Caspian’s UnBirthday (Invisible Magic Wand) by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Jamie Burns

Caspian’s UnBirthday is the third book in the Invisible Magic Wand series by Lois Wickstrom. This book is another great addition to the Invisible Magic Wand series. I love the creativity that was used by Wickstrom with the hot chocolate socks. I enjoyed Caspian and his grandpa’s adventures for his unbirthday.

This book is about the birthday present Caspian’s grandpa gave him, it was not your average birthday present. This year all Caspian got was a pair of brown socks from his grandpa called “Hot Chocolate Socks”. What is so special about these socks? They make Caspian float up in the air, but the best part is that grandpa says he cannot go to school on his unbirthday. He has to have a fun adventure instead. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and a copy of Caspian’s UnBirthday to find out about the adventures Caspian and his grandpa have.

I always absolutely love the books by Lois Wickstrom! My kids love when I bring another one to our family reading night, and this was no exception. The illustrations are wonderful, and we all loved reading the story together. My kiddos had a fun time describing and acting out what they would do with their own hot chocolate socks. Caspian’s grandpa really knows how to make Caspian’s UnBirthday more magical than the last. This is such a cute and fun read! I highly recommend picking it up and having a blast with the kids in your life.

Caspian’s grandpa does it again! This time for Caspian’s unbirthday, he is gifted a pair of brown socks. But as we all know, there has to be something special about them. The boring brown socks give Caspian the ability to fly. So instead of going to school, Caspian and his grandpa go on adventures… they always have fun together. Lois Wickstrom writes great children’s adventure books!

This is the third book in the wonderful children’s series of the Invisible Magic Wand. Once again, the writer has done an amazing job telling the story of the next birthday gift given to Caspian by his grandfather. This one involved a pair of socks that allowed him to fly. And fly they did. All over the town enjoying his birthday and his new birthday gift. I loved it. The illustrations are so vivid and vibrant in color and go along with the story so well. Another book I highly recommend for the kids in your life. Would make a great gift to give to other kids, teachers or even to school libraries.

Who doesn’t want Hot Chocolate Socks? Caspian has the best adventures. This time Grandpa got him the best socks. Pour hot chocolate on them (don’t try this at home) and off they flew with a broom. Fun adventure all day. Another winner for this author. Bright and colorful pictures. An exciting story that brings out conversation with the kiddos. We love Caspian in this house. We are starting our own Unbirthday for our little boy in March this year. We can’t wait to read more.

This is a silly, adventurous book for younger children. It’s Caspian’s unbirthday and he is slightly disappointed with his grandfather’s present. Brown socks! Who wants brown socks? After his grandfather spills hot chocolate on them, Caspian starts floating in the air. The adventure begins as they are both wearing their “hot chocolate socks”. The book is filled with colourful pictures and lots of silliness. This story is sure to be a favourite among the kiddos.

Caspian’s Unbirthday is the third book in the Invisible Magic Wand series by Lois Wickstrom. This cute children’s adventure book really grabs your attention with the bright and interesting illustrations that accompany the story. Grandpa always manages to come up with the most unusual and fun unbirthday gifts for Caspian, and this time it’s a pair of ‘Hot Chocolate Socks’. As expected, lots of fun and adventure ensue. What do Caspian and Grandpa get up to? Grab a copy of this great, silly little caper and follow along to see what happens.
My grandson and I read this book together and he thought it was silly and fun. I thought it captured the imagination quite well with a little whimsey and magic thrown in to make things interesting. As with the other books in this series, it is an enjoyable story. Suitable for children aged 4 to 8.
Happy reading!

Thank you, Lois Wickstrom!

It’s Caspian’s UnBirthday and Grandpa gifts him with a very unique gift. That gift will take Caspian and Grandpa on an unforgettable adventure for the day!!

This is a super cute book with superior graphics. The colors on the illustrations are very vibrant and capture the eye and will hold a listener or reader’s interest while reading or hearing this story. Children will love the idea of an unbirthday gift and will likely ask for unique gifts, just as Caspian receives!

Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.

Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays.

She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.

Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children, four grandchildren and a dog.

Growing up in California, it feels like earthquake preparedness should be the “norm.” However, each and every time I experience a quake, I am always shocked. Always preparing for the “big one.” So I was really happy to find this book to help me explain all of this with my own kids. I know they teach some things in class, however, having two small kids with anxiety meant I would have to address it in a different way. Things are Shaking was the answer to this very problem! I highly recommend reading it to your kids to talk about scary things such as earthquakes.

Things are moving and grooving in this children’s book! There are nice graphics and the food in the pictures look real and my grandson recognized the graphics. I read this to my 2 1/2 year old grandson and it held his attention through the whole story! He even made “whoa” sounds when it looked like everything was shaking around. I always love Lois Wickstrom’s books! They are cute, imaginative, and fun to read with my little ones. We read through this one together and then pretended we had our own Invisible Magic Wands! It was interesting to see and hear what the kids would speed up and slow down, some of them took me by surprise. This author always gives us such an enjoyable read with the added fun of including the whole family. Turn it into a game like we did! You won’t regret having a fun time with this quick read, pick it up and enjoy!

Lois Wickstrom has written yet another imaginative story about Caspian and his family. I love these stories and the beautifully rendered illustrations within them. This is a short story that will spark most children’s imaginations while also sharing knowledge in such a fun way that most won’t realize they are learning simultaneously.

In this book, Caspian’s cousin, Belinda, wants an invisible magic wand like her cousins. Does Grandpa have another one for her? If she gets a wand, will it control time like Caspian’s? You have to read to find out.

Caspian and his cousin are enjoying a fun breakfast with their grandfather and when he uses his magic wand his cousin insist on getting one of her own. As the three enjoy their breakfast and the wands when something starts to happen and the shaking starts. This is a quick read and shows how the three are able to help each other using their own wands. It is a nice way to show communication and how to help others. The only part that I did not like was the way the cousin demands her own wand at the start of the book and she is given it. Otherwise, this is a nice story to show young children how easy it is to help others.

This is the next book in the “Invisible Magic Wand” story, and I found it to be just as cute as the other stories have been. I love that this gives children the opportunity to use their imagination to figure out how to get out of certain situations. This book involved two of the magic wands and an earthquake. This is a perfect book to give parents a chance to discuss natural disasters with their kids and ways to get out of the home should it happen. Again, the illustrations are perfect for the story. Once again the colors just pop off the page and are so vivid. That to me makes it easy to see what is going on in the story and helps set the narrative. Terrific book for kids.

Book two of The Invisible Wand series, this story is a continuation of Caspian’s story after he receives his invisible magic wand. When Caspian uses his wand in front of his cousin, she wants one too. Luckily, Grandpa has one for her and that’s when things get fantastical: everything starts to shake. For children ages 4-8, this book centers on a family with the ability to use wands that control time. The story is short and to the point with well-paired illustrations that are easy to comprehend. The subliminal message about earthquakes/safety during one such event was placed into the story well.

Things are Shaking (Invisible Magic Wand Series) by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Nicole Thompson

My 4-year-old grandson was absolutely enamored with this tale, Things Are Shaking by Lois Wickstrom! In this escapade, Caspian’s cousin Belinda also longs for a magic wand. However, how can they come to the rescue when everything starts to tremble? Will they be able to rely on their magic wands? This narrative is delightful and stimulating. The illustrations are vibrant, bringing the narrative to life and keeping little readers hooked. We will certainly be enjoying other Caspian stories, as well as this one!
