This was a interesting murder mystery set in the 1930s. The author does an amazing job of researching and writing about era really bringing it to life. I loved the main character of Sparky. She strength and resilience as well as her attitude to let nothing stop her really endeared her to my heart.

Sparky hasn’t had the easiest life. She is an orphan living on the streets struggling to survive. On her birthday she decides to venture to her special place with the treats she has saved. When she arrives she finds a little girl. What she doesn’t realise at first is that the little girl is dead.
In panic she raises the alarm which in turn turns her into the number 1 suspect. Not only is she the suspect of that murder but everything bad that has happened is now placed at her feet. So she is now on the run and with the help of an eccentric actress( who all the children think is scary and dangerous) and her friend from the streets Bobby they need to find out who the murderer is to clear Sparky’s name.

This is a fast paced murder mystery which i really enjoyed. The author’s writing style and descriptive writing really brought this story and characters to life.

This is book three in the Mission Belles series. I read this book before I found out there were two books before it. However, I didn’t feel like I was missing out and this novel does well as a stand alone. This book is full of history with page turning plot points the drive the story first. There is plenty of action with plenty of twists along the way. If you enjoy historical romance enemies to lovers with revenge and danger, this is a book for you.

I have really enjoyed this series and visiting new places in my books. This is the third book in the series and follows some new characters. Isabel is the princess of Portugal and loves her country. Her brother, the king, sends her off to visit her cousin and find out what is happening in Spain. Henrique is selling his land and moving out of the country, but agrees to accompany the sister of his good friend (the king) to Spain. Henrique is witty and charming and knows how to woo the ladies. Isabel has been protected and doesn’t agree with his philandering, but she sees a different man underneath the façade. In Spain, they are busy with many events planned by her cousin, but also in a lot of political meetings. The true king of Spain is invited to the palace and tries to sweep Isabel off her feet in order to get back to his rightful throne. The story kept me guessing and I learned so much about life in the 1800s.

Very well written and I can picture beautiful place in Portugal and Spain….The Truth About Myths is book 3 in The Winemakers series. I really enjoy this series and though this book could be read as a standalone…I would highly recommend reading this series in order. The author is fabulous and her storytelling is amazing. The romance, tension and banter between Henrique and Isabel…I loved it.

When Isabel is asked by the King to go to Spain to help out….it is her duty to do so. What is not anticipated is who is accompanying her….none other than Henrique….which at first was a bit trying. Knowing how proper and set in her ways Isabel is….will she be able to let a bit go and see another side to Henrique and will he fight for her?

Delightful and Wonderful story. I highly recommend this series.

This is the first book in the series and I can not wait to see what this author has in story for the rest. I found Joy’s Christmas Escape to be a perfect read for the upcoming holiday. This book was clean, if you know what I mean, and it also is very much historically based. I enjoyed this read more than I expected to and I intend to read the remaining books in the series. I highly recommend this book.

The Cold Kid Case is the first book in the Sparky of Bunker Hill Mystery series by Rosalind Barden. It is an historical cozy mystery set in the 1930’s Las Angeles with a spunky, street smart, precocious tween named Sparky as our MC.
I love cozy mysteries, and this promised something a little different, so I was intrigued by what I might find under the cover.
Sparky takes us on a crime and investigation adventure when she becomes a murder suspect and has to work to clear her name. The story contains all the historical detailing, language, sights, and societal norms that you would expect from that era- it is richly detailed, and the descriptions are quite ‘visual’, and the characters are many and varied- but all are quirky and ‘colourful’. The author definitely did a great job of bringing everything to life.
From murder to mobsters, movie stars, and a little mayhem this turned out to be an intriguing and fun read.
Looking forward to ‘The Cannibal Caper’ (Book #2) and ‘Monkey Island Murder’ (Book #3).

Joy Stewart is a woman who has just lost her grandmother, the last family member she has. As the funeral is wrapping up, a man claiming to be owed money by her grandmother makes her a proposition of forgiving her grandmother’s overinflated debts, if only she would agree to be his mistress. After Joy’s reputation is trashed and her job as a schoolteacher is ended due to the influence of the “business man” in question, who has local law enforcement, and judges in his pocket, Joy runs away from Memphis, the only home she’s ever known. At the same time, Marshall Jack Bolling is becoming the guardian of not only his 4-year-old twin niece and nephew, but also the caretaker of his mother, after his sister and her husband die in a fire. Both reach out through their pastor’s to a matchmaking service to try and solve their respective issues. What neither of them expects is to find a happily-ever-after. This is a good book, and I don’t even normally like historical fiction, but I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one day. This book does have a Christian basis to it, but it’s not so much a part of it that it feels “overdone”.

