I haven’t read a good sports romance story for a while so when I saw this one, I grabbed it. Now it is book 9 in the series and I have only read 1 of the others from this series but they are easily read as standalones.

I really liked the characters in this story, yes, I will admit Wyatt was not one of those characters you get an instant connection with but I think I ended up liking him even more because of how much his character grew over the story and there was some great character development with him. Serena was a really nice character and I loved that this wasn’t one of those instant, one night stand kind of relationships. It was lovely to see the whole thing develop over the story.

Overall, a really great read, I definitely mist read some of the other from the series now!

Reading this book gave me all sorts of emotions. First and foremost, at the beginning I did not like Wyatt at all. I just couldn’t get behind him and felt like this book was going to drag on because of it. However, that is not what happened. I actually read this book pretty quickly and got over my dislike for Wyatt throughout the book. He has some redeeming qualities that only Serena and his team mates can help him find and figure out. In this book Serena has a job that requires her creative thinking and always seeming to be on call to handle any bad situation that the team comes across. This sounds like a draining job to me but the way it is written makes me think that maybe in another lifetime I should do this. She deals with a lot in this book not just professional but personally as well. This is where we get to see the character growth of Wyatt in the book. He steps up and helps Serena. This book has a lot to offer the reader. It has the slow burn romance, the character growth and development, the page turning urgency, and it is a quick read that leaves you feeling good after you finish it.

NHL Goaltender Wyatt Tompkins has burned his bridges with the Colorado Blizzards. He is trying to get back his career but is not holding out much hope. His reputation for being a bad boy who is a PR nightmare does not help. At an event he sees Serena Lamber the PR for the Colorado Blizzards, he expects a smile but instead is met with glares. What he doesn’t plan on that night is rescuing Serena from an attack and staying by her side. There is more to what he needs from Serena but he is not planning.

An unlikely alliance turns to a bit more between Wyatt and Serena. Wyatt is seeing his life and career in a new light. Getting a second chance at NHL, Wyatt is learning how to not be the I in team. Serena’s career is rocky too and she is trying to navigate the stormy waters while keeping her blossoming relationship with Wyatt under wraps. Can these two come together and build into something strong or are they too different to make it work?

I enjoyed this one, it was a bit of a surprise the way the story unfolded. I really liked Wyatt and Serena together. Had so many characters I was interested in reading about. I also liked the growth of Wyatt, he goes from being a bit of a tool to a very complex character who redefines who he is. Great read.

Guarding the Crease
By: G.K. Brady

This is another book in the Playmakers Series. I have read several, but not all of the series. I can say that each book functions as a standalone, however, I definitely have enjoyed each and every book I have read and will be going back to read the ones I have missed so far.
G.K. Brady has created main characters who are hockey players, but who have more depth to them than that. Wyatt is definitely one of those characters. In the beginning, it was hard to find anything good about Wyatt, he was one of the bad boys of hockey. But as Brady always does, Wyatt was written with so much depth and so many redeemable qualities found underneath his tough exterior. Additionally, she has created such a lovable character in Serena. Serena is the PR girl who can’t ever see herself falling for Wyatt – she is so responsible, where he is so … Not. Their interactions together and their banter is absolutely so enjoyable. I absolutely loved this story and recommend it to everyone!

Wyatt Tompkins is in a slump, using his status as a NHL Goalie just a little too much so when his antics are no longer fun and hindering his career he spirals into a slump. With no team anymore and not knowing what he can do to bring him back into the NHL he decides to go out and have a drink with his cousin, Noah. That night changes his life forever.

Serena Lambert has her career on the incline, PR Director of one of the top NHL teams wanting her savvy skills to take her higher until one night she is thrown into the path of the most infamous hockey player she has ever met but as she gets to know him, he starts to work his way into her heart.

When Wyatt asks Serena to help him improve his image, she is reluctant at first but over time the chemistry and attraction is too much to ignore but when two personalities are that different can they find the line in the sand to be together.

I loved this story and another great addition to the series, although this is part of the series you can easily read this as a standalone book.

