FIRST, the cover- I am absolutely obsessed. The color scheme is so pretty and the art is lovely. This was a great read that was hard to put down! EmVee was so interesting and multidimensional- she was a great character to watch grow throughout the novel. The story development was incredible- the magic was so wonderfully described and scenes were descriptive enough for me to imagine myself within the pages. I’m glad this was my final read for July because it ended with bang!

I am a big fan of dystopian novels/stories and this was a pretty satisfying one! I enjoyed the events that led to the creation of this world-especially the fact about how it could potentially happen (one of the reasons I Am Legend FREAKS me out)! The character development was really great and flowed naturally-Calums character was fun to follow. I felt like it was really obvious the author was passionate about their work. This is my first from them and I am excited to read more!

Death & Mirrors (All Things Dark & Deadly Book 1) by SF Benson – Review by Jade Thomson

Death & Mirrors: All Things Dark & Deadly, Book OneDeath & Mirrors: All Things Dark & Deadly, Book One by S.F. Benson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a beautiful blend of Alice in Wonderland with necromancy, magick, and darkness. The mystery that is being solved is so intriguing and really kept me on the edge of my seat- I could NOT put this book down. I LOVE Evalines character- she has so much strength and girl power. The idea of the mirror world isn’t new but the authors writing and the characters trials throughout give it a fresh take. Also- name a better villain name then Dr. Death. So many elements of this book were perfectly executed- the interactions of the characters with Evaline, her detective work, the magick, the artifact, the writing- it was all good to be honest! There were times I couldn’t figure out where the story was going to go- and that suspense is my favorite! Definitely give this one a read. 💖

Ahhh! Another lovely addition to the Mermaid Science series. I’ve been really enjoying reading these to my daughter and it has been so much fun to watch her absorb and learn about the magic of science! This is another beautifully illustrated book in the series and might be my daughters favorite so far! She’s 4 and we have now read it together quite a few times. I adore Fig, Maia, and Trezzies adventures!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Aghhhh! No one does dark paranormal romance like this author! I really enjoyed the first Casket Girl book and this one was written just as well- if not better. The characters storylines were so beautifully written and intertwined so well (not to mention that the characters themselves are written amazingly!).

There are so many paranormal elements like witches, demons, and sparks flying through the air. Blood & Vengeance was so incredibly hard to put down- i don’t think I did more than once (as it was the same Blood & Ravens.) I can’t wait for more from this author!

Another great read from this author! I love her work and this book was just amazing. The cover is gorgeous and eye catching- and was what inspired me to read it. (I do often pick books based on covers.) It was beautifully written and the world the author created was fascinating to dive into. I’m a big fan of star crossed lovers and when you throw in a mermaid? Obsessed. There was so much going on- not only with the main characters but the side characters as well. It really was a hard book to put down. I can’t wait to read the rest in this series! If you’ve read books from her before, you will not be disappointed! And if you haven’t- check this one out!

It’s been awhile since i read a book by this author and I honestly can’t remember why it’s been so long? This was a great MC romance filled with fantastic characters, interesting plots, and did I mention swoon worthy bikers? I enjoyed learning about Dwarf- and seeing his relationship with Raven develop was *chefs kiss*. My favorite was the beginning though- i love being captivated in the first few pages and this. Did. That. The second i started it- i couldn’t put it down! I’m excited to read more!

I’m not sure if there’s anything more relatable than Brees initial thought of “never doing something again” because of previous results of said something. This type of romance novel isn’t what I normally read but I really liked this one. Not only was there depth to the MCs- Bree and Nate- but the secondary characters were wonderful as well! The MCs relationship developed so naturally- it was a joy to read and impossible to put down. This was my first book I have read from this author- and I am excited to expand my reading to more of their work! This was a very sweet romance that is sure to squeeze your heart. Glad I read it. (:

OKAY. THIS COVER IS GORGEOUS. Now that we are past the cover- let’s dive into this book. I am no stranger to magic and this story was magic in itself. I LOVED learning about the “faeblood.” I enjoyed watching Ember grow into herself- enjoyed SWOONING after Gavyn- and enjoyed learning about the characters along the way! (Jade is my favorite- but I might be biased because we share the name. (; ) This was a beautiful fantasy and I am EAGER to read more in this series- this was so well written and intriguing! There was enough romance to fulfill the romantic in me and enough adventure to keep me on the EDGE of my seat. Read. This. Book. Y’all. You won’t regret it!

