The Sun at Twilight is Book Four in the Empire at Night Series. It is a historical mystery that centers around the character of Tudhaliya IV in the Hittite Empire. He wants to rule his empire as past leaders have but his advisors have other ideas on how he should rule. The way in which he wants to rule is viewed as weak and Tudhaliya risks losing his kingdom to his cousin Kurunta. This was a great read that was vivid, and rich with historical information. It was full of mystery, action, suspense, conflict, betrayal, and family drama.

The Moon That Fell From Heaven is Book Five in the Empire at Night series. It is a Historical mystery that combines both fact and fiction together. The story centers around Ehli-nikkalu, the eldest daughter of the Hittite Emperor. She feels unloved and unwanted by her family, her husband, and her husband’s family. Her husband feels that she is useless because she cannot bear children, yet he rarely visits their matrimonial bed. She is a kind and gentle soul that is easy to empathize with. Ehli-nikkalu stumbles onto some dangerous information and must find a way to get it to her father while trying to keep her kingdom safe from the threat of war. This is a well-written book full of historical details that transport you back in time. This book had action, suspense, danger, angst, murder, betrayal, and twists and turns.

1897by Kimberly Mullins is an intriguing adventure story set in the late 1800’s. The historical detailing, as expected from Ms. Mullins, was on point, her descriptions and attention to detail really setting the scene for her story. I have loved reading the Notebook Mysteries series, so when I saw that this was being released, I was excited to find out what it would contain. Even though this is a standalone story, it does connect to the Notebook Mysteries series in a small way, as our MC here has ties with Emma who is the MC of the Notebook series. I thought that small detail added an extra element of interest to the story, for me. Mark Sutherland is an intrepid reporter travelling to the Yukon to report on the gold rush there. But this novel is beautifully layered, combining multiple threads which Ms. Mullins has deftly woven into a rich and complex production. Mark’s journey is full of harrowing moments, harsh conditions, mystery, tension, dramatic developments, challenges, family, friendship, hope, resilience, determination, courage, danger, agendas, and even a little romance. His introspective inner dialogue adding an extra facet to the storyline too. The ending of this book was sweet, and left room for more adventures in the future. This is the first novel about Mark Sutherland and his adventures, and hopefully will continue in a series. I like historical fiction that has a real basis to it, and this novel is based on some historical facts. At the end of the book the author does add a small section of historical context of the novel was based on. There is some mystery and suspense has Mark goes on his journeys as a reporter. The interesting plot line keeps the reader turning the pages to find out what happens at the end. I’ve heard several works by mullins, and I always enjoy the stories that she writes. This book is no different!

Another great book from this author and what I hope is a new series. Mark who works for the paper as a journalist and butnis always seeking adventure. Mark soon finds that adventure is all around. This was an awesome read with all the side adventures leading up his bug adventure. I also loved that Mark was a character in the authors other series. It was as if he got his own spin off. You’ll find yourself falling on love with old characters and welcoming new all in the first chapter.

I absolutely love Kimberly Mullins! Every thing I’ve read of hers, has been great. I haven’t been disappointed. It was a great, fun and super fast read for me. Historical fiction isn’t my top favorite genre but I have to say, the author has a way of drawing me in and enjoying every page. I love the notebook mysteries series so I had to read this! So glad I did. I highly encourage you to check out her work. If you want an adventure, this is for you.

I have been a fan of Kimberly Mullins since reading the “Notebook Mysteries” series so when I saw this one, I knew it would be another win.
I love the historical adventure that Mark has embarked on. What started out as a simple trip to Texas to investigate a mysterious object in the sky leads him to several other places, as well as interesting stories to write for the paper. Cameo appearances and/or mentions from characters in the Notebook Mysteries series also show up, making this even more memorable.
I’m excited to read more books about Mark and his adventures. I highly recommend this book!

I have read a few books by this author, and this one may be my favorite. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked it up as it isn’t my usual genre, but I’m so glad I gave it a chance. The vivid description of imagery alone was enough to make this stand out, and I really felt surrounded by each scene. You get pulled into each character’s life and feel incredibly invested in such a short amount of time. There is plenty of action and danger, but also passion and strength throughout this book. I highly recommend picking this up even if it doesn’t seem like your cup of tea. I believe this author will pleasantly surprise you with the wonderful world they create surrounding the emperor’s daughter!

