Wicked Games (Hidden Valley Elite Book 7) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Megan Pesek

Wicked Games (Hidden Valley Elite #7)Wicked Games by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Winter and Shane… they’re wicked!
Shane remembers how terrible Winter was to him in the past, yet he’s drawn to her now and he can’t explain why. Add this to the issues Shane can’t seem to shake with his granddad and father and it’s enough to send his mind reeling. Throw in a jealous fling too. Nothing about Shane’s life is normal right now.
Winter has lived a life filled with trauma and it doesn’t seem to be getting better anytime soon. Eventually she may need to face her past, including those she wronged.
Like the rest of the series, this book ends in a serious cliffhanger! And I’m anxiously anticipating the end of the series despite not being ready to let go of the characters anytime soon. You could start with Wicked Games, but you really should start at the very begging of the series.

Nightmares, memories, truth revealed. Oh lordy, the past month has gone so fast yet so slow as I eagerly awaited book one of the final duology in this series. Since the very beginning, Savage Start, back in February. Something about Shane was always so mysterious, we got nuggets here and there throughout the past eight books (counting the two prequels) but finally it is Shane’s turn to take center stage.
Shane Bennett, at the end of Cruel Love, was arrested for involuntary manslaughter and from page one we discover the encounter that led to that scar in his psyche. Six months of being a bodyguard for fellow Thane student Erica led to the moment he saw all his dreams disappear, but security tapes prove his story, and he is clear only for things to get worse. Winter Patten, after eight years she has returned to where it all began or in a sense where it all ended. Her father died, her sister murdered by their mother and her mother arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison. The Childress family, mom Brooke, dad James, and son Jaxon, took her in showing her what a real family was and what love truly is. Just transferring to Thane, where Jaxon attends, she is ready to start facing some of her nightmares and digging more into her past. In the first moment they see each other as adults everything changes. Winter sees someone she wants to intimately get to know. Shane is slammed with the nightmares of fifth grade, and Winter pushing him to the edge to the point he wrote a “note” and was ready to end it all. Only Phoenix was able to bring him back from the edge but not without a side effect in the way of a stutter that he had as a child.
Nothing will stop Shane from making Winter pay for what she did to him. Will Winter’s mom be granted parole at her first board meeting? Once again Isla Vaughn keeps her hooks deep in your soul with this next book in the Hidden Valley Elite series. The world is well developed and yet still morphing as the characters’ stories progress and more details are given. This was the perfect read for a warm spooky day, and not just because I had been waiting for it to finally release. Now the long wait for how Shane and Winter maneuver their circumstances and ultimately overcome them for the happy ever after at the end of, Wicked Ends, November 30th, 2023.

I am LOVING this whole series!!! I can’t wait to read them all! If you haven’t read the others in this series I personally suggest that you do. You don’t NEED to, but trust me when I say you will WANT to. Not only does it give you so many great books to read!! But they also, all give you SO MANY insights into all the other characters and what leads up to this story. When they mention certain people or things you won’t know everything and you’ll miss some great bits!! Trust me just read them all! PLUS the prequels! Again, those are not NEEDED, but they give you some back story each time that I personally really enjoyed. I really hate and love that you are left on a cliffhanger with each book. I hate it because I have to wait for the next one, but I love it because it keeps you clutched into their series wanting more and more. The author, I’m sure, gets this all the time!! Wicked Games is about Winter and Shane. They went to school when they were younger. Before Winter’s life imploded and she moved away. Shane remembers her though and he can’t get past that she was so horrible to him. Now they’re at Thane University together. Shane comes up with a plan for revenge. Pretending to be someone named Landon, he starts to “date” Winter. Winter is at University to work through some things in her personal life. Memories in nightmares that she can’t seem to understand. Memories that she’s scared to even understand. Winter was warned to stay away from Shane, but she just can’t seem to stay away from him. He has this grip around her soul and she can’t place it or him! As they get to know each other and things heat up they both start to really enjoy each other. Unfortunately, things never work the way you plan. I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil anything, but trust me!! Read this WHOLE series!!!!

