Four Stars

Full Glasses and Burju Shoes is a military romance by Blake Blessing. This is the first book I have read by Blake Blessing, but definitely won’t be the last. This book hooked me from the very first page and I couldn’t put it down until I read the last. This book is so filled with emotions, love, despair, happiness and bitterness. It had me laughing one minute and reaching for a tissue the next. Perrin and Emil are such an intriguing couple as they are complete opposites. I enjoyed the conversations between the two and how they learned to communicate together. The PTSD aspect was handled well and the all around story was smoothly written. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from Blake Blessing.

This story has me in my feelings. It’s so true it hurts. I soldiers come home and are just let go. Therapy should be mandatory not a choice. The things they have to put up with is traumatic. They need help adjusting to the day to day life. Emil needs help but he was just too scared to get it. He has experienced so much loss and pain that when the rage started he should have known it was a bad sign. Perrin had so much joy and life. Her energy was contagious. The author put two unlikely people together and created a bond that was strong. A bond based on friendship and need. Perrin is sunshine in a dark world of IEDs and death.

I have to say that I was impressed with Perilous Confessions by Carrie Dalby. I went in blindly, not knowing what to expect with this story. I am glad that I did it this way, because I got a storyline with well developed characters. I loved seeing both Lucy’s and Alex’s story, how they grew individually and where their journey took them. It was definitely a refreshing book, one that I enjoyed and look forward to seeing more from this series. It was a 4 Star book for me!

Reading in verse takes some getting used to. But it was a different form of writing that had me taking notice. Every verse flowed together and made this story intriguing. This is the first book I have ever read like this and it won’t be my last. I found myself forgetting the food on the stove because the author weaved a story filled with poetic darkness. Evangeline is at a point were she has to choose to live for herself and destroy people’s lives. Or go back to being everyone’s shadow. She tasted that dark and dangerous life by the hands of a real bad boy. He didn’t play nice and he didn’t want to hear no. Landon is like your favorite sweet or wine. You know you shouldn’t indulge too much but the addiction is too strong to resist. I believe the story was better because it was different. I think this is a turning point for writing styles. The author took a leap off a cliff putting this story in verse. I think the author will land beautifully once people really dig into this style.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the series and the third book I have read by McKinley. What a great continuation for this series! So many questions answered from book 2 but even more to make us wonder what will happen to this crew next!

McKinley has written another story about the guys and girls that make up the Gray Ghost group. This story is a great adventure of who to trust, who to believe and how to stay alive. Hannah is a tough woman. She knows what she is doing and how to get the job done. But McKinley helps us to believe that Hannah may not be the good guy. This story is well worth the read but you really should start with book one so that you know the other characters stories.

Perilous Confessions (The Possession Chronicles Book 1)Perilous Confessions by Carrie Dalby
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Carrie Dalby’s Perilous Confessions is the first book of the Possession Chronicles. This gothic romance was a style that I had not previously read, but at the same time, was a refreshing view of a different take on romance outside of what is available mainstream. The author provided excellent detail to touch on the historical aspects of the story, while still holding on to some of those items you always look for in romance stories – intrigue, raw emotion, passion, longing… Lucy and Alexander are captivating characters. Lucy, an aspiring author and Alexander, striving to break free – their story is just waiting to unfold along with all the twists and turns that are included. I would recommend this story/series to anyone willing to take a step outside the traditional romance, it is notable and definitely worth the read!

An Italian Adventure (The Italian Saga, #1)An Italian Adventure by Gaia B. Amman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

An extremely detailed story about a young group of friends and the things they go through. It’s watching a “tomboy” struggle with gender normatives and figuring out what life and family is all about.