1897: A Mark Sutherland Adventure is a historical fiction novel written by Kimberly Mullins. JThe story follows Mark Sutherland, a globe-trotting adventurer, who is hired to investigate a strange occurrence in Texas, among other places. Along with his partners-in-crime, Hans, they soon find themselves caught up in a dangerous plot involving a dangerous cult and a powerful weapon.
The novel is set in the late 19th century and captures the essence of the era through its attention to detail and atmospheric descriptions. The author’s writing style is engaging and keeps the reader’s interest throughout the book.
The characters are well-developed and relatable, and the plot is well-crafted, full of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the end. Additionally, the novel does not shy away from exploring complex themes such as loyalty, betrayal, and vengeance.
I personally thought the two interconnected stories were disjointed, but keep reading- the author does combine them! I also question if the amount of people in 1897 were literate, but would have to do more research (more piqued my curiosity). I loved the reference to chasing windmills and Don Quixote- adequately describes the theme!
Overall, 1897: A Mark Sutherland Adventure is an entertaining and well-written novel that is sure to appeal to fans of historical fiction and adventure novels alike.

Every book I have read by this author has been part of the same series. This is the first book that deviates away from that and it is even better than I expected it would be. Right from the start, the book is well written, imaginative and intriguing. There are so many twists and turns as the book develops that I could never figure out how I thought it would all turn out. This author has a very distinctive writing style and it is one I have come to appreciate through all the books I have read. Reading this one, it is great to see that her style and skill for creating enjoyable books isn’t specific to a single series. This book was brilliant from start to finish and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is an author that I have enjoyed reading her books from the first one. This one may just be my favorite yet. This is a story that takes place during the time that everyone was in search of gold on the Yukon. Mark is a reporter who wants to go to the Yukon to see what all the fuss is about as it happens. He takes you on his adventure on how he gets there and what he finds along the way. I enjoyed his character and what he brought to the story. He pulls you into his world with ease and keeps you there until the end. I found this book to be fast paced and hard to put down. A well written story with an adventure which may or may not lead to happiness for all. This is a great story that I enjoyed reading for sure. I highly recommend this book.

This was a fascinating story. Starting with the crash of a UFO in Texas and through his adventures all the way to the Yukon, Mark is on the journey of a lifetime to get the best stories. He meets some unique characters that join him. He finds some amazing and intriguing mysteries such as what’s with Gus? The characters are enough to keep you enthralled. Even our friend, Emma, makes a quick appearance, that was a treat. The book kept me engaged and was delightful.

4.5 stars I really enjoy reading Kimberly’s Notebook mystery series so when I saw this new book, I was excited to see what it was all about. It is easy to be drawn into the worlds that Kimberley creates with historical facts, the adventure, the intrigue and mystery, suspense and drama that she writes so well. There are twists and turns to keep you on your toes. 1897 takes us on a historical trip where there are many interwoven story threads cleverly put together to make one interesting and compelling read. It is the story of Mark Sutherland a reporter who gets a job of a lifetime. Kimberley’s narrative is vivid in her descriptions that it is easy to imagine all that she describes with mysterious craft crashes, oil discoveries, gold to be found and new friendships forged. There is a lot going on in 1897 which adds to the anticipation of the story. You can feel the excitement, the hopes, the dreams, the failures, the wants and much more that the well written characters get caught up in and their discoveries. Come along on this exciting adventure. I can’t wait for more of Mark Sutherland and his adventures.

This is a historical story that is very fill of vibrant details and vivid descriptions from a time long ago. I found this story to be very captivating and well written. The attentioto detail that the author put into the story made it both realistic and relatable. This book was truly a treat. I highly recommend.

This book is full of historical details. I was captivated by the history enmeshed within the story. Poetry from an ancient civilization is featured. In a diplomatic mission gone awry, a poet inadvertently finds himself cast as a hero, if only for a small moment in time. As a woman, I enjoyed reading the author’s details concerning women’s rights at the time of this ancient, historic civilization.

The Moon That Fell from Heaven by N. L. Holmes is a historical fiction story about Ehli-nikkalu, the eldest daughter of the Hittite emperor. She is married to one of her father’s vassals in a political alliance. When Ehli-nikkalu discovers some dangerous information she does her best to try to get it to her father. Along the way, she adopts her scribe’s children who were left orphaned when he tried to deliver Ehi-nikkalu’s message. This story was a good read. It has so much information as well as plenty of twists to keep you engaged. I felt so much sympathy for Ehli-nikkalu. Times were so hard for women who could not bear children, especially queens. In her new adopted family, she finds the love that she’s been craving and you just hope everything works out for her. The story does take a bit of time to get going but it is well worth the read.

