This is book two in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries by Byrd Nash. The author most definitely did not disappoint. I absolutely loved every aspect of this book, the characters are so easily to fall in love with, and the main plot is excellently woven, with a great complimented sub-plot. Madame Chalamet has been invited to The Winter Revels, a royal arts and skills competition the King throws every year, this year the main competition is cooking. In attendance is most of the nobility and a few commoners, including Mysir de Archambeau. Competing in the competition is her favorite Chef from the Crown Hotel. Madame Chalamet and Dr. LaRue have already found trouble before they even step off the train and they must absolutely help Lady Tulip Langenberg. An attempt on the King’s life makes for an interesting mystery; who in a house full of people want the King dead? Both Mysir de Archambeau and Madame Chalamet must get to the bottom of the assassination attempt, while Madame Chalamet is balancing trying to help Lady Tulip, and also has been called upon to help an older Widow let go of her husband who has been dead for five years. Will they be able to help everyone who needs their attention? What if they cannot uncover who tried to kill the King? Will the person try again? On top of these mysteries, the relationship between Madame Chalamet and the Duke is strengthening and seems to be more than platonic, at least I hope it will be! Cannot wait till I can read book three!

I did enjoy this book. This author has created a vibrant world that captures the attention of the reader. The story of Jenna’s life and how she has to maneuver through her world hiding who she is proved to be interesting and I found myself vested in her and her story. This book is good and I look forward to reading more from this author.

If you are looking for a mystery with some fantasy, then this quick read is for you.

Whispers in the Water by Sarah Chislon tells the story of gently-bred herbalist Jessa Caldwell as she goes on a journey to help her aunt. This seemingly secret journey her aunt is taking her on takes her away from home to a town near an Otherworldly Crossing, which runs the risk of having dangerous interactions with fae. Will Jessa be able to help her aunts friend and townsfolk by solving a mystery that can expose her own secret?

This slow burn was extremely well written and full of well thought out characters. Even though the book was short in length, it was full of descriptions and story building. I look forward to continuing Jessa’s story and can’t wait to see what mysteries she will be solving next.

In the second book of the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries, Elinor has not been very busy since the first book. But that doesn’t diminish the story at all but actually enhances it by adding a new ghost, we learn a bit more about Elinor and her friends/acquaintances, and of course more about her search. I couldn’t stop reading and finished it within a day and a half.

This is the first book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries. The author writes wonderfully and gets you hooked on learning about Madame Elinor Chalamet who has been studying to become a medium. She has a personal reason to study this, to find out who killed her father. While on this quest, she is helping the police whenever she can.

Although this book is a novella, it keeps your attention with suspense, romance, and a strong woman character in Elinor. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest of the books in the series.

This book was very enjoyable to read. It is what I would describe as a Cozy Paranormal. Even with this book being cozy paranormal for me, it also included that bit of a mystery with Elinor Chalamet trying to discover the mystery of a widow and her long-since-deceased husband. I also quite enjoyed the banter and budding romance between Elinor and the Duke. Something that made me like this book almost instantly was the main character herself; Elinor. Elinor is who sees these ghosts, and I was immediately drawn to her wit and independent nature. I also enjoyed the relationship between her and Dr. Charlotte. They are two peas-in-a-pod with how Elinor is a Medium, and Charlotte is Mortician. The prose are nicely done as well, had awesome dialogue, and is not a intense read. I was able to finish this in two days. Highly recommend if you are looking for a light, witty, and humorous read about the after life ,with an independent female main character in the 1800s of a London-like- society.

What would you do if your true passion was also something that cause those you love distress? Would you fight for what you love? Couldn’t you also fight for what’s right? Even at the risk of everything you love and have ever cared about? I really enjoyed the complex nature of this short fantasy about a lady’s resolve to do right by her family and the freedom that comes with this kind of genre. I feel like the author covered a lot of ground in this book and loved the fae aspect!