There are some very funny observations in this story ” …the priest in charge most of the time turned the wine into the blood of Jesus and then the host -a thin, white wafer- into his flesh in front it everyone’s eyes. Yet grown ups don’t believe in monsters.”  But over all it didn’t move quick enough to hold my attention and I wasn’t sure where it was all headed.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I always appreciate anyone putting pen to paper. This book was just not my cup of tea.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not So Broken, by Renee Regent, is the first book of the Love Grows series. This story is a contemporary romance that brings together two unlikely individuals who each have their own secrets. Set in Georgia, the author provides all those details to showcase the difference between small town and big city living. The main/lead characters, Gibson and Sacha, are irrevocably drawn to one another. The hurdles that they each have to maneuver gives great depth to each of them. The supporting cast of characters add additional light to the story. Both Gibson and Sacha show emotional growth as the story progresses. The method in which Renee Regent has these characters work through their struggles was well thought out. I look forward to read future books by this author.

Caught in the Spin, the Caught series book 2, by Sharleen Scott continues the romantic suspense theme experience from the first book in the series. In Caught in the Spin, we follow Tallie in her story amidst the drama, danger, action, and more. This story was enthralling and I could not put it down until I finished. Sharleen Scott has a way with her writing that delves into the story in such a way that makes the characters unforgettable – they may have flaws, but there are redeeming or aspiring qualities within them that make them shine. 4 Stars!!!!

What can I say but wow. This book is the dark side of Fifty Shades and I wasn’t disappointed. I found the author’s writing style to be very unique. The author is new to me and I was very impressed. The darkness of this book just really grabbed me from the start. I was sucked into the world created and couldn’t put this book down.

I found Evangeline’s character unique and I could relate to her in a way. I was drawn into the situation with Landon. I could feel my heart breaking for her when her whole world comes down. I have to say that this author really hit on a big fantasy that some woman have and also highlights the downside and dark side of it. The forbidden lust and the secrets that it leads to wind up really effecting her life and I found myself in her place as it all comes to a head. It really was a well written book and I really enjoyed its format as it was new and refreshing. I would like to read more from this author in the future.

After reading and loving the first two books in this series I was really excited to see where the author would go with the third book. It was as I expected just as action packed, just as exciting and just as great to read as the first two. The mystery and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through and the storyline kept me gripped from beginning to end. I really liked Hannah and Jack and their story was one that had me intrigued. I loved trying to guess what was going to happen. I instantly felt a connection with Hannah, she was a great independent person who has dealt with some things in her past – but I feel that these things have helped her become the woman she is today. I was really rooting for her and Jack from the very start!
Beneath the Surface was a fantastic read with some great moments that I definitely didn’t expect! I 100% recommend it and the rest of the books in the series! I look forward to reading more from this author again in the future!

Bound (The Torzial Affair Book 2)
By: Via Mari
5 out of 5 stars

The story Bound (The Torzial Affair Book 2) by Via Mari is the next amazing book in a series that I would call romantic, steamy, and intense. I would recommend reading this series in order as situations from the first book to the second continue and characters overlap. It makes for a better understanding of what is going on. This story has Jenny and Brian’s romance and exploration of each other progressing. While there is a connection and chemistry that is felt, there are also times when conclusions are jumped to and doubts about trust occur. They are also having to deal with those who want to convict Jenny of the murder of her ex and other forces that are dangerous. Jenny is such a feisty and intelligent woman. She does, however, feel that her life is being turned upside down and spinning out of control. Brian is determined to protect Jenny. He is also dealing with strong emotions and feelings that include jealousy. New threats quickly appear and seem to never end. Read this book to find what happens. This story does have plenty of steamy scenes and dirty talking. There are times when situations arise that I wondered how much this couple will have to go through. There are times of danger and threats that have me wondering what is going to happen next. I enjoyed reading about the part that the additional characters play in the story. Many of them are familiar from the first book and are ones that Jenny and Brian can trust. Others have their own agenda and plans. Can they be stopped? Don’t miss out on the next exciting and steamy book in a series that I highly recommend reading. I can’t wait to read the next story.

