This is the type of book that really sucks you in from the first sentence and really keeps you engaged throughout. This book takes place during the San Francisco Gold Rush. This book has romance elements, however, the real plot movement is in Elena seeking revenge for the death of her little brother. She will give up anything to get her revenge. When she finds out who it is, it turns out it is someone who has always wanted to be with her. This allows her to really seek her revenge and find a plan that may actually work. She seeks him out to exact her revenge, however her plan doesn’t go as she expected and so very many twists and turns during the story. This was honestly such a fantastic historical fiction novel. It reads as a standalone but it is part of a series. I definitely will be going back to read the first well. Pamela Gibson has really written an engaging story with fantastic characters. I highly recommend it!
I was drawn into this book straight away when the action really does kick off as soon as it starts. I really enjoyed the book overall and thought that it was a great introduction to this new author! Her writing style was great, really engaging, easy to read and the characters were brilliant. I liked Joy I thought that she was a sweet, kind and relatable person. All (well majority) of the characters in the story were really sweet and relatable. I loved the setting and time period for the story – historical romance is my favourite genre so to find this book was great and added in is that bit of Christmas magic and it was a perfect book for me! I can’t wait to read more from this author again in the future.

Creeden – Review by Katie Matthews
A historical romance with mystery, adventure and twists. I enjoyed reading this book. I have not read the first two books, but I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. The story was very well written. It transports you back in time with great detail.
Vengeance has many degrees of outcomes. This is the first book I have read by Pamela Gibson and while I was intrigued by the synopsis, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I don’t usually read period books, but I had to give it a try because it sounded too interesting to miss. While this is the third book in the Mission Belles series each can be read as a standalone and I found no hindrance in not reading the previous two books. Dual perspectives of Elena and Sean. Elena has four older sisters, before her younger brother Antoine was born, she was raised as the “son” her father always wanted. She was taught to hunt and defend her home and family but at age twelve that changed, at least for a time. When her father got ill, he made her promise to look out for her brother to teach him the ways of manhood so when time he would protect his family and land as she had before him. Only when she returns from hunting, she finds Carmelo, her brother’s friend in her home, her mother devastated and told the story of how her brother was killed by an American spy. Two years later Carmelo returns after her mothers passing and informs her of the man who stole her brother’s life. Sean Mitchell, once friends with Antoine and a spy, is now a horse trainer. He has always had a special bond with animals, now free to follow his own dreams a letter changes everything. His sister Mary Catherine, now Lolita Montero hasn’t been seen in a week, her place of work wrote him telling him he should come. Without hesitation Sean leaves for San Fransico, along the way thinks of a plan to find her or better yet how to find her. Elena was enamored with Sean when younger but now she wrestles with her vow to her mother and the long thought past feelings for the man she once admired. Sean is caught off guard when the sister of his former enemy appears and offers to help find his missing sister, but things become less clear over time. Is Elena his friend or foe, or is she something more? Elena sought revenge, a life for a life was the vow she made to her mother but what will she do when the man responsible is right in front of her? Can Sean find his sister? What secrets will be revealed as they each follow their “plans”? The historic world of years long past shows another side of the gold rush. I was also drawn to this book as I was born in southern California and once sought vengeance for my murdered brother. But I digress the characters pain and determination with every “hiccup” gives power to the saying “god gives us what we need not necessarily what we want”. Elena wanted revenge but found something more, something worth living for. At the age of twenty-eight she was still unmarried and felt this mission would seal she never would be. Her final plan was to return to her family home and live out her life alone in solitude atoning for her actions. I plan to go back and read the previous books to see more into the worlds that the author brings to life on the pages and the characters that show strength beyond vengeance but of forgiveness.
The True Purpose Of Vines (The Winemakers) by Giovanna Siniscalchi- 4 out of 5 stars
This historical romance will take you back to a Victorian era setting. The attention to detail that this author wrote was amazing. You are taught so much about the whole process of making wine and port, so much so that it had me wanting to pour myself a tall glass of wine out of respect. This book has such a unique way about it. If you are into Victorian Era Mysteries than this book will intrigue you.

Who would have ever thought that Pedro could redeem himself after the last book; I would have called them crazy. But, he is redeemable! Oh my, he is so redeemable. I can’t get him out of my head. I absolutely loved learning more about his character, what motivated him, and what molded him from the person we used to know into the man he is now. I recommend this series.

This is the third book in the Winemakers series. This amazing historical series is set in the Victorian era and focuses on two main characters names Isabel and Henrique. The level of spice coming off of these two could burn your tastebuds clean off. This author truly knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat! Once you pick up this delectable gem, you will not want to put it back down until you have devoured every last page.

