Marcy is asked to help put together costumes for the local theaters upcoming play. Mike, the director, wants the beat play possible. Marcy finds herself battling with Mike, her ill mother, and a ghost she encounters in thr costume room; can overcome it all to help solve the mystery that was brought to her. This was the second installment in the series and was just as good as the first. It was a fast paced mystery that pulled you right in. This can be read as a stand alone novel but I don’t know why you would want to.

The first book in this series was amazing, but this book somehow topped it! It’s just as fast paced as the first book and entertained me from the very beginning to the last page. The theatrical production was incredibly accurate and felt like I was there. Getting to know Marcy and Mike was such a fascinating journey because he is such a Grumpy Gus and she can read auras. The character development is top notch, and the story flows very nicely. While you can definitely read this book as a standalone, you really won’t be able to stop there so go ahead and pick up the first book now. A fun book with romance, great chemistry, mysterious happenings, and unpredictability will certainly keep your attention for the day!

Divinely Dramatic is the 2nd book in the Divine Vintage series by Sandra L. Young. The focus shifts to Marcy, the young assistant in Divine Vintage boutique who was a secondary character in the first book. This book can be read alone, but you will have a broader understanding of the skills displayed in this story if you have read the first book, Divine Vintage. As well as working two jobs and looking after her infirm mother, Marcy agrees to help with the costumes of a period-era play in the local community theatre as a favour to her friend Justine. Ever since she helped her friend (and boss) Tess solve a century-old supernatural murder mystery a couple of years ago, Marcy has been able to see auras although she is not always sure that she interprets them correctly. Whilst sorting out the costumes for the play, she sees a pulsing white light which leads to her and Tess investigating a 50-year-old mysterious death of an actress who died on opening night in the very play they were now producing. As well as everything else, the lead actress fails to arrive at rehearsals, leading to Marcy filling in, and then being offered the role by the attractive but grumpy director Mike, who only took on the directing job because he lost a bet with his mates. He is determined to have a successful show to show them up. Life becomes complicated with the attraction between Marcy and Mike because Mike has a beautiful but difficult girlfriend, and Marcy starts dating her co-star. Will Marcy be able to pull it all together to solve the mystery, put on a successful show, get her life together and get the man?! I really enjoyed this book. It seemed to be more modern than the first book and had a faster pace. I love Marcy and her eclectic fashion sense and discovering that Mike was a kind and generous soul under the gruff exterior. It was lovely to touch on characters from the first book to see how their life has progressed, but Marcy was definitely the focus of this book, along with the vintage fashions.

Another winner from the world of Sandra Young! Theater means costumes, drama, tales of life and the emotions they include, too. Marcy Alexander is a great woman to know in the world of vintage fashion and the Oscar Wilde play their performing requires period dress, which is why she has the job to be a costume designer. She also is able to read people’s auras and helps her friends assist spirits pass over after she locates them. In addition to this, she is helping her friend at her clothing shop while she has to go out of town. There are so many new things Marcy is figuring out along the way – like the mystery of the person who died during the last showing of the Oscar Wilde play they’re putting on!

