Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series Book 3) by Winter Austin – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another gripping read in this series of books, and once again I was hooked from page one. Jolie Murdoch is a newly pinned deputy in McIntire County and her first big case is to locate a missing girl. The case gets even more complicated when the girl’s father is found murdered, seemingly by the local bartender Xavier Hartmann who was also found at the crime scene. Jolie has to work out why Xavier, with no apparent motive would suddenly bludgeon a man to death. However, the former marine who has a traumatic brain injury has no memory of what happened or why he was there. Xavier was in Eider to confront his past and is shocked to be the number one suspect in a murder, meanwhile Jolie is working hard to investigate whilst fighting against mounting pressure to get to the truth. Jolie realises that Xavier might be innocent and he finds himself drawn to her, but someone seems determined to stop both Jolie’s investigation and her developing relationship with Xavier. Once again the setting of McIntire County was brought vividly to life by the descriptive narrative, which made me feel immersed in the story. The storyline and plot twists along with the great characters all kept me happily turning the pages, and I look forward to the next book in this series.

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is another great addition to a brilliant series. A lot happens with the story and the characters and it all pulls you into the book with ease. I really enjoyed these characters and I think they have to be my favourite of the series so far. The had a strong connection and I enjoyed watching how they navigated everything thrown at them.
The story is full of suspense and intrigue. There were plenty of pieces to try and put together and it was great to see if I could figure it all out. I have really enjoyed this whole series so far and I am looking forward to whatever the author does with it next.

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series Book 3) by Winter Austin – Review by Kerry Carr

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in the McIntire County Series. I have loved these books from the first one. Each story can be read as a standalone however personally I do advise to read them from the start so you get a better idea of the characters, their links to each other and the pasts they share.
This story is a crime mystery story with a sprinkle of Suspense and romance thrown into the mix.
In this story we are with Jolie and Xavier.
Jolie has has a tough time of things with her brother turning out to be a killer and the pressure from her father to do well and progress in her career she has a lot going on. Now with a missing girl to find the pressure ramps up even more. So the last thing she wanted to find was a dead body and Xavier next to it covered in blood.
Now she has more questions that answers. Why would someone murder this person? And even though all the evidence is pointing to Xavier could he really be the killer? Is Xavier’s sudden memory loss just a convenient tactic or is there something going on with Xavier that Jolie doesn’t know.
Xavier is a former marine who was left with a traumatic brian injury after an IED exploded taking away his leg in the process. He is a secretive man, no one really knows much about his past or his continued issues with the brain injury that causes him to black out. When he is found with the body he realises things look bad and with no memory of what actually happened he doesn’t even know himself if he committed the crime or not.
As Jolie starts to investigate she realises links between this missing girl and a cold case which if that’s the case means that Xavier  is innocent. But as the evidence mounts there seem to be more questions than answers and with Xavier  being secretive about his past it makes it even harder to trust him.

Jolie believes Xavier is innocent and is determined to prove that even if that means at times her judegment is impaired and causing her to put her job on the line. He is innocent? Or is Jolie to stubborn and so determined to be proved right that she will discard things that don’t paint the picture she expects.
This is a fast paced murder mystery with 2 main characters that have their flaws but they are trying to work through them.
Jolie’s character was a little unsure of herself to begin with so it was lovely to watch her grow and blossom, and also Xavier’s character it was nice to see him let down so of his boundaries and let people see the real him.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the next one.

Mr. Wimp (The Human Mating Site Book 1) by B.L. Wilde – Review by Mary Espinoza

Mr Wimp (The Human Mating Site #1)Mr Wimp by B.L. Wilde
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mr. Wimp: A Steamy, Dating Humour Novella is the first novella in The Human Mating Site. This will be a series of 13 novellas with stories from The Human Mating Site, and I couldn’t be more excited! I mean what is there not to love about a good ol’ novella! In this episode of this novella, we are introduced to Bella, who is divorcing after 12 years of marriage, and finds herself in unfamiliar waters! She has joined back into the dating game, and she’s not too sure of the adventures that lie before her! This was a quick enjoyable read, that I found to be extremely entertaining! Bella finds that dating is difficult, especially after a long break due to her marriage, and Bella’s story shows us the difficulties that she is having. There are some steamy parts that mix with humor. It was a fast read, and I look forward to reading more in this series. Like I said, what’s not to love about a good ol’ novella!

