If I had a Magic Wand by Melissa Lavi was the cutest story! I read it to my two year old and while she may not have understood it, she engaged with the pictures and said words after me. I loved the message and how the wand was passed to each adult. It was a sweet story about what we as parents or caretakers want for our babies. The fact that each picture was so diverse and shows how connected we are as parents and how our babies are our magic. This will be a beautiful story to read again and again to my kids!

  • This is a beautifully illustrated children’s book that includes people of diverse skin tones to provide characters that are animating a wonderful nursery rhyme. This would make a great gift for a new parent or a child who is just learning to read. I have already read this book several times since it is a short book. I really enjoy that this book is still charming despite its size.

I loved this book. I recommend this book for all parents. It was a great short read. Sweet story of what we wish we could give our children all the time and not have to worry about it. Just know that their own magic lies within them, is something pretty magical on its own.

I found If I Had a Magic Wand to be a very cute story. My 6 year old didn’t love it. He sat through it but said they should do cooler stuff with a magic wand. Even after I explained the book, he still didn’t seem too interested. The rhyming was good and made the story flow. I love love the illustrations. I love the parents passing the wand, to what I interpreted as other parents as well as their kids. I love that different nationalities and genders and ages were represented throughout the story.

If I Had a Magic Wand by Melissa Lavi is a 5 star children’s book. My mother bought my children a book a couple years ago titled something like, If I Could Keep You Little and this book, while different, had a similar comforting feel to it. My mother recently passed so I cherish this book’s similarities a lot. If I Had a Magic wand really illustrates what any parent, or adult in general, wants for a child in their life… love, happiness, kindness, the list goes on. The illustrations in this book are as beautiful as the well wishes too. A great addition to any bedtime story shelf!

This is a beautifully written and illustrated story. The story is what a parent/caregiver would wish for their baby – from filling the heart with love, beauty and kindness, to faith and courage, to peace and love and protection. All of the things a new parent wants for their baby. But – in the end, there is no need for magic- because the magic is the new baby and all that it brings into the world. The illustrations in this book are gorgeous and diverse – representing mothers/fathers/caregivers from all over the world and the joy that a new baby brings into their lives.
This is a great bedtime story – one that will bring sweet dreams.

Wow! I love this so much! It would be a perfect story for either bedtime or just a snuggle time story. Even new parents would enjoy this beautifully rhymed book!

I throughly enjoy little stories like this to read to my grandchild. They are quick, thoughtful and the way the wand is passed around is perfectly done. The pictures accompanied by the lovely words make this one a keeper.

Words have escaped me when it comes to this book! I love the underlying message of the book, that everyone has magic inside of them, but not the kind of magic one would think! This is such an important book to read to little ones, it will instill self confidence in them from an early age. The illustrations were also beautifully done, and I loved how they were inclusive of many different ethnicities and cultural groups in them. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has children!

This collection of of wishes for our babies/ children was so sweet. It was well thought out and well executed and fit the bill for a wide variety of us! I shared this book with my daughter in law with our precious new new grand baby and we both cried and felt all the feels! Well done!

The art work is beautiful, the words are beautiful, I loved everything about this book. I think it is every parents wish to be able to sprinkle some sort of fairy dust on their kids to protect them, teach them and give them all they would need. My favorite part of this book is how after each page, the wand is then passed to a different mother or father, and they are from all different races, countries and backgrounds. The love for your own child extends across the world.

This was such an adorable and sweet story. It made me quite emotional reading it as a parent because these are some I things I would wish for my little boy. I read it to my 3 year old at bedtime and thought what a beautiful bedtime story it made for young children. Also I thought it would make a beautiful gift for new parents to read to their new bundle of joy. The illustrations were also lovely as well.

Beautiful! BEAUTIFUL! B-E-A-UUUUUUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!
This book hits me right in the mommy heart! I love how it pretty much says it all with hopes of how we all want our babies to be!

I also love the illustrations throughout the book! It shows us that even though parenting can be different standpoints we all want the absolute best for our babies. It doesn’t matter if you are black, white, purple, green, or even pink. It doesn’t matter if you are a single dad, single mom, or the Brady bunch. Wanting your child to be kind is the same from us all.

I would 1000000% give this book a 100 stars. 5 is just not enough!
I read this digital on my kindle, but I am going right now to order it in a hard copy so I can read it over and over to my babies!

If I Had a Magic Wand by Melissa Lavi is a sweet, illustrated children’s storybook that can be enjoyed by both young and old… It is written is a poetic, lyrical style- which certainly adds to the whole feel of this sweet, heart-warming book.
This is a story of a mother’s wish for her baby/children- passing the wishing wand from mother to mother as they each make wishes for their little ones. The messages are touching, tender, sweet, poignant, and inspirational. As I mother, I can really relate to all of the wishes and definitely wish the same for my children and grandchildren, also.
A lovely story to read your child at bedtime, leaving them with meaningful messages of love, hope, family, and unity as they nod off to sleep….

If I Had a Magic Wand was such a sweet and sentimental story for babies and kids of all ages. It perfectly puts into words the wishes parents have for their children. The story is whimsical and heartwarming. The illustrations are simple while being incredibly diverse to help relay the story.
My own kids loved the rhyming, easy-flowing story and the magical pictures. This is the perfect baby shower or book shower gift!

This was a cute, uplifting kids book. It definitely wasn’t just a book for kids, as a mom I find it very endearing. Moms (and Dads) are hard-working, love unconditionally, and only want the very best for their children. However, as parents we learn quickly that we are not perfect, we can’t fix everything, and our children will hurt, cry, etc. Oohh, but we all wish we had a magic wand to make sure our little ones never have to deal with the struggles of life! If we did, we would use it all the time. This story reminded me that we are not perfect, but that we strive for that perfection for our children. In addition, from the child’s point of view, the story also lets them in on the secret that while we may not always succeed in the perfection journey, we do try very hard!!