This can be read as a standalone but I’d recommend reading the first book if you haven’t already started it. You get to know the characters better. We follow Marcy along as she gets involved as the costumer for the Community Theater . Strange things start happening and so the mystery begins. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Divine Vintage by Sandra L. Young was a hauntingly beautiful romance with vintage clothing as the cause of a great read. I adore the detailed descriptions of the stunning period pieces of clothing that the author describes throughout this story. What a great concept to build a series around, vintage clothing and an inept sense of experiencing the woes of those who have passed. This was a great read from the very beginning of the story when we meet Tess and Marcy, who run a vintage clothing store that Tess has just recently opened. The characters are so entrancing and have such a wonderful connection with their spiritual side that they embrace so deeply. You feel as if you are right there experiencing the events as they are happening to Tess whenever she gets dragged into experiencing the lives of those who have worn the vintage clothing. It is such a great new concept that is not only intriguing as you follow along with the mystery of the ghost’s past but also so captivating as you watch Tess and Trey navigate their magnetic pull to one another. Divinely Dramatic is the second book by Sandra L. Young in the Divine Vintage Series. This book was the perfect continuation of the amazing vintage mystery story with a ghostly tale of romance. I love how this series incorporates vintage clothing that is so true to the era each represents; the author definitely did her homework on each of the pieces that she uses throughout her story. Following along with Marcy’s experience was so much fun, and getting to see her passion for art is such a great thing to behold. Amazing characters, ghosts, an ailing mother, gorgeous clothing, and an unexpected romance all make this a great read that you won’t want to put down. Excellent fun read, I hope to see more books in this series, they really incorporate a sense of mystery, with the intrigue of ghosts. Divinely Dramatic is Book 2 in the Divine Vintage series and this story could be read as a standalone I still highly recommend reading this series from the beginning. Marcy Alexander is recruited to help as a costumer at a local theatre production, things do not go off as planned. Being on the director Mike’s not so good side off the bat, Marcy is trying to do what she can. As Marcy navigates her abilities with auras, her friend Tess, who has other special abilities, also helps out when there is a secret that happened at the theatre long ago..what could have possibly happened? With everything coming to full circle, Marcy must navigate on helping out with production, solve a mystery…can there be sparks between her and Mike as well…

This story is fun and kept me at the edge of my seat wondering how Marcy was going to handle everything thrown at her! Marcy is a costume designer for a particular play set in the 60s and encounters obstacles at every turn. The well-developed characters’ interactions with each other weave the story together dramatically. Paranormal, romance, intrigue – a little bit of something for everyone. It is a book that I dove into and barely came up for air. It was done way too fast! I definitely recommend this book and can’t wait to get my hands on another from this author!

In this wonderfully divine sequel, we get more insight into Marcy, the store clerk from Divine Vintage, and we meet Mike, the sexy director who has a rather nasty girlfriend and, in turn, is rather grumpy. I love the continuance of the paranormal aspect and this time it’s Marcy who is being called on to help the spirit in need. I think I liked this one a bit more ONLY because the plot line interested me more due to the particular play (The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde) that Young chose for her storyline. I enjoyed the character development (as individuals and otherwise) and I also really enjoyed getting to see characters that we previously got to know in the first book. If you are looking for a paranormal mystery romance with a bit of a grumpy/sunshine trope then this is defiantly the book for you! This is the second book in the series and I feel that you can read it as a standalone…but honestly why would you want to miss out on another great book so just go read the first one too 🙂 Reviewed by @meggs1717

This is the second book of the ‘Divine Vintage series’ but can be read as a stand alone. The first book was mainly about Tess while this one is about Marcy.
Marcy took on a job for her friend to costume a period-era play. Upon arrival, she is met with reluctance from the director, Mike. Marcy has a talent for reading auras and his aura was always red with annoyance around her. On top of that, the first time she enters the area where she will be working, she sees what can only be described as a ghostly aura. She enlists help from Tess, who has the gift of visions from clothing and they set off to try and discover who passed away and how.
The lead role of the play is suddenly open and it’s up to Marcy to fill that role. Being the artist she is, no way can she pass up this opportunity. So now she has three tasks at hand, plus there seems to be some electricity between Mike and Marcy even though they are opposites. Even though he technically has a girlfriend, it doesn’t stop the confusing feelings coming from both ends.
Will Marcy be able to complete her original job, steal the show, help the ghost, AND get the man?
I enjoyed the first book of this series which was actually the debut novel but I found the speech a little stiff in some areas. This book was written much better speech wise. Again the author was able to make vintage fashion exciting and mysterious with a splash or romance. The main characters have unique abilities which makes it much more intriguing to read.