Here we are at Shane and Winter’s story, this is one twisted tale. Shane hit a guy to protect a girl and he’s dead. Winter’s sister drowned and she’s accused of doing it. Lies, deceit, hidden secrets, stalker, and so much more, this author will have you buy the heck gripped in her story. She’ll have you right from the beginning so engaged that you won’t want to come up for air. I couldn’t put the story down. There is a cliffhanger!!! I’m eagerly awaiting book 2 of this set.

Wicked Games (Hidden Valley Elite #7)Wicked Games by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beware: This book contains mature content that some readers may find disturbing.
I have been waiting for this book. Wicked Games is the first book in Shane and Winter’s duet and an enemies-to-lovers, new adult, collegial bully romance. It is the seventh book in the Hidden Valley Elite series. We got introduced to the characters way back in the first book Savage Start.
This dark and scandalous tale is full of angst, drama, dark lies, secrets, jealousy, bullying and so much more. It is as intriguing as it is intense, and the fury and hatred is palpable.
She is living a nightmare over and over again. Now she has met him she should stay away but she is ensnared.
He is one of the dark and dangerous Elite, the Academy’s football stars, privileged boys who rule on and off the ground. Those who play to win and anyone who stands in their way is taken down. They play dangerous games where lies and lives are at stake. You do not want to be on their radar.
I have said it before with the other books but will say it again, there are characters you will love to hate and others you will hate to love and others you just want to lead them into the flames.
It is intense and intriguing and hard to put down to actually do some work. Thank God it is a short read. They are playing a dangerous game where lies and lives are at stake.
There are characters you will like but there are those who you just want to rip to pieces.
I look forward to more.

I’m back where it all began—and I mean all.

Where my dad died.

Where my sister was murdered.

Where my life changed forever.

I’m at Thane University for a reason—to work my way through the memories I can barely grasp in my nightmares. Then he walks in and our souls collide when our eyes meet. He’s a part of this, but I can’t place him. I don’t even know his name, but I know he holds more power over me than he should.

I need to listen when I’m warned to stay away because he’s dangerous. But it doesn’t matter what anyone says—staying away isn’t an option.

Wicked Games is an enemies-to-lovers, new adult, bully romance with plenty of angst. This book contains mature content that some readers may find disturbing. It is not a standalone and does end in a cliffhanger that continues with a ton of heat and a HEA in Wicked Ends.

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite Book 6) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Paloma Fierro 22/10/23

Aspen is a college student ready to be out of her parents house, both are making a disaster of a marriage and their daughters are done with it. A creative surfer full of plans to be an independent sales woman along with her sister can look at the future with happiness.

Phoenix is ready to be the best football player of the history and having none of his fathers shadow to bother him, although his grandfather does and it is a constant reminder of a tight leash. With this twin by his side this thing is an easy piece of cake, not to mention that the underground fighting can be the money injection needed to help his mom.

Now in a springtime moment Aspen met Phoenix in a beach party and hit it right off. This right before of both making the moment a little bit awkward after and declaring the war of distance between them.

Oh but life is not that easy for these students who are about to begin the lifetime adventure not only of their careers but of their existence.

Let me start this with PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS. Your mental health is important! With that said, let’s continue.

You must read Cruel Start and Cruel Hate first! Otherwise, you will be very lost. Did the cliffhanger at the end of Cruel Hate leave you wanting and needing to know what happened because same. Aspen and Phoenix truly are a force to be reckoned with. I love their emotions and chemistry truly meshed so well within these pages. I loved them so much. Isla is definitely on my immediately-read list and I can not wait for the next one.

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite Book 6) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Jessica Stone

Starting this review for anyone who doesn’t already know this is book 6 in this series and if you haven’t read the previous books you will have zero idea what’s going on, so go read them! They are super good, fun, fast, steamy reads.