I must admit when you first meet Wyatt you do think what a complete waste of space, he has caused this on himself and he needs to grow up, but as they story moves along you understand and get to see the real person inside and grow to love him, I know but you do. Serena is a brilliant sassy, independent strong woman, who takes no nonsense from him and calls him on his behaviour which is brilliant to read.

The story was well written, and the main characters really drive the story along which enhanced the reading experience and I was frantically diving in to finish and see what happens in the end. I can’t wait to read more in this series and by this author.

Contemporary sports romance
This is book 9 in The Playmakers Series and is slow burn. I struggled to connect with Wyatt at first but he did end up redeeming himself. Serena was a great character and fished out some much deserved home truths. I enjoyed this addition to the series and as always the writing is well done. Recommend.

Guarding the Crease is the ninth book in The Playmakers series by G.K. Brady. It is a contemporary sports (hockey) romance with opposites attract, drama, angst, family, friendship, teammates, banter, humour, emotion, sweet details, character growth and development, and finding love unexpectedly.
I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this book to begin with because from what I thought I remembered of Wyatt from previous books, I hadn’t particularly liked him- so I was worried that I would hate him and his book. But, surprisingly, he won me over.
This is a bit of a slow-burn story that I had a little trouble settling into to begin with. I found parts felt like they were too slow, and made the story feel like it was lagging/dragging. But once I found ‘my groove’ and the pace picked up a bit, I enjoyed the ride. I have missed a few books in this series between this the last instalment I had read, so I might need to go back and catch up before continuing with any new additions.

Thank you, G.K. Brady!

Guarding The Crease is Book Ten in The Playmaker Series. It is a steamy sports romance that centers around the characters of Wyatt and Serena. Wyatt is a famous NHL goaltender who is a bit self-centered, egotistical, and used to getting his own way. Along comes Serena, a tough cookie in her own rights who is fierce, smart, strong, and determined. As PR Director of the Colorado Blizzard’s, she needs to be driven and not put up with any flack. She also knows Wyatt’s reputation so when he needs her help, she does not expect to empathize with him or his situation. However, as the two start to spend time together she sees another side to him. Serena now sees why Wyatt acts the way he does and before long the two are falling hard for each other.

This book was well written with an interesting storyline and great characters. Wyatt initially comes across as a bad boy, and an unlovable jerk. As his story unfolds, we see the reasons behind his behavior and start to see another side of him. Serena is to credit for some of his changes because she does not put up with his irresponsible behavior. She is tough as nails, strong, feisty, and did not back down from any challenge. It was easy to root for Wyatt to wise up and change his ways because of the love of a good woman. I wanted Serena to be the one he realized was going to be there for him and not give up on him. This book was full of angst, drama, hope, second chances, passion, and love.

This story is all about the redemption of the main character and his relationship with a certain individual. For me, Wyatt is the one that really made this story. He was so determined to turn things around and I thought he was so reliable. The way both main characters fit together worked well and was believable.
This whole series is enjoyable. The books are easy and fun to read. I look forward to the next after each one. They are definitely worth the read.

Guarding the Crease is a slow burn sports romance tale where opposites attract.
There is a lot of character development in this book. The Playmakers sports series is full of bad boys. Just what everyone wants.
This is Wyatt and Serena’s story.
NHL goaltender is a bad boy and does what he wants, and he is about to lose it all. It seems he is about to eat humble pie in a big way. When I was first reading Wyatt, I thought I am not going to like him and it’s true I didn’t. BUT over time I enjoyed watching the cocky no care man take a good long look at himself. As the layers unfolded and he changed his ways it was hard not to liked him. Who knew beneath that wild veneer there was a complex man with a good heart.
Serena’s the strong, sassy and savvy PR with skills and the last thing she wants or needs is to be around him. A kick in the pants, some tough love and she would be on her way. Wrong! Turns out there may have been something worth saving. She just had to find it first. Serena was a tough cookie I was on the fence about her, but we soon found our way together.
At times I found things a little predictable and had me wanting more but I did enjoy the story. It has an engaging plot, and I did enjoy the witty humour, banter and antics as well as the flirtation between the MC’s.
If you really like sports romance, then give this book a try.

