Hook’s Little Mermaid is a fun retelling of the story of Captain Hook. The story had many characters and elements of several children’s stories. Suzanna Lynn wove them together in a fun and unique way that made it a fresh new story. I found myself cheering for Captain Hook and loving him. I was surprised when I found myself cheering against Peter Pan. This is a whimsical and fun book to read and quite enjoyable.

This is Book #1 in “The Untold Stories” series by Suzanna Lynn. I accidentally read Book #2 first so backtracked to this one. In this tale, we learn about how Captain Jameson Shaw became Captain Hook, obsessed w/ Peter Pan and a little mermaid friend of Pan’s. As I am absolutely NOT a fan of the Peter Pan complex – in which men never want to outgrow being little boys – I have to admit that I’ve never read “Peter Pan,” and thus know very little about the actual fairy tale. However, one can enjoy this tale w/o knowing the “real” story. Shaw is obsessed w/ finding and killing Peter Pan, blaming him for kidnapping his son, a child he had only recently met. The child was apparently killed while being one of the Lost Boys. Pan is friends w/ a little mermaid, Elynna. Shaw encounters a witch in the form of a mermaid, who has her own reasons for wishing to hunt down Pan and his little friend. We meet Red Riding Hood again, when Red gives Shaw some of the ever-burning ash from the Blakx Forest to defeat the kraken at sea when he goes on his quest for Pan. But first, Shaw and his crew go to Fairyland to kidnap a fairy, as they will need fairy dust to capture Pan. Thus we meet Tinker Bell, who honestly is my favorite character in this story, as she stays mostly true to herself and her own goals, as opposed to every other character in this story! As in all fairy tales, nothing is as it seems. Shaw’s thirst for revenge makes him overlook the shady character of Zerena the mermaid witch until it is too late. Pan isn’t all selfish little boy, either. There’s lots of action and plenty of tongue-in-cheek dialogue, which is enjoyable. The action occurring when Shaw accidentally loses his hand was confusing, but it IS a fairy tale, so doesn’t have to always make sense. All in all, I just didn’t enjoy this tale as much as the one about Red Riding Hood, and am looking forward to Book #3 which is about the Beauty and the Beast. I’m looking forward to how Ms. Lynn treats that story. As long as the beautiful library is there, I’ll be fine!

This is brilliant for revisiting your childhood favourite fairy tales as an adult. This was a fresh spin on the Captain Hook/Peter Pan story and I really enjoyed it. Captain James Shaw is hell bent on revenge, blaming Peter Pan and the Lost Boys for the death of his son. Whilst plotting how to bring down his nemesis he meets a mermaid along the way who enthrals and makes him question everything he knew. The character building was brilliant and the story was so beautifully written. This is definitely a saga that I am going to continue with, looking forward to see what happens next.

This book is an imaginative retelling of the evergreen children’s classic Peter Pan. The book’s central character is Captain Shaw, whom we know as the notorious Captain Hook in Neverland. This tale is about the humane side of Captain Hook and what caused him to be the notorious man he is known to be. Captain Hook was a pirate, and was an honest pirate with his heart in the right place. He cared for his crew, and the women who came into his life, even for a brief fling. He begets a son from one such fling, is kept away from him for several years till one day, he is united with him. But his son joins the Lost Boys troop of Peter Pan and gets accidentally killed in one of the pirate encounters. This causes Hook to seek vengeance against Pan. He tries different venues to get to Pan, but is incapacitated with his inability to fly. To get near Pan, he first captures Tinkerbell for fairy dust, then befriends a beautiful witch who claims to be the sister of the Sea God Neptune, and falls in love with a mermaid who is Pan’s best friend. But in his plotting and scheming, he loses his edge and falls prey instead of being a predator. Desperately in love, and now a target to an evil power, Hook tries to hold on to the humane side and for a brief time even forgets about his vengeance with Pan for the greater good. But will his good side prevail and make him a better person? Or will the cruel fate take away what he is holding dear to heart and make him an evil heartless villain? That forms the crux of this story. The language is beautiful and the book is a very easy read. But I did have some qualms on the plot. I felt it a little convoluted at few places. But I really enjoyed this imaginative retake on one of my childhood classics.