This is the second part to Phoniex and aspens story and oh goshhhh it was so good. I love how much character development and relationships development takes place in this book, I always get so invested into the characters and I was genuinely worried for a bit that they weren’t going to get their HEA.

With every couples story’s coming to a head, more and more secrets and lies and manipulation within the family comes out and ties all the loose ends together and it has me feral the finish this series.

I think aspen faced some hard choices in this book and was put in some situations that she could have chosen to react to poorly with intention to hurt people like how she was feeling and she didn’t, and that speaks volumes for her character and character development in this story. Phoniex’s accident is heartbreaking, but honestly the best thing that could have happened to his character because it offer a sort of reset and ability for this book to head in a direction that you didn’t think it would reach in the first half of aspen and Phoniex’s duet.

All and all I’m thoroughly impressed with this series, the author has done a wonderful job of bringing everything together and leaving nothing behind to be forgotten in previous books. The characters are all real relatable people going through everyday challenges and situations facing their futures just we all have. I’m beyond excited for Shane’s Duet, this author loves her cliffhangers and I’m all aboard the Shane train to find out who/what his duet has in store for us readers.

Isla Vaughn keeps me tied to her stories of Aspen and Phoneix. Those two in the story suffer so much but how much will love and secrets can be handled? In this part of the story, Aspen loses the memory of Phoneix and their baby. But Phoneix loves the man that Aspen has become but when the memories come back to the top how much love does Aspen have to forgive the past and move forward? I can’t believe how much I love those two together but really who is in steak them or the baby? You just have to find out. I fall in love with her books and I know people will too.
Before reading this book I recommend you start from the beginning of the Hidden Valley Elite series.

The stories are so amazing that I have all of her collection in my wishlist as the physical books. I am hoping to have them all.

Cruel Love by Isla Vaughn is available now in eBook and Physical Book
⭐️⭐️⭐⭐⭐ Book Review

I have yet to read a book by Isla Vaughn that I have not liked. To this point I have read every novel in the Hidden Valley Elite Series and I am absolutely in love. Cruel Love picked up after being left on a cliffhanger in Cruel Hate which wraps up the story of Phoenix and Aspen. There has been an accident that takes Phoenix’s memories. When he wakes up he thinks he is 14 again. Aspen so desperately wants to tell him she is pregnant with their baby and that he is in college but she doesn’t want to distract Phoenix from his progress of getting better. When things go south she has to tell him everything.

I admire Phoenix’s determination to become strong and to never give up his dreams despite his accident. I admire his determination to be a better dad than he ever had in his life no matter the situation that got him there. After reading Cruel Hate I was worried that Phoenix and Aspen would not have a chance at love, that this would turn into a single parent situation. Cruel Love absolutely proved me wrong. I highly suggest not only this novel, Cruel Love, but this entire series to anyone who enjoys reading romance novels full of love, determination, and devotion.

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite #6)Cruel Love by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a fantastic conclusion to Phoenix and Aspen’s Duet! This book is my favorite so far in the series!

The book picked up right where the previous one left me hanging, and what a cliffhanger that was!!!! Oh my gosh…talk about a nailbiter! Phoenix is in the hospital and his memories of the last few years are gone which include his memory of who Aspen is and all of the struggles they have had to endure. However, he knows she has played an important part in his life, and he feels the same pull towards her as he did before the accident. There was a lot going on in this book, and I loved every minute of it!

Cruel Love was such an appropriate title for this particular book as Cruel Hate was a perfect title for the previous one. In that one, despite the chemistry and pull of Aspen and Phoenix, a lot of their emotions for one another could be construed as hate. There was so much back and forth and push and pull between them. If I didn’t know how they truly felt about each other, I would have thought they had no promise of a future together. However, Vaughn turned all of that negativity and anger on its head in this book. The accident has made Phoenix kinder, more patient, and less self-centered. Those protective walls he has erected aren’t there which in turn causes Aspen to be more vulnerable and trusting with him. This was a much sweeter read, and I enjoyed watching the two of them get to know one another and really fall for each other.