Joy was taking care of her grandmother until she passed away. Joy thought she inherited the house and the property until the sheriff told her she had to leave. Her grandmother owed a lot of money and since Joy was the only surviving member it was up to Joy to come up with the expenses owed.<br />Joy is shipped off to Virginia City for an arranged marriage to Jack. Jack happens to have custody of his niece and nephew after their parents passed away. Joy and Jack have 2 weeks to get to know each other and get married. The commissioner comes back for Joy saying he belongs to her. Jack defends his bride to be, saying she belongs to no man. Jack has told Joy she can leave at anytime if she is uncomfortable. Jack has help with restoring an old jailhouse into an actual home for the four of them. Jack and joy are to get married on Christmas. And she gets the best presents of all.<br />This was such a cute read!!

What a tale. With no one to trust and nowhere to turn Sparky a young street-smart girl is on the run. Sparky is set to clear her name and find a killer, but friends soon turn to foes in this fun, mystery filled tale.
The Cold Kid Case – A Sparky of Bunker Hill Mystery is set in the 1930’s. Even though the book is aimed at a younger audience, it was still enjoyable even at my age, if not a little crazy.
This book of filled with plenty of quirky characters and lots of crazy action as Sparky and her would be helpers that tend to hinder rather than help track down what happened to the Cold Kid.
It took me a while to get used to the way the story is told but overall, I found it to be an enjoyable read.
To find out what happens in this story full of mayhem and madness you will have to read it for yourself.

This was a heartwarming romance with a festive feel which I thoroughly enjoyed. Schoolteacher Joy Stewart is looking for a Christmas miracle following the death of her grandmother who raised her dies, leaving her with debts to pay. When the man she owes money to says he will take her as payment Joy needs to find another option, and then discovers that her Grandmother already had a plan. Meanwhile, Marshal Jack Bolling is left bringing up his four year old twin niece and nephew following the tragic death of their parents. He’s struggling to find a nanny especially on his Marshal’s salary, but then his friend Pastor North suggests that he look for a wife instead. With it being so near to Christmastime he could also do with a Christmas miracle to find a suitable wife and quickly. This was an enjoyable and engaging read, and I felt fully immersed in the storyline as both the characters and setting were brought to life by the descriptive narrative. I look forward to reading the next book in this new series. This romantic story also had a lovely festive feel about it which has put me in the Christmas spirit!

After reading this book, I have decided that I actually love historical romance. This book is amazingly written and allows you to picture everything non your head with a clear concise picture. What happens when the person chosen to escort you is your brothers best friend but also a huge rake? All of that is described in the book and you won’t be let down. This is a very quick read because the words flow off the pages and you will get caught up in the story. There is a banter between the characters that has me wishing for more. The passion and the chemistry is off the charts in this book. While the steam in the book is amazing, you will also love the story line. I love the way that the character growths also involves the political satire of the time period. This book has so much depth that I am sold on reading everything the author writes. Even though this is the third book in the series, I feel that you could just pick it up and read it. I am going to read the others in the series because I can’t get enough.

This was a sweet Mail Order Bride book. Joy is in an impossible situation. Pomeroy is a wealthy snake, determined to have her, and will stop at nothing to get her after her grandmother passes away, leaving a supposed debt owed to him. This was a lovely story about protecting those you care about and finding love along the way. Jack is a fierce protector but he can’t do it all alone.

This is my first book by this author which I enjoyed reading from beginning to end. I look forward to reading more from them in the future. I enjoyed how the author used details to pull me into the story. They made the story feel realistic. This is a Christmas romance story that will put you in the holiday spirit. This is a well written story about Marshal Jack and the two four year olds that he has inherited. His problem is that he was not expecting them and with his income does not have much money for a nanny. What happens when it is suggested to Marshal Jack that he marry? This is a great story that is hard to put down. A story where the characters are full of emotion and will pull at your heartstrings in parts. They are connectable and have great chemistry throughout. They made the story easy to read and brought out the holiday spirit. I highly recommend this book

Mark Sutherland loves adventure! In order to support his ideal lifestyle, he became a reporter. His dream is to go to the Yukon and experience the Canadian Gold Rush. However, he has to pay and exorbitant amount of money to get there. Not to mention, a year’s worth of supplies (including a stove) to be able to survive there, because once you get there, you are iced in until spring. So to save his money to get there, he takes other trips out to Texas and Oklahoma. He has other adventures and ends up befriending Gus, who becomes a good, reliable friend. When he returns from those, he finds out that his trip has been approved, but it comes with a few strings. Can Mark agree to the terms to gain the trip of a lifetime? Or will it become too much to ask of him?

