A Death on Fools Lane : An Eve Sawyer Mystery

It grabs you from the very beginning and doesn’t let you go. What a well written and enjoyable read.

This was not my first meeting with Eve and it won’t be the last. She finds herself in the middle of these cases and works to provide closure to those left behind.

This time the case is a lot closer to Eve than expected while she, Cassie and Randall are house sitting for Cassie’s Aunt Madison while she goes on a trip. The body is found in Madison’s backyard.

Totally didn’t guess the circumstances for the death and how everything connects and that makes me like the book even more. I live the booked that leave me surprised.

Ms. Suen has not disappointed me while reading her books and doesn’t seem to stick to just one genre which I like. It opens the door to so many different people, including me.

This is the fourth book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series, a short easy read, but not lacking by any means. This is an enjoyable mystery, set around the holidays, containing twists, suspense and the interactive feeling trying to solve it alongside Eve.
Anyone who knows me, knows I adore a good mystery, and I certainly enjoyed how my mind was kept active trying to solve the mystery amidst the twists and this engagement heightening the joy I felt reading this book.
The author’s descriptive writing brings both the setting and the characters to life, making it so easy to step into the world surrounding the characters and being reluctant to rejoin the real world. The details and events come together nicely for the conclusion and the journey to reach it was well-written and enjoyable.
The characters were also well-constructed, Eve especially. Mystery just seems to follow her, and her investigative determination and her empathy won’t allow her to turn away even when it puts her in danger.
A great read, I love forward to the next!

ALTERATIONS TRILOGY: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal Will by Jane Suen – Review by Ayla Phipps

Alterations / Game Changer / Primal Will (Alterations #1-3)Alterations / Game Changer / Primal Will by Jane Suen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

There’s a microchip for that? This is the first work by the creative Jane Suen that I have read, and wow was it a rollercoaster of a place to start. Honestly this book from chapter one had me pondering and completely intrigued. Told from multiple perspectives from start to finish we see the story unravel and the characters evolve.
Gigi, Ellen, and Lilly are all everyday women that have one great desire, be it to stay young, lose weight, find love, or forget the pain of lost love this technothriller takes you on journeys you never knew you needed a peek at. While originally, I was put off by Dr Kite’s introduction, his multi-level price points to make his invention accessible for as many people as possible was a high point. Fake taxicab trolling the city looking for “low risk” people that won’t be missed if gone for a few hours, microchips implanted without their knowledge, and covering up when he finds a defect. Dr Kite is not really a doctor but is a doctor I never knew I needed a look inside his mind. Book one Alterations begins with Gigi on the edge, after her recent upgrade to her chip something is wrong, but what? Book two Game Changer picks up a little over a year after the events of book one, Dr Kite has lost his warehouse, and Ellen soon discovers an alteration to her body, how is it possible? Book three Primal Will picks up in the same moment that book two ends with Tiffany having to make an impossible choice or risk refusing and seeing what happens.
From start to finish the author keeps you engaged, guessing, and intrigued by the plot and how it could possibly come to an end. Is there a happy ending for any of them? Does Dr Kite succeed? How does it all end? While originally confused but intrigued each new chapter, each insight and ultimately each book answered more questions while also adding a few new ones. Seeing how Gigi, Ellen, and Lilly make it to the other side made this a very satisfying Saturday read. I look forward to looking into some of the author’s other works and seeing what mysteries and suspense await me.

I never found myself attracted to this type of book but after reading some books from this author I’ve found myself really enjoying reading novels like this. A Death on Fools Lane is the fourth book in this cozy mystery series, but the second book I’ve read in this series. I read book one along with this one, skipping two, and three, and have realized that they don’t need to be read in any particular order. I enjoyed this one like I enjoyed the first. Book four reads so much smoother and was easier to follow. A Death on Fools Lane kept my attention and was such a quick read, the author packed a lot into one short book.

I definitely had a lot of questions and silly comments throughout the series. I found myself talking to the characters and shaking my head and laughing a few times too. I loved getting to see how things progressed for each character and how good reigned in the end. I’m glad I got to read this series.

This trilogy is made even scarier by how realistic it could be! I could definitely see this being a reality in the very near future. I read another book recently by this same author and find their writing style easy to read. I like the way the story moved along so that it was not hard to follow and jumped right in. I definitely recommend having all three books ready because it leaves you on a cliffhanger for each book. I really love all three main characters in the books but especially Gigi’s character. I finished this series in two days because it was so intriguing. I will definitely be reading more from this author very soon!