I’ve always wanted to visit New Orleans, but this book made me feel like I’d experienced it the quirks and tours and magic of it all before. Jean Lafitte was a captain seeking treasure and along the way, discovered trouble for he and his crew. In an effort to find a way to break their curse, Lafitte approached Marie Leveau but found themselves to be double crossed by the wily NOLA Voodoo queen. Luckily for Jean, she forgot a caveat regarding the 200th October new moon and the opportunity it awards him to break the curse on his own. Fast forward to the approach of this 200th October new moon.
Juliet Vance is a baker who got herself fired when a food critic almost choked to death on a small baby trinket in one of her desserts. Just a little haunting that’s all, or is it? Divinely Dramatic has a lot going on. And I enjoyed what the author was presenting but it did get confusing at times. Giving the read characters with so much depth that are also gifted. Gifted in a way that they have a special ability. Reading auras, connecting with the unknown, ect. Reading this book was a happy accident and I’m glad I took the chance. Marcy has been given an opportunity that could go very right or all kinds of wrong. She’s been drafted by her friend to costume a play in her absence. What she wasn’t expecting was a floating white aura and a possible connection to a 50 year curse that she’s determined to figure out sooner rather than later. However once she’s cast in the play in the very role of the person who died she’s determined to come to a conclusion. Mike lost a bet. Now he has to direct a play not of his choosing. He’s going to do everything in his power to make it successful. However, between Marcy throwing off his senses and unusual happenings around the theater, will he succeed? There’s also the matter of his girlfriend. Art imitating life. It’s hitting rather close to home, meaning their presence and the entity living through similar experiences. The author gave the reader an interesting adventure. One with laughter, happiness, sadness, and love. I look forward to checking out more books in the future.

I couldn’t put this book down, it was so fast paced! I love a good supernatural mystery and it was based in the place I was born. It described New Orleans very well and I really enjoyed the main character. Juliet works at a job that she loves but when she loses that job and has to figure out a curse before time runs out things really start moving. I really liked reading about a city I have been to and the curses that are there. The author has a great writing style and I will definitely be reading more from her.

On her first day of business, an elderly woman, Esther DeLeon, and her nephew, Trey Dunmore, walk into her store, to inform her of a fashion show featuring clothing from the early 20th century at Esther and Trey’s family home, Carver House. Tess agrees to model, but does not expect to be swept up into a mystery that nobody knew existed. The story had always been that Edward Carver had killed his young bride, Phoebe, on their wedding night, and then himself. However, Tess discovers, through flashes of history brought to her by touching belongs of Phoebe’s including the gown that she is to wear for the fashion show, as well as from Phoebe’s diary, that the story that had always been accepted, may not be accurate. When Trey begins to have similar visions, though he is not open to them at first, the pair must try to sort out the mystery as well as their own feelings for each other and rather or not they are being influenced by the feelings of the deceased couple. This is an excellent book, with great characters and world building. This is both a mystery and a guaranteed happily ever after with ghosts and supernatural elements to keep you guessing.

When Marcy walks in, the director, Mike Figueroa, has minimal faith in her abilities because she is an unknown in the theater community. When his lead actress disappears, and she is also asked to step up and read lines, initially for practice, then for good, he is surprised to find that she has many talents. Marcy has an ability to see aura’s, which she didn’t have before her boss at Divine Vintage, Tess Burton, discovered her ability to see visions of the past by touching objects that once belonged to or were used by, the people involved. When Marcy goes into the costume loft and discovers a bright light that has no known source, she realizes it is a spirit trying to communicate with our world to find peace. With the help of her friends, Justine and Tess, along with Tess’s husband Trey, Marcy must try to figure out why this spirit needs her help and how to help her. This book is the second book in the Divine Vintage series, and is a great follow up with the same excellent storytelling, world building and characters, though it can also be read as a stand-alone. Part mystery and part romance, this one will keep you guessing until almost the end.

