What I love about Ms. Wickstrom’s books is that she uses girls as inventors and science lovers. This book fits right in with that! Alex listens to the beautiful purple flowers, finds a way to talk with them, and then invents how to allow them to fly into the sky! Alex has perseverance and never gives up. She is exactly what a scientist is – someone who tries and tries again until the end result is found. Beautiful illustrations, a quick story line, and the plot takes you where Alex wants you to go!

Savage Truth is Book Two in the Hidden Valley Elite series. The book carries on with the story from Book One that was filled with drama, anger, hatred, with a bully themed/friends turning to lover’s theme. It centers around the characters of Riley and Cole who both attend Hidden Valley Elite high school. Cole is known as one of the Elites at the school because he is a star of the football team and basically becomes the king of everything he does. He is the type of guy that guys want to be and that girls want to be with. Riley used to attend the school and has just returned after being gone for a year. She never imagined that she would be returning after being on the run with her mom from her mother’s psychotic ex-boyfriend. Riley also never expected to see Cole again after they shared a secret kiss while drunk at a party. Cole has not been able to get Riley out of his mind since then so when he sees her again feelings surface. In typical douchebag, jock, I’m-too-good-for-everyone behavior Cole decides to torment and bully Riley. She stands her ground and pushes back and the two play the cat and mouse game back and forth as they maneuver through their love-hate relationship.
In Book Two the story of Riley and Cole continues, and we are able to see its conclusion. The cat and mouse game between them continues and the chemistry between them grows. Cole realizes that he has intense feelings for Riley that he has been denying. In the past all he cared about were physical relationships but with Riley he feels a deep connection. Riley realizes that she loves Cole and has never felt like this about anyone before. Things heat up when secrets start to come to light about Riley’s mom and the true reasons Cole hates Riley and her mom. When secrets about who Riley’s dad is come to light and Riley’s life may be in danger, Riley must decide if she will run again or have the strength to stay. As the secrets and lies surface and danger looms, it pushes Riley and Cole to make hard decisions. Rather than fight each other they decide to fight for one another and protect one another at all costs.
This storyline may cause triggers to some because of its dark subject matter. As a survivor of bullying in high school it was a bit difficult to read at times. The characters are ones that you will either love or hate. Or in the case of Cole, love to hate at first. In the beginning, he was a bully through and through and had the attitude that he was better than everyone else. Yet, you cannot help but feel that there is more under the surface and must understand that high school is a popularity contest. Cole is used to getting his own way, used to winning, and used to being popular so he could not risk losing all that. Riley is used to living a life in hiding, running from her mom’s ex, and never staying in one place long. She just wants to get through high school and not draw attention to herself. Yet, Riley is not the type of girl to put up with stuff and will stand her ground and push back. She is strong and feisty. Both Riley and Cole developed and matured in this book. We were able to see a softer side of Cole that loved Riley and wanted to protect her from harm. Their love-hate game slowly bloomed into more, but it did not come easily. Great series that will have you reading to the end to find out what happens.

This was an enjoyable and engaging paranormal romance which kept me hooked. Nurse Lillian Milano has the paranormal ability to channel energy from the healthy to heal the sick. However, her unique gift is wanted by an organisation that wants to exploit this talent. Due to the danger both her and her family are in Lillian went into hiding, but then her sister becomes gravely ill, and she needs to find someone with enough vitality to save her. Billionaire computer genius Tristan King is that person, however he does not believe in the supernatural. Lillian and Tristan make a bargain, she must pose as his date for a hospital fundraiser, in the hopes that his lying ex-fiancé will finally leave him alone, and he will help her. Tristan’s mother is also dying and as the pair work together to save their loved ones they can’t ignore their mutual attraction. However, Tristan remains wary of falling in love and Lillian is worried that her secrets and her identity will be discovered. I liked the main characters as both Lillian and Tristan were likeable and relatable, and their chemistry came across in the narrative. The storyline flowed well and was a good mix of drama, the paranormal and romance.