Daring Ceri (True Platinum Rock Star Romance Series Book 6) by Morgana Bevan – Review by Deirdre Lawson

Daring Ceri (True Platinum #6)Daring Ceri by Morgana Bevan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Daring Ceri is the sixth book in the True Platinum Rockstar Romance Series by Morgana Bevan.

Don’t dare Ceri to do something, because she might just take you up on it. That’s how she ended up traveling across the US and Canada on tour with The Brightside. Join Ceri and Alex, the rock star husband she didn’t know she had, as they play and dance night after night in packed stadiums, in this forced proximity, enemies to lovers romance. Daring Ceri is a story of second chances, bitterness to love, loss and regret, mistakes and growth, redemption, and ultimately, forgiveness and healing. It is a tale of childhood sweethearts who got caught up in a life beyond their control, which takes place against the backdrop of the world of rock ‘n’ roll.

Even for a middle-aged woman, this is a thoroughly enjoyable read. The book is chock-full of timeless, thematic material that tugs at the heartstrings. It also has a way of taking one back to one’s youth, especially if they grew up in any kind of music scene, or dreamt of escaping to one. It leaves the reader smiling.

Killer Smile by Allan Evans – Review by Mary Espinoza

Killer SmileKiller Smile by Allan Evans
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Killer Smile by Allan Evans is my first read by this author, and I was not the least bit disappointed! I didn’t know that this was actually book 2 of a series, and it was easy to read as a stand-alone book. The author has a unique writing style that draws you in and keeps you entertained! I really enjoyed his attention to details that was really important in making his story feel realistic. To me this book was a well written story about a detective finds himself in a race against time to find a group of serial killers. Cade (the detective) happens to find a web site for serial killers, and the most interesting find is that he is one of the targets! You will have to read the book to find out what happens to Cade and the group of serial killers. This book was very entertaining and engaging and was hard to put down! Great job Allan, I look forward to reading more books!

Beyond Friendship (The Irresistible Series Book 3) by Marlyn Love – Review by Barbara Bohls

Beyond Friendship (The Irresistible Series #3)Beyond Friendship by Marlyn Love
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the series but I feel like you would be able to read this series out of order. If you accidentally stumbled upon this book and read it, you wouldn’t be lost and would find that this is an amazing story. The characters are written beautifully that you will feel like they are your besties. There are times that you just want to face-palm yourself because you are the invested in what you’re reading. You will love all the angst that this story brings. The steam is really well written that it just flows off the pages. I found myself turning the pages as fast as I could because I needed to know if the characters will overcome what they are facing and how it will end for them. This is a book you don’t want to miss and I would suggest reading the entire series because you can’t go wrong with reading books that are really well written.

Morgan is looking for a good live in nanny for his daughter Ciara. Well his best friend so happens to have a little sister Blake who seems to be the perfect fit. Morgan is very protective of his daughter, as her mother is an actress and really doesn’t want anything to do with Ciara. That is until she gets married and decides she wants to try and be mother of the year. Morgan already has full custody and refuses any visits that aren’t supervised. Blake wasn’t planning on falling in love with anyone or have children, until she meets Ciara, and Morgan.<br />It’s a slow romance but oh so good. It will give you many laughs, and smiles until your cheeks hurt. What a beautiful story!

I loved this story. These two were heart wrenching yet beautiful. I did have to get tissue for the tears. The story was done so beautiful. I don’t do the romances with medical emergencies often just because of this but this is the best one I’ve read yet. I support characters were absolutely wonderful. They were written in to the story so well. The story has a little of everything in it. I highly recommend it.

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite Book 6) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Helen Dawkins

Cruel Love: A College Sports Romance (Hidden Valley Elite #6)Cruel Love: A College Sports Romance by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the last book in the duet story about Phoenix and Aspen (+ prequel). I highly recommend reading Books 1-4 in the series beforehand as well, but it is not required.

I absolutely love this story. At first, I didn’t think anyone could surpass Riley & Cole (Book 1 & 2), but this couple blew them out of the park.

Neither of their pasts let them have the desire to fall in love. They don’t have great relationship models in their life. Onto of that, they both have very high career goals, and nothing will get in their way. That is until they meet eachothers match. Both Aspen and Phoenix are headstrong and take no crap.

