I really loved this book; it is a Victorian romance retake of the childhood fairy tale Beauty and the beast.
The story is centered around three girls, Lily, Rose and Poppy and Rose’s romance with a wealthy rude beast, Sir Griffin. Their father, obsessed with a rose called Mab’s perfection attempts to steal it from Sir Griffin, and later loses all his three daughters to him in a gamble for the rose.
The three daughters take up work in Sir Griffin’s household to pay off their debts, Lily becomes the official housekeeper, Rose takes charge of the garden work and Poppy becomes his unwarranted secretary.
But Rose starts falling for Sir Griffin and the beast also softens towards her. But there are obstacles for their romance to succeed and the curse on the house and Sir Griffin to be lifted.
This is a very charming story and has all the elements of the fairy tale intact. The beast is rude, the house has its magical charms, the garden holds the magic flowers and the library has the magical books.
But unlike the fairy tale the book has three sisters instead of one, and then there is a deceptive fairy magic which is at work to blind Sir Griffin from seeing his true love.
I enjoy books from Byrd Nash, it has a dash of the Victorian romance twist to the fairy tales and it is a feast to read. Looking forward to more from this author.

I loved this sweet romance and retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in a Victorian England in 1890. This is a really original and unique take on a well known and loved fairytale. With a mix of historical romance, fairytale fantasy and sweet romance this story had me happily turning the pages and I read this novella in one sitting. This was an enjoyable and lighthearted read with plenty of humour in the narrative and the storyline was a twist on the traditional tale as old as time. Three sisters have to intervene so they can determine their own fate when their father loses a game of cards to the local recluse, Sir Griffin Garrick. Lily, the oldest is not afraid of hard work and so takes over as his housekeeper, Rose loves the outdoors and so works in his forgotten garden whilst the youngest, Poppy acts as his secretary. The three sisters find the reclusive’s house strange as it’s full of books on magic and rooms that keep moving. Out of the three women it is Rose who could be the key to unraveling Griffin’s curse but first he must recognise what is real and what is fairy magic. I loved the descriptive narrative and wonderful world building throughout this novella and it made me feel immersed in the story. The storyline flows well and the characters come alive due to the authors vivid descriptions of them. A lovely heartwarming and engaging read.

I really enjoyed this twist and remake of the story of Beauty and the Beast. I loved the characters and how it kept the story of the spell being broken by love.

On the edge of town in a house lives Sir Griffin Garrick. He is a man who likes his own company and the rumours are he is a horrible rude man. Some even call him a beast.

So when he wins a game with a local man his prize is to have his 3 daughters. How these 3 women would change his life he could never have seen happening.

Lily is the eldest and set to be married she takes the job of housekeeper to restore the beautiful home to its former glory.

Rose is the middle daughter and her love of flowers and gardens sees her tending to the garden. She hopes to bring it back to life and also to thaw the heart of the beast.

Poppy is the youngest and as a student of magic she is tasked to work out what or who caused the spell on Griffin and how they can remove it.

Little do all 3 sisters know that the answer is easier than they think and all it takes is love to break the curse. Love and the help of a red rose.

It’s a short story that packs a punch with the exceptional world building and character development that Byrd Nash put into it.
Only Fter reading this did I see that this is book 2 so it can be read as a standalone and I’m definitely grabbing book 1

Byrd Nash does a great job leaving readers wanting additonal versions on her take of those classic fairytales. Can’t wait to for more in this series of reads

So I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I was excited to start the second one especially as it’s beauty and the beast and that is my favourite fairytale so high expectations. Maybe that’s where I went wrong though having high expectations.
It was good but it just wasn’t amazing.
The dad loses a game of cards and as the story goes he trades his daughter away for a rose to the beast. His daughter take charge of their own fates. Lily becomes the housekeeper at the manor and Poppy beigns reading magic books and becomes his secrety. Rose then begins to work magic in his garden. She is going to be the key to unravel the curse that is on him.
Although as we all know it’s never simple.
If you enjoy retellings and fairytales and magic and little bit of historical romance this is your book.

This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I love fairytales and I think that the author did a good job with this one. There is magic, a curse, the beast and a happily ever after. This is where the similarities end. In this story, the father gambles for a rose and loses his three daughters. The sisters go to Thorn Hill Manor on their own terms and decide to help the beast in their own way. Lily becomes the housekeeper to clean and refresh the house, Rose decides to revive the gardens as this is her strength and Poppy being the youngest becomes his secretary. The author adds some twists to keep it interesting. The characters are kind and compassionate. My favourite had to be Poppy. She is a headstrong fourteen year old with a will of her own. The story is charming and enjoyable. You won’t be disappointed.

