Burned by Fire (Firehouse 13 Book 4) by Danielle Jacks – Review by Michelle Austin

Burned by Fire (Firehouse 13, #4)Burned by Fire by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an emotional 5 star read. You get pulled in right from the beginning. Sol is dealing with the fact that he can’t be a firefighter anymore. He attempts to go to a counselor but that doesn’t go very well. He’s a hero to others but not to himself. He tries to hide his injury when he can.
Sol has been Ember’s mentor and she is determined to show him how important he is. Ember was great for Sol, she helps him heal. I really loved these two. Ember was a determined woman and refused to give up on Sol. We get so much in the read. The author does a great job with her writing and you will be done before you know it. All of the characters were great. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. If you’re looking for an age-gap romance that pulls you in, 1-click and get started today on this one.

This was a short read but a good one.Sol is trying to deal with not being a firefighter anymore and he isn’t dealing well. Ember is a new firefighter and missing her mentor Sol. Both Ember and Sol have had romantic feelings for each other for some time but neither of them know of each other’s feelings. This was a full body story even though it was short. The characters are great and it’s a good story line. This was a good read.

Burned by Fire: Danielle Jacks
Part of the Firehouse 13 series, Burned by Fire is installment number four. Each book can be read separately. In Burned by Fire, the story follows former fireman Solomon Fox. Sol was injured while doing an off-duty rescue, forcing him into early retirement. His life became a downward spiral until he reconnects with a former mentee. From there, with her help, his life starts looking up again.
All the characters from Burned by Fire are relatable. The reader could feel what the characters were feeling the entire story. The story kept me guessing and I enjoyed how it portrayed him turning his life back around. It is a heart-felt story, and I could not put it down. The only downfall is that it could have used a little more description in places and some of the conversations were worded awkwardly.
Overall, Burned by Fire is a must read. If you are looking for a realistic love story that is also a quick read, look no further.

This was a short but cute romance read! It alternates telling the story form each of the main characters story, so you get to know both characters! Sol is a retired firefighter who went through a traumatic event. Ember is a new firefighter who is falling for her old mentor Sol.
As the story continues, you fall more and more in love with their story!

This book is a short, fast paced romance. Ember is a new fire fighter that’s in love with her old mentor, Sol. Sol is struggling mentally due to an accident that has left him scarred. This book begins to dive into the importance of mental health in men which is a huge topic. I’m glad to see Sol in therapy and taking the right steps to better himself and work through his trauma.

This contemporary romance was incredible. When I first found this series I was a little worried about trying it just due to the fact that the series is written by several different authors. But I was definitely wrong, this author like the others provided us with a novel full of emotions, angst, romance, chemistry, hope and so much more. The characters are amazing, the plot was interesting, and the series as a whole has really blown me away. So if your looking for a new romance read to pick up this week, then make sure you take a look into this one.

I’m a huge fan of a story that can be short but doesn’t make you notice that it is. While it’s a shorter read it wasn’t hindered in anyway. I truly felt an easy connection to the characters and the overall storyline and that’s not always easy but this author did it very well. From page one I couldn’t put it down and finished it rather quickly and enjoyed all of it. There’s just something about these two characters that spoke a little deeper to me and I’ll remember them for a while. If you’re looking for an amazing shorter read I highly recommend this story. Four big stars!

This was a shorter novella. While the story line is there and the main characters, Sol and Ember, each have their connections to the storyline this story could have been really amazing. I am of the thought that the more details you put into both the storyline and the characters the better the story. That said it was a cute short romance read and was enjoyable. I would read another story by this author.

Firehouse 13 is a 12-part series with each book written by one of 12 amazing authors. Set in a small town called Armstrong and centred around the firehouse sparks fly and temperatures burn in more than one way.

Danielle’s Burned by Fire is the fourth book in the series. It is one story where things are highly emotional and full of drama, angst, pain, stubbornness, and sacrifice. There is hard earned romance and it kept the pages turning but it was over too soon.

Sol is a bitter, bitter man and can’t see where is place in the world is anymore. He has lost the one thing he loves. Now he is looking for answers in the bottom of a bottle but could one beautiful woman change things?

Ember maybe doing what she loves but now something or someone is missing. Could the one thing she wants now be a reality?

I look forward to reading more of this series.