Beneath the Surface (Gray Ghost #3)Beneath the Surface by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beneath the Surface is the third installment in the Gray Ghost series by author Amy McKinley. This story centers on Russian sleeper agent Hannah Miller and Gray Ghost member Jack Davis. Hannah finds herself activated while on a secret mission with an American intelligence agency, her plane has been hijacked and the Gray Ghost team, with Hannah’s ex, Jack, are on their way to rescue the crash survivors. Not everything is as it seems and Hannah along with Jack need to find out what is really going on.
I’ll start by saying that I read the first book but not the second in this excellent series and while I didn’t feel lost, I will be going back to read Chris’s story. Onward now…I LOVED this book! I LOVE this series! This series has everything from edge of your seat adventure to steamy romance. It will keep you guessing until the very last chapter and rooting for these two characters who have such sad baggage that you can’t help feeling for everything they go through. The author does a good job filling in the back stories on Hannah and Jack through use of flashbacks that do not hinder the flow of the story. Amy McKinley is quickly becoming a must-read author for me and I am looking forward to more stories in the Gray Ghost universe.

The Shape of Trust was a fantastic read! I have read all but one of the books in this series and each one I have absolutely loved. From the very first page until the last I am lost in the story and characters that this wonderful author has created. As with the other books in this series I fell in love with the characters almost instantly – there is just something about them, they are always genuine and down to earth and you just want to keep reading about them. I really liked Lily; she had that quirky quality that I have come to love from this author’s characters. I loved her determination in life and I really wanted her to succeed in everything she wanted.
I liked Webb and thought that he and Lily did have this great connection. I admired Webb for turning his life around and how he dealt with the unexpected news of a daughter that he never knew he had.

OMG I love these books and this author…It was also fun with this book running along side Eye of The Storm, I’ve not read many books that have done this and it was kind of fun…well fun in that they are at the same time but not so fun in the storyline. WOW…this one was awesome…I love all of them and can not pick a favorite but this one knocked my socks off…I was so looking forward to more about Hannah after reading Eye of The Storm and I absolutely got what I wanted in this book. I usually do not like flashbacks but the way this author handled them in this story first off made them mandatory and the way it was handled flowed perfectly.

I love how these books take the twists and turns to a new level and there is always a lot of them…I love this, and I Loved the way this storyline played out. Jack standing by refusing to leave Hannah behind even when all the evidence pointed straight at her as being guilty.

Not going into any more of the storyline, I just know that my heart broke many times as stories came out about Hannah’s past and I had so much respect for Jack in this story.

Im praying there is a lot more to come for the Gray Ghost team and I also know that I’ll be rereading this series many times 🙂

Loved It!!

The Shape of Trust by Brinda Berry
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This is my kind of book, it is sexy but mostly has story and build up. This story made my heart ache and smile at the same time. All of the characters are fantastic and very well written.

Webb is a great man, he is wealthy and accomplished but has his fair share of demons. When his daughter is thrust into his life unexpectedly he is freaked out but I think it started a change in him. He suddenly becomes very protective of her and Lily and having her in his life has stirred up emotions he didn’t think he would have.

Lily, bless her heart, is trying her best to make the crappy life she has work for her and her siblings, on top of that she has her own secrets she tries to keep away from the ones she loves, namely Webb. She is fiercely protective of her younger brother and sister as her mom can’t be bothered to care for them herself. Her older brother is in some hot water with drugs and keeps bringing his issues around his siblings which in turn puts them in danger and that really makes Lily’s blood boil. Lily wants to forget her messed up life and be in Webb’s pretty world but their two worlds eventually have to collide.

Overall a fantastic book, I wish it was longer, but I guess that is how anyone would feel with a book they enjoy! The ending is perfect and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves romance and drama.

Via Mari lives in the Midwest with her husband and their loveable fur baby. As a child who was raised in both the United States and the United Kingdom, she spent countless hours traveling and developed a passion for the written word at a young age.

She is an avid reader of romance. In fact, you can still find her curled up in an overstuffed chair, especially during winter when the wood fire is crackling and popping, reading a page-turning novel until the early hours of the morning.

