This one was a ton of fun! I have never read this author and I’m so pleased to have been introduced to them! Everything about this story was my kind of thing- i love the supernatural, murders, and adorable protagonists. I think this was just so quirky and wonderful and as soon as I started- I just couldn’t stop! I know the murders are a major part of the story (i mean that’s how Wiley moves to the big supernatural city!) but this story was just so fun and interesting to read. I hope we can get more for other characters. (:

I really enjoyed this one! I loved the representation of all the characters (Iris was a quick fave!)- and I admired all of their depth. They seemed depicted as they were young and some of their character flaws were relatable. I thought the story telling was wonderful and it really kept me excited to read. As soon as I picked this up- I wasn’t able to put it back down! I finished it within the night. This was a lot of fun- and had I known there was a prequel to this, I would have read it first. I think it would clarify a lot of questions I had throughout the book- and it would help with the characters dynamics more (specifically Amy and Dusk!).

This was a really cute read- and how relatable is it when a summer(season, holiday, whatever) you want to go a certain way, doesn’t turn out? I loved all the characters (Noah was my daughters favorite), the creatures, and the world building. I shared this with my daughter and we both had a great time. There were a lot of laughs, gasps, and all the emotions being experienced. Now I’m excited to share more from this author with my kiddo. (;

First off: BEAUTIFUL cover. It really caught my eye and made me excited to read this collection! I feel like short stories can so often be hit or miss but these were fantastic. They were wonderfully written in a way that kept me compelled to keep reading. I enjoyed them all so much- it’s too hard to pick a favorite (it was definitely The Attic! My heart was literally racing)! This is the first I’ve read by this author- and I’m really excited to read more!

This was a FANTASTIC read. I haven’t read this author prior to this book and I couldn’t put it down. It was the most fun I have had reading in awhile. I’m a sucker for stories about inheritances the MC has to work for and this one was not a disappointment! I couldn’t stop laughing and cheering. I loved Gwen, but all the characters were pretty great- and varied! The story kept me hooked and I’m very excited for another one. I just discovered there is a prequel prior to this one- and I am off to read that next! Wonderful book. 10/10

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fun read! I was really intrigued by the premise when I read a description of the book and it didn’t disappoint. The MCs, Noelle and Nikolaus, were cute and the chemistry between them fluctuated to me at times but that could possibly be from their banter. Some of the interactions between their families had me laughing to tears. I’m a big fan of romance that is very spicy and this one was more on the mild side (minus the innuendos.) Despite the mild seasoning, this was a great read and I would enjoy reading more about the Frost and Klaus clans!

I really enjoyed this one! This was a wonderfully written slow burn romance that was a blast to read. I enjoyed Rae and Deans chemistry. The storyline kept me hooked and I read this in practically one sitting. The secondary characters were fleshed out and had some of the best dialogue in the book. I think the author did a fantastic job making the reader feel the vast amount of emotions the MCs experienced. If you’re a fan of slow burn romance- you’ll love this book! I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series. (:

Ahhhhhh! Has anyone read Evil Sushi? That was my favorite read of 2022. It was just so weird and wonderful- I read it in 1 night. This book is absolutely nothing like it (plot and story wise) but it gave me that same feeling that Evil Sushi did! I just could NOT put it down. I loved all the main characters- and it was a joy to tag along on their magical adventures. The central plot with the virus and what not was extremely relatable. This is my first work by the author (how did I skip book 1??) so I’m legitimately about to dash my way to the first book in the series and then sit and pout waiting for more!!

I’m a big fan of thrillers- and psychological ones could be my favorite. This one was pretty great. The idea behind this story isn’t a new one- kinda reminded me of the story of Rumpelstiltskin (if that’s how you spell it). But i love that it’s a modern day telling and I ended up really into the storyline. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it at first- but I ended up really enjoying it! I saw a reviewer describe it as bizarre and I think that’s the perfect word to sum up this book. Bizarre isn’t bad- it just means the book is different!! This was my first read by the author- and I’m eager to try more. This was a solid 4 stars for me!

I’m not sure if y’all can see what I’ve read for my previous years reading challenges but you’d quickly realize I read almost exclusively smut. This had some grad A smut in it. The storyline was a little awkward for me though. I wrote this in another review earlier but it applies here as well: sometimes the writing feels disconnected. If that makes sense? I liked the relationship between the characters (for the most part) and I’m definitely looking forward to reading another book in the series to see how their relationship continues to play out.

I’ve always been a fan of suspense/mystery/and thrillers. I’ve kinda lost interest in the last few years but lately I’ve been giving them a try again and now I remember why they’re so addicting! This was a good thriller. The only real issue I had with the book was the writing seems disconnected sometimes- which could be intentional for the book and I’m just a picky brat- but I’ve never read anything else by the author so I have nothing to compare it too. Other than that(l? Great. Loved the plot. Hated the characters. (In the best way!!) Some suspense/mystery/thrillers are predictable- but this one kept me guessing!