A Death on Fools Lane (Eve Sawyer Mystery #4)A Death on Fools Lane by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is the fourth in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. I read it alone without reading the prior 3. I was able to follow along with the story, but would like to read the first books for more background into the characters. In this story, Eve and her friends look forward to a winter vacation but it’s interrupted by a potential murder (or was it a suicide?) at the house where they’re staying. Eve tries to solve the mystery. I liked this book. I enjoyed the characters. I love that a dog was the one who discovered the body – it adds a unique touch to the book. I appreciate the length of the book. It was long enough to include relevant details, but also short enough to follow the mystery from beginning to end without days of reading. I recommend this book for those interested in mystery novels, especially if they have read any of the other Eve Sawyer Mystery books.

A Death on Fools Lane (Eve Sawyer Mystery #4)A Death on Fools Lane by Jane Suen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Eve Sawyer, amateur sleuth and journalist, is back again in a winter mystery. When she and friend Randall are invited by mutual friend Cassidy to housesit at her aunt’s, Eve is excited for a chance to rest and relax!

Things are afoot very quickly when they are woken by police knocking on the door after they found a body hanging from a tree nearby. Was it a case of suicide or murder? Eve normally likes to investigate and get to the root of the problem in the cases she takes on anyway, but when Mead’s mother begs her to find the truth of what happened, she can’t resist.

Will Eve be able to answer the questions his mother is asking? How many people are holding on to secrets they’d do anything to protect? Will she be able to keep herself safe as she begins digging deeper?

Another quick read I couldn’t put down. Eve is a wonderful main character, always asking questions and listening to people when they speak. Intrigue, mystery, secrets, and unfortunately for Eve, not much in the name of relaxing. Another great Eve Sawyer book!

A Death on Fools Lane (Eve Sawyer Mystery #4)A Death on Fools Lane by Jane Suen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Death on Fool’s Lane is Book Four in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. It is a cozy mystery with action, suspense, drama, intrigue, secrets, lies, and crime. Although it could possibly be read as a standalone, I do highly recommend reading the first books in the series because they introduce you to the FMC and give her backstory. The story centers around the character of Eve Sawyer who is a college journalism student with the uncanny ability to find a good story. I love the character of Eve and was drawn to her in the first book in this series. She is smart, feisty, determined, strong, and brave. Eve is also a bit of an amateur sleuth who enjoys tracking clues and solving mysteries that may otherwise go unsolved. When Eve and her friends decided to spend the Christmas holidays together house-sitting for her friend Cassie’s aunt the last thing, they expected was to be awakened to the police knocking at the door. As they soon discover a retired police detective and his retired cadaver dog have discovered a dead man hanging from the tree in the backyard of Cassie’s aunt’s house. Now Eve and her friends must determine who this man is and why he is there. They must also try to figure out if this man’s death was a murder or a suicide. As they try to unravel the clues, they discover that someone is not keen on the mystery being solved and danger lurks around every corner for Eve and her friends. The ensuing investigation takes some twists and turns that kept me guessing and that grabbed my attention until the very end. I highly recommend this book!

What was supposed to be a peaceful holiday vacation with friends quickly turned for the worse. Eve and her friends become wrapped in the middle of a death investigation to help save someone as a person of interest and find the killer so Mead can rest in peace. This book had me guessing who the killer was or if it was suicide throughout the whole book and was captivating. If you are looking for a light, easy reading mystery book, this is it!

Who doesn’t love a mystery that takes place at Christmas time? Eve Sawyer, journalism student, is fun character to follow – she is just nosy enough to get involved in a murder investigation. As Eve investigates a suicide, she finds that it might just be a murder. I kept the pages turning as I wanted to see what she finds out, all the way until the end. This is a get cozy on your couch with a blanket and beverage and be ready to read until the end.

Alterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal WillAlterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal Will by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This really was a trilogy of thought provoking sci-fi thrillers, which kept me gripped throughout. I loved having all three books in one collection as I could then ‘binge read’ the series! The intriguing storyline follows Gigi, Ellen and Lilly who all want to change their lives in some way and so take the drastic decision to go to Dr Kite. He has developed a mind controlling chip which the three women agree to have implanted, however although this gives them an easy and quick fix it comes with consequences. Gigi, Ellen, and Lilly were prepared to risk everything for love, health, and happiness, and Dr Kite’s novel chip implant offers them a mind controlling solution. However, Dr Kite is a secretive figure and when the city is plunged into chaos by unforeseen issues his warehouse is destroyed. It is then discovered that two of the implanted chips are defective and suddenly his plans go horribly wrong. In the aftermath of the disaster one of the woman seeks revenge for Dr Kite’s failings, but she may also have found an opportunity to save herself. I was hooked from start to finish by this original story, and was kept happily turning the pages to find out if Gigi, Ellen, and Lilly get their happily ever after. The characters and the setting were brought vividly to life by the descriptive narrative and I was fully immersed in the story.