As she began researching and writing love scenes for her own series, it became apparent there seemed to be a cultural divide between what people believed was normal sexual behavior, or vanilla, and that which people considered BDSM. She enjoys creating characters and scenes that allow the reader to safely explore what they would and would not be willing to try.

Perilous Confessions (The Possession Chronicles book 1) by Carrie Dalby – Review by Melissa Agena

Perilous Confessions (The Possession Chronicles Book 1)Perilous Confessions by Carrie Dalby
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this book and fell in love with this story! Perilous Confessions is book 1 in The Possession Chronicles by Carrie Dalby. This book is one that I would put down as a classic and re-read must! I loved this era because no one really writes from this era, which makes it unique. Not only does this era make this story amazing but adding the fact that they are in the South, which adds more of a scandalous tale. This book is set in the very late 1890 or very early 1900’s and follows Lucy Easton, an author who aspires to be published one day. She is very desperate to become published and will try and work her way into the publishing world. Then she comes across Alexander Melling, a young lawyer, who is captivated with Lucy and over time became very entranced by her. Lucy on the other hand has been warned off of Alexander by her brother. However, Lucy didn’t scare so easily and fell to her attraction to him. Alexander promised Lucy realism to her writing and with that came secretive interludes. Hot, heavy and steamy interludes. I love this author’s writing style. It’s very captivating and surprisingly easy to read. I was surprised because it wasn’t what I expected but I’m sure glad that I read it! I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone regardless of whether or not you read historical books.

THE ASH PARK SERIES STARTS HERE…

Edward Petrosky joined the Ash Park police force with two goals in mind: escape the military and silence the demons that followed him home from the war. And no one soothes those traumas better than his fiancé, Heather—he doesn’t even mind that she has a checkered past of her own.

But his dreams are obliterated when one night, on a routine call, Ed stumbles upon a scene as horrifying as any he’s seen in combat: Heather’s bloody body, half-buried in the snow. Though his superiors order him to stay away from the investigation, Ed can’t help but notice the inconsistencies in Heather’s case—her supposed cause of death doesn’t mesh with what she’s told him about her past.

When another body turns up, Ed realizes that Heather’s murder wasn’t an isolated act of violence; this new victim was connected to the same shelter where Heather volunteered and attended the same church where a kindly priest seems to know more about the murders than he should. And the detectives working the case seem indifferent to these links despite being no closer to finding Heather’s killer.

Now Ed must choose whether to play by the rules or sacrifice his career to seek justice for the woman he was supposed to spend his life with. One thing’s for certain: Ed can’t go down without a fight, because Ed isn’t the only one seeking vengeance.

And in Ash Park, the innocents aren’t always who they appear to be.

Chilling, and as twisted as you’ve come to expect from Meghan O’Flynn, Salvation will keep you glued to the pages. If you like James Patterson’s Alex Cross series, Tana French’s Murder Squad series, or Vargus and McBain’s Violet Darger FBI thrillers, you’ll love Ash Park.

The Monster’s Lover (The Fenris Series Book 1) by Samantha MacLeod – Review by Bobbi Wagner

The Monster's LoverThe Monster’s Lover by Samantha MacLeod
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It is fast reading, easy flowing and I read it in one sitting. It is about Sol who meets a mystery man in the woods one day who legend claims him to be a demon of sorts. Her problem is whether or not to trust him and her days are getting numbered with the King. Is it possible that this man can save her? I loved both characters Sol and Fenris. They are strong and their attraction for each other, wow! I can’t wait to read the next book! I highly recommend this book.

The Monster’s Lover (The Fenris Series Book 1) by Samantha MacLeod – Review by Heather Lovelace

The Monster's LoverThe Monster’s Lover by Samantha MacLeod
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book may be shorter in length than others. But it certainly is jam packed with detail! The author does a beautiful job weaving this tale around classic Norse mythological figures. I was immediately transported by the author into the universe she created when I began reading. I found the writing to be effortless, rich, and full. This was the first book from this author I read and I look forward to reading more.
