Dance of Hearts: A Cinderella Regency Romance Retelling by Byrd Nash is a wonderful retelling of the Cinderella story. The story takes place in 1816 England. We first meet Melinda Wychwood when her father’s ailing health keeps her at home to spend the precious time left to him and also to manage the estate. After his death, her father’s estate passed to a distant cousin and Melinda basically turns onto a servant in the very home she grew up in.
This story is well written and I was hooked right away. The characters are lovely other than the cousin’s family who anyone can tell are not kind to Miss Mychwood.
You can’t go wrong with a story like Cinderella – this retelling takes it to the next level. It’s a novella so it doesn’t take long to read it but you will adore it.

Dance of Hearts: a Cinderella Regency Romance Retelling by Byrd Nash is the first book in the Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retelling series. This is a short, sweet story that is highly enjoyable. Although it is a retelling of the classic Cinderella story it has a lovely unique feel to it thanks to the regency setting and the fantasy element the author has added. The book was well written and so easy to connect with. The characters were engaging and it was great to be able to enjoy their story a clean and refreshing fashion. This book really is a fun and interesting book to read and I would certainly recommend it. I enjoyed it from start to finish and am looking forward to the next in the series.

Like (I think), so many others, I love a good retelling of a classic fairytale. The fact that Byrd Nash used a historical time period to do so, is unique and extremely intriguing. Byrd Nash is an author that is completely new to me and Dance of Hearts is a novella that is completely outside of my go to genres.
I thought this novella was extremely well written from start to finish. Admittedly my only set back was the language tied into a period piece and again, this is only because this is not my go to genre.
I would definitely recommend this book to those that enjoy a short, clean romance with great imagery. I look forward to reading more from Byrd Nash in the future!

This short Novella is a lovely little read. Byrd takes you right back to the regency period where life is full of proper etiquette and ball rooms and dreams. Melinda Wychwood had successfully managed the Grange, the family estate whilst her father was ill upon his departing from this world it was handed to another male in the family. Kaye and Theo banter was well written. It a lovely retelling of the Cinderella story.

Dance of Hearts: A Cinderella Regency Romance Retelling is the first book in the Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings series by Byrd Nash. I have read a few of Ms. Nash’s other books and enjoyed them, so when I saw this pop up as a recommended read, I grabbed a copy and dove in. As the title would suggest, this is a historical romance set in 1816- taking the beloved fairytale, Cinderella and giving it a bit of a twist.
There’s more to Melinda Wychwood than meets the eye, as we soon discover. After the death of her father- Melinda’s cousin takes ownership of the house relegating Melinda to servant, in her own home. Things take an interesting turn when a former childhood friend returns- bringing secrets, hidden agendas, and revelations to the fore- which gave the story added intrigue and definitely pulled me in.
This is a short story, with a brisk pace- which made for a quick and easy read. It is a sweet, clean, romantic fantasy- with paranormal elements, magic, history, drama, and the satisfying happily ever after we expect from our fairytales.
Intriguing. Entertaining. Original.

Thank you, Byrd Nash!

After gaining her B.A. degree in journalism in the year of the oil bust and 21% unemployment, Byrd scraped what some people called a living (she called it working starvation) employed as a reporter for a bunch of newspapers you never heard of in rinky-dink small towns.

Working the cop and school beat, she enjoyed the excitement of being underpaid by the sexist owners of newspapers while having her life threatened by a vagrant.

After her life wandered about, working as a museum director, horseback riding instructor, and kid’s party planner, she decided enough was enough.

Always writing, the many stories in her head are now given permission to fly free.
