The Crocodile Makes No Sound (Lord Hani Mysteries #2)The Crocodile Makes No Sound by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second story in the Lord Hani Mysteries by N.L. Holmes. The story has historical fiction, mysteries, and cozy mysteries. I found myself turning the pages quicker than the previous one. The story had some elements for only a certain character. This was well written so that I did not get confused but it enhanced the storylines. The characters were fully developed and true to the time period for what it was written in. The attention to detail in not only the storyline but in the character details as well. If you love history and mysteries, you will enjoy this story as well. I highly recommend reading the first book as well to get the full enjoyment of the Lord Hani series.

Moonlight (Rose of Anzio, #1)Moonlight by Alexa Kang
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I won’t lie this is not normally my genre, historical romance, but once I saw it was a WWII era read I knew I would love it. I really have a penchant for this historical time period in our world and all these different angles and aspects of it. I will say this was quite a unique point of view and I enjoyed that departure from the typical story told around this time. Alexa Kang was also a new author to me so I am delighted that now I have a new author to discover more after having finished this one.

Rose of Anzio – Moonlight is the first book in the Rose of Anzio series by Alexa Kang. This is definitely one of those reads that appears to set us up for the rest of the series. It is more informational and really makes the reader fall in love with Tessa Graham, our main character. We find her as she is moved to Chicago out of fear for her safety in England during the war. There she must learn an entirely new way of life and find her role amongst the people she is surrounded by. The story shows a really good span of things that a girl could experience as she comes of age in a trying and scary time for the world. I very much cannot wait to see how her story progresses with the next book in the series.

This is the second book in The Lord Hani Mysteries Series.

This was a great mystery that keeps you hooked from the first page. I love the fact that the author is knowledgeable about ancient Egypt and their beliefs and their way of life. It makes the story all the more real. You can actually imagine it happening.

There are a loads of characters in this story which at first glance can be confusing but once you start the story they all fall into place and it is easy and enjoyable to read.

Rose of Anzio – Moonlight (Volume 1): a WWII Epic Love Story by Alexa Kang – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur

Moonlight (Rose of Anzio, #1)Moonlight by Alexa Kang
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story begins in a rose garden in Chicago where Tessa is seen clipping some roses in a messy fashion by Anthony, who proceeds to tell her off. He goes into his house to see his parents and proceeds to tell them what has happened outside, he is shocked to learn that Tessa is a member of the family and that she has come over from England without her parents to wait out the war. This first meeting sets the tempo of their interactions as time goes on and even though they live in the same house, they lead very separate lives.

Tessa is fourteen and thrown into a life which is completely different to her one in England, with all the pressures of high society and private schooling when all she wants is to be left alone so she can enjoy her own company. That is until she makes a friend at the post office where she posts letters to her parents, as this friendship starts to develop and she goes to visit them where they live, another whole new world opens up to her. It is more like what she was used to at home and she relishes the both the familiarity and newness of it all.

Anthony is eighteen and studying at the University of Chicago and spends most of his free time training with the University swimming team, the rest of his time he spends with his friends or coming home over the holidays to see his close knit family. Their discussions also become about the war in Europe and how this is affecting their lives as well as Tessa’s. They have strong views as to why Americans shouldn’t join in and these discussions become more heated and opposing to the ones he is hearing at university, but there are always going to be discussions about the war and when the conscription bill becomes the law, this triggers the need to make a choice as to which side he is on.

When Tessa and Anthony’s paths keep colliding and their opinions of each other change, there are sides to both, which the other cannot see and as the war comes closer, their lives will change, in ways which they will not expect. As the war comes closer to them, their friends are drafted and chance encounters fling Anthony into Tessa’s other world.

This is quite a shock to both of them, but will their differences keep them apart and become a hurdle that they cannot overcome, or will they choose the same sides and handle the war together in their own ways?

This is a story of love, friendship, loss and courage as they face the life that pre-World War II and it’s challenges will bring them.