This is an enjoyable paranormal romance which focuses on Lillian and Tristan. Ultimately a story about love, both romantic and familial, as they both fight to save their loved ones.
I loved the character Lillian – she’s so strong in the face of the danger, and risks everything for her sister. Her determination to save her is admirable and I think her fears and desires are written well. I got very invested in the characters’ stories and the outcome of the events they go through.
I enjoyed the writing style used in the book, it was easy to follow, and valuable information was drip-fed at the perfect times to make it feel more real and aids the story. The author built chemistry between characters so that it was almost tangible, and I couldn’t get enough! This was the first book I’ve read by the author, but I’ll be on the lookout for more!

Healing Kiss tells the story of a nurse named Lillian who has been on the run from an evil corporation who wants to use her as their guinea pig. To save herself and her family she faked her death and took on the new name of Zoey. Lillian/Zoey has healing powers that the evil corporation, Kinetica, want to monopolize on for their own gain. Lillian knows that if they capture her, she will be dead because they killed her mother. When she finds out that her sister Hannah is dying, she risks her life to come back and try to save her sister’s life. When she gets to the hospital, she discovers that she does not have enough energy to save her and needs to find someone she can draw energy from. Enter Tristan, whom Lillian meets by accident outside the hospital. She strikes up a deal with him without telling him the true reasons she needs his help because she is fearful of Tristan’s reaction. Rather than tell him about her healing powers she makes up a story, but secrets have a way of coming out eventually.
I loved how this storyline was laid out and the author’s writing style. The story was about more than two people meeting and eventually falling in love. It was also about the supernatural gift that Lillian had which came at a risk to use. Lillian’s gift of healing powers was one that intrigued and fascinated me. It was unfortunate that she had to hide it and herself from those that intended to bring harm to her and her family. I enjoyed the aspect of the evil corporation being after Lillian which added a bit of danger, suspense, and intrigue to the storyline. The characters were well written and the way in which Lillian and Tristan meet is quite believable. Fate brought them both together for a bigger purpose. I enjoyed how the romance slowly builds between them and the attraction between them grows. This was a beautifully written love story with supernatural elements, mystery, suspense, intrigue, danger, secrets, and lies.

I was really impressed with how this story turned out. I really wasn’t expecting the little things that made this story so different then the fairy tale. I love when authors write their own thoughts on different aspects in their own words when it comes to fairy tales and fantasy. I enjoyed how the author took this a spin it into a steam punk Philadelphia in 1876. I felt like I was really in the story along side these characters, and how each one was woven into the story to make it magical. This book was filled with magic, fantasy, steam punk, realism, and historical facts. This story caught me and wouldn’t let me go till I was done reading it. I couldn’t get enough of the story and kept me on my toes because I kept thinking I was going to know what was going to happen next, but it wasn’t like that, and it really captivated me. This was an amazing read.

Meg and her sister are discussing monsters. With Meg being blind, her sister tried to explain the monsters. This is yet another child involvement story. It talks about our senses as well as being blind. This interaction between the sisters, and the humor makes for a fun story to read. I enjoy reading books by this author. So do my grandchildren. Her stories are easy to follow and fun to experiment with. Open-ended books are the BEST! I look forward to reading more from this author.

Foxy Tails by Natalina Reis was an enjoyable story. I originally picked it up since it had a hint of magic, I was willing to try out the MM fantasy romance genre. When I read that Huli was a nine tailed fox I immediately thought of Naruto, if that is what you expect it is nothing like it besides his need for mischief (which is a common fox trait). I wish that the world building come had been a little stronger. The sexy scenes were very short and brief. I enjoyed that some chapters had a change in perspective between Huli and Xiao so you have a greater understanding of their past and feelings. The connections between the main characters and the evolving story kept me engaged. The ending felt slightly rushed and ended in a major cliffhanger.

This is a fantastic MC story, which really pulled me in right from the start. I loved the story and I loved the characters. Their chemistry was undeniable and only seemed to grow with each page. This book.had everything I like from this kind of story. It was riveting, intense and so well written. This is new author to me and I couldn’t have wanted a better introduction. This is a fantastic story that I would highly recommend.