The author really captured me in her introduction and I couldn’t stop from devouring the book. The way these women, and their stories, were written was eloquent and fantastic. I loved the different strengths each woman had- it was really cool learning about them when the original tales made them secondary characters. Growing up I enjoyed learning mythology- especially Greek- and reading these classics from a woman’s point of view was invigorating! Now I want ALL my favorites written from that same point of view- and by this author!

I love when I start a new series and I start with the first book (I always start with the second or later somehow???)- and, sadly for me (because I NEED more!), there’s only one book in the series so far. This was a fast paced romance and I was HOOKED from beginning to end. Both of the main characters were independent and strong people and thoroughly fleshed out. I love their interactions with each other and the side characters too- it made for a more immersive experience. The story taking place in Italy?? Love it. I am obsessed with Morgan and Vandana- their chemistry is explosive. I felt ALL the emotions reading this! If you need a new romance series: check this one out ya’ll!!!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The title really says it all!: “A totally gripping thriller full of twists” and boy was it!! First of all- I loved the characters, they were so fleshed out, with Josie being my favorite. The story really was twisty and kept throwing me through a loop. I’m a big fan of mysteries, especially ones that I can’t figure out before the end, and this one did that for me! Being able to read Josie’s journal and seeing her inner thoughts through that medium made me feel more immersed and interested in the storyline. I HAD to finish this in one reading! I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to read more by this author! One of my favorite reads this month for sure- if you love mysteries give this one a chance!!! (Also- having this take place during COVID just adds another element where you really feel involved- or at least I did!)

Hush, My Darling (Benoit and Dayne Mystery, #2)Hush, My Darling by Winter Austin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One of my favorite things about reading mystery/thriller books is trying to solve it as I go along. Boy- this one was a toughie! The characters are so raw and brilliantly written. I couldn’t decide if Sheriff Benoit was my favorite or Lila Dayne. They were both written so vividly- it was easy to empathize with them. The storyline was fleshed out and had so many twists and turns I had a difficult time putting this book down- even to sleep! I finished this book earlier and I still can’t get it out of my mind. I am officially obsessed with this author and the way they write such haunting stories- I have GOT to read more. This was gripping and definitely worth a read!

I really enjoy getting to read from Jason and Lily’s point of views. It makes the story so immersive and it really kept me from putting the book down. Jason’s character was drool-worthy and Lily is just so sweet and compassionate. This story was so twisted, disturbing, and beautiful. I really enjoyed it and I’m EAGER for the next in the series!!

This book was such a joy to find and share with my daughter! It was educational in a fun cool way. The story was so cute and I loved the characters design. The illustrations are beautiful. My daughter is four and we had a great time learning about tricks and magic. This was such a fun way to introduce some science to her! Every picture we pointed out different colors, counted trees and stripes on shirts, and played games with it. This was such a beautiful read and I’m excited to find more to share with her.

God. What another great hit!

I have always been blown away by the covers on his books and this cover is beautiful. The artwork is gorgeous, the colors, the way everything flows. I’m definitely a “judge a book by its cover girl” and I just couldn’t resist!

I love how descriptive he is, and the hard work and passion he put into this series really comes through. This is another incredible journey that the author took us on, with familiar faces and some interesting new ones. I’m a huge fan of multiverses and reading about different kinds of peoples and cultures- and this really did it for me. Lately I’ve been reading books outside my normal genre and this one is definitely unusual for me. I’ve never given historical romance a chance but I’m really glad I did with this one. The storyline was classic, the characters wholesome (Noah? Awesome. Mary? Brave!), and their story was wonderfully told for a short book! It was a sweet romance and has influenced me to read a couple more. 💖 Even if this isn’t your usual style: the story is short enough that it is still worth a read! And if you enjoy it? This was a really sweet read. It’s definitely out of the norm for me to read this kind of romance but I really enjoyed it. Gina’s character is so emotional to read and Bryce turned out to be wonderful. (I never know what to expect from the book description- if I’ll like the MC or not, but both characters were fleshed out and i loved reading their story) I messed up and read this as the first book in a series (instead of as the third) but I didn’t feel like I was out of place at all. I’m eager that I have a couple more to read now!

First- the Unexplained Crimes Unit? LOVE that addition to the series and especially Det. Alex Creed. There’s so much going on in this series that I’m afraid saying much more would be spoiling the fun for others. All I’m gonna say is Dahlia continues to be a badass- as well as the rest of characters continue to be pretty badass themselves. It’s another mystery worthy of the Nite Fire series and I’m really excited about the next one!!
