Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I had not read any of the previous books in the series and did not feel as though I was missing any necessary information as the author fills you in with all information needed to understand and enjoy the story.
This is a great contemporary romance that follows one of my favourite tropes, and that is ‘wounded warrior’. Gina was badly burned in a roadside bomb while in active service three years previously. Her confidence is low and she hasn’t been with a man since and has no intention of letting any man see her body. That is until she meets, and gets to know, arson investigator Bryce. But how will he react when he sees her scars? Will she actually get the courage to let him see her as she really is?
I really enjoyed reading Gina and Bryce’s story. It’s filled with a great deal of angst, mainly on Gina’s part, as she tries to fight her growing feelings for Bryce but unable to see how such a relationship could work.
I loved the camaraderie between Gina and her friends, who have been the main characters in the previous books and in those still to come. They truly are a ‘band of sisters’.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.