Fantastic cozy mystery that was a quick and easy read and very enjoyable. Mystery, suspense and a few twists and turns I did not see coming…and I love that about this story.

Eve Sawyer is back and on holiday break from college looking forward to spending time with her mom and her friends. When Eve’s friend, Cassidy, is house sitting for her aunt..she invites Eve and their friend Randall to join in for a mini away from home holiday vacation. Nothing can spoil this fun time away, except when a retired cop and his retired cadaver dog stumble upon a body hanging from a tree in the back yard of Cassidy aunt’s house that she is house sitting for. So many fingers pointing in different directions on whom may be responsible for the death of a man….Eve Sawyer vows to find out whom killed this individual…..

Will Eve find out and solve this case or will the person who may have been involved never be caught….definitely read and find out.

This is the 4th book in the Eve Sawyer series. Each one can be read as a standalone, however if you like cosy Mysteries then this series is definately for you. The author’s writing is really good and the twist and turns in the story will keep you guessing and reading until the end to find out what actually happens.

In this story we are back with Eve as her and her friends plan on housesitting during their winter break. It was supposed to be a relaxing break away. However things take a sudden change when a man is found dead in the back garden of the house they are watching.
At first glance it seems just a sad case of suicide but after speaking to the deceased mother Eve isn’t convinced. Was this a suicide or was it murder?
Now Eve and her friends try to solve this case to determine once and for all what has happened and who if anyone is responsible.

This is a fast paced read with twists and turns and secrets to be revealed. As Eve tries to solve this case will she be putting herself in danger by looking in places she shouldn’t be looking?

An amazing set of dystopian type books about fixing what we view as our body issues. A totally creepy Dr. Kite wants to help women fix their issues. The books build on the previous stories and it’s great that they now come together. I found them exciting and thrilling just because of the creepy factor. The characters are easy to relate to. We all have these issues being dealt with and look for easy fixes. This author did a fantastic job with this story. I couldn’t put it down.

Flanks the line between fantasy and reality
This trilogy was fascinating. As always this author delivers a brilliant suspense thriller mystery. Gigi, Ellen and Lilly along with Dr. Kite bring their POV to the story. Micro chips delivering dreams or false hopes. It took a little while for the story to take off and once it did I was hooked until the end. The character’s stories are interwoven well and the suspense built across the books, so it is worth reading them in order. Recommend.

Intriguing, suspenseful and interesting sci fi trilogy that was quite enjoyable. This is a perfect box set and the books are meant to be read as a series and definitely not a stand alone.

This series of events from the books has Dr. Kite offering an implant to help and where we meet
Gigi, Lilly and Ellen. This implants alters/changes they way they see them-self. Ellen is trying desperately to lose weight and feel good about herself, Gigi is looking for love and Lilly trying to get through her feelings from a divorce. With Dr. Kite’s game changing offer….will this help Ellen, Lilly and Gigi….until he finds out there is some defects in the microchips…

As the story continues in book 2, the ladies try and move on with their life, making sense of it all. You get more from Lilly, Gigi and Ellen as they navigate their next steps…..what is Dr. Kite up to next…..and the epic conclusion in book 3 find out what happens to the end……definitely a roller coaster ride of twists and turns ………

Great trilogy and highly recommended!

A Death on Fools Lane is the fourth book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. I have not read the previous three books and was able to read it as a standalone without any prior knowledge of what the other books were about. I enjoyed that this was a lighter, fast read and that it is set between Christmas and New Years so you get a slightly festive feel from it as well. When Eve and her friends take up a house sitting job over the holidays, they think it will be just the get away they all need…until a body shows up in the yard. Every time I thought I had the murderer pinpointed, more details emerged so it kept me turning the pages. If you are looking for a fast holiday or stay-cation read, this is definitely something to check out.

This set includes all three books in the trilogy: Alteration, Game Changer, and Primal Will. I liked the concept of this dystopian, sci-fi series; however, there were times where I found myself lost and having to go back and re-read. I also felt like Suen jumped around sometimes causing the reader to question themselves. But overall I enjoyed the suspense and mystery of the books and I would recommend them. I would suggest reading them in order and going ahead and getting the set because you are going to want to start the next book as soon as you finish.