The is a short prequel which seems to prepare us for the later series by introducing the main character Jessa and allows us to get to know her as the story progresses. We come to know her secrets and fears and her past and leaves us speculating what will happen next. Jessa’s compassion and concerns make her a relatable character and her relationships with those around her feel real to me.
I thought the world created was well-written and the combination of the more unique fae elements with the better known and ‘real’ world was captivating. I enjoyed the period setting and how the pressures of societal norms incorporated the fantasy (fae) side of things. It was clear to me that this prequel only dipped its toe into the waters of the world building and character development, and I am keen to read more about Jessa and the challenges she faces.
I look forward to reading the rest of this series and can see it becoming a favourite of mine if this book is anything to go on!

I really enjoyed this fantasy mystery read! I loved the main character Jessa and reading from her point of view. She unknowingly gets swept up into a mystery unsure if she will be able to even help her Aunt Caris. As Jessa tries to learn more about her aunts friend and the mill she gets closer to unchartered territory. She has to be careful with how she proceeds as secrets are uncovered. Jessa will choose what to share and what to keep hidden if she is to be of any help at all. I am definitely looking forward to the next book to dig deeper into Jessa’s world!

Jessa, a lady in current society lives with her father sisters and Aunt.
After her mothers death she begins to hear whispering and plants talk to her , a sign in her society of “the Fae touch” which will send you straight to an asylum if someone finds out. So Jessa represses these whispers and ignores them as if they aren’t there…
That is until her Aunt has to travel to a border town near the Fae to deal with an old friend and Jessa will have to confront these lingering whispers head on in order to save a town and friends she comes to care a great deal about while traveling with her Aunt.
Is she willing to expose what she can hear and that she may be “fae touched” in order to save others or can she find a way to save others and herself?
This was a fun read Jessa is a quick thinking puzzle enthusiast. The book is also written with dialog reflecting a different time period which really captured my attention.
Definitely worth a download!

Really good storyline. This is the first time for me reading something from this author. The main character is very interesting and relatable. The story started a little slow for my taste but it definitely picks up and gets pretty good. Definitely excited to immerse myself in this world again. This book is worth a read.

I didn’t realise going into this book it was a short book so was a little disappointed initially. However, that soon dissipated when I started reading. The author has managed to pack so much into this book that it really didn’t feel like anything was missing. If was an interesting storyline. I loved discovering all about this world.
The characters fit well with the story b the author was trying to tell. The were easy to connect with and I wanted to find see where their journeys would take them. This is a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed and vin am looking forward to the next book.

This is the first book in the Book Of Fae series. It was a really entertaining story and a great start to the series. I love how the author wrote the story in the same way that the people of that era would talk and how the customs and peoples perceptions of magic and things they don’t understand is portrayed along with historical references.
This story has it all from danger and intrigue, to mystery and magic there is something for everyone.
Jessa is a young woman who is trying her hardest to fit into the accepted role of Lady in her society. However she is far from a normal Lady. She has a secret and it is one she needs to keep locked away unless she wants to end up in an institution.
When she joins her aunt on a journey to help a friend in need she gets more than she was expecting. There are secrets to uncover, a mystery to solve and someone out to cause harm to her aunt and the town she has come to care for.
Can she discover this person’s identity before its too late? Can she keep her own secret intact to protect herself? And what happens when secrets she didn’t know existed start to reveal themselves.

I enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to see where the series will go next.

This is an enjoyable and engaging novella, in which Jessa Caldwell is a gently-bred herbalist, who is trying to be a lady whilst concealing her true nature. Jessa spends her days with her plants doing sketches, but only she knows that she hears whispers. When her beloved aunt is threatened, Jessa travels to a town which is dangerously close to an Otherworldly Crossing, where there is an ever-present risk of fae incursions. In order for her aunt to be protected, Jessa must find the individual who is responsible for a series of dangerous attacks.
However, it means embracing the part of herself that she keeps hidden out of fear of her true nature being exposed. Jessa lives in a world where Vigilists lock up fae-touched mortals, but if she’s to discover the truth and protect her love ones she will have to take that risk. This short read is a prequel to a new series, and it sets up the storyline and characters well. I enjoyed the mystery element which kept me hooked, and the setting was brought to life by the descriptive narrative. Jessa is a great heroine and I look forward to reading about more of her adventures.