The Crocodile Makes No Sound (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 2) by N.L. Holmes. This one was just as good as book one. The author definitely has a way with words. From page one I was completely drawn into the story world that’s been created for readers. The characters are complex and easy to connect with they truly pull you right into their world. I was happy to get lost within the pages of this book. While there’s lots going on the author has a way of making it all go smoothly and never lets things get so crazy it’s confusing. It’s a well written story and the characters are well developed. I’m definitely looking forward to more from this author. Four stars and highly recommended!

Rose of Anzio – Moonlight (Volume 1): a WWII Epic Love Story by Alexa Kang is a gripping and effortless tale of two people trying to make sense out of their chaotic world. I found this book to be highly detailed and so well written that I was instantly hooked by it.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I have to say I loved every bit of it. I always do enjoy a well written war story and this has to be one of the best that I have read. I really felt like you connected the characters and felt their experiences with them.
The author has done an amazing job of portraying what it must have been like during war time America and exploring the emotions that must have been felt at the time. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book and I am so excited to read the next in the series!

It is a nice read that is full of emotions as two people who can’t stand each other learn that there is more to the other. The Crocodile Makes No Sound (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 2) by N.L. Holmes is a historical mystery story set in ancient Egypt and Lord Hani returns where the danger is very real for himself and his family as he searches for the truth. This story had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. NL does a great job of setting the scene with being very descriptive in the writing. Once again there is a lot going on within the story, but NL does a great job of shaping it all together. The thrills and mysteries intensify as we go along on the journey with Lord Hani to find those behind the lies and secrets.

The Crocodile Makes No Sound is the second book in The Lord Hani Mysteries by N.L Holmes. This is another cosy, historical mystery set in ancient Egypt.
We met Hani, a diplomat, in the first book- and team up with him once more as this mystery plays out. With blackmail, politics, religion, and mystery all woven together, it makes for an interesting read. We are transported to the time of Akhenaten- which the author does a brilliant job of recreating and bringing to life.
As with the first book in the series, the author’s knowledge and passion for the period really shines through in the story and through her writing. This passion certainly added to the ‘richness’ of the story.
Looking forward to seeing what Hani gets up to in Book Three!

Thank you, N.L Holmes!

I love a hero who can stand in his truth more than an allegiance to what they’re more responsible to do by nature. In this one, a lot is going on as we follow our lead hero in making a lot of tough decisions to ensure the safety of what’s right around him. This one is not only a race against time but a sway in the right direction for everyone as a whole.

I love historical romance but not usually during this time period but when I read the synopsis for this book I decided to give it a go and I really enjoyed it. I have read books by this author previously and I really like her detailed writing style, she really brings her stories to life through her imaginative writing. I can always easily imagine what I am reading and I think that it really helps when reading historical stories. The characters were probably younger than I usually read about but their story was heart-warming to read about.
Overall an enjoyable coming of age story, one that I really enjoyed and would recommend. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I loved reading the book The Crocodile Makes No Sound (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 2) by N.L. Holmes. It pulled me in from the beginning and I was hooked. This story has Lord Hani in several serious situations at once. The danger to him and his family becomes very real. What will happen? Read this book to find out. I love the character of Lord Hani. When he is involved in an investigation, he does his best to find out the truth behind it. He is always walking a fine line with his personal beliefs and those of the current king’s. He is a man who loves his family and has friends that he can call on when needed. This story had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. The author does an amazing job of making me lose myself in the time period. Also, making both the storyline and the characters come alive. I enjoyed reading about many of the additional characters as they have been brought forward from the first book. This story includes secrets and danger. Rose of Anzio-Moonlight is the first book in the Rose of Anzio series by Alexa Kang. This is my first read from Ms. Kang- and I am happy to say that after reading this fabulous story, it won’t be my last. I have to be honest though, as I wasn’t sure I was going to even like this story when I first started it- but after a few chapters I was definitely hooked and ended up reading it in one sitting.
This is a superb coming of age historical story, set during WWII- it’s a captivating period piece with plenty of drama, self-discovery, politics, history, and romance.
Fearing for Tessa Graham’s safety as war closes in, her family sends her (from England) to stay in Chicago. There, she is thrust into the unfamiliar world of wealth and privilege- but soon discovers that there is another side to this new society. With music and dancing, romance and coming of age, politics and choices, all interwoven within a social snapshot of the times- makes this quite a captivating read.
Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Thank you, Alexa Kang!