After a one night stand, Aspen ends up pregnant. Both are very hard-headed, and while they both want this child, there is something deeper in their relationship, something neither of them are willing to admit.

There is a lot of back and forth in this book. Do not expect a happy relationship from the beginning. Expect to cry and scream at the characters to get their shit together.

It takes a life changing event to get them both to accept the fact they love each other. It takes Phoenix losing his memory of Aspen. It is soooo cute to see Phoenix and what he thinks of Aspen without his macho-man personality he has grown into.

The ending is A+++ they are the cutest! I can’t wait to read the next duet and conclude the series! I love seeing the tid bits of information about the previous couples throughout the next books as well – I get to hang on to them just a little longer!

Chasing Cheer (Emerald Hollow Book 1) by Heather Schneider – Review by Nicole Thompson

“Chasing Cheer” by Heather Schneider is an enchanting five-star holiday tale that captures the essence of the season. From its quirky dedication, “To everyone who starts listening to Christmas music before it’s socially acceptable,” to its heartwarming themes, this book is a perfect read as the Christmas spirit starts to twinkle. Holly Claus embarks on a journey that takes her to Emerald Falls, Oregon, and her encounter with inn owner Ash steals the show. The chemistry between Holly and Ash is palpable, making this book an uplifting and joyful read.

A delightful escape into the magic of Christmas and love, making “Chasing Cheer” a must-read for anyone who adores the holiday season. Schneider’s storytelling is like a cozy, warm blanket on a cold winter’s night, and I eagerly await the possibility of more adventures with Holly and Ash in the future.

Beyond Friendship (The Irresistible Series Book 3) by Marlyn Love – Review by Jenni Bishop

Beyond Friendship (The Irresistible Series #3)Beyond Friendship by Marlyn Love
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beyond Friendship is a beautiful yet heart-wrenching contemporary romance best friend’s little sister tale. Make sure to have tissues on hand because you will need them. This is my first time delving into this authors work and I was pleasantly surprised.
Unfortunately, I discovered after I had finished this book that it is the third book in the Irresistible series, but I did not feel like I was missing out on anything. But I am going back to read the first two.
This is Brian and Amanda’s love story!
Brian has a secret he can never share and that means women are only a means to an end. He is not a man looking for love or so he thought. Then she walked into the room and his heart started beating again.
Amanda is a romantic at heart and wants that for herself. She thinks it is within her reach until she discovers Mr Right has come at the wrong time.
This charming yet emotional tale has it all. It is a heartbreaker, it is witty, full of banter, a touch angsty, lots of sexual tension, made with lots of sugar and spice and plenty of steam and is a tearjerker.
Marilyn’s writing style flows easily and writes characters so likable they feel so real, and they capture your heart. Her narrative is so vivid you can easily imagine all that she describes.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from her.
A definite must read!

Wild For Me (The Balefire Series Book 3) by Tam DeRudder Jackson – Review by Brittany Angel

Wild For Me (Balefire, #3)Wild For Me by Tam DeRudder Jackson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another great one in the Balefire series. Wild For Me is book 3 in the series but can be read as a standalone. When Dakota and Annabelle cross paths again for the first time since their one wild, crazy night, sparks fly. Soon, Annabelle scores the internship of a lifetime and will once again be in Dakota Perri’s orbit. This was a fun, quick read and does really well telling the characters stories. I will, however, stand by my stance that a miscommunication trope is never a good choice. It’s always too predictable and seems 100% avoidable, but alas, it still worked out, and we got out HEA.

Daring Ceri (True Platinum Rock Star Romance Series Book 6) by Morgana Bevan – Review by Beverly Finnie

Daring Ceri (True Platinum #6)Daring Ceri by Morgana Bevan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading Daring Ceri and I was surprised to see that the books in this series overlap. I figured there’d be a slight overlap at the end but no, this was revealed to overlap pretty early on. I really enjoy reading the work this author releases. I’ve read quite a few books from her and she draws me in every time. I never want to put the book down.
Ceri and Alex’s story is no different. At the beginning I was getting “Sweet Home Alabama” vibes for anyone who has seen that movie. And if you love it like I do, definitely read this book.
Ceri is excited to move on with her life, but unfortunately finds out there’s a massive bump in her road. How can she get married, when she’s already married to someone else? What makes it worse is it’s the one man who hurt her the most. Why did she have to be attached to Alex?
Alex was dumbfounded to find out his second chance was thrust in front of him in this way. He was married to the one who got away, this was his chance to make it right. One problem, she was demanding a divorce. So he convinced her to give him 3-4 months on tour to prove to her otherwise, if he was wrong he would sign the papers.
Things start unraveling quickly between them. The constant push and pull. His label is against their relationship. The tabloids have gotten wind. They constantly are pushing each other’s buttons. Her fiancé leaves her.
So what happens when the tour finally kicks off?
Will she give in or stand her ground?
What will the label say?
The tour is where the real fun in this second chance romance begins. When I mean fun, I mean for the reader. Because this is the juicy part of the story. The part that keeps us turning the pages and wanting more…