Another lovely retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk with a science twist to it. I really enjoy the stories by this author they are written well and so engaging for young children and great introduction to some simple science. Jacqueline was a sweet character in the story and it was fun to follow her along on her adventure. There were a few talking points in the story for children along the way.
A Curse of Ash and Iron is an exciting gaslamp fantasy book that draws on fairytales and illusions to build a vibrant and magical world. Ellie and Ben are enjoyable leads!
Ben is skeptical about the magic that has Ellie trapped in a curse. He has devoted himself to studying magic tricks and illusions, dreaming of being a performer, and believes there is a practical explanation for everything. But he is also loyal to Ellie and keen to help her in spite of his reservations. This perspective balances the story as he is wary and critical at every turn.
I love the setting of the Centennial Exposition! It’s such a fun, rich space to explore along with the characters, marvelling with them at the wonders on display. The author describes all settings well, it’s really an immersive read!
For me, this is a five star read. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to all gaslamp fantasy fans, as well as fans of other historical fantasy looking for something new.

Where can I start. I absolutely adore MC romance story’s. The mixture of strong protective men with the element of danger is always a winner for me. This romance is a slow burn which I enjoyed because it gave me the opportunity to get to know the characters in a more deeper way. And with everything that Ava went through it makes sense that Reaper wouldn’t want to rush things or make a move to quick. One thing I did feel a bit strange about is it feels like the second book as Ava and Reaper meet at Axle and Elena’s wedding so maybe we will get their story at a later date. As with all good MC romances our hero has a back story and Reaper is no exception, he has scars from past relationships and keeps his distance from women until he meets Ava. This is one woman he is prepared to protect at all costs. Ava fled to the MC club after her husband abused her. Battered and broken physically, emotionally and mentally she is trying to rebuild her life but her husband is always lurking in the shadows. Is she really save at the MC Club? Will anyone there care if her husband finds her? And why does she feel drawn to and safe when she is with Reaper.

It takes a special kind of writer to craft such a unique and gripping story condensed into a quick read. While it did give me the impression that it was just an opener to a new and bigger world, I thoroughly enjoyed each and every page. The characters were well developed and interesting to read about. I kind of feel like I barely know Belladonna and that there’s SO much more to her story. I anxiously await a sequel and will be one of the first to snag it up.
The first third of the book, in my opinion, I had a hard time differentiating between the stories of the French artist and Japanese artists’ stories. Once I had the story lines straight, I loved how the author intertwines past histories and current relationships to make you keep reading to find out what happens next. I will warn you- there are some tough scenes (physical abuse, kidnapping, etc), but overall, I fell in love with Celia’s story as she navigates a new friendship.
Not usually reading book with ghosts, I liked how I stepped out of my comfort zone and reading a book where a spirit ends up playing a large part of the plot line. I appreciated the French and Spanish phrases being either explained or paraphrased, because they were a nice touch to the story yet I am unfortunately monolinguistic. Overall, the plot moved fast enough, I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Alex, the inventor, is so creative and full of imagination. This story gives such a chuckle. One can imagine filling little plants with helium and going for a ride. Oh, I can remember asking Calgon to take me away. My grandson asked me if we could really take a flying ride with flowers. I could see his little mind churning. I love how this author’s stories help to stir the child’s creative thoughts with her stories. We love reading about Alex’s adventures and look forward to more. The pictures are colorful. The story is perfect for letting your imagination flow and it’s a 5-star book in our house.

This was a book I couldn’t put down. Jacek’s journey was tough and it kept me engaged it in this story until the end. He had to choose between career or family.That’s always a touch one. Well-written, this book takes you to a place that we have never been. It’s an amazing story that just left me wanting more more. I have read each of the author’s books in this series and they are so good. This is just as good. The characters are so uniquely genuine and even based in 17th century, they are relatable. This is a must read if you love historical fiction.

This is another winner in the series. Julia is still working through her issues and now she has to figure out how to work her talents and other items. The writing is strong. The characters are each so unique and I love how they are, because they come from different units and somehow mesh well together even with some mistrust. Julia is strong and has come through so much. I love how she has grown throw the series. The storyline is interesting and grabs you. This really isn’t meant to be a standalone as you may be lost if you try. This author does such a terrific job with her books that you just can’t put them down.

The characters pull you into their world from the first word. They are strong and supportive of each other. There is a little bit of an emotional side to this story as well which made it entertaining to read. There is great growth throughout the story which makes it easy to read. There is alot going on in this story, the author did a great job of keeping me coming back for more. This is a great story that I highly recommend.