I really love reading this author! Their stories always make me feel like I am right there in history watching the adventures play out in my mind. The characters are written in such a relatable/likeable way that it is easy to want to be their friend! I also enjoyed the mention and interaction with Emma from the author’s Notebook Mysteries series (if you haven’t read that series, you should!). I love that their story is still continuing on with the next generation. It was an enjoyable read and am looking forward to the next in the series!

I adored this book the second I started reading it, it feels so realistic. I love that it takes place in 1846 during the San Francisco Gold Rush, not only was it a great love story of enemies to lovers, but it was packed with excitement of a woman (Elena Santoro) seeking revenge for the death of her little brother Antoine. Elena has given up everything in her life to find out who was the person who killed her little brother, and then to seek revenge by taking their life. Elena must wait for her brother’s friend to finish up his jail sentence before asking him who caused the death of her brother. Carmelo tells Elena that her brother’s killer is none other than the man who had refused her advances in her younger years, none other than Sean Mitchell. Once she finds out this information, she sets her plans in motion to seek out Sean and take his life, once done she will finally settle down and marry. This story has so many unexpected surprises that just keep happening, that no matter what well-set plans Elena has set, something keeps going awry to make her doubt herself as well as her feelings for this man whom she has never forgiven for refusing her prior advances. Will Elena be able to fulfill her promise to her mother’s dying wish, or will she answer the call of her heart instead? The characters in this book are so full of passion and fire that they just capture your heart upon meeting them, you begin to doubt what is suspected of them, and it is so exciting to watch their story play out with all of the unexpected incidents that continue to befall our two main characters, Elena and Sean. I am so excited to go back and look up the other books in this series because this is the first book I’ve ever read of Pamela Gibson. I am amazed at how well she portrays the time of the events, it’s like I was right there experiencing the gold rush and fearing for the crowds of people all coming to San Francisco, California. What an amazing period to place such a wonderful story in.

Joy’s Christmas Escape is the first book in The Marshal’s Mail Order Bride series by new-to-me author P. Creeden. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Creeden, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her books, but the blurb intrigued me enough to want to find out, and I love a good historical romance. So I let my one-click finger loose and snapped up a copy to set off on the adventure.
I am excited to find that this is part of (what appears to be) an 8-part series, something to look forward to. The author also has numerous other books to her name, so I can feel a book-binge coming on.
This was a sweet historical romance with all the ingredients needed to make it a great read:

-Hunky lawman who desperately needs a nanny ✔
-Cute kids ✔
-Emotion ✔
-Superb historical detailing ✔
-Set at (in and around) Christmastime ✔

A sweet story that is well worth the read.

This book was entertaining and keep me engaged. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I was super excited for this book. I’m a Christmas person and love stories and such about Christmas. That being said, this wasn’t as Christmas as I thought it would be. You follow Joy and Jack as they learn about themselves and each other. This is a unique story with a deep root of love. The first few pages took me some time to get into but if you push through, you’ll fall in love with it.

Joy is a schoolteacher who loves her pupils very much. When her grandmother falls ill and subsequently passes away, Joy isn’t sure what she’ll do. A very vile man comes at her and demands a large sum of money to pay off her grandmother’s debt, a debt that Joy cannot pay. When she tells him this, he says he’ll take her as his mistress instead. Joy isn’t about that life and does everything she can to get away from him.
Marshall Jake is alarmed when he sees fire coming from the direction of his family’s home, a home that his sister and her family now live in. When he arrives, he sees the twins, but not his dear sister or her husband. It doesn’t take Jake long to figure out that they’ve passed on and he’s now responsible for these two precious souls. How can he maintain his role as the town Marshall, take care of his mother, and raise these two kids?
When Joy’s minister suggests to her that her grandmother set her up with a “mail order bride” service in Denver, Joy’s first thought is “no way”. However, with Pomeroy and his goons after her, she decides that maybe grandma was right after all and knew she would need an escape. Joy takes a chance and answers an ad for the Denver agency. She immediately falls in love with Nate and Natalie and life in Denver. Would she be able to fall in love with the Marshall though?
I LOVED this book! It is in my top reads for this year. I’m a huge fan of historical novels and especially ones with mail order brides. This was a clean read, which I also much prefer! I will be looking for more titles by this author in this series.