This is a unique and interesting historical mystery. I wasn’t sure how I would find it with the main character being an eleven year old girl and yet somehow the author makes it work. I was interested in the story and how Sparky was going to get herself out of trouble. She was a strong character and really carried the book the whole way through. This is a new author to me and I was pleased that I gave this book a go. Her writing style drew me in and definitely helped me to connect with the story. The book was well written with well developed characters. This was a great story and I will certainly see what else this series has to offer.

This was a interesting historical enemies to lovers historical romance. There are so many elements to this story which make it unique and interesting. Firstly we have our main female character, she is hell bent on revenge for the murder of her brother. She will stop at nothing until the man she blames for his murder is dead. Then we have the man himself who was an American spy turned horse trainer, now his sister is missing and he needs to find her. Was it foul play or has she disappeared for another reason. All this is going on at the time of the gold rush when strangers are coming from all over to make their fortune. Elena Santoro has grown up being the boy her father didn’t have so she is skilled in ways no ordinary lady is. When her brother is murdered she vows to not stop until his killer loses his life too. Knowing the person was Sean leaves her with mixed feelings as she had feelings for him but how can she allow herself to fall for her brothers killer. Sean’s life has moved on, he’s now a horse trainer and is hoping the gold rush will bring him more clients, things were looking up until his sister goes missing. Now he needs to find her but has she left of her own accord or was she taken against her will? Elena knows if she is to complete her objective she needs to earn Sean’s trust so she offers to help him find his sister. However the more time they spend together the more their feelings grow. Will Elena really be able to murder the man she is falling for? And as the truth of what happened to her brother finally comes to light will she find out before its too late.
An enjoyable and engaging historical romance which kept me happily turning the pages. Elena Santoro sets off for Northern California after her dying mother’s urgent plea to kill her brother’s murderer. Although Elena knows she has both the skill and training to accomplish this, she’s unsure if she actually has the nerve to kill a man who she once admired. Former spy turned horse trainer Sean Mitchell is cautious when Elena, a woman who he knows is both seductive and dangerous turns up. However, he’s confused by his sister’s disappearance and Elena is offering to help him search for her, but he’s not forgotten that her brother was once his enemy. Sean soon discovers that he has a mysterious enemy who is determined to find his sister before he does. As Sean and Elena work together to find his missing sister and elude their enemy their mutual attraction grows. Their deepening affection is worrying as the ghost of Elena’s brother will always come between them. Set amongst the chaos of the gold rush in San Francisco the author does a great job of bringing both the setting and the era vividly to life, by both the descriptive narrative and the added historical details. The intriguing storyline along with the likeable and relatable characters kept me hooked. Whilst I loved the chemistry between Elena and Sean I also liked how their relationship developed throughout the story. Although part of a series I happily read it as a standalone story, but having enjoyed it I am keen to read the previous books in this series now.

I didn’t realize that this was book 3 when I started reading it, but I will have to say that you don’t have to have read the other books to know what was going on. This book was great to be a stand-alone book, however I do not know about the other 2 books if they are able to read alone as while. this book was filled with historical events and details, that are intended into the events of the characters. This book was also filled with adventure with Elena on a quest to fulfil her mothers wish. The mystery that follows Sean with trying to find hi missing sister. It was filled with suspense and twists and turns that really kept me hooked into this book that I had to finish reading it. the character development was amazing to the fact I really felt like I know these people and were experiencing everything with them. I felt like I was right there in with the gold rush, that I really thought this could have been true for the time. This was an amazing read and if you like history mixed into a great story this is a book or series you should pick up.

Oh my goodness I could just climb into this cover and live on the land ! After reading the story between the pages I feel a little different though because it’s sad yet beautiful I know it makes no sense but so much sense at the same time 🙈🤷♀️🥰🤣
So Elena swears to her mother , on her deathbed , that she will avenge the death of her brother , a modern can not go unpunished after all and make no mistake Elena is no fading wallflower and has the know how and skills to take a man out ! The tough thing is that the man that is believed to have the bliss of her brother on his hands is someone she used to admire and hold in high regard ….
Sean was a spy but after time in prison he finds the company of horses and any animal for that matter better than the company of humans and he’s got the knack to work with horses and has earned himself quite the reputation…
I loved living through Elena and Sean and the writing style really made me feel like I was there and I regret not having read the first 2 books as well but ready assured I’m going one clicking ❣️📚
It’s the hot, end of summer days in gritty downtown Los Angeles, 1932. A cannibal with gourmet taste is on the loose. Can Sparky, an eleven-year-old former street punk and amateur girl detective, crack this crazy case?
Sparky gets no crime-solving help from former silent screen star Tootsie and her assistant Gilbert, who’s always busy cooking. Sure, Sparky’s found a home in their spooky mansion stuffed with old costumes. But Tootsie decides it will be great publicity if the press thinks she’s the cannibal.
What?
Sparky’s only help comes from a mysterious twelve-year-old boy who works at a peculiar pet shop. Wait a minute—what if he’s the cannibal?

