Salty Sebastian (Smirk Series book 3) by Jen Luerssen – Review by Lisa Helmick

Salty SebastianSalty Sebastian by Jen Luerssen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sebastian has always come off as a more mature person than his friends. So i was curious to see inside and what makes him tick. We get to see another side and see why he enjoys his friends and their ridiculous teasing and banter. I really love Sebass (to quote Mikey) he is such a great character. Romantic, Straight laced, calm (unless drinking) and honest (which i loved about him) plus he is more mature so he doesn’t do all his thinking with his emotions. I was worried early on with all the hot and cold he and Kit were showering each other with but I understood it all later. Kit fits in seamlessly with this group of crazy characters. She is outspoken, brash and has a good head on her shoulders. The more I got to know her the more I liked her.

As for secondary characters. I really can’t say enough and think enough about Sig and Peyton! They are the BEST! Sure it was nice to see Lia (with her made up names), Frank (grumpy), Mikey (outrageousness), Joe and the Crew. I love seeing them together but in this one Sig and Peyton take home the trophy.

The author continues the wonderful strategy of having the characters tell the story as well as talk to me…the reader. It’s a perfect combination. While this is the third in the series you can easily read it as a stand alone. The story was surprising, which I love, and fun filled. How can it not be with this crew!

I honestly absolutely love this author! Her books never fail to entertain me and I always fall completely in love with the characters she creates – obviously Salty Sebastian was no exception! I loved every second of it! Second chance romance stories are amongst some of my favourite stories to read and this was a perfect example of why I love them! Kit and Sebastian’s first meeting was hot, heavy and VERY steamy but what I loved the most was that even after a few years apart the connection that they found that night was still there! I was definitely rooting for them the whole way through. The dynamic of the relationship may be different this time but I could tell there was something still there between them! I really liked the little twist to Kit’s story too!
I was hooked by this book from beginning to end – the authors writing pulled me in straight away! I am really excited to read more from her again in the future and I 100% recommend Salty Sebastian as a fantastic 5 star read!

Salty Sebastian by Jen Luerssen is the third book in the Smirk series. This book can be read as a stand-alone however this whole series is worth reading.
As with the previous books in the series even the blurb had me laughing. It gave me such a good sense as to what this character would be like. It really whetted my appetite for the story I was about to delve into, and it did not disappoint in any way.
This was laugh out loud funny with an interesting story to go along with it. The characters were absolute gems that I thoroughly enjoyed reading about. I really became invested in them.
Of all the books on the series I think this one so far has to be my favourite. I loved Sebastian and I thought that he worked so well with Kit. This book also had some of my favourite scenes in it. This is not only a five star book but a five star series!!!

Salty Sebastian by Jen Luerssen a four-star read that will add a little sugar to your life. This is number three in the smirk series, they could be read as stand-alone, but they do have characters popping up in each other’s stories, but they interact in a great way that doesn’t spoil it. This is one of those laugh out loud stories and you will giggle like a loon when you read it. That being said its not just funny, its romantic as well, Kit and Sebastian will pull you in and take you on a trip to Vegas and then going all over again.

Salty Sebastian is book three in the Smirk Series by Jen Luerssen. Just reading the blurb was hilarious and I had to read this story asap. I haven’t been so excited to get to know a character in a long time. I knew Sebastian would be the ultimate in reading pleasure. And i wasn’t wrong.

Jen Luerssen spun a riveting tale. A delicious tale. An unputdownable tale. An unforgettable tale. From the first word to the last, I was hooked. Salty Sebastian had it all and I loved it all. The characters were varied and delightful. The essence of the story was sublime. A top quality story that was easy to read and was blissfully entertaining. 5 stars.

Salty Sebastian (Smirk Series book 3) by Jen Luerssen is a contemporary romance/comedy that will knock your socks off. If you haven’t read a book by this author, you are absolutely in for a treat and this particularly story is a deliciously salty addition. The characters in this story overlap with ones that appeared earlier in the series. However, you can read this as a stand alone. The characters are a riot, highly entertaining and will constantly have you wondering what is going to fall out of their mouths next. Sebastian is an amazing and I just wanted to hug him in half of this story, then Kit is just a spicy addition that makes you want to lather them up together to find out what kind of combination you get with them. Hilarious, great writing and will having you laughing throughout!

What a story. Meeting in Vegas and never exchanging real names, these two meet again 2 years later. Sparks fly, but he’s her new boss.
I really loved these characters. Despite her being from a very well off family, she knows what hard work is and strives to make it on her own.

I won’t give away anymore of the story as its best to be read and figured out as you go. I really loved Peyton and Sig, they seemed great!
Highly recommend!

The Smirk Series is one of those series that is written in such an amazingly clever way. Each book overlaps the previous one yet can be read as a stand-alone.

There is so much I enjoyed about Sebastian and Kit’s story:

The fact that they speak directly to the reader.
Told in dual POV.
Has such a sense of humor about itself.
Such food friendships.
Sexy times.
2 fabulous dads.
1 fabulous dog.
And so much more.

I absolutely recommend this book, this series and this author.