I literally yelled “What?!?!?” Out loud at 1130 at night in the final section of this trilogy.
This is a very fast paced book, you have to enjoy quick plot development and many POV changes to truly enjoy this series as otherwise it may be too abrupt for some. I felt it was Brilliant!

This is book #4 in the series and while I didn’t feel too lost not having read the previous books I highly recommend that you do , you’re doing yourself , the author and the characters an injustice by not doing so 🥰📚

We start off by meeting Max and Rodriquez .These 2 share a special bond and they worked together in the police police force , they’re now enjoying their retirement. Max is a German Shepherd , clever and well trained as a sniffer and cadaver dog . Rodriquez was his handler . On their morning walk Max makes a shocking discovery…..

Cassie and friends head out to house sit for her aunt on Fools Lane in Briar Hills , what can happen , it’s a small town with a low crime rate but remember all is not as it seems ….especially when you get woken up to police knocking at your door🤫🧐🤨and then the grizzly discovery in the back yard 🫣

It would seem the man who died knew Cassie’s aunt and he has a sad story but they shared a special friendship , it really made me sad reading this and I just wanted justice for dear Mead and his mum 😢

Madison surprised me I’ll be honest , I didn’t see that one coming and there was more to follow , death has never been so sad for me ….

P.S. Max and Rodriquez also got the praise they deserve , thank you for your service 🐾🥰

This Time Around Audiobook by Jane Suen – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

Katie and Chase were high school sweethearts and seemed destined to be together forever. However, after graduating high school they ended up splitting up, and Katie went to the big city to follow her dreams. Chase did eventually leave himself, but went back to be closer to his brother. When his brother and sister-in-law tragically perished in an accident he became the guardian of his nephew. Now a decade has passed by and Chase’s cousin is getting married. He and Katie are about to be thrown together by his match making cousin and the results could either be disaterous, or turn into a reconciliation. The lead characters in this book were very likeable, and the narrators did an amazing job bringing them to life. I do wish the story had been a bit longer, but I was very happy with how everything turned out for Chase and Katie. This was definitely worth the listen.

Omg how adorable!! Such a great story! It’s not a long book, but that’s what makes it perfect. It’s like a movie. Romance in a little town with an adorable family setting, and the perfect little kid to round out the story. Read this book if you like happily ever afters, kindness, joy, and small towns.

This Time Around Audiobook by Jane Suen – Review by Anastasia Dodson

This was a quick read and i enjoyed it. It was a aweet clean romance that i spend my afternoon listening to. The narrators are great! They worked well together and i enjoyed the alternating povs. Chase and Kate were high school sweethearts and things between them didn’t end on the best of terms. Years after they parted ways they’re pushed together as each others plus ones at a friends wedding. Even though its been years, there is still tension and hurt feelings between them but when they start to look closer, that also realise there is still love there too. I enjoyed this book even though it was a clean(er) romance than i normally read. I thought the author did a great job with this story and the narrators did an great job bringing this story to life. I will be listening to more by this author in the future!
Happy Listening!

This Time Around Audiobook by Jane Suen – Review by Laura Jones

I enjoyed listening to this book and found it a more wholesome and refreshing story line. I liked the fact that it didn’t have an in depth sex scene as those make me uncomfortable. But I do enjoy a good love story and this one was one I could picture being the next Hallmark movie. I found the characters to be endearing and loved how important family was to the main characters. One of the best parts was when Katie finally realized what was most important to her and she stood up for herself against her BFH. Well written, and quite enjoyable!

A Death on Fools Lane (Eve Sawyer Mystery #4)A Death on Fools Lane by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Death on Fools Lane is the fourth book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. It’s loosely a festive murder mystery, set between Christmas and New Years, but can be enjoyed any time of year! It can be read as a standalone but is a nice continuation of the series, with the return of some familiar characters.

Eve and her friends have taken on what seems to be a simple bit of housesitting during the holidays. It’s a chance to get away and have some time together. But, of course, there’s a body in the yard, so now there’s a murder (or suicide?) to investigate.

Eve makes a good investigator. Her strength is her ability to communicate with people, making them comfortable enough to share with her. This means she gets into the personal stories behind the victim and those connected to him, picking up on clues to what’s been going on.

It’s an entertaining mystery! Even near the end I wasn’t sure what had actually happened, until we got the final clue. This story will keep you turning the pages!

A Death on Fools Lane gets four stars from me. I’d recommend it to mystery fans, particularly if you’re looking for a good Betwixtmas read!