Adding to the mystery is the pair of missing priceless jewels.
The rub? This mess might all be Sparky’s fault.

This is the first book that I have read of Pamela Gibson and although it is book 3 in the Mission Belles series I read it as a stand alone novel. In hindsight I feel that some background knowledge from the previous 2 books would have helped with knowledge of characters and character development. It took till the last 3/4 of the book before my interest was completely captured and then I found it hard to put down. Elena set out to kill Sean as revenge for her brother’s death but in the end Sean’s sweet nature and the hard truth won her heart.
I have read a lot of the Notebook Mysteries series by this AMAZING author so when I saw this new book I did not hesitate for even a single second. I knew that she always creates such fantastic and completely captivating storylines and Mark Sutherland absolutely did not disappoint in any way. The vivid imagery created puts you into those pages and situations as if you were standing right there yourself. No I am not giving any details away. you simply have to read it for yourself! There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked and I really can’t wait to follow Mark on more adventures!

This book was really good. It is the third book in the series. Elena leaves home to go after her brother’s murderer and to find the person that destroyed her family. She quickly discovers that she may have bit off more than she can chew. Sean is working as a horse trainer when his sister goes missing. Theresa two of them team up to find her before anything bad happens to her. Do they find her in time?
This is the first time reading a book by this author. I decided to read the book because it takes place during the California gold rush. I would think it was a exciting but also very dangerous time. I thought it was interesting to see Elena was heading into possible danger to fulfill her mothers wish on her death bed. What kind of danger will Elena face as she hunts down the man who killed her brother? The author does a beautiful job of world building and character building. I could connect with the characters and get a feel for what they were thinking and struggling with. Overall, I enjoyed the book and will likely be reading other books in this series very soon.
I’m torn when it comes to picking up books already in the midst of a series. Some can be considered stand alone and have such a pleasure reading. This one can get you a bit lost in the past story content but overall it was still a good read! I absolutely loved Elena! Such a strong, determined female character. Story takes place in the 1800s in the Old West of California. I really love how they embrace the Spanish language, its American immersion to the Old West atmosphere and historical places. Elena is on a quest to grant her mother’s dying wish to murder her brother’s killer. With her trained mind and skill set, there is nothing stopping her to get to the bottom of this. She ends up meeting Sean during her travels, who is a former spy and now a horse trainer. He already suspects Elena may have ulterior motives, which makes him even more intrigued by her presence. What they find along the way and rely on each other end up being a journey they will not forget.

“Sweet Vengeance” by Pamela Gibson is an engaging and gripping novel that kept me hooked from beginning to end. The author’s storytelling abilities are commendable, as she effortlessly weaves together a complex plot filled with suspense and mystery. The characters are well-developed and relatable, drawing you into their lives and making you emotionally invested in their journey. Gibson’s writing style is descriptive and vivid, painting a clear picture of the settings and immersing you in the story. The pacing is perfect, with just the right balance of action and slower moments to keep you intrigued. Overall, “Sweet Vengeance” is a thrilling and satisfying read that I would highly recommend to lovers of suspense and mystery novels.
Sweet Vengeance (Mission Belles Book 3) by Pamela Gibson. I have truly loved this series. Its a historical romance and full of all kinds of information about California in the Gold Rush era. Its the story of Elena Santoro who has promised her dying mom that she will find the person responsible for killing her brother. Elena is used to danger but seeking out and killing a man is a different story. Her siblings can’t believe she is going thru with it. Sean is an former spy turned horse trainer and he’s looking for his sister who has disappeared. When he meets Elena and she offers to help him find his sister he’s skeptical. He doesn’t trust easily and he feels something is off about Elena. Elena thinks Sean is the man who destroyed her family but as she gets to know him and has feelings for him can she go thru with the promise she made her mom on her death bed? This author did such a good job I truly felt like I was in California in the middle of the Gold Rush!
I found this book to be a unique and refreshing historical romance story that was well written and exciting to read. I loved getting to know Sean and Elena as they navigated a tense and complicated situation. Their connection was undeniable, even when they didn’t trust each other and had alternative agendas. When I started reading this book, I didn’t realise it was the third book in the series. However, it didn’t feel like I had missed anything by not reading the previous two. This author has created a strong story that really pulls you in. I am already looking forward to the next book and I will certainly be reading the previous two.