So this was a great story and I was very excited to read it as beauty and the beast is by far my favorite story. This was definitely a unique telling of my favorite story and I really enjoyed it. The characters are complex and bring the storyline to life. It’s different and I found myself completely lost in the pages. The author does a wonderful job of capturing a timeless tale and breathing a new life into it. I liked this one just as much as the first and I can’t wait to see where the author takes readers next. Five big stars all the way and highly recommended!

Price of a Rose: A Beauty & Beast Tale is the second book in the Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings series by Byrd Nash. I have read most of Ms. Nash’s other books now and I can honestly say that this is definitely my favourite of them all (so far).
As the title would suggest, this is a historical fantasy and an original retelling of the classic fairytale, Beauty & the Beast. The story is so wonderfully woven – with magic, enchantments, curses, beasts, fairies, mystery, danger, hidden agendas, a little humour, a wager, a game, and full of rich historical details.
Byrd Nash certainly knows how to tell an enchanting story- as she easily pulled me into her ‘world’ on the very first page- and had me captivated the whole way through. I loved her characters and was completely invested in them and the outcome of the story. I also loved all the little twists she added to make the story uniquely hers.
I was so taken with the world she created, that the story ended before I was ready to leave. Now I can’t wait to see what she does next. I need her next book like yesterday.

Thank you, Byrd Nash!

Price of a Rose: A Beauty & Beast Tale (Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings #2) by Byrd Nash

The second book by Byrd Nash in the Fairytale Retelling Series. In this book we get to see a new version of Beauty and the Beast. Beast has three Beauty’s instead of one. Byrd Nash has a certain way of retelling the fairytales.

Sir Griffin has found himself in a bit of a dilemma. He now has a debt to receive from Mr. Parker. His three daughters. The quote I chose for Sir Griffin is: “Do not remove anything from the grounds of Thorn Hall. I shall know if you do.”

Lily is the eldest Parker daughter at the age of 25. She is soon to be married and will leave her sisters behind. When she learns what went down between her father and Sir Griffin, she goes to see what she could do to get out of it. The quote I chose for Lily is: “I don’t know. I imagine a house that size would have one. Give me a few days to get my feet under me, before you visit.”

Rose is the middle Parker daughter at 21. She loves the garden and spends most of her time out there. When she and Lily go to Thorn Hall she finds the roses. She is the only one who has seen Sir Griffin. The quote I chose for Rose is: “Why be a domestic? We may be daughters of a city-man in trade, but our position in society is not so low.”

Poppy is the youngest Parker sister at 14. She’s too young to be married so her sisters try to find what she could do to pay off her part of the debt. When her father questions where the oldest are she tellls him. The quote I chose for Poppy is: “Lily is the new housekeeper at Thorn Hall, and Rose is helping Sir Griffin with his garden. They are paying off your gambling debt.”

Highly recommended for Fantasy lovers.

How I loved this story. I love fairy tales anyway and Price of a Rose: a Beauty and Beast tale (Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings Book 2) by Byrd Nash is a wonderful retelling. That might stop some folks but all the stories we tell are just a retelling of a basic theme. All of them. This one is masterfully done. I love how the magic doesn’t override the humanity, that the story is not just about magic. It’s a perfect mix. I do love a good clean love story and this one certainly satisfied that appetite.

Price of a Rose: A Beauty & Beast Tale by Byrd Nash was a great read! It read just as easy (if not easier) as her Cinderella regency romance novel. If you’re a fan of Sarah J. Maas, you will love this novel, because with the fairies it reminded me so much of one of Maas’s novels. This book was quick to read, had a great storyline and plot and amazing characters. It also had a happy ending, for the people who love that. This was book so beautifully written, adding the magical and fantasy in such a way it didn’t seem to fantastical. I loved reading this book and can’t wait for the next! I really hope Nash writes another regency fairytale retelling!