I loved this one for so many reasons: Colorado, Denver, mentions place I know off and have been. Oh my goodness, the sparks between these two had me chuckling even though the way they came together was a serious matter. Serena gets attacked outside a fundraiser by a douc bag and Wyatt is her hero. The problem is that he’s her PR nightmare. These two had me rolling. They were attracted by didn’t want to go there because of prior history. Well, because of their history, Serena felt it wouldn’t work. Didn’t see that on who the attacker was, Serena needed Wyatt to help her resolve the problem at work. Wyatt needed her help getting his mom off his back. Oh yeah, and he wanted back on the team. They have misadventures, drama, and other items as the story goes on. I love the way this author writes. You are drawn in and totally engaged right from the start. It is a quick read. The characters are totally easy to relate to. A fun romance that should be on every romance TBR list.

When Serena Lambert finds herself in danger, a knight in shining armor charges out of the darkness to her rescue. Just when the Colorado Blizzard’s PR director thought she was finally rid of the biggest pain in her butt and his outrageous tabloid shenanigans … But what’s the saying about bad pennies always turning up?

Being a famous NHL goaltender comes with a lot of perks, on and off the ice, and Wyatt has taken advantage of every single one. But when he becomes the NHL’s most infamous netminder, he loses more than the fringe benefits—he forfeits his roster spot. He wants back in. Sadly, the one person who can help him salvage his image and his livelihood has written him off, despite his heroics.

Wyatt needs Serena’s seriously savvy PR skills, and he’s not beyond leveraging the payback. He’s even willing to overlook her prickly exterior to get her on his side. Taming Beckett (The Playmakers Series Hockey Romances Book 1) by G.K. Brady – Review by Christie Mitchum

Taming Beckett (The Playmakers, #1)Taming Beckett by G.K. Brady
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Taming Beckett was an enjoyable romance with complicated and complex characters. If this book is any indication, then I predict this is going to be a great series!

The book took off right from the very first pages. Beckett is a talented and skilled hockey player, but he doesn’t seem to have control off of the ice. Now, he finds himself in a lot of trouble, something that could put an end to his successful career. Paige is successful as well, but like Beckett, not so much in her personal life. Although her problems aren’t created by her but by her husband who has no idea how lucky he is to be married to her. She and Beckett met years ago in college, and she was the only girl who didn’t fall for him. She wasn’t much of a fan of his then, and when they meet again, she still isn’t a fan. However, as they find themselves spending more time together when she becomes his realtor, they begin to form a friendship with the promise of so much more if they can overcome the obstacles standing in their way.

Both Beckett and Paige are complicated characters. The author, G.K. Brady, did a fantastic job of revealing their complexities with each chapter. I wasn’t quite sure how I would feel about Beckett when I read the first chapter. I was not his biggest fan, to say the least. On the other hand, I was a big fan of Paige. I felt like she deserved so much more than her husband was giving her. I was hoping Beckett would find the strength to turn his life around, and I was hoping Paige would have the strength to stand up for herself. I liked the fact that Brady didn’t rush that aspect of the story, and she didn’t really rush the romance. It was a slow burn, and I liked that their relationship was built on the foundation of a strong friendship. I’m not saying there weren’t bumps along the way to their HEA, because there were quite a few. In my opinion, that strong foundation helped them find their way to each other.

I LOVED the epilogue. It was many, many years later, and I liked that a lot. I always like to see how characters are doing in the future before having to tell them goodbye. Brady is a new writer to me, and I’m looking forward to reading more books written by her.

This is hard to put down book is a must-read. It follows the story of Beckett and Paige. Beckett is a pro hockey player that is known more for his exploits off the ice than on the ice. While Paige is a hard-working woman that has started her own business.

How would you react if one of the most talked about players in the hockey world runs into you and tells you something shocking on accident? That’s not how this story starts but it’s how the fun part begins. Paige works hard for all her money and tries to make time for her globe-trouting husband. While Beckett loves all the ladies. Can the bad boy really learn anything from a good girl like Paige?

What happens when bad meets good? Can a tiger really change its stripes? What happens when a spiteful ex intervenes and causes problems? Can you trust a man that has a hard time trusting himself? Read this amazing book to find out!