Elinor Chalamet and Tristan Fontaine, the Duke de Archambeaux return, but this time, they are both guests of the King at the Winter Revels, a culinary competition to find the best chef, Elinor is happy to know that a friend of hers is one of the chefs competing, so when she receives an invite, she is ecstatic, so she takes her friend along with her for company. While traveling, she encounters a young lady in need of aid, so she does what she does best and helps a person in distress, even though as usual, it puts her at odds with people and ruffles some feathers all at the same time.

When she arrives at the charming town of Vouvant, she can see how the Winter Revels are welcomed by the establishments where they sell their wares to the tourists and holiday maker with abandon, but she runs into the same young lady and comes to the rescue again, however, the outcome is more positive for her, than the last one. After the first welcome meal and the opportunity to meet the chefs and sample some of the upcoming victuals, she runs into the Duke de Archambeaux, as well as spotting someone she may need to help during her time there, a grieving widow and her son, so tired and satisfied, she goes to bed, however, she is woken in the middle of the night by the Duke in need of her and her friends help, much to their chagrin.

It turns out that there had been an assassination attempt on the King and that her help is needed to find the individual responsible, however, when the finger is pointed at her friend, the chef, she is determined to uncover the culprit and show that her friend is innocent of the crime. Will Elinor be able to solve the crime while also helping out the young lady and the widow all at the same time, or will it all become too overwhelming for her to cope with? This is another fast paced mystery where spirits and food combine with delicious, yet dangerous consequences, all while romance slowly kindles between Elinor and the Duke.

The main character, Jessa, is an herbalist who lost her mom when she was young. When her aunt goes on a trip, Jessa tags along to sketch the countryside. The characters are loveable, and the story is well written. I enjoyed reading how Jessa found herself in the process of solving the mystery. Chilson combined mystery and fantasy and fae extremely well. It left me anxious for more!

Elinor Chalamet is a woman with an unusual talent, she is a Ghost Talker and can communicate with spirits so that they can pass through to the afterlife, but she also uses her talents to try and find her fathers killer, however, so far she has had little success. One day she receives a summons from the local morgue with a request for her aid with a body which has been found in the canal, however, when she arrives there, she is not expected by everyone and when she reveals what information she is able to, the Duke de Archambeaux, Tristan Fontaine is quite perturbed and insists on Elinor being escorted to his house where she will have to remain under house arrest.

Elinor is not impressed by this and so requests her belongings and her maid to be moved to his home, so that she can still undertake her work in a professional manner, the Duke is reluctant, but when she insists, he allows it, but only if he can vet her correspondence and clients first. This is not something Elinor is happy about, but she obliges and makes it as tedious for the Duke as possible, as it is very much entertaining for her to ruffle his feathers and put him in his place, however, this abrupt and outspoken attitude is not well received by the others living with the Duke.

As the investigation proceeds, Elinor is called upon to help, but as danger and intrigue surround her, will she be able to keep her head and not allow any antagonistic circumstances, or her budding attraction to the Duke de Archambeaux overwhelm her? This is a mystery where nothing is as it seems and the dark underbelly beneath the picturesque setting of Alenbonné is revealed.

I love the tough and wity heroine and the banter with her male cohort. Quality writing and an excellent cast of characters. I wonder what will happen next?

Jessa Caldwell is a young woman with a secret, she belongs to a loving family, but she is nothing like her other two sisters who are made for society and are the proper young ladies her aunt prefers and who Jessa is trying to emulate, but Jessa is more outspoken and arty in nature, she prefers to spend her time sketching and tending her plants, while learning about their herbal uses. One day her aunt receives some troubling correspondence and decides to undertake a journey because of this, Jessa is suspicious, as it is completely out of character, but her aunt will not open up to her and as her sisters are not available to go with her, so Jessa insists on accompanying her aunt on the journey, despite her protestations.

