Price of a Rose: a Beauty and Beast tale (Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings Book 2) by Byrd Nash. I loved the first book in this series so I was so excited to read this one. It did not disappoint! Its the retelling of Beauty and the Beast and its done in such a way that I loved it even more than the original. Its the story of three sisters Lily, Rose and Poppy. When their father tries to steal the Moab Rose and gets caught instead of letting them kill him he gives the his daughters to the local “Beast”. Lily being the oldest feels like she has to run the household and take care of her sisters. Rose the middle child loves to garden even though its considered a “man’s work” and Poppy is a little Pippi Longstocking in her as she loves to read and magic! As they begin to make themselves more at home at “Thorn Hill” which is a character all in itself things begin to happen that no one can control! Read this wonderful retelling. You won’t be disappointed!

I enjoyed this shorter historical romance story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her yet. This is a story that pulled me in right from the beginning and held my attention to the end. This is one of my favorite genes and time in history. This author has created characters that brought the story to life and made it feel realistic. I had no problem connecting to the characters and picturing myself in their lives. This is a sweet romance fairytale story that kept me turning pages to the end. It is full of curses, magic and even some humor. I highly recommend picking up this book, you won’t regret it.

After gaining her B.A. degree in journalism in the year of the oil bust and 21% unemployment, Byrd scraped what some people called a living (she called it working starvation) employed as a reporter for a bunch of newspapers you never heard of in rinky-dink small towns.

Working the cop and school beat, she enjoyed the excitement of being underpaid by the sexist owners of newspapers while having her life threatened by a vagrant.

After her life wandered about, working as a museum director, horseback riding instructor, and kid’s party planner, she decided enough was enough.

Always writing, the many stories in her head are now given permission to fly free.

Dance of Hearts: a Cinderella Regency Romance Retelling (Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings #1) by Bryd Nash

This is the first book I’ve read by Nash. The author knows how to capture a reader’s attention. I absolutely loved this retell.

Melinda is now living like Cinderella. She is working for the family that has moved into her home. When she finds that her friend from when she was a kid is coming home things change. The quote I chose for Melinda is: “Perhaps it would be best to keep your finery a secret? Thus the gentlemen can be amazed and delighted when they see you?”

Kaye is coming back to visit after his great uncle left him the house. He is coming back after all this time and he’s hoping to find a wife. The quote I chose for Kaye is: “They don’t know me or what I look like . Never wrote me letters until last month. I only agreed in coming here as I thought it might be a change from town. We couldn’t visit Birch Hall. The roof is still being replaced.”

Highly recommended for Fantasy Romance lovers.

Dance of Hearts: a Cinderella Regency Romance Retelling (Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings Book 1)Dance of Hearts: a Cinderella Regency Romance Retelling by Byrd Nash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book reminded me of Georgette Heyer novels, a simple clean regency romance with a Cindrella twist. Though I admit, Cindrella twist was not necessary, even otherwise it is a lovely story.
Melinda Wychwood was successfully running her father’s estate, until he dies, when unfortunately, upon his death, the estate goes to his distant male cousin Mr. Davenport. Mrs. Davenport has a young daughter and she detests Melinda’s efficiency and beauty and tries to keep her away from the public eye.
Alexander Kaye Arundell, a childhood friend of Melinda, has recently inherited a fortune and is now everyone’s eye-candy. All the eager mothers are eyeing him as a match for their daughters. Arundell along with his friend Theodore Marlowe visit the country side with a a deceitful plot of their own. Will the ploy succeed or one of the gentlemen fall in love despite all his dislike towards the matchmaking moms process?
It is a very simple story and told in a very pleasant way. It is very difficult to find a sweet clean romance these days, especially retelling a romance in regency era is not easy. Minute attention has to be paid to the costumes and the accessories.
I finished this book in an hour and loved every bit of it. As I said earlier, even without the fairy touch, the story would have been equally beautiful.
Hope to see more such romances from this author.