This is book 5 in the Empire at Twilight series. I have to admit this author is one of my favourites of all time. I love the stories. I find myself completely captivated by these historical stories. The author’s attention to detail and research into the times and the historical happenings really gives this story dimension and makes the reader feel transported back to a different era. The attention that the author pays to the characters making them fit into the time period the story is set into just adds to the incredible world building that the author is able to accomplish.
This is a story full of twists and turns that keeps you hooked. With danger, intrigue and murder all playing a part as well as decit and political alliances going wrong This story has something for everyone.
Ehli-nikkalu is the daughter of the Hittite Emperor. She has considered herself not loved by her family and that is confirmed for her when she is married off to a man who doesn’t care for her either as part as a political alliance. Ehli-nikkalu is unhappy and wants to leave her husband so when she finds proof that her husband is plotting to go against her father and remove him from the Throne she knows she needs to stop this from happening. Can she get word to her father in time to stop her husbands planned attack? Will her family start to see her as a valued member of the family finally? And when the 2 people she entrusts to take the message to her father are found dead does she stand any chance at all of letting her father know before it too late? What danger is she putting herself in and what will be the consequences should her husband finds out she is planning to betray him.
As someone who loves history this author’s books definately speak to me and grip me from the beginning. The author is amazing at bringing the past into the future and allowing the reader an opportunity to experience life in a different time period than our own.

This is such an interesting fictional look at the Hittite Empire. I did not know much about this empire prior to reading this book, but I feel like I learned a whole lot and was entertained throughout the book. N.L. Holmes is a fantastic author whose passion for history exudes from her work. Every book she writes has an impeccable attention to detail and makes you feel as if you are fully immersed in the Empire. I definitely recommend picking this one up and reading it! You won’t be disappointed.

Another fantastic read from this author – I absolutely adored this book. from start to finish I was completely captivated by the story and everything that was going on. The authors writing is mesmerising to read at times, full of detail and vivid descriptions of what is happening, I LOVE historical romance but they are usually set in London so I love that I’m reading about a different setting for these books and I love s good enemies to lovers romance so this book ticked everything for me!
The characters Isabel and Henrique were so wonderful to read about they had so much passion and chemistry between them. I loved reading their story. Another huge point for this book is the dual POV which meant we really got to see and understand both of the characters but for me in particular Henrique.
I am really looking forward to reading more from this author again in the future and 100% recommend this book and series!

I am never disappointed when I read a story of this author. This story was very compelling. Jacob has been made a guardian of Vanessa. All he wants is to marry her off, that is until he spends time with her. She is everything that he does not want yet he can’t fight his feelings. This story is full of deception and secrets. There is even a ghost. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Historical romance reads are y absolutely favourite – I love getting transported back to a time where the pace of life was so different to today. I’ve read a few books by this author now and I just adore her attention to detail – I can absolutely imagine everything that is happening in the story from the characters clothing to the scenery around them.
In this story Vanessa returns home to find family she is not expecting. Her Guardian, Jacob, is definitely not impressed with having to look after Vanessa and desperately tries to marry her off and I knew as I was reading this that this is certainly not what Jacob really wanted! I thought that they actually made a really nice couple and I was rooting for them the whole way through. This story was really good, it had everything I love form a historical romance with a few added ghostly extras!
I am really looking forward to reading more from this author again in the future.
This was a perfect addition to the winemakers. Possibly even the best. I love the history integrated in as well as the depth of detail in everything. Henrique and Isabel’s story is timeless.

This is a historical romance with a paranormal twist which I didn’t see coming but enjoyed. The author does an amazing job with the writing and really transports the reader back to that time period. What i like about this story is that the female character isn’t a shy girl who does as she is told as you would expect of this era, rather she is determined and knows her own mind and plays by her own rules. Vanessa thought she knew what to expect when she returned home after the death of her uncle and even though she was saddened by his loss she was excited to start the new chapter in her life. What she didn’t count on was all the complications that lingered. From a aunt and cousin still residing at the house, a guardian that sparks a fire inside her like never before, a ghost and a dangerous person committing murder there is more than enough to leave Vanessa’s head spinning. This story has it all, family drama, Paranormal elements, a sizzling chemistry and murders that need to be solved. The author’s writing was Great. I got completely lost in this story and i couldn’t put it down.
I love historical romance and when I saw this I immediately had to read this. The story was written so well and I could not put it down, I was obsessed. I have not read a book by this author and I absolutely love the writing style. I cannot wait to read more books by this author. This is a wonderful story and will be added to my reread list when I cannot find another book to read right away.

I was captivated from start to finish and I know you will be too! The wonderful storyline has so much going on and is full of lies, secrets, danger and passion just to name a few elements. I enjoyed this historical romance so much. It was a hard one to put down. Especially with the added paranormal aspect that the author added. This book was very well written throughout, hats off to the author. This was my first read from this author but I can tell it will definitely not be my last, I highly recommend.

There are other adventures that happen before he achieves his goal of heading to the Yukon. Working as a reporter who travels from place to place, he reports on the events of the day. As he travels Mark meets people that become important to him. Each person has their own reasons for going on the adventure that will lead them all to the Yukon.