While they travel, the whispers that Jessa hears on a day to day basis become louder and more insistent, but she keeps this hidden from her aunt, as such a thing is frowned upon in society and anyone who is considered “fae-touched” is reported to the Vigilists, a group of people who lock those who can hear the fae whispers, like Jessa, locked up. This is the reason that the destination is dangerous for both Jessa and her aunt, as it is near an Otherworldly Crossing, a place where the fae are more prevalent and anyone fae-touched is more at risk of discovery. Jessa uses her coping mechanisms to ignore the whispers and when they eventually arrive at their destination, she is exhausted, as is her aunt, so they decide to stay at an inn for the evening, but there is a commotion there when they arrive and they learn about just how dangerous this town near a crossing can be.

As the days pass, a series of dangerous attacks occur around the town and Jessa has to make a decision which could change her life forever, someone is guilty of sabotage and she is the only one who can solve the mystery, but if she does, then she risks being reported to the Vigilists. Will Jessa risk everything to solve the mystery, or will all her efforts be in vain? This is a fast paces fantasy novel containing mythical elements, as well as a mystery which will hook you in and leave you wanting to know how the story ends.

This book was written by a new author to me, so I was not sure what to expect. I picked it up because I though the cover was beautiful and had a cat on it. What I found inside was a remarkable story with a phenomenal protagonist. She is such a caring individual that overcomes her fears to protect the people she loves the most. The writer did an amazing job capturing the true human essence as well as the plants, animals, and land around them. I want to be a part of this world. It was a bit wordy at times, but nothing that deterred me from the story. I found this to be a wonderful read and I hope that she will continue this story.

While this is a very quick read (it’s the prequel to the series and a novella) it was a slow start and I had a hard time staying interested. HOWEVER, once the story got going, I was hooked. I love the premise: hidden identity…forced to protect her loved ones and town which means she has to reveal her true self…it’s great. I’m excited to continue this series. I love Chislon’s character development and her world building is fantastic. This read was definitely outside of my typical genres, but I’m glad I picked it up! I definitely recommend this novella and I’m looking forward to continuing the Blood of the Fae series.

The author did a great job with the thought process of the characters and plot. I feel like the author had put way too much details in parts where it wasn’t needed. The book started out slow but it eventually picks back up. The book was a mix of fantasy and mystery all in one. It was a great read.

Jessa lives with her father, two sisters and her Aunt Carisa in Avons. After her mothers death Jessa begins to hear whispers which points to what Avons refers to as ‘The Fae Touch’ now trying to avoid being sent away her father and aunt advise her to control her emotions and thus, control the whispers.

Jessa is able to keep control for a while until she goes to the lands near the world of the Others at which the Whispers she has kept hold of she will have to open herself to in order to protect her family and the ones she loves. What will she do? And can she do it while trying to remain a lady?

This book was really good! Honestly, I knew I would love it from the synopsis. Everything about it pointed to something that would interest me and this author delivered. I loved the way Jessa’s character was developed and her heart of trying to do right by her family and be a lady but also keep them safe as well. For a shorter book it delivered with much descriptiveness and an intriguing storyline. Can’t wait to see more from this author and read more from this world.

I would give this a 4 out of 5 stars. If you like fae and fantasy, otherworldly threats this book would be perfect for you. It is written in a more traditional style and I wasn’t sure how I would enjoy that but honestly it really made the book stand out to me.

This is the second book to the Kingdom of the elf series. I did not read the first one to this series. But I have to say this book still didn’t disappoint. I will be going back and reading the first book thou, this book really made me want to. The characters were very well written that I didn’t feel the need like I was missing out on something when it was mentioned. It was so well written I did feel lost and confused. This book was very fast paced, that I just couldn’t read it fast enough to know what was going on and know what was going to happen next. This book took a hold of me and wouldn’t let me go till I was done reading. I will also be differently looking for the next book to this series. Very entertaining and enjoyable.