Hook’s Little Mermaid (The Untold Stories #1) by Suzanna Lynn
This is the first book I’ve read by Lynn. It won’t be my last. The Untold Stories Series is a Fairytale retelling of Captain Hook and Little Mermaid. Can be read as a stand alone.
Captain James Hook is looking to revenge the death of his son. Tinker Bell becomes his fairy friend while Red becomes his wolf buddy. Peter needs to taken care of, but will a mermaid change his mind. The quote I chose for James is: “I don’t need to trust them. I just need the dust. I believe any fairy would happily exchange some dust for its freedom.”
Elynna is a mermaid in Neverland. When she meets James she soon learns that he wants to do something horrible. When she learns the story she decides that she’s going to take into her own hands. The quote I chose for Elynna: “This is not the way to honor Owen. Be the man he was proud of.”

This is my first book by Suzanna Lynn. I loved this rendition of Captain Hook and Peter Pan. It was well thought out and clever. You have all the cast you’re used to in the story of Peter Pan, however this gives Captain Hook some background and some footing to be evil really lol. I know that sounds weird but I’m now a Hook fan *Tinkerbell will always be my first love!* I can’t wait for book two! Absolute wonderful read.

We know the fairytales by heart, had great fun guessing which character we felt best represented us but what do we really know of these tales? In Suzanna Lynn’s “Hook’s Little Mermaid” these tales of wonder become alive once again but who is the villain and who is the hero? This page turner had me “hooked” from the start. The depth the characters hold was amazing to read and just when you thought you knew the plot a whole new twist kept you glued to this fictional drama until the very end. I loved this book and can’t wait to read the what happens next.

If you love twisted tales about beloved characters like Peter Pan and Captain Hook, Little Red Riding Hood and the Big bad Wolf then you will love Suzanna Lynn’s “Hook’s Little Mermaid”. This tale is a definite page-turner that I promise you won’t want to put down. I know I didn’t. Mrs. Lynn gives you a great back story on Jameson Shaw (Captain Hook ) in a great spinoff of a classic fairy tale. Her attention to detail and character description is phenomenal and leads the reader down a trail of great imagination. While this twisted tale has a darker concept, it is a fantastic read and I would recommend to any reader that loves fantasy.

Captain James Hook wasn’t always a pirate and he didn’t always have a hook, he started off as a humble fisherman, but when it didn’t bring in any wealth, he decided to rename his ship the Jolly Roger and hoist the black and white flag of a pirate, but he was an honest pirate at least and did give back to the poor on occasion, however, that all changed when he went on a quest to kill Peter Pan to avenge the death of a loved one.
This journey was not as easy as he first thought, but he had made a start by knowing he had to go to Neverland to find him, so he pulled into one of his well frequented ports and went to visit an old friend to get some information on how to trap a fairy and once he had acquired that fairy called Tinkerbell and hashes out a deal, he stopped in an another port of call for supplies. While acquiring the means to cross the seas to Neverland, the Captain befriends a young woman named Red by the locals when he comes to her aid in a marketplace, in return he receives some valuable gifts and information, as well as a new acquaintance, or maybe even a friend.
As he nears Neverland and his nemesis, Captain Hook comes across a deadly sea creature and hopes his acquisitions will allow him to sail swiftly from it’s clutches and when he arrives, he sees Peter Pan and puts his plan into action, however, he is foiled by the wily fairy and doesn’t attain his goal. Meanwhile, he just can’t resist helping a damsel in distress, or becoming in distress himself and between storms, mermaids, magic and Lost Boys, this adventure is turning out to be one of many twists and turns, but can he resist the pull of vengeance, or will his one of his rescued damsels convince him to turn from that path? This is a story for all ages as this retelling steers you through dangerous waters and leads you to a destination you can only reach by reading through to the end.

I was absolutely enthralled by this. I was a little worried as Peter Pan is one of my favourite stories from my childhood – the whole no-growing-up thing is something that I still live by – but this was just fantastic and there was honestly no way that I wasn’t falling in love with it. Lynn takes Hook from being an out and out villain to a sympathetic character, who despite years of being programmed to hate the pirate, found myself rooting for him. I loved the way that Lynn took elements that everyone knows and loves from the classic tale and puts her own spin on it that makes something more magical than the original. I know, I can’t believe it myself and honestly, I feel like it’s sacrilege to even say it, but I don’t think I can go back to the original Peter Pan now without being forever changed by this book. This is a fun read, that also has a depth to it that was wonderful to explore, anyone looking for a new and refreshing take on a beloved tale, this is perfect. I adored every second of it and cannot wait to read the next tale.