Lucky Stars by Fantasia Yu – Review by Jade Thomson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m a glutton for space, aliens, adventure, and romance. And this really fit the bill. My favorite character had to be Pola. She was just so funny and goofy. I had a hard time empathizing or relating to the FMC but to be fair she IS a princess that lives in outer space. (; I found her journey and the MMC to be so fun and filled with adventure. I ended up enjoying her character a lot more when she was gallivanting with the MMC. I really feel like (MMC) Darin helped break (FMC) Princess Mora out of her shell and helped her to grow from the beginning. Also- he’s so much better than her lame-o fiancée/betrothed. I am hopeful for another installment so the adventures can continue and I can see her develop more. This was a fun read from the author and my first by them! I’m excited they have a few more works I can consume and enjoy. Their writing style was fleshed out and enjoyable to read.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I read some of the reviews before I read it- and I was worried about how dark the story would be- but it was really well written. I didn’t feel like it was dark for the sake of being dark (if that makes any sense?). It was for sure a more creepy, twisty, read than I normally consume but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The characters were very well developed and at times relatable. I had empathy for several of them. The authors writing style was vivid and captivating! Like other reviewers I kind of stumbled my way through the beginning but I’m really glad I gave this book a read. It kept me guessing and excited to continue reading! This was a fantastic start to my first book by this author and I’m eager to read even more! (:

My daughter and I read this together tonight and it was so fun! She’s 4 and enjoyed the pirates vernacular and the BEAUTIFUL illustrations. The story was super cute and easy to read- and the detail on the illustrations was wonderful. I loved the inside cover pattern- and the adorable cover art. Like Half-Pint, my daughter and I both hate to wait. She’s also very excited to go to big kid school too. I’m excited to read more from this author and to find more books with the same illustrator! Very cute. (:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m a pretty big fan of “marriage of convenience” tropes and this one was a lot of fun. I liked the reality TV aspect of it- I haven’t read any other book that used that. It wasn’t a drawn out read- always a win to me! Finn and Abi were both wonderful independently (well sometimes- I’m looking at you Finn!) and they were even better together! The chemistry between them was great- and the development of their relationship was refreshing. I like forced proximity stories (like forced to share one bed kind of thing) and this was satisfying. I’m excited for the rest of the Kings of the Screen series!!

Son of Asmodeus by Barb Jones – Review by Jade Thomson

Son of AsmodeusSon of Asmodeus by Barb Jones

I’m a pretty basic person when I choose books to read- and often solely choose them on the title. This series seemed more serious for me when i chose it and phew- I was wrong. I’m often reminded by good stories and novels why I shouldn’t choose them solely on a title or cover. (I usually choose books with the word mate or love or something equally romantic and gushy.) This was a juicy book- with my favorite supernatural elements: demons, angels, and demon hunters? Oh my! The characters were delicious and complex and just wonderful to read about. There was plenty of action to keep me interested and engaged- once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down! I’m so excited for future developments, not only in the storyline, but with the characters as well! I’m eager for the next in the series.

I love not only reading with the kiddo- but learning with her! I’m excited to find a new author that my baby and I can share books with. She’s 4 and she loved it! (:

Let me start this out by saying I’m not the hugest mafia/bratva fan but PHEW. This author got me changing my mind. I find something incredibly sexy about a scarred up MC- especially when they have more substance than their character revolving around their scars. The chemistry between Adrik and Annika was off the charts. Annika was beautiful and despite being a princess- she was relatable- who doesn’t feel like an outcast every once in awhile? I love the way their story unfolded and I can’t wait to read the rest in the series. I might just give this genre more of a chance! Check it out my friends- it’s definitely worth a read.

UGH. SO FREAKING GOOD. I ADORE Jake and Lily. Their banter? Hilarious. Their chemistry? Off the charts. Once I picked this bad boy up I just couldn’t put it down. The storyline was interesting but the chemistry kept pulling me back in. I love books that alternate the MCs viewpoints- it just gives me a better look into the characters and their development. Also the side characters? I ADORE Sam. I seriously loved this book and would have given it a 10 out of 10 if I wasn’t limited to 5. I’ve never read this author before and Im glad I have now! Check this one out y’all- so cute and so good.

The author has a very lyrical quality in several pieces of work and her use of language was mesmerizing. I happily consider myself a fan and I’m excited to read more of their work. This collection invoked a multitude of feelings and experienced emotions vividly. This really was a beautiful piece of work- check it out my friends. You’ll feel all the feelings- and it’s worth it.

This was the cutest collection of Christmas stories I’ve read! I’ve never been a huge fan of Christmas stories but I really enjoy them in this medium. I enjoyed reading different tales by multiple authors- none which I have read before. The best part of this collection was discovering all their talent! I’ll happily read more works by them- especially if it’s like this one! I’ve worked at several jobs that have tarnished the holiday spirit but this really brought it back for me. I might even put my tree up early this year. Check this deliciously sweet collection out friends!

