Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having read No Way Out, I instantly started looking forward to this second book in the series I picked this one up as soon as I could and got transferred back into the Mafia Elite world. I ended up reading it in one night. I enjoyed this second book! I enjoyed reading the flashback near the beginning of the story which described their relationship from when they were kids and how it had morphed to what it was in “current day.” Enzo is next in line to be one of the mafia boss heads but is also a protector for Sophia, a friend and woman he has desired for years. Sophia is an up-and-coming fashion designer who is getting her big break with a fashion showing in Milan, that is if she can ever get there with the threat to her life and her family’s overprotective ways. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

No Names to Be GivenNo Names to Be Given by Julia Brewer Daily
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a great, thought provoking read by an author that was new to me. It’s not the usual type of book that I read but some friends had mentioned really enjoying it, so I decided that it must be worth a read. I’m glad that I took the chance on this book as I really enjoyed reading it.
In this book we get the stories of 3 teenage women in the 1960’s who ended up pregnant and had to give up their babies. I was very quickly engrossed in the stories of all 3 women. The author does a very good job of showing the pain and emotion that each woman went through during their pregnancies, immediately after the birth and throughout their lives trying to come to terms with what they had been through.
The three women all have very different backgrounds and very different stories, each as compelling as the other for different reasons.
What was also very eye-opening for me was the racial element of the book. One of the women was involved in a mixed race relationship at a time when race relations were very troubled and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this aspect of the story.
I’d definitely recommend this book to others.

King of Pain (Interstellar Rescue Series Book 5) by Donna S. Frelick – Review by Jacque Flynn

King of Pain (Interstellar Rescue Series Book 5)King of Pain by Donna S. Frelick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The fifth Interstellar Rescue Book in a series, this is the first book I’ve read by this author. She has characters battling conditions, both mental and physical, while defending people against genocide. Constantly surprised in my predictions of what I thought would happen, this book left me feeling pleasantly surprised. Frelick using other-word language had me wishing for a Thrane dictionary to figure out which endearment was actually being used. She also had me feeling cold with such descriptive scenes of blizzard conditions. I would recommend reading this book with a cup of hot cocoa or in the tub, but it’s definitely worth it.

Black Canvas is about control. How some individuals take control and others relinquish control. The concept brewed from obsession. Wanting someone else’s perfect life. Doing what was within her power to gain control and obtain that life for herself. Now, I’m not a big psychological thriller fan, but the author wrote this book wonderfully. She transfers you into her world by her writing. You will not want to put the book down until you have read from the cover to the back cover.

From the first page, this book brings you into the emotions and attachments felt by our characters and it keeps its hold all the way through. It had me feeling so many different emotions. It was a very emotional read. The Author is very attentive to detail and offers a smooth, easy read. Jared and Madison are magnets drawn to each other, they’re unable to resist the pull. They were magnetic! Their relationship was heartfelt and truly amazing. They had off the chart chemistry. My heart went out to Jared. I wouldn’t change anything about this book. I loved Jared and Madison together.

What a way to kick of a new series! I was hooked from beginning to end. I love mafia romance, and this was the perfect example of that genre! Action, tension, angst, romance! This book had it all and more! There is that attraction between Max and Lilian, Lord! I could feel that coming off the pages! The author knew exactly how to transport you in her world. I’m excited to read her next book in the series.

Oh my gosh where do I start! This book is exceptional! Get ready to not want to put it down okay? Very fast paced story with levels to every turn! I’m so glad I read this. From cover to cover Grace shows us that she is a real woman with real issues, she’s facing them and is determined to get her life back. I love that the author gets gritty in her character building of Grace. I’ve always been a fan of law and order type dramas, and after reading this, I am happy to admit this would be amazing in movie form. I’m already looking forward to book two!

States of Grace (Grace Locke Mystery Series) by Mandy Miller – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

States of GraceStates of Grace by Mandy Miller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Grace Locke is a down on her luck prosecutor and disabled army veteran who is very close to losing her law licence. Fresh out of jail, she is now living in a run-down motel room and eating ramen noodles. As much as she appreciates the second chance she is given, Grace is not at all happy that she is now forced to defend the types of criminals that she used to love sending to jail. As if that was not bad enough, Grace finds herself caught up in the dark world of drugs and addiction, the very thing that landed her in jail. One of the criminals Grace is forced to defend should be a slam dunk because, in Grace’s eyes, the teen is clearly guilty.

Grace soon makes the startling discovery that her client may be innocent, leading her to start digging for the truth. The more she digs the more Grace realizes that the dead guy was involved heavily in the criminal underworld. She is now racing against the clock to find the real killer and prove her client’s innocence.