An original retelling of Cinderella set in the Regency period and with a fantasy twist this is an enjoyable and intriguing read. Set in 1816’s Regency England, Melinda Wychwood was allowed to stay at her family home following her father’s death as long as she worked for her cousin as an unpaid housekeeper. Melinda is shunned by her family as she has fairy blood but her wild fairy background along with a magical dress might just be the key to her happiness. This was a short novel and a quick read but it had me gripped from start to finish and I liked the unique retelling of a well known fairytale.

This retelling of Cinderella is set in Chipping-Worth in 1816 where Melinda Wychwood is a young woman of twenty four with fairy blood, but she is shunned because of it and when her father dies and her home is taken over by distant relatives, she loses her place and becomes more of a servant than a cousin and her knowledge of running the farm and household is either ignored or used and the credit taken by others. She has friends in the older women who live nearby with whom she shares tea and refreshments, they also recognised how she was treated by her family.

At the dinner table, the family are complaining about something as usual and when Melinda is asked about it, the explanation was as usual ignored and responsibility denied, so the conversation turned to the town gossip and finds out that their neighbours son and a childhood friend of Melinda’s, Alexander is coming back to visit and so the talk turns to new dresses seeing as he is a well to do and and a bachelor to boot, this takes the attention away from Melinda and her thoughts about him.

We next meet Alexander and his friend as they are approaching their destination and decide to play a prank on his family, they decide to swap places and pretend to be the other for the duration of their trip and bet on the outcome of it. Thus, unbeknown to those around them, they play their parts, but as their trip lengthens, it becomes apparent that Melinda is not as thoroughly convinced as the others, however, believes that it is because of the years in between them seeing each other is to blame, so when the opportunity to go to an traditional annual ball, Melinda takes her cousin to the dress shop in the local town and while buying the dress for her cousin is tempted with a dress of her own, however, she politely declines the offer before leaving.

As the ball draws nearer, the temptation to get the dress so she can wear it herself to the ball increases, as does her wish that her childhood friend remembered her, but will she cotton on to the plan and get the dress, or will she remain in a loveless home with family who treat her more like a servant? The only way is to read this short story and discover the magic within the pages.

This is my first book by Byrd Nash. I loved this story. It was very well thought out and so sweet. I buried my nose in it and finished in no time. This will not be the last time I read something from this author. In this retelling of Cinderella our main female character is Miss Melinda Wychwood and she has some fairy lineage to her. Our “prince charming” is a childhood friend of Miss Wychwood who falls in love with her all over again. Such a great book!

This was one of my favourite retellings so far! The way she writes this story is magical and I loved it. I can’t wait for the rest of the series to come, it was a good story. I really liked that we have the regency period and it has the full beautiful ball gowns, chivalry, and proper etiquette. Melinda was a really interesting character and I love the interactions she has with other characters. It’s certainly a good story and when fairy blood meets tall, dark, and handsome you know it’s going to be good! Really enjoyed the book can’t wait to see where it’s going to go in the series.

Such a fun retelling of Cinderella. This book was giving me Pride and Prejudice vibes and I was loving it. I like how two friends devised the plan to trick everyone to see how they would treat each of them based on their status. Melinda however was not too sure about the identities of each man. Melinda is smart, independent and a little on the rebellious side. It’s sad to see she has to suffer with her cousins and Aunt who treat her like Cinderella was treated, but she found ways to get around her orders. I like how Kaye, her childhood friend fell for her, and she thought she was falling in love with the poorer of the two men… Such a nice short and sweet story.

This is a quick read that encompasses a wonderful faery tale. It is easy to read and enjoyable. It’s been a while since I’ve read a historical romance. I was delighted in being taken back to a different time. The story moves at a fast pace. The character easily drew me in. While I didn’t connect much with the Davenports, the two guys seemed fun and I liked their camaraderie.

Overall for a sweet, fun read..this is your book! Who doesn’t love a little faery tale?

One of the things I love about this book is that even though its written for a young audience it’s not without challenge. Its not dumbed down its written as if the author has respect for the book’s readers. And with all of that it’s just a wonderful story. Get this book, read it, let your children read it.