3.5 Stars

Burned By Fire by Danielle Jacks is the fourth book in the Firehouse 13 series, a multi-author collaboration. It is a bit of an angsty and emotional contemporary romance. A story about finding love unexpectedly, with a friends to lovers theme, firefighters, mentor/mentee relationship, age gap, secret crush, struggles with mental health issues, losing yourself to your inner demons, chemistry, connection, finding purpose, hope, and love.
It has some really sweet moments, but this isn’t a light and fluffy read. The story is emotional as we observe our MC struggle with his inner demons. Sol had lost himself when he had to retire early from the fire department due to injury. He gets stuck in a downward spiral of self-pity, regret, and alcohol. He had lost sight of everything that mattered and now risks losing everything. Will the rookie ignite a new passion for him? Will he take a chance, grab hold of a lifeline, find a way to conquer his demons, find love, and discover a new purpose?
I love Danielle Jacks stories; they always find a way to burrow under my skin and into my heart. I think Sol and Ember were perfect for each other, but things weren’t ‘easy’ for them, and they had to work to find their happiness. I did enjoy the book, but I would’ve loved to have read a longer version of this story, as the story felt a bit rushed in places. I would have like more time to fully appreciate the characters and their emotive story.

Thank you, Danielle Jacks!

Burned by Fire (Firehouse 13, #4)Burned by Fire by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was an enjoyable, short read. The story is told from the perspectives of each of the main characters, Sol and Ember. Sol is trying to reckon with injury and pain of losing his life’s path and Ember’s career is starting to take off. Though younger than Sol, she’s always had a crush and it may finally be the right time to explore her crush, while also helping Sol find his way back to life. The feelings and steam between the characters is palpable.

Overall, this was an enjoyable story with fairly well developed characters; however there were time I was hoping for more depth. The story moves at a fast pace due to its length, but the reader is fulfilled in a complete story. This can be read in a single sitting and was worth the time.

When one accident happens and you lose everything. That’s what’s going on when we enter the firehouse 13 world in Burned By Fire. A story about finding oneself and learning to accept the love given to you.
Solomon saved 2 children from a fire, but he paid the ultimate price. His career is gone. Forced in early retirement by the fire department due to extensive injuries he’s become a lost soul.
Ember’s hero was hurt and he’s spiraling faster than anyone can help him. She still pushes and tries though. She also uses that time to be honest with him.
This book is a wonderful story of redemption. Though Solomon feels his life is over. The author has him go through the trials and tribulations dealing with life after tragedy. I’ve seen people with injuries and mental health struggle. So this story hits home for me. I’ve also seen those people take a lot longer to move forward. Which is why this is a fictional romance, but a beautiful one at that!

Burned by Fire is the fourth book in the Firehouse 13 series. I truly enjoyed this book and its probably in the top 3 favorites of this author. I love her style of writing and her attention to detail along with amazing characters make for a amazing story. This is a fast paced short story that I read in one sitting. This is Sol and Ember’s story. He’s a bit of a grump but once you find out what happened to him the grumpiness makes a little sense.
He’s retired now and Ember is a fairly newly qualified. She’s had a secret crush on Sol for a while, there’s quite the age difference between them but really does that matter? This story took me on quite the emotional journey. I felt sadness for Sol but also anger at times The chemistry between them is definitely there regardless of the age difference. Find out what happens next in this hard to put down Romance. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Sol has been forced to retire due an injury he sustained. This has led to him turning to the bottle to to deal. Ember is new rookie firefighter who has looked up to Sol as a mentor…while also harboring a crush. When they bump into each other, Ember wants to help him heal (heart and soul). However, they have her job and their age difference fighting against them! Will they give their love a chance? Or are they doomed from the start to be nothing more than a spark?

I enjoyed these characters. Ember is wise beyond her years. She is passionate about her career and mature than most her age. Sol is older…but not dealing with the loss of his job in a mature way. There were a few times when I had a hard time understanding his decision making, since he was a veteran firefighter, but I’m sure losing the ability to do what you love will make you do crazy things.

Overall, this is a quick read that is written in a way that makes you feel as though you are a part of the story. I have read a handful of books from this author and have never been disappointed. Another good story that I enjoyed reading!