I enjoyed this children’s book. This is an author that writes children’s books that are full of learning aspects. They are colorful and engaging pages. This book is no different. A story about a family who is hungry. Instead of letting her family eat the dry cow, Jacquline takes the cow and sells it for three beans. What will Jacquline find when she plants these beans? Will she learn that just because things are brighter on one side but doesn’t mean that things could be brighter on the other. The pages are interactive and your child will easily understand the meaning behind this story. Great story for all children. I highly recommend this book.
This was an interesting retelling of the famous fairy tale. I found it to be a good read. It was well-written with the gay twist or POV. The characters all fit well into the story which helped it flow smooth. It’s an entertaining story if you’re into this genre.

I found this story to be amazing. The writing is such that I dove in. My family wondered if I was ever going to put my phone down. I love dystopian fiction and have since Hunger Games came out. The characters are all so beautifully written. They all have such unique personalities and just mesh so nicely into the story. The length of the book just didn’t matter to me. I devoured it in no time at all. I found it just sneaks a hand right out at the beginning and grabs you right in from the start. I would love to give you a favorite part but this is one book that I truly loved it all. A definite 5 star. If you love dystopian fiction, this is a must read.

This was an interesting tale of romance. A poly romance is usually quite interesting to read because it has many different angles to view it from. This one had a few but I had a little bit of hard time wrapping my head around it. I did find the writing to be interesting. The author writes in such a way as to grab your attention and you do want to continue because you are vested. Watching Dane and Mike go about getting what they wanted and adding to make their family was an adventure, to say the least. The characters are well-written. You can feel their emotion. The plot runs fairly smooth. It’s a good story for those into this genre.
Afflicted Love by Autumn Sand is the first book in the Rhythm Heart Series. This is an M/M Dark romance. The book is raw, real, and heart breaking. Be prepared to run the full gamut of emotions with this one. Kyle and Lyle met as young boys who both came from abusive homes. They became like brothers to one another. But as they got older those feeling evolved into something else. Their story is one of turmoil, struggle, heart ache, lust, desire, betrayal, and so much more. The depth that this story and characters have is truly amazing. This story will truly suck you in. It is steamy and devastating. Not for the faint of heart. Definitely a good read though. 4 out of 5 Stars.

It’s hard separating yourself from your family in order to protect them. This is something Lillian aka Zoey knows all too well as she hides from the Kinetica Organization, which continues to seek her out in order to study and replicate her abilities for their own gain. When Hannah, her sister, becomes gravely ill, Lillian/Zoey will do whatever it takes to help her, even if it means risking herself and letting others know about her gifts.
Is seeing believing? Billionaire and skeptic Tristan King sees her heal a young girl without really realizing what she’s done, though something about her has piqued his interests. The sparks between Lillian/Zoey and Tristan are evident from the start, but will acting on them derail the healing of her sister and his mom? Can she really save their lives by harnessing his energy? Will they ever let their walls down and be able to trust and believe one another?
This is a great paranormal read. Amanda Uhl has a way with words that will pull you into the story, making you completely invested in these characters’ lives. She is definitely going on my author go to pile with amazing books like this. I can’t wait to read more of her work. If you love paranormal romances with suspense, secrets, and great chemistry, then, this is a book for you.

The Hussar’s Duty is book 3 in The Winged Warrior Series. It can be read alone, but you should start with the first book, The Heart of a Hussar. This historical romance is set in 17th century Poland in a time when there where an elite cavalry the Winged Hussars. Griffin passion on the subject, history and time is clearly evident in the narrative in this intriguing story. The characters are fully realised and well written and it is hard not to get drawn into their journey in a time of war. Each page reveals layers of history making it a fascinating read. Jacek is torn between duty and family when he learns of another mission. Griffin’s narrative paints a multi-layered and vivid picture of life and times in this period piece. The story is original and unique.

What Do the Plants Say? Is a picture book that is full of imagination and creativity, talking plants and what’s more our main character can understand them. This is fun story is aimed at young readers aged 8 – 12 years. The illustrations by Janet King are colourful and make the story come alive. Lois once again cleverly inserts science into the children’s books she writes. It allows them to open up their young minds and imagine what it could be like. Alex is one smart cookie and believes that plants can talk. She is able to think outside the square and invent something she believes will help her understand them. Join Alex and her clever mind as she makes some fun and interesting inventions to indulge nature. This is another wonderful story that would make a good present.
