Well written and intriguing, this historical fiction was engaging from the very beginning. It had a wonderful balance between its characters, their development and the rich backdrop of history it was set against. I couldn’t put it down and truly cannot wait to go back and read it again. Just extremely well written. Loved it.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Aptly named because that is how this book left me … unraveled. I was wrecked reading this book. Bondurant has an insane gift in tackling every day family dynamics and respectfully dealing with various issues or subjects in a way that creates understanding and empathy. To say this book was a beautiful and sloppy (due to all the tears shed) roller coaster would be an incredible understatement. From the cover to the content, this book was expertly crafted. Hands down one of the most beautiful books I’ve read this year. I absolutely loved it. Please do yourself a favor and get your own copy right now. And then sit down with your favorite beverage and box of tissues at the ready.

Intense. Thrilling. Action-packed and emotional. Good grief…I think I only just picked my jaw up from the ground and relaxed my grip from the white knuckled ride I just endured. McNamee is a brilliant author that continues to surprise and delight me with every book I am blessed to read from her. Truthfully just an intense and emotionally raw journey that felt much larger than the number of pages of the book. Masterful, powerful, worthy of a second and third reading as quickly as possible. Just loved it.

I was intrigued by the synopsis and am so glad I picked this book up. It sounded like one I would enjoy and I was right. It wasn’t predictable at all. Our female lead, Maia, was such a fun character. She felt very tangible and relatable. And the three djinn… well, they just made everything even more interesting. Overall this book was even more enjoyable than I expected and just a fun diversion.