This is a well written story that as characters that pop off the pages as they bring the story to life. I enjoy seeing other characters from previous books in this series and enjoy how they are all friends. Sebastian and Kit have one wild night and morning in Vegas, then went their separate ways. Four years later they meet again, is the attraction still there? What will fate have in story for them? Their story has humor and romance. I highly recommend their story, it is my favorite yet.

By: Jen Luerssen
5 out of 5 stars

The story Salty Sebastian (Smirk Series Book 3) by Jen Luerssen is a romantic comedy. It is a book that hooked me from the very beginning and I found myself lost in the storyline and characters. I loved reading about Sebastian and Kit. Sebastian owns his own winery. He is also someone who keeps women at arm’s length. He is surprised to find out the new intern the co-owner of his business has hired is a woman that he has met before. Kit is a woman whose passion is making wine. She too is surprised to find out her new boss is a man from her past. Their relationship is to be professional. They can be co-workers and even friends. What does the future hold for Sebastian and Kit? Read this book to find out. I loved reading the playful bantering that goes back and forth between Kit and Sebastian. They are characters that I grew to care about with each chapter that I read. The story has romantic moments as well as interactions that brought a smile to my face and had me laughing out loud. The book has emotional moments that are touching. The additional characters that are introduced are interesting and enjoyable to read about. This is a story I would highly recommend reading.

Salty? I mean, it’s better than “f*cking” or “just” but I think it paints an inaccurate picture of my genial personality. I’m assuming that “sexy” or “sophisticated” were too pedestrian or already taken. Joe tells me that I can pretend it’s about how I taste. I ignore that affable deviant as much as possible.
Generally, I’m a pretty easy going and friendly guy.
My new intern, Kit calls me “Salty” and so I guess it’s a thing now. Joe says I tend to act like an ass around women I’m attracted to.

Am I attracted to Kit? Hell yes and in the past I’ve treated her very well. Several times in one night as a matter of fact. A night we didn’t exchange real names or numbers, it was Vegas, for fuck’s sake.

Maybe I’m a tiny bit salty that I find that the co-owner of my winery, Mikey, hired Kit as our new intern. I’m not the type of guy who sleeps with his interns.

If being stuck working with a woman I’ve been intimate with, who is amazing at her job, yet treats me like I gave her chlamydia pushes me a little in the salty category, then I guess that’s an apt description. Despite her clear displeasure with me now, Kit was once happy in my company. I’m just going to have to figure out if it’s worth making her happy again.

A four-star read to take a punt on. I honestly didn’t know what to think about when I picked this one up, as the blurb was what hooked me it just intrigued me to a point that I had to know more. I don’t know what it was about this one that made me chuckle, there was just something about it. The writing style will take a little to get used to, but I promise once you do then you will enjoy it the directness of Frank is shocking but fun. Some of the characters you will adore like Mikey you will love but some not so much, but I will leave it to you to decide.

Five Stars

Man this book was perfect. Frank was a typical guy to me with a very nonchalant personality. But inside he was a big softie. I really enjoyed the authors sense of humor. Mikey and Frank were so perfect for each other. They have what I use to have with my ex. Their relationship was fun and easy. Don’t get me wrong there were moments that it was rocky. But they made it work and that is all that matters. Mikey had a unique personality. Most women are not so blunt and open as she is. She was so comfortable and confident with who she is that she wasn’t too afraid to let Frank in. Frank on the other hand was level 10 clingy which surprised me because it didn’t fit his personality that he portrayed. Overall I couldn’t get enough of this couple. They were funny and loving but they also learned and grew with each other. I will definitely be reading more from this author if she infuses the same lightness and joy in all her books.

F*cking Frank (Smirk Series Book 1)F*cking Frank by Jen Luerssen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

F*cking Frank was a great 5 star read and book one in the Smirk Series.

I was pulled in right away and was LOL so many times. I absolutely love Frank and his (no pun intended) frankness. He tells it like it is and has no filters.

People suck, or most people do. But the most important lesson was to choose your friends carefully and do not trust easily. – Frank

When Frank and the band go to the winery for their summer gig, they meet Mikey. And oh my gosh if she isn’t made for Frank no one is, these two were like twins on everything. Mikey is like a female Frank to a tee and when she sees something she wants she’s not shy about it. These two are sassy, strong, straight forward and so much more. I loved them.

Can they keep things professional or will they give into their attraction? Has Frank finally found THE ONE?

There is so much more to this great read. All of the secondary characters were great, I look forward to reading more from this series. This read was so refreshing and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have a friend very similar to Frank so it felt like I was reading his story. Jen has once again given me another great story to read, I’m excited to read the rest of the series.

F*cking Frank (Smirk Series Book 1)F*cking Frank by Jen Luerssen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

F*cking Frank is Book 1 in the Smirk Series from author Jen Luerssen. This was my first read from this author and boy, oh boy was it a brilliant introduction in this author’s writing style and series. From the moment you open this book or even when you read this book’s synopsis you are physically laughing out loud, from start until the very end! This was a light-hearted comedy romance that keeps you captivated until the end. It was a smooth flowing easy read, that was a pleasure to read!