Adventure, oil, mysterious crashes, reporting, and gold were all of what Mark Sutherland’s life consisted of. He couldn’t wait for the next thing to come along. This is the third book in the Mission Belles series. My first read from this author and I was not disappointed. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and read a historical romance book. I wasn’t disappointed. P.Creeden has built a magnificent and rustic world for us to become entangled in. I am in awe of the strength and determination of Joy as she navigates the ups and downs of life after losing her grandmother. So much happens. You should absolutely read this book if you love a good story, a mail order bride plot, a historical romance, because this story has it allllll.

An entertaining historical cozy mystery with an orphaned street savvy eleven year old, Sparky as the heroine. Set during the 1930’s in the Depression-era Bunker Hill neighbourhood of downtown LA, Sparky lives by her wits. When she discovers the body of a little girl on a park bench she’s accused of the murder. On a mission to clear her name, Sparky turns amateur sleuth and meets an array of colourful characters as she tries to solve the mystery and clear her name. This is a fun and at times humorous mystery with a quirky main character, in Sparky who is likeable and relatable. The setting and the era are brought to life through the descriptive narrative, and the added historical details bring the charm of the era to life including, Hollywood, movie stars, mobsters, and murder. I look forward to being back with Sparky of Bunker Hill soon!

Sweet Vengeance is the third book in the Mission Belles Series, and is a historical romance. I usually do not read historical novels OR romance but this one had a twist of mystery and adventure that appealed to me so decided to give it a try. I was unaware this was a series, and this is the third book but fortunately it can be read as a standalone and was easy to follow. I’m sure if you read the others, it wouldn’t be a bad idea if the plot continues from the previous reads, but it is not needed. In this story, Elena is on a mission to carry out her mother’s dying wish and to find the man that ruined her family. Sean is a man that doesn’t trust easily, but maybe that will change when paths and plots become crossed. Will Elena have the heart to carry out her mother’s revenge, or will love win instead??
I did like that the story remains historically accurate for the time period (as far as I can tell, I am no history buff) and nothing seems out of the ordinary for San Francisco Gold Rush days. I also liked the revenge plot, and all of the fluctuations of emotions throughout the book. Nothing felt unrealistic and characters were angry when they should be, and tensions were high at accurate moments. Overall I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this one, and may go back and read the others in the set before this to see if it makes the story even better! Give genres a try that you usually wouldnt touch, you might like it!
This was a interesting murder mystery set in the 1930s. The author does an amazing job of researching and writing about era really bringing it to life. I loved the main character of Sparky. She strength and resilience as well as her attitude to let nothing stop her really endeared her to my heart.
Sparky hasn’t had the easiest life. She is an orphan living on the streets struggling to survive. On her birthday she decides to venture to her special place with the treats she has saved. When she arrives she finds a little girl. What she doesn’t realise at first is that the little girl is dead. In panic she raises the alarm which in turn turns her into the number 1 suspect. Not only is she the suspect of that murder but everything bad that has happened is now placed at her feet. So she is now on the run and with the help of an eccentric actress( who all the children think is scary and dangerous) and her friend from the streets Bobby they need to find out who the murderer is to clear Sparky’s name.
This is a fast paced murder mystery which i really enjoyed. The author’s writing style and descriptive writing really brought this story and characters to life.

This is book three in the Mission Belles series. I read this book before I found out there were two books before it. However, I didn’t feel like I was missing out and this novel does well as a stand alone. This book is full of history with page turning plot points the drive the story first. There is plenty of action with plenty of twists along the way. If you enjoy historical romance enemies to lovers with revenge and danger, this is a book for you.
I have really enjoyed this series and visiting new places in my books. This is the third book in the series and follows some new characters. Isabel is the princess of Portugal and loves her country. Her brother, the king, sends her off to visit her cousin and find out what is happening in Spain. Henrique is selling his land and moving out of the country, but agrees to accompany the sister of his good friend (the king) to Spain. Henrique is witty and charming and knows how to woo the ladies. Isabel has been protected and doesn’t agree with his philandering, but she sees a different man underneath the façade. In Spain, they are busy with many events planned by her cousin, but also in a lot of political meetings. The true king of Spain is invited to the palace and tries to sweep Isabel off her feet in order to get back to his rightful throne. The story kept me guessing and I learned so much about life in the 1800s.

I really enjoy this series and though this book could be read as a standalone…I would highly recommend reading this series in order. The author is fabulous and her storytelling is amazing. The romance, tension and banter between Henrique and Isabel…I loved it.
When Isabel is asked by the King to go to Spain to help out….it is her duty to do so. What is not anticipated is who is accompanying her….none other than Henrique….which at first was a bit trying. Knowing how proper and set in her ways Isabel is….will she be able to let a bit go and see another side to Henrique and will he fight for her?
Delightful and Wonderful story. I highly recommend this series.