After reading Dance of Hearts by Byrd Nash, I didn’t think I could love a book more. Well, I was wrong. Price of a Rose is spellbinding and pulled me in to the point that I felt I was the main character. I was living the life of Rose and I didn’t want it to end. I truly couldn’t put this book down. I was up almost all night to finish reading it. And that’s something I don’t really do anymore considering I have to be at work at 8 AM. But it was SO WORTH THE LACK OF SLEEP!!! I must admit, Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney fairytale of all time, but this put such a spin on the story that I think I love it more than the original. And that’s me being 100% honest and something I never imagined I would say. There is love and a happily ever after to this story, but with so many twists and turns I never could have seen this ending coming. Byrd once again sends us back into the 1800’s with a third person retelling that is reminiscent of the 1991 animated film. It’s a very short story but the attention to details and the characters keep you entranced and feeling like it’s you. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK ENOUGH! Please, please, please give this book a read.

Robert Nathaniel Parker is a man who tries to get what he wants, but he is seldom successful and his run of bad luck continues when he is caught trying to steal a rose bush from a neighbouring landowner, one who is known locally as being a beast of a man, but when he is invited in to see the master, he is treated as a guest and offered wine and a game of cards, just as he seems to be winning, he bets his daughters against this rose bush, however, his luck doesn’t hold yet again and he loses the bet, now he just has to tell his three daughters Lily, Rose and Poppy about the situation. As usual, he leaves it up to his eldest to break the bad news, so she tells her other sisters and they work out a plan to uphold the results of their fathers mistake, but in such a way as the rest of the villagers don’t suspect the truth of the situation.

The next day, Lily and Rose go to see the owner of the mansion and while Lily goes in to see the beast himself, she agrees to be his housekeeper in the time between then and when she leaves to be married, reluctantly the beastly man agrees, but without knowing that he is a Parker, as she goes to introduce herself to the household and take a look around the enchanting of not deteriorating interior, the master goes outside and finds Rose in the garden. Rose is obsessed with the outdoors and sees beauty and intrigue in the dilapidated gardens, so when she is approached by the master of the house, she introduces herself and her agreement with him ends up being that she shall work in the garden to restore it to its previous beauty which is no laughing matter as it is in as bad of a state as the house.

As time goes on and the two sisters get on with their jobs in the house, their youngest sister Poppy makes the acquaintance of the master and when caught in his library and seeing that he is having troubles writing his letters, Poppy ends up being his secretary, but she is using that as a front purely to read his books, especially the ones to do with magic to try and remove the curse. The house contains many secrets and as the sisters continue to stay around the estate, experiencing them first hand in some cases, can they work out how to break the curse, or will an unexpected visitor derail all their attempts at restoring happiness to the grand estate and it’s master? This is a sweet retelling of beauty and the beast full of romance, magic and mystery.

Victorian romance novels are not my thing but I will give almost any spin of a fairytale retelling a try…
I recently read Byrd Nash’s Dance of Hearts and enjoyed the Cinderella tale, I couldn’t pass up a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Price of a Rose did not disappoint! There is so much to be loved about this novella. For a tale as old as time, it’s hard to see it retold with a unique spin but Byrd Nash hit this one out of the park. I love that the story involves three sisters, each with something different to offer. It doesn’t hurt that Rose is the middle daughter, much like yours truly…
I love the fairy element as well.
I would definitely recommend this 4 star story to anyone that enjoys light hearted, fun, clean romance. Added points if you adore historical romances.

I’ve read books by Byrd Nash prior so I knew I’d be hooked on this book before I even started it. I wasn’t disappointed. She did such a great job with this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. In this book, the beast isn’t presented with 1 girl, but 4 of them. This is basically saying that true love, or love if it’s there, doesn’t matter how many other people try to get in the way. I love the word building Ms. Nash has and I get excited when I see another of her books pop up. For sure read her series Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings, they are worth every second.

I fell in love with this book from the beginning chapter and honestly I couldn’t stop reading it. I would start doing housework and immediately return to reading this book. That’s how much I loved it. I needed to be Cinderella getting chores done but was so immersed in her world I couldn’t. There were so many references to the original Cinderella that made this a fairytale mixed with old English language. I am a sucker for fairytale romances and this one put a spell on me. I found it to be a very sweet romantic fantasy with some magic, history, paranormal & drama mixed into it. Not to mention the typical fantasy of a damsel in distress, but in a woman supporting woman manner which is important today because there is such a lack of it in my opinion. The writing is full of so much wit and humor, but they come in just the right places at just the right times. I absolutely cannot wait to read more from this author as she is new to me. But she drew me right in to her tale and I can’t wait to see what other surprises she has in store for me.