As they discover their love for each other, several background stories develop and connect as well. The mystery of Phoenix’s grandfather’s actions which involve Shane, Phoenix’s twin, is coming to light and more about their mother and father’s pasts is being discovered as well. It’s the perfect combination of romance and mystery.

Isla Vaughn is an expert in taking her readers on a rollercoaster of emotions. My heart has been broken and put back together, and she has made me so angry that I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room and throttle some of the characters. Yet, that is what a great writer does, she or he tugs at your emotions, and Vaughn is incredibly talented at doing that. It is what keeps me coming back for more. She has really set us up for what promises to be a great set of books next. It’s finally Shane’s turn to tell us his story, and if the cliffhanger we are left with at the end of this book is any indication, it’s going to be one heck of a ride!!

Like the other books, this one is just as amazing. This is ending of Aspen and Phoenix’s story. This story picks right up from the last book. Since his accident he hasn’t exactly been the same. He doesn’t remember their time together. Aspen is scrambling to juggle everything, plus take care of their baby. Will they find their way back to each other?

Cruel Love
By: Isla Vaughn

Isla Vaughn does it again. She has created an absolutely fantastic story with a fast paced plot and fantastic character development. This is the continuation of Aspen and Phoenix’s story and it picks right up where Cruel Hate left off. It is completely necessary to read the beginning of the series before reading this one. With this you are taken on a completely dramatic roller coaster. Watching how Aspen and Phenix interact and deal with every challenge that is thrown their way. In this story, there is absolutely more challenges and definitely there were times where I found myself truly wondering how things would work out. I recommend reading this book and every single one of Isla Vaughn’s books.

Before I start my review. You must stop and start with Cruel Start. It is very important to start at the beginning of the Phoenix and Aspens story. All because of an accident these two strong people have their whole lives changed. Memory loss, pregnancy and college. The ending will surprise your heart, that’s for sure. I love this story! The author leaves nothing out. I could not read fast enough. The very beginning gets your heart pumping and racing. This fast paced story keeps you entertained and your emotional rollercoaster at high speed. I could not put it down. Who needs sleep when you’re reading this story? The last installment from Cruel Start and Cruel Hate, Cruel Love fell flat for me! When I finished Cruel Hate I really had high hopes as the series had picked up for me but the story line of Cruel Love didn’t capture my attention as I had hoped! The awkward plot of Pheonix being fourteen and everyone keeping secrets from him just wasn’t the hook I personally needed. There was a slow build up to the end but not anything that really blew my mind!
Cruel Love also ends on a hook in hopes to get readers to continue on with the brother, Shane’s story.

This series is on fire. I am so hooked and can’t wait to see what comes next. This book had a lot of unexpected twists and turns for Phoenix and Aspen. I love the direction things are heading and can’t wait to see how they handle parenthood. This book had the friends and cousins fall to the back burner, while we focus on the struggles of Aspen and Phoenix during the pregnancy. The book picked up right where Cruel Hate left off, so don’t read them out of order. You won’t know what is going on and you will spoil the story. Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite #6)Cruel Love by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an amazing book and it was hard to put down. I finished the entire book in a day.

This book is a continuation of Phoenix’s story. There was a major accident that left him without a lot of his memories. Most importantly he forgot about his baby and the woman he knocked up. While he might not remember everyone around him does.

To make matters worse nothing is harder than waking up and not recognizing your own body and who you are now. Phoenix is not used to being calm and not going all out and giving everything his all. Doctors say one thing but sometimes it’s not what you might want to hear.

What happens when you fall for the man with whom you have a love-hate relationship? Will he ever remember that he has a child that is due to entire the world in a few short months?