This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up. One of the things I enjoy about this author is their ability to use details to make the story realistic. I enjoy how her writing skills make her stories pop and come to life. This story is no different. This is a well written story about Ember and Sol. They are both firefighters, one retired and the other newly qualified. There is a story of romance and realizing how much one means to the other. They have great chemistry and I enjoyed watching them grow throughout the story. They added so much to the story that they really packed a punch in a short time. This is a fast paced romance story that is hard to put down. An engaging story that you don’t want to miss. I really enjoyed reading this story. I highly recommend it.

I loved this story of Sol and Ember. This gave me all the feels of raw emotion of feeling like you lost your purpose in life, finding that someone who is behind you 100% and that you can find your purpose and have this special bond between two people.

Sol, a retired firefighter, is truly feeling like he lost his purpose after an accident and is trying to drown his sorrows in drink. His friends, including new recruit Ember, want Sol to get help, but Sol needs to be the one to help himself. Ember is all about her career and totally driven (which I love), but also loves and wants to support Sol to get better. Sol and Ember slowly discover the healing process Sol’s issues after the accident that left him unable to no longer work and that Ember wants to be there for him. Will Sol and Ember discover love is worth fighting and supporting each other for, even if there is some age gap? Definitely read and find out. I truly recommend this book, it is so good!!

Burned by Fire is the first book I’ve read by this author. It was a short and an easy read, one that I found myself picking up in little crevices throughout my day.
I have to admit I was not a big fan of Sol as a character, I had a hard time connecting and sympathizing with him. Ember on the other hand, was a great main character. She was meant to be young at age 21 but she was mature and reasonable.
I enjoyed that the author alternated between perspectives throughout the book.
There were times where I was uncertain how much time had lapsed and I felt a bit lost but I attributed this to sporadically picking up the book.
Overall, I appreciated the storyline and would recommend the book to others.

This was an enjoyable read. It is a short read however you do feel like you get the whole story and it doesn’t lack anything. I enjoyed the characters.
It was hard reading about Sol and how he worked so hard as a firefighter to be then injured and retired from doing what he loves. Reading about his downward spiral was hard but also relatable for quite a lot of people in that situation.
Ember is a young lady who joined just before Sol was retired. She had always looked up to him and admired him from afar. She sees how this injury has affected him and she wants to help him. Not just to help him though, she has always harbored an attraction towards him and sometimes friendship crosses over into love.
Things are plain sailing for them though, with Sols drink problem, Embers possible new career in another brigade and the newness that is their relationship can this couple work through it all and find happiness with each other?

I loved this book, the characters had that sweet essence, but with their own fire going. I loved their different personalizes as well as the walks of life they come from. The book was convincing and a wonderful read.

Sol and Ember were wonderful, they both were stubborn at times, there flame between them was undeniable to say the least. I loved watching them with scenes together, and how it played out. Sometimes with fire fighting, you have to risk it all and run into that burning house, I found that was what Sol and Ember both had to do. Leap of faith. Not be afraid and just do it. Their story was a quick and easy read, but all so wonderful. Enjoyed the author’s writing and how the story played out!

Loved this book, its quick, but very much amazing read. Loved the author’s writing style and character development. Highly recommend this must read book! Loved it from start to finish! Truly loved it!

What happens when the life you planned takes a curveball? That is what happens to the leading man in this book. He finds himself in a huge hole of self pity. Desperately trying to figure out what to do with himself. The leading female idolizes the main man. She was just starting out in the firehouse when he became injured. She feels like she can help him when she notices that he is struggling. The community that they belong to come to the aide. Together they try ti figure out a way for him to find a new path in life. This book is a short, quick read. It will have you second guessing what you would do if the plan that you are following changes for some unforeseen reason. It is a sweet romance with some steam. So I really struggled with this age gap firefighter romance. Connecting to the characters just was not there for me. I really liked the idea of the story which is why I picked it up. I mean who doesn’t love a firefighter story? Sol has a stress from his injury and he is gruff. Ember (who is a firefighter too!) has always liked Sol and misses him on the job. She tries to smooth out his rough edges but will he let her?

This is not my first book by this author. I usually enjoy her stories and characters but this one just fell flat for me. There is some anguish and drama along with the romance. So all good stuff but i think more expanding was needed. Sorry I wanted to love it but just couldn’t.