The Curse of Jean Lafitte is full of history, adventure, and mystery, and a spin of humor as well. Set in New Orleans, the author spins a vivid supernatural tail that pulls you into the rich paranormal history that surrounds the city. You can easily tell the author took the time to do some research, and make the story believable and easy to follow. I have never visited New Orleans myself, but the author makes you feel like you are there, and gives great recommendations around the city! Now, about the actual story…When a food critic almost chokes on a plastic baby in one of the King Cakes, Juliet is left without a job. Before long she finds herself working to break a treasure’s curse with only two weeks to succeed. She ends up finding help in some unlikely places, and with a time crunch, the story progresses quickly. This book was filled with action, adventure, ghosts, and really kept a New Orleans feel throughout the book. The well written chapters flowed well into the next and kept me engaged. When I first read the synopsis for this book I was instantly drawn to the story and I really did enjoy it. I loved Marcy so much, she was such a great, fun character to read about. The story was really entertaining and it definitely kept my attention from beginning to end. The authors writing was really great, I could certainly imagine all of the lovely vintage things she was describing, I love the 60’s and it was great to be transported back there with this story through their love of vintage fashion and the mysterious goings on of 1966! I can’t wait to read more from this series!

This is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. This story was a captivating read about a 200 year old pirate returning to his home of New Orleans to break a curse. The author does an amazing job of mixing past with present day and I loved the character of Jean Lafitte. He was a typical pirate captain but I loved how amazed he was about everything that has changed and things he didn’t know about such as TV’s and phones. This is a paranormal mystery involving pirates, a cure, missing jewels and a 200 yearnold curse that needs to be broken to free Jean and his crew from the purgatory they have found themselves in. However Jean needs one thing to help him recover and return the jewels and break the spell the Named One, Juliet. Juliet has had a rough time after losing her job she finds herself tending a bar. When Jean walks in she assumes he is another party goer who’s had one too many and when she hears his story she is even more convinced he is mad. When Jean asks for her help she reluctantly agrees. If for no other reason than it will entertain her for a couple of weeks. And so the adventure and race against time begins. Will they find where the voodoo woman hid the jewels? Will they be able to return them to the island and break the spell in time? And what will happen if the curse is lifted? This was a fun action packed paranormal adventure with spirits of the past as well as characters of the present. I really enjoyed it.

The City of the Dead in all its mystery. This is the first book I have read by the talented Mary Walsh and honestly the cover drew me in immediately followed but the synopsis. Having finally been to New Orleans for the first time for St. Patrick’s Day in March 2023, I have loved finding books that are based there. The perspective in this book is unique as it is dual perspective but not rigid. Sometimes paragraph to paragraph is from the others point of view and sometimes an entire chapter is primarily one or the other. Jean Lafitte, and his crew visited Isla Mujeres, warned of the curses to anyone that removes anything from the island. After a treacherously long journey to New Orleans, they discover the cause of so many ailments, a gunner took six jewels from the island, two each of rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. Upon realizing they handled the man and looked to the Voodoo Queen herself, Marie Laveau for help on how to remove the curse. Unfortunately, she double crossed Captain Jean Lafitte and banished himself and his crew to their ship. Only she forgot her notes that revealed on the two-hundredth October new moon to rise over New Orleans the captain alone could leave the ship to find the jewels and remove the curse. Juliet Vance is a baker that is down on her luck and needed work she found a job at Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar. On the night of the new moon, she comes face to face with Jean Lafitte but only passes him off as another drunk. Only the next day everything changes she comes to feel safe with him and wants to help him in his quest to remove the curse. Nothing could have prepared her for what she faced next. Jean could see the ghosts of the French Quarter, everywhere they went but when he touched her, she could suddenly see them too. Will Jean find the jewels in time to free them all? How will Juliet handle the ghostly side of the city she adopted eight years earlier? What will happen if they fail? Some of the funniest parts are Jean Lafitte learning about modern things, and his first shower honestly gold. Not to mention his first time trying on a pair of jeans. Everything about this book immerses the reader. Honestly if you have been to New Orleans, you will easily picture the places in your mind, taste the drinks mentioned throughout the book. I personally have been to Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar, and it truly is just as it is described in the book. From the candles in jars on the tables to the stone furnace in the middle of the room. You can feel the history in the place. New Orleans is truly like no other place in the world, or at least the United States. The moment I left I wanted to return, and this book made me miss it more.