The journey that the Victorian lady Jessa takes with her Guardian to the town of Middlebury under the mysterious favor called in by her Aunts friend makes the reader curious to see what happens. The mystery continues when they arrive and a dramatic scene unfolds that doesn’t make Jessa any less suspicious of her Aunt’s past and secrets. Ladies are supposed to be demure and uncurious, and Jessa is finding it hard to live by tenants of being a lady if saving her loved one is on the line!

This story is really well written and the imagery put forth by the author is phenomenal! I enjoyed the Fae Lore that went into this novel and not just the bits and pieces that get placed in the genre. It was very refreshing. The novel is short and to the point, but feel that there could’ve been more movement in the story than increased imagery for the character. It felt like walking into a movie that already started and you were picking pieces along the way. (This makes sense as it is a prequel to the series.) I am intrigued by the Blood of the Fae series and seeing what the main saga contains for me, just so I see why the build-up.

I came across this book first and started reading it before realizing that this was book 2 in a series. From there I had to find book one just to read to see how my thoughts might be swayed and the impact it has on understanding the second book. Even though I did it backwards I was still able to follow the storyline and the author does a wonderful job with looping you in.

Elinor, our female medium, is a witty, take no prisoners type of person and definitely not one to let society tell her what she must do. So when she gets an invite to a royal feast she must accept after all she also loves to eat. Throw in an attempted murder, a ghost stalking her favorite chef, and the romantic tension between Elinor and Duke Tristan you have a witty masterpiece that anyone would fall in love with. Who will solve this dastardly royal murder attempt or will they end up in the crosshairs of the perpetrator?

This was a witty, humorous paranormal mystery read that will keep you flipping pages just to find out what happens next. Now onto downloading the others in this series so I can see what happens next.

Well, well, well a ghost story with suspense. Elinor Chalamet a crime fighting medium. She is not only independent but plays a strong role in this case. While things seem to be quiet around her, life gets boring. Getting an invitation from the King Guenard, she chooses to visit the King and the great cook off. Taking her friend Dr. Charlotte LaRue with her on the adventure. But things change quite quickly. Murder and mayhem keep this story going with its twists and turns. This is a new author for me. But I am very pleased I gave her a chance. Her fantasy ghost story with its action and suspense held my interest and was fun to read. I am looking forward to what happens next for Elinor.

This is a prequel novella and a great start for a fae novel series. Jesse is an amazing character with secrets and hard decisions to make! I thoroughly found myself in love with the authors writing style and her ability to keep me enthralled in the story line despite the shortness of the book. This novella sets the stage for what I am certain will be an exceptional series of books! Worth reading over and over!

Delicious Death (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Book 2) by Byrd Nash

Delicious Death is the second book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries and is a fast paced story that I devoured in one sitting. I recommend reading the first book in this series if you haven’t already started as this one picks up not to long after the first one ended ,plus you get to know the characters better and what’s been going on up to this point. I Enjoyed reading this fast paced well written Historical Mystery that had me turning the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

I enjoyed Delicious Death. I think I may have enjoyed it more than book 1 in this series. The author brings us back to Alenbonne and into Madame Chalamet’s life. This time it seems to be a bigger adventure and a bigger mystery.
The resident Ghost Talker has been invited to The Winter Revels by the king. This season’s competition is among 6 chefs across the land. Of course Madame Chalamet feels Duke Archambeau is behind it. But what happens when all the fun and games turns serious. Someone poisoned the King and with all these people in the same place from high society as well as common, anyone could’ve done it.
Together and apart the Duke and Madame start an investigation to get to the bottom of it. Despite everything the push and pull between them, they make a great team. It could also be that the author is showing more chemistry between them within the writing.
I look forward to continuing on into this series!