Dance of Hearts: a Cinderella Regency Romance Retelling is the first book in the Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings series by Byrd Nash. This story was a great balance of historical, romance, and fantasy that kept me interested the whole time. I loved the innocence of this story and how parallel it was to the well known story of Cinderella. As a fan of both Cinderella and Jane Austen, this story seemed to be the perfect blend of the two. The author did a great job developing a really interesting storyline and characters within a novella setting. I look forward to reading the next story in the series.

Dance of Hearts by Byrd Nash was a great read! I went into this novel having some idea of what to expect, as it was a retelling of the classic story Cinderella, but it completely blew away my expectations! I definitely wasn’t expecting what I got. And it was such a quick read as well, I finished it before I even realized I was close to finishing it! I wasn’t expecting it to be in a historical setting, and I really enjoyed that. It was very different from the classic tale, but so good! I loved the fairy lore involved in the retelling, and the romance as well. I’m so glad I picked this novel up to read. I can’t wait to read the next retelling!

One of my favorite fairy tales is Cinderella. Byrd Nash has a unique vision for his Cinderella. I was sucked right into the story that takes place in Historical England. Melinda has been in charge of her family estate. Oh did I mention that it was left to her cousin who is treating her like Cinderella? The plotline has secrets, twists and turns, and some surprises along the way. Will Melinda stay being a Cinderella forever? Does Melinda have a plan to get back at the cousin? I highly recommend reading this story especially if you love Cinderella.

Dance of Hearts: a Cinderella Regency Romance Retelling (Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings Book 1) by Byrd Nash is a fantasy romance story. This intriguing tale is set in Regency England, 1816 and is an entertaining short story that is an easy read. It is not a classical tale as such, but it does have the same feel and reminds me of regency romances done by the famous Jane Austin. It is a charming and sweet romance with a little drama and deception as you would expect. Byrd’s Cinderella retelling is heart-warming with a little magic and Fae and has witty humour.

Dance of Hearts was a sweet and fast paced read with all the nods to one of my favorite old school fairy tales, Cinderella, and was written in a way that brought the magic of Jane Ausent novels that so captured my mind growing up. I was hesitant because historical dramas do not tend to be something I personally choose to pick up anymore. I do love the classics so they are often held to standards that are high in my personal opinion and I more often than not find things are a bit lacking for me in modern day historical reads. This one kept things light and fun and yet made you feel as if you traveled back to a much simpler and magical time.

Melinda Wynchwood is our main character and she is quite the character at that. While her latest predicament is not the best she keeps her spirits in a way we could all take a lesson from. I enjoyed the way she was written and the way this story had unique parts to it that are not quite what you would expect. I am eager to see what else Byrd Nash has in this particular genre.

Its the story of Melinda Wychwood has managed the family estate, The Grange, while her father has been sick. Once her father died the estate is left to a cousin (male of course) and she is no more than a lowly servant. When her childhood friends arrive back in town they have a plan of their own. They bring secrets, twists, lies and a plan to help Melinda. Melinda is beautiful, talented and funny. She has so much more potential than being a servant. Will the plan work? Will Melinda decide to be a servant forever or will she try to break out of her cell? Read Dance of Hearts for a fun historical Cinderella story!

This is the first book in the Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings series. This story is set in the 1800’s in England and follows Melinda. Melinda took care of her father’s estate while he was sick. When he died, the estate was left to a distant relative. She had nowhere else to go and is allowed to stay and work as a maid for her cousin – for free. This was such a refreshing retelling of Cinderella.

This is a retelling of the classic fairytale of Cinderella. It is a historical romance which remains true to the era it was about. The story as a whole had a Jane Austin feel to it. It was beautifully written. Although short, the characters were well rounded and had depth to them. You feel the unfairness of Melinda’s situation and will jump forward joy when it’s her time to shine. I loved the addition of the Fae element which gave the story a supernatural twist. If you are looking fir a quick read with a happily ever after then I highly recommend this book.