This book was better than expected. I couldn’t put it down. Ms. Walsh did a wonderful job. The characters were very well developed. This book has a little something for everyone: mystery, action, food, and adventure. I definitely recommend.

This book is a brilliant story and such a fun and intriguing read. I loved the world that the author portrayed in the book and how realistic and vivid it felt. I have never been to New Orleans but so many times I could easily picture what was being described. The characters in the book were all so interesting to read. They fit the story perfectly and they easily kept interest the whole way through. The story was fast paced and action packed. Watching the character navigate the obstacles and try to break the curse was fantastic and I could have read about more of their adventures. This is a great addition to the series and I am looking forward to reading more.

Set in New Orleans and amongst the mysterious streets of The Big Easy, this ghostly supernatural adventure had me hooked throughout. Juliet has her dream job as a pastry chef in the French Quarter, but when a food critic chokes on a traditional baby trinket in one of her ‘King Cake’s’ she looses her job. She finds herself going on a supernatural adventure looking for long lost treasure with infamous buccaneer Jean Lafitte. Juliet is forced to team up with the buccaneer known as the ‘Terror of the Gulf Coast’ and needs to quickly decide if she can trust him. Juliet is soon searching the haunted streets of New Orleans and getting help from local ghostly legends along the way. They only have two weeks to find the jewels and break the treasures curse. I found Juliet to be likeable and relatable whilst Jean Lafitte is a quirky character who you don’t know whether he’s trustworthy or not. I enjoyed the adventures the pair went on during their quest and the against the clock element kept the suspense high. The Big Easy setting was brought vividly to life through the descriptive narrative, making me feel fully immersed in the story.

What a fun read!! The Curse of Jean Lafitte is part of The Big Easy Collection…and I found myself just engrossed in a world of adventure, mystery, supernatural, myth, ghosts and intrigue. The appreciation I have this author and her research are top notch, and it makes me want to visit New Orleans one day!
Juliet’s world comes crumbling down after getting fired from her pastry job that she loved…but winding up meeting the famous Captain Jean Lafitte who needs her help! Who is Captain Jean Lafitte…and why does he need Juliet’s help…navigating this adventure learning of the curse that is bestowed upon Captain and his crew…Will Juliet be able to help the Captain before time runs out?
I loved this book so much and I highly recommend!!! I cannot wait to see what this talented author writes next!

I am a sucker for a book with anything supernatural ghosty but, throw in New Orleans and I am hooked. The Curse of Jean Lafitte did not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down. All the characters were well developed and great personalities. Full of mystery, action, Food, suspense, humor, adventure and who can resist some pirates. The history and the great recommendations of where to go and what to do on my next trip, a long-awaited trip to New Orleans. I absolutely recommend this book.

The Curse of Jean Lafitte (The Big Easy Collection #2) by Mary Walsh is the first book that I have read by this author, and after enjoying a few hours between these covers, it certainly won’t be the last. I wasn’t sure what to think when I first laid eyes on the book, but was hooked the moment I read the blurb and saw pirates, treasure, and New Orleans- so I snapped up a copy and jumped right in. #pirates #treasure # ghosts #adventure #winning This has all the ingredients needed to pull me into the story and keep me immersed the whole way through. It’s an engrossing supernatural story with mystery, suspense, ghostly dealings, a ancient curse, missing treasure, adventure, history, action, dramatic developments, pirates, treasure, myths/legends, tension, intrigue, a quest, time running out, agendas, and so much more. The characters are interesting, well-developed individuals with their own unique personalities, quirk, and flaws. They definitely added an extra element of interest and intrigue to the adventure, which wouldn’t have been quite as colourful without them. Now I am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Walsh’s work- asap… Happy Reading…
