True Bastard (Dark Sparrow #4)True Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

True Bastard is the 4th book in the Dark Sparrow series. Our favorite Chicago cop, Liam Harker, is checking out the financials on dear old dad to find anything to finally bring him down. Novice nun Sister Catriona Walsh is a genius with numbers and has been enlisted to help Liam. Liam fights so hard to respect Catriona’s vows but she doesn’t make it easy on him. These books just keep getting better. I love the world created and the action that flies off the page.

Dark Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #5)Dark Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dark Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells is the fifth book in the series. This story follows Sam and Ellie. Both of them are going through a really rough time in life but can they help each other see the light? This book is about the depths of the human soul and how some handle it. There are some sensitive sections of sexual abuse and suicide. I believe the author handles them well and uses them to develop the characters. I liked the characters and it was interesting to finally get to more of Sam in this book. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and reading more from this author in the future.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Isabel Osborne is a woman entrepreneur extraordinaire, she runs her own PR crisis management business and it is a tight ship, but she is always busy and that doesn’t leave much time for anything else and Kai Jones is a blast from the past she would rather not ever see again, not for a bad reason, but because of the past she escaped from after he knew her. Kai is a former Delta Force operative who has seen and done his fair share of bad things, but nothing affected him more than the one who got away, but when he comes face to face with her again, it is the last thing in the world that he wants.

As Isabel listens to the outline of what they want from her, mainly her knowledge and connections within the Chicago movers and shakers, to keep an eye one in particular, what they didn’t expect was for them to meet so quickly, as the man in question had already made an appointment to meet with her about working with him, this is an opportunity nobody can pass up, so they make the necessary arrangements and put them into place more quickly than she could have veer imagined.

When she comes face to face with the man in question, she realises that appearances can be quite deceiving, but she is determined to see it through to the end and so states that she will be in touch through her lawyers once they have looked through the contract and given their opinion. Meanwhile, Kai is trying to get to grips with his feelings for Isabel since she crashed back into his life, but he is struggling to keep a lid on them and cannot resist her, just like the time they spent together in the past, but they are both so different now that it may be an obstacle.

As Zoe is drawn into working more closely with the man they want to being down, attacks begin and other unsavoury things start to happen, so when Kai ends up being her appointed bodyguard, they struggle with the feelings it digs up as well as the questionable motives and moves her new partner is trying to pull on her makes everyone uneasy. Will they be able to dog out the information they need to being him down, or will their digging just lead them further into the rabbit hole? Can they all stay safe and protect each other as the stakes rise and the danger increases, or will they becomes the next victims of the plot? This is another romantic suspense which will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout as you read along the path they all travel to get to the conclusion of the story.

Wild Bastard, the third novel in the Dark Sparrow series, is gripping! Kai Jones, the laid back one in the crazy Hawaiian shirts, gets a blast from the past when Isabel Osborne walks back into his life. Isabel is a force all her own with a past she would rather keep to herself. I simply loved this story. Kia and Isabel are like magnets, it only takes a flip to repel or attract. I am so happy I have another book to read in this series!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cold Bastard is the 2nd book in the Dark Sparrow series. India Kells has created a dark dangerous world of bastards. They are all so different yet all similar. Archer Blackwood doesn’t know about his father or brothers, but he’s about to. Zoe has a debt to repay, but Archer may be more than she bargained for. I love Zoe. It is not often the heroine is a curvy girl with fire inside.

Cold Bastard (Dark Sparrow #2)Cold Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Zoe Somersby is an intelligent woman with a talent for languages and cracking codes, but she has a wicked sense of humour and a love for superheroes too and this is what makes her a dark sparrow, her past life of cracking codes, even when it was the last thing she wanted to do. Archer Blackwood is a British billionaire who is a cold and ruthless businessman who runs a tight ship and has no time for idiots or time wasters, so when Zoe is asked to go undercover into his business to watch over and protect him, she has no idea what she is getting herself into.

Zoe Somersby is starting another day working in Washington DC when a surprise meeting is called with a name from her past, instead of it being their usual weekly meeting, so when she sees the name, she is more than excited at the prospect of seeing her friend again. As she listens to the task she is being set and why, she is even more determined to see it through, apart from having to be stuck in an office again, which is the current bane of her existence, but with her skills and experience, she knows she will do a blinding job.

When Monday morning arrives and Zoe is about to have the interview for her new position, she warms to the woman completing it immediately, however, when Archer Blackwood himself enters the room, Zoe is speechless, but whatever she manages to say gets her the job and the day swiftly gets underway. As the days pass and Zoe is settling into her routine, she cannot deny that Archer is a temptation she is trying her best to resist, but between the work and the long hours in her office translating and drafting, she is exhausted, but every day, something seems to happen to her to annoy her boss even more, he has to deal with some of the consequences.