Price of a Rose: A Beauty & Beast Tale by Byrd Nash is the second story in the Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings series. This is a short but delightful read. Set towards the latter part of the 19th century in Victorian England there is a story with magic, love, and romance. I love stories from this period or written about this period but the author overwhelmed me with this story. She retells one of my favorite fairy tales in a new and wonderful way. This can be read and enjoyed by teens and older quickly. I like the new aspects she brought into the story and the use of the three sisters. Everyone is their own person and allowed to grow and change as needed. The first story in this series was wonderful as is this one and I look forward to what Byrd Nash is going to do next.

Wow! I enjoyed this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The book is perfect and the writing is fluid. The story really touched my curious side. The world that was built is set back in time but that some magical elements to it. That house! I would love to wander around and open doors just to see what would happen.

The characters are fantastic and The real fun starts upon meeting them. They come in all shapes and forms and each one added to the story. Some are gruff, delightful or devious. I was held in awe as each one was introduced. Wondering who they are and what they can do.

Overall this is simply outstanding and I loved it. It left me with a smile of my face and lightness in my heart. The author did a great job with the world and the characters. This is my favorite of hers yet!

I have really enjoyed the Historical Fairytale Retellings from Byrd Nash. This one of course brings us her rendition of Beauty and the Beast. I feel like sometimes the retellings can become a bit much from authors all the time, but this was a unique version that drew me in very well. Nash really reimagines the characters into some awesome and fun to read scenes that are original feeling to me. I really loved that she kept Poppy very much as a bookworm and built from there. It made me feel as if I was visiting a grown up version of one of my absolute favorite Disney movies of all. I will of course be back for more retellings soon I hope from Byrd Nash.

I have found a new love and that is the Historical Fantasy genre. Byrd Nash has such a descriptive writing style. Her words paint beautiful pictures in my mind’s eye. This book is written in the Late Victorian time period. The characters are fully developed and complicated. This story has the Beauty and the Beast fairytale story within its contents. I feel in love with this story from the very first page until the last page of this book. There were some moments that I definitely gripped my kindle a little harder. I would love to have been Rose. She is the middle sister of three girls. She works within the forgotten garden. There is a beautiful romance that develops within the story. I highly recommend this book for middle school age and beyond.

I really enjoyed this re telling of Beauty and the Beast. The characters were so easy to fall in love with and the story was very well done. Unless I just wasn’t paying good enough attention, I did not see it coming when we find out who the fairy is that cursed Sir Griffin, but I liked how she put him to a test to see if he really had changed or not. The character of Miss Amaranth really got on my nerves, I understand her role and she was very well and annoyingly written. I could tell that Sir Griffin was no in the least bit interested in her and was always looking for Rose. At one point in the beginning I was scared he was going to fall in love with Rose’s sister Lily instead. I really loved this story and wish it didn’t have to end, I can’t wait to see what Byrd Nash has in store next!

Price of a Rose, the second book in the Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings series. Lily is the oldest and who has had the responsibility of running the household at a very young age since the passing of their mother. Rose is the middle daughter, who is a bit of a rebel dabbling in gardening, which is considered “man’s work”. Then there’s Poppy who is a book worm with a passion for magic. Byrd Nash has an uncanny way of writing, old-style with a fresh, new outlook.

Price of a Rose: A Beauty & Beast Tale (Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings Book 2) by Byrd Nash is wonderful. When your father loses a bet in a card game against the “Beast” of Thorn Hall in exchange for one of his three daughters, the sisters find a way to ensure their fate turns out to their liking. Lily, Rose, and Poppy each find themselves a job at Thorn Hall manor. Lily begins running the household, Rose works to reclaim the overgrown garden, and Poppy searches out books of magic while working as the “Beast’s” secretary. I loved hearing about the magic that has overtaken Thorn Hall and how the sisters have helped to save the hall, the beast, and others who were affected by the fairy curse. The sisters and other characters in this story make it so much fun to read!
I’m looking forward to more in the Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings series!

This is a retelling of the beauty and the beast story. Been sold is not what the girls wanted who has there father sold one or all. The historical elements of this book brings it more to life there a few twist and turns as nothing is straight as a die. What kepy going through my mind is why is Sir Griffin cursed what did he do that is so terrible. Well worth a read.