Mark Sutherland is a reporter for the Chicago Tribune that reports on a little if everything. We met him in the Notebook Mysteries so we know he’s always up for an adventure. The Yukon Gold Rush is happening and Mark is making his way there. As with her other works the author has put together a fun adventure that makes you want to see what happens next. This was a quick and easy read that ties in with her Notebook Mysteries nicely. I hope we get more stories of Mark in the future.

This is a historical romance (one of my favourite genres) with an twist adding more genres which I absolutely adored! The combination of historical romance, mystery and paranormal was brilliant.
The author’s writing flowed nicely and the way it was written, from the descriptions to the narrative, did an excellent job of setting the scenes and allowing the reader to become immersed in the era and story. I enjoyed the storyline and the internal conflicts some of the characters faced. They felt believable and came across as relatable.
My favourite character was Vanessa. She wasn’t demure in the way is expected of the time. She knows what she wants and acts as she decides. I did like Jacob as well, I thought they were good together, but Vanessa stole my attention from the start.
A great read to have taken on holiday with me, I didn’t want to emerge from the book at all. I will be looking for more from this author, I’m now obsessed!

Overall, The Cold Kid Case by Rosalind Barden is an exciting and engaging mystery novel. The story follows a determined and spunky eleven-year-old girl named Sparky who finds herself on the run and wanted for murder after discovering a dead girl on a park bench. Set in 1932 Los Angeles, the book paints a vivid picture of the tough times and struggles of the era.

The plot is well-crafted, with plenty of twists and turns to keep readers engaged. The characters are memorable, especially Sparky, who is easy to root for. Tootsie, the former silent film star, and the mysterious goblin also add an interesting element to the story.

The writing style is engaging and well-paced, making it easy to get lost in the story. The author does an excellent job of capturing the time period, and the dialogue feels authentic.

Overall, The Cold Kid Case is a great read for mystery fans, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an engaging and well-written story. I look forward to reading more from Rosalind Barden in the future. It is NOT a kids story despite the cover, and found it an intriguing read.

A historical romance with a paranormal twist. Of course, I am a big fan of attention to historical detail to transport me to another time and place, which the author certainly delivers in spades. But I was also pleasantly surprised by the fast pace of the plot and the suspense of the novel overall. The drama and the mystery of the novel made this a page-turner for me. Whether or not you’re a fan of historical fiction, I’d definitely recommend this.

This was an entertaining cozy mystery. Sparky is quite little protagonist. I found the story to be humorous and mysterious. It kept me engaged all the way through. The story has quite a colorful cast of characters that you are not likely to forget. I definitely couldn’t put it down. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.

I loved this story. Joy and the Marshall both needed each other and it seemed like divine intervention. The writing of the story was such that you felt like you were write in it. I do have to say that after the scene with the bad guy, I felt like I needed a shower. That man threw such shade that you felt it coming out of the book. Joy and the Marshall had a big adventure to undergo and they had a lot to go through. I found the story made me smile. It’s a Christmas theme, that always makes for a wonderful story. The characters were well-written. It’s a great book that is a must read for me.

I have not read anything by this author but it looks like she writes in a few different genres which is good because I really enjoyed this book and her writing style so I will be more than happy to read more of her work.
Eight mail order brides for eight Marshals I can’t wait to read more.
Joy’s Christmas Escape is a sweet, heartwarming historical romance story. This captivating mail order bride tale is fast paced, interesting with plenty of drama, some suspense and tension and a little danger in the wild west. It is the first book in The Marshal’s Mail Order Bride series.
This is Joy and Jacks story and add in a little Christmas elements and it’s a winner in this new series from Ms Creeden. The characters were wonderful. The plot and the characters were well thought out and well written.
Luck has never been on Joy’s side. Now she needs to escape the clutches of a man she wants nothing to do with and becoming a mail order bride may just do the trick. She hopes against hope that she is not going from the pan to the fire.
Marshal Jack finds himself in a situation he never thought he would be in. However, that necessitates him to step outside his realm of comfort to find what he needs. What he finds is something he never thought he wanted nor needed.
I look forward to reading more books in this delightful series.