5 Stars!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

If you love a great sports, second chance romance that was a slow burn (for me) I would definitely recommend this book highly! This author is new to me and I love sports romance books, especially a hockey romance.

Beckett Miller is a hot shot NHL player who loves hockey, booze, drugs and women. When Beckett’s life spins out of control off the ice, his hockey career is threatened. Paige Anderson has it all….successful business, loving husband and wonderful life….or so she thinks. When Beckett initially meets Paige to sell his house to make money, putting two and two together they knew each other in their college years. Paige’s marriage is in shambles and Beckett’s hockey profession and they are there to lean on each other through the ups and downs…and sparks fly hard in that process between Paige and Beckett…but when an ugly scandal shows its head…will Paige and Beckett survive knowing the past can come back and haunt Beckett?

This book was so much a roller coaster of emotions. I was rooting for Beckett and Paige and their story..but I can say at times I wanted to shake Paige! This book has romance, scandal and a second chance for love and true happiness. I am looking forward to the next book in this series!!

Taming Beckett: A Bad Boy Sports Romance (The Playmakers Series Hockey Romances Book 1)

I love almost all sports. For some reason I haven’t gotten into hockey, but have enjoyed every hockey book/series I have read.

When reading a series I always see how the first book grabs me and make my decision from there if I’m going to invest the time I’m the series or not. I decided I was fully invested pretty early on.

I love bad boys and if they can find the girl to change them it’s even better for me. I certainly wasted way too much time on the bad boys.

Paige Anderson “Andie” is exactly what Beckett needed and found her when he had no intention of a relationship. She was far from perfect and had her issues, but don’t we all? She had no clue events from her childhood clouded the way she saw things as an adult.

Beckett was on the hot mess express and heading straight towards a wall. He took everything he had for granted and learned an important lesson the hard way.

They were total opposites but worked together. I’m already hooked and can’t wait to get a chance to read the next book in the series.

Taming Beckett is book one in G.K. Brady’s series The Playmakers. Beckett is a pro hockey player with quite the reputation. He’s losing everything due to a drug scandal and it’s kind of humbling him. Finally. Paige is a real estate agent who is going through a divorce and could really use a big paycheck to get her life back together. Though I admit I really liked Paige’s character, I wasn’t a super fan of Beckett. He needs a reality check which he eventually realizes but I wasn’t interested in the reasoning of his troubles. The story itself was a slow burn and though it did finally “get there,” it just felt like it took forever. The pair did have quite the chemistry and their friendship was rather solid throughout. I will be interested to see how the rest of the series plays out overall.

Paige Paulson, formerly Anderson, has loosely followed the career of Beckett Miller. They knew each other back in college before he became a hotshot NHL star. He’s the last person she expects to run into when she’s meeting a client about selling his house. As she gets to know Beckett on a more personal level she unknowingly starts to fall in love with him. He knows he needs to change his ways for not only himself but his career. He has never been one to make a commitment when it came to relationships but Paige is making him want to settle down. Will she be willing to be more than friends?

I enjoyed this book as well as the writing style of the author. It was nice to see how much Beckett changed over the course of the book and how he saw he could be a much better person being sober. The banter between the characters was fun as well.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I first started this book I didn’t know what to expect. Beckett Miller was the star hockey player back in college when he met Paige Anderson his senior year. Andie as he liked to call her. He then went pro and their friendship never went anywhere. After 10 years their paths finally cross. Paige is married and working hard to grow her own business. Her marriage is not all it is cracked up to be but we learn more as the story unravels. Beckett Is now a pro NHL player who is eye candy, into drugs, alcohol, and is always making bad decisions off the ice. You learn how his choices cost him so much. This book was a great second chance book. One apparently I didn’t know I needed in my life. I stayed intrigued throughout this book. I wasn’t sure if the author would give us a HEA but we do get it. I am so excited to read the next book in this series. Definitely happy I took a chance on this book.