Hook’s Little Mermaidis the first instalment in The Untold Stories series by Suzanna Lynn. This is a wonderful young adult fantasy and is a mash-up of several classic fairytales, giving us a different perspective on a story(stories) we all know so well. With Captain Hook, Peter Pan, The Lost Boys, Tinkerbell, Mermaids, Red Riding Hood, drama, magic, revenge, history….. and so much more, everything comes together into a truly captivating story. I really enjoyed this clever mash-up- as Peter Pan has always been a favourite of mine. This had an extra element of interest for me though, because we get Hook’s perspective of things- giving us the backstory and motivation behind Hook’s vendetta on Pan. So, if you like clever and well-woven retellings of classic fairytales, are intrigued by Captain Hook and how he came to be like he is- then this is definitely a book you won’t want to miss. Happy Reading!

Hook’s Little Mermaid (Book One of The Untold Series) by Suzanna Lynn was a great read! I was captured from the beginning. This was a twisted take and tale of a classic fairytale story. Once I started reading this story I didn’t even want to put it down! Kudos to this author on an amazing story. I can’t wait to dive into the next installment!

Hook’s Little Mermaid: Captain Hook by Suzanna Lynn is a wonderful book about the background of how Captain Hook came to detest Peter Pan so much. I like that the author created such a detailed backstory. It makes the Peter Pan & Captain Hook story more interesting. Wonderful job keeping the fairytale and adding the background. There’s always two sides to a story and in this case we have a new perspective on Captain Hook. Doesn’t it make it much more interesting? I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Hooks Little Mermaid: Captain Hook crosses paths with an enchanting mermaid, as he seeks revenge against Peter Pan by Suzanna Lynn is the first book in the Untold Stories series. This is a unique retelling of a well known story and the author has done a good job of taking the story and creating something new. The author manages to create a vivid picture of everything going on so it really felt like you were there. It would have been nice to see a little more of the dark Captain Hook that you are use to but it was good to see him in a whole new perspective. This was a front start to a new series and I am looking forward to reading the next.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read the rest of the series! This was an enchanting spin on the origin story of Captain Hook. Add Red Riding Hood and the Little Mermaid and you have an adventure full of surprises. Hook was not always the despicable pirate he has been made out to be. Setting out to destroy Peter Pan, Hook becomes entangled in a plot to overthrow Atlantis when he saves a mermaid princess.
This book was a very quick read, meaning I couldn’t put it down! I cannot wait to get the second book in The Untold Stories series. This is definitely a series I want to share with my granddaughter.

And now I’m torn as to whether I should immediately reread this book or devour the next in the series. Maybe both!!!!!

Did you ever wonder what happened to Captain Hook before his encounter with Peter Pan? I know I used to make up stories with my friends about the pirate who is always going after Peter Pan. In this book we read Suzanna Lynn’s version, and I have to admit her story is a lot better than mine. Her plot-line takes the reader back and develops the story behind the pirate. We see the usual character names but with slight differences than what we are used to. I highly recommend this book to see what Hook was like before he was Captain Hook obsessed with Peter Pan.

I had not read a book by this author prior to reading this book. I have always loved the stories of Peter Pan & The Little Mermaid, so I was intrigued by the title of this. I was surprised to realize that this is a new twist on Captain Hook and his story. And I LOVED IT! I truly had a new outlook on the villain of Peter Pan and could really start to sympathize and understand why Hook was as evil as he was. I was very impressed with this book and found it to be a very fast read. In fact, I read the entire book in less than 24 hours because I was reading it so quickly. I was quite shocked with the writing and the characters. I was expecting the Captain Hook I have grown used to but was surprised to find out that wasn’t the case at all. I believe that this story is geared towards young adult readers but thought that the author did a fabulous job immersing me into their world. The characters resonated with me and I was able to visually see and feel the images around me. I can honestly say that I felt as though I were an actress in this movie. I didn’t want it to end. If you are a fan of Disney then I believe that you will love this book. I am excited to read the next installment in Lynn’s series.

