, though, this book ends with quite a cliffhanger.

This is book of magical characters and a world unlike any other. For the time I was reading this book, I was transported to that world and it was quite an adventure. There were parts of the book that felt a little rushed…but overall, a very good story that I enjoyed reading!

I hadn’t read anything by Natalina Reis before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect going in. I’m happy to say that this will NOT be my last book from this author! I absolutely loved everything about Foxy Tails. I genuinely appreciated that they put a list of the characters in the beginning of the book so I could keep everyone sorted in my head. It does start out a little bit slow, but once I got in the rhythm of things I couldn’t pull myself away! The author does a marvelous job creating this magical MM adventure with the in-depth characters and intricate world-building. I am absolutely picking up other works by Natalina Reis because I need more. I highly recommend giving Foxy Tails a chance especially if you love MM fantasy romance!

  1. What a whimsical and fun romantasy read. With some MM romance as the cherry on top! We have our leading nine tailed fox man named Huli. Who is just as mischievous as you think. And Xiăo Ying is introduced when Huli needs somewhere to be while on the run. They are both broken in their own ways and I love a good broken character. Overall a good fun read.