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite Book 6) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Mandy Ott

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite #6)Cruel Love by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cruel Love, book 6 in the Hidden Valley Elite Series, is another hit for Isla Vaughn! This installment concludes Phoenix and Aspen’s story and does so with an oh-so-sweet twist at the end. The cliffhanger ending of Cruel Hate is resolved with lots of drama and secrets coming to light, as only Isla Vaughn can do. More of the family backstory is revealed which helps explains a lot of unanswered questions from the previous books in the series. The same great world building and character development is present in Cruel Love, and I am absolutely here for it! The characters are perfectly imperfect, if a little larger than life, but that’s what makes them The Elite. Phoenix and Aspen’s story is so emotional, full of love, anger, happiness, and learning how to connect and reconnect. They have such a deep connection that started with an overwhelming physical need for one another but develops into such a beautiful love. I cannot wait to read Shane’s story next!

ALTERATIONS TRILOGY: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal Will by Jane Suen – Review by Julie Johnson

Alterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal WillAlterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal Will by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This trilogy is easy to read in one or two setting. Each book in this series is around 100 pages or so.

This book is interesting, creepy, and downright scary at times with the options available to people these days. While this is a work of science fiction, it could easily become a reality, if it hasn’t already.

Three women, all with differing sorts of body image issues, submit to Dr. Kite and his experimental microchips. Each chip is designed to “fix” the image issue that the person is facing. In Alterations, the focus is on the change that takes place within each of these three. Game Changer is about a life changing experience for each of them and Primal Will is their resolve to get away from the chip itself.

These stories are situations that are very real to many people and the resulting experiment proves that science is a good answer but not always the right one!!

This author is very quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I’ve read a few of her books now and she doesn’t disappoint!! She writes excellent books with a psychokiller thriller slant!

Ignite My Heart is part of Alicia Street’s North Fork series. While it is not the first book in the series, it’s the first book I’ve read by this author and it read well as a stand-alone. I liked that this book was on the shorter side for a novel but never felt rushed. The characters were really well written and enjoyable, the kind that you root for and feel could be friends of yours in reality. The fact that this story flowed so well with strong characters sparked an interest in what more this author or series has to offer. I look forward to reading more of the North Fork series.

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite Book 6) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Michelle Mulvey

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite #6)Cruel Love by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The conclusion to Phoenix and Aspen’s story. I couldn’t think of a better way for their story to go. These two had a really rough time since they met and how everything happened. I love the girls in this series. They are all so strong. Not sure how Aspen handled everything but she did it and did it well. As for Phoenix…well I guess the truth to his feelings for Aspen are there when it matters. The elite may be these big, strong guys who don’t date or settle down but all it takes is for one break thru to their heart and that’s that! Definitely loved this story with all the drama and hurdles thrown in. Looking forward to Shane’s book next!

Ignite My Heart
By: Alicia Street

This is my first book by Alicia Street and let me tell you I LOVED it. This is a short novel and it definitely delivers a lot! I almost wish it was longer just because I enjoyed it so much. There is so much chemistry from the first time we meet both Blake and Morgan. It had such a fun plot line and featured some unexpected twists. I definitely loved every page and I cannot wait to read more by Alicia Street.

The Mother’s Threat by Susan Specht Oram – Review by Trista Martin

The Mother's Threat: A compelling domestic thrillerThe Mother’s Threat: A compelling domestic thriller by Susan Specht Oram
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is the first book I’ve read by Susan Specht Oram. Violet opens her own security business and it turns out her mom is part of the group that is her biggest threat. It is written as a suspense but is fairly predictable throughout. It was a quick and good read despite not being suspenseful.