States of Grace was fast paced and hard to put down from the first page. Grace’s character is real, raw, gritty, and believable as she struggles to remain sober while also coping with her disability. This legal thriller was full of twists and turns which lead up to a surprise ending. I won’t spoil the ending; you will have to read this book yourself to find out.

States of Grace (Grace Locke Mystery Series) by Mandy Miller – Review by Rosanna Ingram

States of GraceStates of Grace by Mandy Miller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you love a good legal drama…this is for you!

Grace is trying to pick up the pieces of her life after a recent DUI. She is going through a divorce, she is battling an addiction to painkillers after losing her leg in Fallujah, and she is trying not get disbarred in the state of Florida. To remain in their good graces, she finds herself on the other side of the aisle in the courtroom where she is now a public defender.

Through some not so up-and-up means, Grace finds herself defending Zoe. Zoe is accused of murdering her guidance counselor. Zoe also happens to be the daughter of her soon-to-be ex-husband’s mistress. At the onset, it looks like Zoe is guilty. But, Grace is not so easily convinced. She believes there is more at play here…and she is going to prove it. However, with cops thwarting her progress at every move, she finds herself in deeper than she could have imagined…and it could ruin both their lives. Will she be able to find the truth before it’s too late?

There are so many great characters in this story that keep it interesting. Grace is wonderful while being real. I swear, her fake leg is a character all on its own! I enjoyed the realistic situation of the story and the inclusion of all the courtroom moments. I felt like I was reading a crime-drama movie!

Forbidden Moon (The Shadow Chronicles Book 3) by CR Robertson – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Forbidden MoonForbidden Moon by C.R. Robertson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Once again, the author created an exciting edition to the series. In Forbidden Moon, as the third book, Levi and Tasha are continuing to find a way to rid the world of the hellspawn. However, they have a new addition, their daughter, Persephone. This little girl may be the key to all of the chaos due to her amazing, developing powers. She is also the first mixed breed, so no one knows what will become of her and how far she will be able to span her powers. However, all of them believe between Tasha, Persephone, and the other witches, they are the key to serenity, but we will have to wait to see. In addition, this book provides information that is deemed important for how it all began and how they suspected the problem to be solved, but everything is always changing.
One of the things that makes these books so good is not only the story telling, but the dynamics of the characters. The love story between Levi and Tasha is only something we can all hope to have. In one scene, Tasha’s sister states, “I can’t help but want someone in my life who looks at me as if I’m the last morsel in the base and he’s starving.” She explains the love between Levi and Tasha perfectly – they have passion, commitment, desire, basically what one would call an all consummate love – the best kind. I can’t wait to see where the story is taken and hope for a happy ending for all of them!

Apocalypse Thoughts (The Pox Series Book 5) by Kendra Griffin – Review by Ayla Eddy

Apocalypse ThoughtsApocalypse Thoughts by Kendra Griffin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Simply Amazing. This book is a fantastic read about the possible end of the world. It is not the run of the mill apocalypse story with Hollywood zombies. It is a fresh view on how a sudden pandemic can turn humans into “zombies” or as the book calls them “Hyenas”, which are mutated humans with lethal bite as opposed to rotting walking dead bodies. Kella along with her little brother Huck and cousin Jumper are carrying vital CDC information along the Appalachian trail. Technology is down leaving them to travel the journey to hopefully save the world. Through the story you get a sense of each character and their relationship with the other characters. They are relatable and so easy to connect with that you don’t want to put the book down. I for sure did not want to stop reading once I started this book. I cannot wait to continue on reading this series.

Heartbreak, healing and humour
It was so good to be back in the small town of Parker and getting to know Breckin and Griff. Their story was heartfelt and beautiful. The author’s delivery is amazing with a brilliant mix of humour, romance, drama and real life issues. This can be read as a stand-alone but it is so worth reading book 1 to get to know the town and the people more. I am really looking forward to CC and Brant’s story in book 3.

Master Trentino (Masters of the Consulate Book 3) by Sylvia Black – Review by Angela Shirley

Master TrentinoMaster Trentino by Sylvia Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Master Trentino is still trying to help locate the leak within the consulate but as going about his busy he comes across his enemies sister bleeding on the floor minutes away from death, he has two options save her and break his rules of the consulate or let her die. As Trentino is drawn to Angel he decides to save and turn her into a vampire.

Angel is confused and lost as she is now something she has been taught to hate through out of her life, how can she get her head around that she is now a vampire, but with the pull and drawn to Trentino can she keep her feelings in check and help uncover the traitor within the court of vampires, but can she live as a vampire.