It is on the third day when the office is attacked and Zoe completely ignores Archers commands and goes out to protect the others working in the office, this is when the attraction between them nearly ignites, until they are interrupted, but later when Archer check in on her at home, things get a little heated and this makes things even more complicated than before, especially when Zoe becomes embroiled in a plot she can’t escape from. Will Zoe be able to protect all those around her while still keeping her sanity and stay alive, or will the players in this twisted game play it better? This a suspenseful romance with twists and turns throughout which lead you down a path you will not want to step off of until you have reached the final destination of the end of the book.

Dark Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel
By India Kells

This book had me hooked right from the start as does every book I have read by this author. I became so invested I read it in one sitting. This book can be read as a standalone but it is my suggestion that you read these books in order for a better backstory and understanding of Sam’s and his brothers history. This book does contain triggers for some people. Both Sam and Ellie are at the end of their rope, they can’t take anymore mentally or emotionally, they are ready to give up on life. A wrong number changes everything for these two. Sam recognizes the same darkness that’s pulling him under in Ellie’s voice and he feels a very strong need to save her. Ellie has been kidnapped by Sam’s psychopath father and Sam will do whatever it takes to save Ellie and Ellie feels the same way about saving Sam from his father especially after learning of the horrific things his father did to him. This story is full of action, drama, romance, family, healing and more. This is a must read, I highly recommend this book. I can’t wait to read the next one in this series.

Lost Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #1)Lost Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Deva Landry is a woman with a dark past, she ran away from it and barely survived, but she had some help, in return for a favour which could be called upon any time and now the person who helped her has come calling, but it isn’t all as straight forward as it seems. Aleksei Voronov is a man covered in tattoos who is an MMA fighter with a dark past as well, but he is the one that Deva is sent to watch over, much to her annoyance.

Deva has found a place in a rehab centre for veterans as a physiotherapist and is finally feeling settled when out of the blue an old friend comes calling and asking to call in a favour, she wants her to use her skills as a physiotherapist and knowledge gained from her days as an MC Princess in Chicago to move back there to where it all started and try to observe and protect a man. As they discuss the mission and she meets the man in charge who explains the situation and as soon as she agrees to help, she is put up in an apartment in the north side of Chicago. Her neighbours are lovely, albeit an odd couple and very eccentric but whom endear themselves to Deva pretty quickly and a couple of days of settling in later, she heads over to the gym she will be working in as the new physiotherapist with a mission to keep the MMA fighters who train there fit and ready to fight. However, when she arrives there on her first day, she is surprised to see that the gym is filled with who normally wouldn’t be seen dead around each other, but when she eyeballs the one she is looking for, she is taken aback and that reaction is not normal for her in the slightest.

As Deva becomes part of the furniture at the Gym, she hasn’t officially run into Aleksei and she is worried that she won’t be able to fulfil her mission or her promise, that is until one night when he sneaks into the gym after hours asking for a treatment, but when things get heated between them while Deva is treating him, things get a little spicy, but once Deva cottons on to what is happening, she stops what she is doing and leaves, it is when she realises that it isn’t the kind of treatment he was after. The next day the gym owner is not himself and when she asks what is wrong, it turns out that Aleksei was injured in a fight and needs to get better for his next one in a few days and he asks Deva if she knows anyone who can help, thankfully she does and her mission truly starts when she ends up staying at his apartment to treat him.

This triggers more than a professional relationship when neither of them can deny the burning attraction between them and as they get to know each other more, things get complicated and Deva and Aleksei are thrown together on a mission to protect more than just each other. Will Deva be able to keep her past and present separate, or will it come back to haunt her again? This is a romantic suspense with more action than you can throw a stick at which will dig in its claws and keep you reading until the end.

Dark Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #5) by India Kells

5out of 5 stars

Dark bastard is the fifth book in the Dark Sparrow series written by India Kells. I have read almost every book in this series and this author and she has me intrigued with this storyline/plot of this book/series. The characters are well written and I loved the way they played off each other with their quirkiness. This is a dark suspenseful with some action and romance thrown together.

Sam Sarkhan is a soldier, he knows the job is not finished; his father is still a threat to his bastard brothers and loved ones, but Sam’s strength has vanished. That is until he dialed a wrong number and connected with a soft female voice, as sad and lonely as he was.
Just when Sam gets ready to approach Ellie to drag her back from the edge his worst nightmare resurfaced and in order to save Ellie, he has to face his father. Will Sam save Ellie or will she save herself? Can they defeat his father this time? Will Sam and Ellie open their hearts to love or will they walk away from each other?

You will have to read this story to find out….