Hook’s Little Mermaid (The Untold Stories BOOK 1) by Suzanna Lynn was full of fiction and adventure. It is a retelling of Captain Hook and his chase of Peter Pan from his point of view.
Captain James Hook used to be a decent guy struggling to make a decent living; he is a pirate. Hook makes it his sole mission to track down and kill the fiend after learning that a boy named Peter Pan played a part in the death of a dear loved one. The captain meets several new allies on his quest for revenge, including a young girl named Red and a fairy named Tinker Bell, all of whom encourage him to rethink his thirst for justice. He goes on a whirlwind journey in Neverland after accidentally rescuing a mermaid. Hook must choose between the chance of a new life with love and his much-desired revenge against Pan after a series of misadventures.
This was a lovely retelling, and I loved every page of it. This is book one, and I would love to read more of this collection.

Hook’s Little Mermaid: The Untold Stories By Suzanna Lynn
This is the untold story about Captain Hook and how he got the name Captain Hook and why he doesn’t like Peter Pan. For fans of Peter Pan and Captain Hook this is a must read. I love books that fill in the blanks, it gives us another way to look at the history between the two characters. At first his name is James Shaw but during the story he changes his name to Captain Hook, this story explains why this happens and why he sets out to find Pan. This is a very good story. I encourage everyone to read this.

What a fun read!! She definitely keeps you guessing as to what will happen next as you read! Truly, didn’t want to put it down, and only did because I had to sleep!
I was surprised by the author’s reason for Captain Hook’s intense dislike for Peter Pan. It humanized him to the point that you couldn’t help but see Hook in a different light because of his misadventures in the book. I appreciated that she didn’t paint him as the villain that most people associate him with when they hear the name Captain Hook.
Because she also intermingled some other tale’s characters throughout this book, it’s hard to not feel that they are a foreshadowing of what is to come in this series! Can’t wait to read what comes next!

Hook’s Little Mermaid: Captain Hook crosses paths with an enchanting mermaid, as he seeks revenge against Peter Pan. (The Untold Stories Book 1) by Suzanna Lynn is a YA fantasy and her take on a historically loved characters and their adventures. Fantasy meets fairy tale as we have a brand new look and feel for the Captain and how he came to be Hook. I loved the original and unique twist Suzanna put on these stories to give us a read that is riveting and enjoyable. Neverland will never look the same again. The ending is not one you expect. I will let you discover the intricacies that Suzanna has seamlessly woven together.

I enjoyed this young adult version of Peter Pan. This would be a great story that any young adult would enjoy reading. This is a story that will take you on an adventure with pirates, revenge, and even some romance. This is a well developed story that brings a world of fantasy with magic to life. The characters are creative which made the story fun and entertaining to read. Where will this adventure take Pan and the rest of the characters and what will happen with the choices they will have to make? I highly recommend this book.

Captain James Hook was once a good man trying to make a somewhat honest living. He is a pirate, after all. However, after getting word that a boy named Peter Pan played a part in the death of a dear loved one, Hook makes it his sole purpose to hunt down and destroy the fiend.
On his journey for vengeance, the captain encounters many new comrades, including a young girl named Red and a fairy called Tinker Bell, and both push him to reconsider his desire for justice.
The accidental rescue of a mermaid leads him on a whirlwind adventure in Neverland. The journey is not a simple one, considering Pan, the Lost Boys, mermaids, and magic all come into play. After several misadventures, Hook must choose between the possibility of a new life with love and his much-desired retaliation against Pan.
Once everything is said and done, will the captain be able to overcome his need for revenge? Will he let compassion steer him toward love? Or will Captain Hook live up to his villainous reputation?
Author Suzanna Lynn is a happily married, full-time mother of three beautiful, energetic children, and lives in a small town nestled in the deep rolling hills of Missouri.
Growing up in the Ozarks, Suzanna spent her childhood wandering the fields and woods surrounding her home. While most children avoided the dark corners of the woods, she sought them out; imagining them to be filled with fairies, dragons and all number of creatures.
Having not lost her childhood imagination, Suzanna has written numerous poems, songs and short stories that won various awards in high school and college. Her dream was to, one day, be an author.
In 2014 she decided to stop wishing she could publish a book and made the dream a reality when she released The Bed Wife.
That first novella gave birth to two more books, completing the series, and stirred the embers of a new five-book series called The Untold Stories. She has since published stand alone novels, and even has several children’s books in the works.
When she’s not busy writing or spending time with her family, Suzanna loves to draw and paint, as well as scrapbooking. She also has been known to volunteer with her children’s school, the Ladies Auxiliary, and even the local zoo!