This is the third book in this series and I think this is my favourite so far. Although this is a series you can read each book as a stand alone although the stories do interlink in some way it does not distract from each story. This story involves Trentino and Angel and I have to say from the first couple of paragraphs you can feel the undercurrent of this story.

I loved the way the story weaves through with a hint of mystery of trying to find who is trying to bring down the consulate and with the chemistry of Angel and Trentino this story is full of fireworks and passion.

I can wait to read the next instalment in this series.

OMG! As I sit here and try to write this review I still have tears running down my face from this amazing, emotional, exceptionally well written story! I am truly struggling to find the right words to fully do this book the justice it deserves. The entire time I was reading this book my heart was involved in every word and every turn of the page. A true sign of a great writer I say.

My heart beat along with Jared, Madison (Cookie) and Mr Christopher as they tried to navigate their way through Mr Cs illness along with the highs a great day can bring and the pain a bad day can bring. In fact I fell in love with all the main cast of characters and now I know some of them are in other books by this amazing author I will be finding them and reading them also. I just might need some recovery time first! A Rock star, his Dad and a nurse might seem like and unusual combination at first but please do yourself a favour and READ THIS BOOK!! If I could give it more than 5 stars I absolutely would!!!!

I absolutely could not put this book down! I love this story so much. Ever since I read the first book in this series, I’ve been waiting for CC to meet the right man and have her chance to fall in love. Even though CC comes across as tough and not caring what other people think, she’s actually really vulnerable and doesn’t have much self confidence at all. She thinks there’s no way that a hot man that went to college to be in the medical field would ever be interested in her. She underestimates herself and how amazing she is constantly. Brant is dealing with his own demons from his past and he falls so fast for CC. I love how he picks a special nickname that’s sweet and just for him to call her and Memaw is back in this one and hilarious as ever! I can’t say enough good things about this sweet amazing romance. It’s one that’s definitely not to be missed!

Nite Fire: Chain Reaction (Book 2) by C.L. Schneider – Review by Beverly Finnie

Chain Reaction (Nite Fire #2)Chain Reaction by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Well I enjoyed this book too! Nite Fire: Chain Reaction is the next book in the series. We pick up pretty much where the last book cut off. The big difference now is through this book officer Casey Evans knows who and what Dahlia is. He doesn’t know everything but he knows she’s from a different realm and that she’s a dragon shifter.
Just like book 1 I enjoy the dynamic between Detective Creed and Dahlia, however I feel like Dahlia is at a point where she’s torn. I feel like the author through the first so many chapters was implying that Dahlia wished she could tell Detective Creed her secrets, but knew he was better off not knowing. It gave me something to look forward to while reading the book.

Does he find out? Do they finally capture/defeat everyone involved in the 1st book murders?

Please check it out! I would highly recommend reading book 1 first if you haven’t already! Personally am looking forward to book 3!

I was excited to get the next book in the series. It was a great 5 star read. I really enjoyed the characters and their story.

CC and Brant have both had some tough childhoods which have caused walls to come up and insecurities. CC is the town’s hairstylist and Brant is the local doctor. They have definitely noticed each other for about two years now. Thanks to their friends they are set up on a date. Will the date finally get them going in the right direction? Can they have a HEA?

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I really liked all of the secondary characters, it was like a reunion from the first two books. I really liked her high school friends Annabelle and Breckin. I was pulled right in by the author’s writing and was on an emotional rollercoaster. You can read this book as a stand alone but I highly suggest reading from the beginning. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, 1-click and get started today.

Flash Point (Nite Fire, #1)Flash Point by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Well I’ve read all kinds of books with shapeshifters, but this is the first one with Dragon shifters! Nite Fire: Flashpoint was interesting to say the least. I liked it but it took me a little bit to get into it.
Dahlia fled her world because she was sentenced to death. She was going to take the death in stride but her human empathy got the best of her and she escaped. Living in the human world she’s a cleaner. To humans she’s just a maid but she really cleans up the messes that those “make believe beings” create and leave behind. One night Oren sends her on a job that flips her current world on its axis.
Enter Detective Creed, who’s job and skill are to deal with the “strange and unusual” & flipping it into something the captain can report to the media.
Together these two work this case of family who were brutally murdered. Dahlia is coming to terms that it’s her own kind she’s up against. Detective Creed knows something definitely isn’t right. With his case and his new partner.
I enjoyed the character dynamics between the two, it’s actually what brought me back into this book. I was struggling before these two started working together.
Does Detective Creed find out what Dahlia is, and who they’re really up against?
This supernatural murder mystery will answer all those questions, you just need to pick up this book and give it a chance!