Kells knocks this one out of the park. Dark Bastard is a book about who saves who. When two people come together because they each need something the other one has to offer but doesnt know they need. Sam has a very dark past when it comes to his father and Ellie has her own demons. They get stuck when Sams father ends up taking them and forcing them into roles they dont really want. The bond and growth Sam and Ellie go through is great. I enjoy Kells writing style and she keeps you turning the pages.

Dark Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #5)Dark Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dark Bastard is the 5th book in the amazing Dark Sparrow series by India Kells. I have become a huge fan of India Kells over the last few years and the Dark Sparrow series is one of my favourite books series’.
Since I read the 4th book in the series and got a little tidbit of what was coming in Dark Bastard I could not wait to read Sam’s story. I just knew it was going to be deep and dark and amazing. I’m so glad to say that I was right (India Kells does not disappoint). Sam’s story makes for some very hard reading as both he and Ellie, the female lead, are both in a very bad place mentally but India Kells does the most amazing job and you are totally sucked into their story and taken on an amazing rollercoaster journey as they continue with the job of bringing down Sam’s evil father (father to all the ‘bastards’ in the series) and trying to keep themselves alive at the same time.
I absolutely loved Dark Bastard, not only for the amazing characters that Sam and Ellie are but the incredible storywriting ability that India Kells has.
We not only have one of the Bastard brothers left and I’m sure Oz’s story will be just as amazing as the 5 before. I can’t wait to see what India Kells has in store for Oz.

This book was even sexier and darker than the last one. Anyone not reading this series is missing out. On to the next! 💖

Archer and Zoe are very much a one of a kind couple! The chemistry and the passion will bring out the heat fast! Zoe is an intelligent, independent, and sexy heroine who is as fierce as her red hair! She is sent undercover as a translator to help Archer Blackwood, and uncover any possible enemies or threats lurking. Archer himself is a man who is intensely cold and ruthless with enough money to put anyone to shame. These 2 together navigate a path leading to danger, deception, and many hidden secrets that neither expect.
This book was well written and was packed with suspense, adventure, steamy romance, and playful witty banter. Its #2 in a series, and is one that doesn’t disappoint.

Five Stars

Dark Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel is the fifth book in the Bastard series by India Kells. These books keep getting better and better. Each brother’s story is a tale that needs to be told. Sam is in a dark place and when he accidentally calls the wrong number, Ellie gives him something to live for. As always it is great to see glimpses of the other brothers. I’m waiting with bated breath for November and the final book in this series……maybe……well a girl can hope maybe Ms. Kells will find a lost unknown brother out there. If you haven’t read any books in this series, I highly recommend you read them in order. You really don’t have to because each book features a new couple, but you would miss a bunch of the back story if you skipped any books. Besides they are all Five Star books.

Cold Bastard (Dark Sparrow #2)Cold Bastard by India Kells

This is the second book in the Dark Sparrow series, but the first I have read by this author. India Kells spins an amazing story that draws you in from the beginning. This is the story of Zoe and Archer. Zoe has an amazing ability with languages and can pick them up without formal study. Archer is a businessman who is selling part of his business and needs assistance with some language barriers to make sure he is getting the best deal for him.
What Archer doesn’t know is that Zoe is put in his path to help save him from a possible disastrous ending. Archer is very cold, and Zoe is a not part of his plan, but can they find love together with the danger that surrounds him?
I love how Zoe is such a strong, independent, smart woman. She doesn’t run from danger. She wants to be an equal not to be saved. I am looking forward to the next installment!!

This is the third installment in the Dark Sparrow series and India Kells did not fail to deliver another incredible story! This is the story of Kai and Isabel. Kai and Isabel met years ago in Hawaii, fell in love, and Isabel just disappeared. Isabel is thrown back into Kai’s life as him and his bastard brothers are determined to take down his father. Isabel is a strong self-made woman but is terrified of Kai finding out all the secrets from her past. Their connection is still as strong as it was years ago in Hawaii, but can they survive the fight against Kai’s father? Can they survive each other finding out about their pasts?
This author does a fantastic job drawing us into the story. Even though Kai and Isabel are the main focus, all the brothers make an appearance, yet the story is very balanced. I am ready for the next book!