This book was written in ancient Egypt and the detail the author added not only to the description of life, but the characters was amazing and off the charts. It truly brought the book to life and made it more enjoyable to read. Hani is sent to investigate a murder and bring back proof to his superiors, so justice is served. Bird In A Snare is the first book in The Lord Hani Mysteries by N.L Holmes. This is an historical mystery set in ancient Egypt, which the author does an excellent job of recreating and bringing to life. I could feel the authors passion for the period shine through in her writing, which added to the whole atmosphere of the story.
Hani is a fantastic character, who along with the rest of the cast, help to bring this story alive. He is a loving father, husband, and a respected diplomat. This mystery begins when he is sent to far away Syria, uncovering a murder which could bring a great political backlash. Add in more dead bodies, corruption, politics, hidden agendas, and simmering tension- and this story really takes off.
Looking forward to seeing what Hani gets up to in the next book!

Bird in a Snare is the first book in N.L. Holmes’ Lord Hani Mysteries that takes us into the 13th century Egypt. This is my first read by this writer but if I am anything to go by what I just finished reading, this will be not the last of what I will have read by her! If you are a history buff and love historical fiction (and not just historical romance) then congratulations, you have a great opportunity to discover a new writer that will knock your socks off.
The writer is giving us a brilliant historical detective, Lord Hani, who is a king’s envoy. He is sent to investigate a murder and what he discovers is a deadly and treacherous plot that takes him on a dark and dangerous journey. The vivid descriptions of Egypt of that era pulls you in, simply close your eyes time to time and you will feel as if you are there, with him as you feel how passionate the writer is about the ancient history. Once you finish the story, you walk away knowing much more than who was behind the murder and the plot, you will walk away knowing much more about the Egyptian history. When I heard that the writer is an archaeologist and university profession by trade, I understood how she had managed to paint such a detailed and real picture. I will need to go and pick up the second Hani mystery now!

Bird in a Snare (The Lord Hani Mysteries)Bird in a Snare by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a long novel but the storyline flows along at a good pace and is full of drama and mystery and I was disappointed when I had finished it. Egyptian diplomat Hani is sent to Syria to investigate the murder of a leader of bandits but his investigations are complicated by the religious reforms of the new king. Having encountered corruption and further murders, Hani starts to think that no one can be trusted, not even the new king. However Hani must find evidence so that the wrongdoers can be prosecuted. I felt completely immersed in the story due to the authors wonderfully detailed descriptions of both the characters and the setting, so much so I felt I could be in ancient Egypt. The glossary of terms and places and the glossary of Gods at the end of the book is very helpful and I found the authors historical note extremely fascinating especially discovering that Hani is a real person. The list of characters was also useful but I feel it may have been even more so if it had been at the start of the book as there are many characters to get to know and keep track of. Reading this novel the authors research and knowledge shines through, all wrapped up in a great murder mystery thriller. Lord Hani is a great main character and I look forward to further books in this series.

Bird in a Snare (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 1) by N.L. Holmes

Bird in a Snare is the first book in The Lord Hani Mysteries by N.L. Holmes. This is my first read by this Author but definitely not my last. This is a murder mystery that I couldn’t put down once I started reading. I had to know what was going to happen next. Hani is sent to investigate a murder but what he finds is much more than that. As the investigation continues and things become more complicated for him will the superiors accuse the wrong person? Sometimes you don’t know who you can trust, find out what happens next in this must read. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Bird in a Snare (The Lord Hani Mysteries)Bird in a Snare by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I loved the political intrigue and detective aspects in this book. It was definitely full of suspense and tension, even if the pace was a little slow at times. The historical details and accuracy in the setting were fascinating to discover and added to the plot as well. The characters were richly developed and their motives often surprise. I really enjoyed the mix of history and mystery.
