My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked up this book because I was a bit curious about mail order brides of the 1800’s and what that might have experienced. Isabella has recently moved from Sweden to America with her parents. What was supposed to be new experiences for the three of them, takes a tragic turn when Isabella’s parents get sick on the voyage over and end up passing away. It must be hard for Isabella to be in this land where she has no family.
After a fire destroys her current job, Isabella decides to become a mail order bride. She is excited for the new journey and a bit worried about meeting her husband to be. Along the way, she almost gets kidnapped. Thank goodness a kind gentleman helps her out and she makes it to the train station where she finally meets Mr. Jenks, her husband to be. Will Isabella’s life be as picturesque as it’s described by Mr. Jenks?