Taming Beckett
By: G.K. Brady

I am a sucker for a good romance. I am even more of a sucker for a bad boy romance. This is possibly one of the best bad boy romances I have ever read. And I completely recommend reading this one, because I could not put it down. I loved Paige “Andie” and her attitude, temperament and behavior. She is one of those girls everyone knows. The one who has tried her best to fight past the cards that life handed her and she did it on her own terms. However, I related to her character so much because she was married to an older man hoping that he would give her the stability she never had in childhood. Beckett, is the best type of bad boy – the kind who has a party boy image but really has one girl that he holds a flame for, and even he may not realize it. I love that they have a history from college and that neither really has changed one bit. I love that they changed and evolved but in the end really stayed true the essence of who they were when they met. I found myself rooting for them every step of the way. I also loved the plot point of Beckett and his hockey career. You could feel him fighting for redemption in every aspect of his career.

This is my first read from this author. If you like slow burn steamy romance with second chances and a “bad boy” then keep reading this review. We are met with our former NHL star Beckett Miller who is the middle of his career and life spiraling down due to his terrible life choices. Then our leading lady Paige.

Paige has kept up with Beckett’s debacle from afar because they seemed to have prior connection and was her what if.

When everything starts to hit the fan for the both of them, they seem to find each other again. Their chemistry seemed to never dwindle and this was steamy and slow burn. Just an overall good read.

Taming Beckett (The Playmakers Series Hockey Romances Book 1) by G.K. Brady – Review by Rosanna Ingram

Taming Beckett (The Playmakers, #1)Taming Beckett by G.K. Brady
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Beckett’s latest scandal is a doozy…he has lost his money, his friends, his restaurant, and his career is on the line. Trying to figure out what to do next leads him to see his house. Through the process, he builds a friendship with his realtor. However, she is going through her own struggles. Will they be able to help each other heal and move forward?

Paige is a realtor with broken relationship with her cheating husband. After she is hired to sell Beckett’s house, their past comes to light and they begin to form a friendship of helping each other. Due to her husband, she has a hard time trusting the men in her life. But, when the time is right, can she take a chance on Beckett? Or is the notorious bad boy not the man for her?

I enjoyed this story because both Beckett and Paige had their own storylines that were interesting…and the way they came together was enjoyable to read. There is no cheating in this book…so don’t worry about that. I feel that each of the characters grew on their own while being able to be the help that the other needed. Overall, a good story!

Taming Beckett (The Playmakers Series Hockey Romances Book 1) by G.K. Brady – Review by Jess Dimmock

Taming Beckett (The Playmakers, #1)Taming Beckett by G.K. Brady
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a great novel of friends to lovers. I really loved how Brady took the time for the characters to grow. The two leads grew as individual characters in their own storylines, then as friends, then as lovers. The progression and growth were really spectacularly done without getting lost, bogging down, or getting boring. Just an all-around well written book!

Taming Beckett (The Playmakers Series Hockey Romances Book 1) by G.K. Brady – Review by Bethany Rollins

Taming Beckett (The Playmakers, #1)Taming Beckett by G.K. Brady
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Beckett is stumbling downward into a life he is unfamiliar with. A once high ranking hockey player finds himself broke and lacking many friends. In the sale of one of his many properties, he reconnects with
Paige, a former college acquaintance. Paige has always crushed on Beckett but he’s always been out of her reach for the relationship she wants in life. When they reconnect, Paige is suffering from her own battles of a broken marriage and leans on Beckett to support her through.
Most of the book is set with their friendship which is very nice to see a deeper connection for the characters. We are given years of history for these two characters which makes the developing romance seem plausible. Through friendship, support, humor and honesty, can these two from the lasting bond we all want for them? This was a great read and loved the flow of the then and now for our main characters.

I enjoyed this book. Even with all of Beckett’s faults and mistakes, I still wanted to see him succeed. I felt for Paige and I was glad to see her and Beckett connect. The characters grow throughout the story, and I liked who they were at the end.

On the surface this book is your typical bad boy romance, but really it is just so much more. Paige has the life she wanted until she found out her husband was cheating on her. Beckett is spiraling out of control. A chance meeting with someone from their past is just what the doctor ordered for these two. Can he help her let go of the past? Can she help him find his path? I loved this story so much. I felt like I really felt the characters. I will definitely be reading the next in this series.