States of Grace is the first book in the Grace Locke Mystery Series and debut novel by Mandy Miller. This story pulled me in right from the beginning and kept me engrossed the whole way through. I was not expecting that from a debut novel- but, as I just discovered, this author really knows how to write a compelling story- full of depth, attention to detail, vivid descriptions, palpable tension, and intrigue. Colour me hooked!
Grace Locke is trying to get her life back on track after a fall from grace- but things aren’t going quite to plan. She is an attorney, living day to day, trying to make ends meet. With quite a lot of baggage, this war veteran will need to dig deep in order to overcome her demons. When a new murder case comes to her attention- things quickly become complicated- there is definitely more to the case than meets the eye. What happens makes or a thrilling read!
If you love crime and investigation stories, thrillers, or mysteries with plenty of drama, intrigue, and suspense wrapped up in a tightly woven and engrossing story- then this is definitely the book for you!
Can’t wait to see where we go from here. Bring on Book #2!!
Happy reading!

Thank you, Mandy Miller!

Nite Fire: Chain Reaction by C. L. Schneider – Review by Shadel Ayerbe

Chain Reaction (Nite Fire #2)Chain Reaction by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a book all about the supernatural.

Murder, mayhem, dragons, and mutants—oh my! Dahlia Nite is the only one who can discern the difference between monsters and humans. She’s been hunting one to defend the other for over a century, protecting mankind from creatures that slip through the tattered curtain between the worlds—creatures like her. However, the distinctions are becoming increasingly blurred. Dahlia recognizes a weird sickness has fallen upon Sentinel City as individuals begin to mutate and explode on the streets. From the upscale, high-end nightclub sector to the impoverished neighborhood, the unknown sickness affects people from all walks of life. Its victims, driven to random acts of brutality, are attracting far too much attention to be hidden.

Dahlia and her human companion, Detective Alex Creed, are assigned to the case and are investigating the fatalities. But all they have are questions and bodies, as well as a terrified public. Dahlia is working behind the scenes with her self-appointed sidekick, Casey Evans, to figure out what or who is behind the frightening changes. She wonders, as the violence escalates and the mystery deepens if the victims are still human. Were they ever-present?

I loved this story. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is my second book in the series from this author and I can’t wait to read the rest of her books.

Blindsided: A Contemporary Sports Romance by T. Christensen

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. The fact that this book starts at the beginning of their friendship makes me happy. I like reading through them growing up and it makes it go a little faster.

Kirsa has been bestfriends with Brock since they were kids. When Victoria comes around things start to change. Then they get to high school and he changes. The quote I chose for Kirsa is: “Your mom said at least twenty people are coming. When did it get so big, and why didn’t you tell me?”

Brock has stuck up for Kirsa since they were kids. Even as they get older he’s always been there for her. Can he get over being the popular kid and get back to being her best friend? The quote I chose for Brock is: “Fine. But I’m not going to pretend to be a girl or play with dolls.”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author.

CC is a hairdresser and loves her job. The older ladies are driving her mad with new colors and it’s making her job harder. Then a big fundraiser comes around making her friends buy her a date from the auction. The quote I chose for CC is: “I’m almost finished and then you’ll have to sit for a bit while the color sets. Then I’ll style it up and you can be on your way. I’ll have you looking like a shamrock in no time.”

Brant is new to town and working his way through school. Taking the job in Parker proves difficult, but he’s loving it. Especially when he meets CC and goes out with her. The quote I chose for Brant is: “It’s an honor. Totally what I went to nursing school to do.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Comedy lovers.

I’m so sad that I’m done with these two books and I’ll never get to read them for the first time again! Not many books make me feel that way but these have somehow touched me in a way not many books have and it feels cheap to say this but, this 2 book series has absolutely become my favorites of 2021.

I’m going to miss the sweetness of Tori and Will. With everything they went through you could feel how much they cared for each other radiating off the pages. My heart still broke a few times in this part of the story. I can only imagine how those fears can affect a person, and once again the way every scene was written was with a lot of thought and you could tell the author put everything she had into each word. I loved how the friendships held tight throughout and how they all came together to help and be the support system for them.

This one had a few scenes that you really will need a fan blowing on you while reading! Holy Moly!! And thats all Im going to say about that LOL

These 2 books are a team, you can not read one without the other, and I can not wait to give it some time and start them all over again.

So many thanks to this author for giving me this story, and also taking the time needed to make them so perfect.

Can not wait for more from this author!!!! I will read them all!