The brothers feel that to take out their father, they need to stop the money. Catriona was asked by a mutual friend to help the family out. She is willing to risk her life to help them, Liam doesn’t want her to endanger her safety to do so.
I love that these books are so interwoven and full of intrigue. There are so many twists and turns that are unexpected. Can Liam and Catriona also find love? The fifth installment of the Dark Sparrow series did not disappoint. I am in love with these bastard brothers. This is Sam and Ellie’s story. Sam was a soldier, trained for danger. Ellie is a 911 operator. They had both made individual decisions to end their lives when Sam makes a call to Ellie by mistake. Hearing the sadness in her voice, he has to find out who she is and how to help her. Finding a way to be close to her also puts her in the most danger she has ever been in.
Sam and Ellie both end up in the clutches of Sam’s disgusting father. Finding that they both come from childhoods that are far from even nice, can that bond them together to fight their way out of the situation they find themselves in?
India Kells has a wonderful way with words that draws you in and keeps you intrigued to the last page. The epilogue for one book, is the prologue for the next, leaving you hungering for you next bastard brother fix. The women are strong, independent, and are not damsels in distress. Not only can they help save themselves; they kick ass doing it. Am absolutely in love with this author. Thank you, India Kells!

With Fletcher as a father- who needs enemies? Cold Bastard is an original tale woven in intrigue, peppered with complex characters, and sprinkled in mystery and suspense.

This is the first book I’ve read from India, and I was not disappointed with her ability to capture and retain my interest. Zoe represents a resilient heroine who is sexy, smart, and sassy. Archer, the tycoon, suffering from past demons, has an icebox for a heart. When their worlds collide, their chemistry is instant and explosive. Archer helps Zoe get over her insecurities concerning her body and Zoe obliterates the ice in Archer’s heart.

I had fun reading this novel- if you require a much-needed escape from reality- grab a copy of Cold Bastard- I promise you won’t be disappointed.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I welcomed the perspective that India chose to tell this story. The ‘perfect life’ façade is usually a typical portrayal of characters. I appreciated that India decided to colour out the lines.

She highlighted the emotional burden that stems from trying to saying everyone (Ellie) and dealing with unresolved childhood trauma (Sam). It was important that the characters were allowed to work through this and overcame their feelings of depression. They healed in their way and on their own time. They rediscovered reasons for living.

I became fond of the characters, and I am contented that they got their happy ending. This novel will have you crying, upset and on the edge of your seat; do not just take my word for it, grab yourself a copy today.

I have read so many 5 star books lately & of course this one is too. We follow 911 dispatcher Ellie and Sam as they both coincidentally meet on the hardest night of the year for both of them. But, in the end is Ellie’s life worth the risk for Sam’s love? With a huge target on Sam’s back we’re left hanging and when it becomes a life or death situation, they need each other to get out of it. This book had numerous twists, turns, steamy scenes and at the end of the day just makes you want to fall in love. But at the same time. The cliffhanger at the end?!?🤯 I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series!

Dark Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells

Dark is the perfect description for Sam.   His history with his “father” is something worse that I imagined it to be.  I knew Finch was the scum of the earth but he has proven that title is too kind.

Sam manages to try and climb out of the darkness only after a misdialed call and fate has something else in mind for him.

Ellie is something else,  she wants to help everyone and seems to have taken it upon herself to save them even if they don’t want to be saved and it’s taken it’s toll on her.   Her need to save may be just what Sam needs.

I have throughly enjoyed these books, especially the amazing relationships the brothers have with one another.   Though not raised together they have an incredibly tight bond which leaves no doubt on who has their backs.

I’m so excited to read Oz’s story but sad that this series is probably coming to an end.

I really loved the story line and how we got to see a glimpse into their thoughts. I haven’t read a story with those triggers before but I am glad I read this one because it just shows that not every love story has that perfect narrative but can still end up as a happily ever after. Even though we don’t necessarily get that HEA at the end, I’m guessing it will come. I’ll definitely need to read the books that came before this one as well to get to know the characters a little better!

I am almost half way through the book and I am so angry at Finch. I wanted to throw my kindle across the room. I didn’t because I really need to know how this is going to turn out and well it’s my kindle. Ellie is a 911 operator and has nothing to do with this crazy world of treachery. She is on the brink of ending the non stop pain she is in emotionally when Sam calls her by mistake. One phone call may save them both or plunge them both into the beginning of a nightmare. Sam’s past comes to light in this novel and this man has suffered the obscene cruelties of life at the hands of his father. This was the first book in which a dark sparrow is not used. Gabrielle is not heard from at all. What is happening at that end? No one knows.

I love that this series is not based solely on romance, but that there is action and drama. It sucks to see the brothers all still fighting their father, he is seriously deranged! My heart broke in the beginning to learn how Ellie and Sam were both feeling about life, but seriously awesome twist that Sam happens to call Ellie’s phone instead of his brothers and a bond forms between them. I liked watching Sam and Ellie dealing with and surviving in Jamison’s home and being basically held prisoner. The bond between the brothers, even though they haven’t known each other long is beautiful. Watching Ellie and Sam fight their inner demons and come together is sweet. At the end we get a glimpse of the next story which is involving Lazarus, fantastic name, and I have been most excited to read his story!