Happy Halloween my spooky friends and what a wonderful time to read this book! I’m pretty sure this is my first read by this author and I really felt captivated from beginning to end. I’m so excited to delve into other stories from this talented creator! This book really pulled me in and kept me interested until the end- the premise of only having 3 days to find your mate (plus all the other rules) in order to avoid purgatory is a really fun idea. I’m excited to read other works by this author to see what other twists and turns they could put me through because this book really was such fun. I loved the MCs. The cover was drool worthy on it’s own and is most of the reason I picked up this book! Loved it and I’m about to go read some more! Check it out y’all.

Happy Halloween my friends and what a good read this was for it! I’m always a little bummed when I start a new series because I usually wait for multiple books to be out but boy- this was a good one! I LOVED Jaspers character (also cute as hell name!) and She usually kept me laughing too. There were so many cool ideas used in this book that I don’t want to spoil for yall- you’re gonna have to read it for yourself friends! Just know there are some really good twists and turns that makes this book even more worth reading! The only reason I knocked a star off is because it doesn’t let you do half stare and this would have been a 4.5. There were a few places at the beginning that were confusing and seemed that wrong characters were being referenced. Other than that- what an excellent read! I definitely recommend my friends!

LOVED this book! This is my first read by this author and it was ADDICTING. As soon as I started I refused to put it down! I loved how commonplace magical folk are- and the idea of glamor to disguise their true appearance. The mcs, Sin (what a great name) and Rad (adorable with his contractions), were so much fun to read- their chemistry was off the charts and I loved their adventures. I’m a big fan of reading books with the MCs point of view and even more so when it switched between the two of them. I’m so excited I found a new author to read in a genre I love! I’m ready to start the next in the series- check this one out friends! You won’t be disappointed!

Ahhh! We are BACK for the sequel. I really enjoyed this one! I love Makayla- and seeing how she was ostracized from her family was interesting. I was wondering how they would react to her being in the Grave Digger Academy. The inter-academy face off was a fun addition to the series. I enjoyed seeing how much Makayla has grown between the first book to now. I’m also kind of glad no one was transferred out of the school to another one- just because I really love the secondary characters in this series. Makayla is GREAT but they are all so funny! There was so much development in this book that really made me excited for the next in the series. Also how did I just realize this author also wrote Evil Sushi? <- one of the best reads I’ve read in awhile!!!

I haven’t read a good YA book in quite some time and this was a good start! To start: The only reason for 3 stars is because I feel like there was a LOT going on and it was a little clunky trying to connect everything.

Now what i liked: I liked the premise of kids attending magical academies- and the way they discover which academy they have been accepted too was super neat. The staff were interesting with varying personality, and the familiars were super cute. Makayla is your typical teen- mischievous, curious, and loves to break the rules! Thomas might be my favorites of the side characters- he had some of the funniest lines (and who doesn’t love squirrels?) There’s a little bit of drama but nothing too earth shattering. If you like magical academies and a quick read- give this one a read friends!

I will be reading the next for sure!

Did anyone ever read “fanfiction” on quizilla? Exclusively the y/n (your name) stories? This reminded me of those- in kind of a vague way- but it was still entirely nostalgic. I really loved this bite sized read. I finished it entirely too quickly and wish I could read more! I adored the ending- and I hope one day we get another one- or something similar in style! I’m not going to spoil this quick read by giving anything away- it’s so short that even if you don’t have an appreciation for this type of genre- you should read it anyway! Give this memorable story a chance- you won’t regret it!

Okay. This was really cute! I loved getting introduced to the handsome bachelors and seeing a tidbit of all their personality’s. I really loved getting to know Jake though- he had such a sweet side and there were so many highlight-able moments! (I’m one of those weirdos that highlights and leaves comments when I read.) Lauren was pretty fabulous to read too- it’s just that Jake stole my heart! I love how committed he was to finding true romance- not just something easy. Also- the place where they first meet? Such a cool concept. I would love to do something like that! This was such a refreshing book. I can’t wait to read the rest!

I’m a sucker for mafia romance and man was this one a treat! The chemistry between Dom and Leah was off the charts and I’m pretty sure I could physically feel the flames from the sizzle in this book! The secondary characters were nearly as interesting as the mains, probably because some of them have their own books and now I NEED to read those. This is definitely my favorite mafia read of the month and I am so excited to have more to read by this author.

I gotta say, the fake couple trope (I’m sure it has a real name but I’m not sure what it is 😅) is one of my absolute favorites. This royal romance sure packs a punch! It’s got some sweetness, some scandals, some steaminess, and a real connection between the main characters, Philip and Anna. Both of the main characters had so many moments that were relatable- and kept me more interested in finishing the book! It’s so fun to read a story and see the characters grow and develop. This was a wonderful romance that I am glad to have read.