I loved the similarities in each character from the clothes, to the tattoos, and attitudes yet both of them are there own individual person. The connection that our main characters Frank & Mikey had was off the charts, and it was made even better by their interactions together and banter they would have. Throughout the book I was rooting for them, they had something special that I hoped they could pursue.

Another thing that stands out in this read is the secondary characters, all of them stand out in their own way, and the interactions they have with Frank really help push the story along.
But now for the part that stands out most to me, I love reading books that are from POVs, but I have never read one from a males POV for the entire read. It has got to be the best way to tell this story, if it was told any other way I don’t think it would be as great as what it was. It felt as though I was having a conversation with Frank, it was as though it was directed at me, and it made this read even better!

If you are looking for a read that makes you laugh, has romance and has a hot guy and an amazing female then this is the book for you, do not miss it!

F*cking Frank (Smirk Series Book 1)F*cking Frank by Jen Luerssen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

F*cking Frank is the first book in Jen Luerssen’s Smirk Series. The book is a steamy hot romance, that I only recommend to those over the age of 18, because it sure is erotic. The story is about Frank, a down right prick at the best of times, and a man that could give the Grinch a run for his money. All the man wants to do is make sweet music and surf the perfect wave. Until her meets his doppelgänger in female form, Mikey. She is his identical twin from another bin. The similarities at first turn them on in a narcissistic kind of way, before they begin to get uncanny and slightly unsettling.
I found the story overall to be very engaging and entertaining. It was well written and the two main characters were believable, they just weren’t my cup of tea. I think it was because they were so believable that I couldn’t relate to them or feel empathetic of their situation. They became real people in my head, that I knew I would never associate with, because of how they treat their friends and interact with other people. I still thought the story was very entertaining and an enjoyable read, but for once I could not sympathize with a main character; purely based on my own personal preferences. I still recommend the book to friends who enjoy characters like Frank, that have very dry humor and break the fourth wall.
Overall I gave F*cking Frank 3/5 stars.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

F*cking Frank by Jen Luerssen is book 1 In the Smirk Series. I have never read any of this authors work but cannot wait to read the next book. I want to see how Joe is going to fall in love just like Frank has. Frank is a grumpy guy that doesn’t really like people and hates small talk.
Frank plays bass in a band called Lia and The Licks. Franks friend Sebastian offers the group a summer job playing at the winery so once they all agree, they head up there and even have a place to stay.
When Frank meets Mikey, it’s insane how much they have in common. They are pretty much inseparable from the day they meet. What will happen when the summer is over and real life choices get in the way.

This was a great book from beginning to end. I loved the loyalty between friends and the chemistry between Mikey and Frank was off the charts.

I really like finding new authors. This was such a refreshing read for me. I like to read various
genres and I really liked how the author winds the story around the characters. It’s quite nice to have a unique character base.

I really like how the author made the character realistic as sometimes in books they just are too
fake. Frank is so realatable. There is so much to be said for asterisk. The author really had me hooked on this book and I was glad to have a break from my normal steamy romances. This book really was a breath of fresh air for me. It wasn’t superficial it was a really great down to earth read and I will be reading it over and over.

OMG! This book was a riot! From the moment I read the blurb and laughed out loud to the very last page this was hilarious and a great escape. I have not had the the pleasure of reading anything from Jen Luerssen before picking up F*cking Frank but I have to tell you I will be stalking, er I mean following faithfully lol, her from now on! I hate to seem a bit too repetitive but if you happen to not read the little blurbs before you read the reviews or not at all I just have to include it in the review. This was what sold me on this book, and I loved it!
*************************************************************************************************************
I’m F*cking Frank (yeah there’s an asterisk, worked for that kids book, didn’t it?) and this book is about me and Mikey. You’d probably rather be in Mikey’s head since she’s not as much of an asshole, but unfortunately, the author finds me more interesting.
Mikey and I were literally separated at birth, and when we get back together, it’s pretty great. She could do way better, but who am I to set her standards? I make music, she makes wine. Together we mostly argue and f*ck (jeez, even here an asterisk?), so you know, we’re perfect for each other. At least I think we are, she wants to keep it casual and like a jerk I fell in love.

She and I f*ck a lot, hopefully it’s enough for you pervs. I mean, Myself? I like a good paranormal with maybe two or three powerful demigods or shifters going at it, but you do you.

Where was I? Yeah, so buy this book if you like my abs and that vee thing Mikey swoons over. You could get the ebook version or you could buy the paperback and show my abs off like nature intended.

“Hey Carol, what are you reading?” I ask.

“Um, War and Peace,” you say and I know you are lying your face off, Carol. You like romance, own that shit!

So go ahead, buy this book, read it in three hours, and move on to the next one that will be undervalued by snobs with no joy in their life.

*********************************************************************
And.. This book is just that. A direct POV novel told by Frank. He is one blunt and sarcastic man, and I loved the way he caught me off guard even when I thought that I had gotten used to him as a character. This book is also really interactive and directly refers to the you the reader often, which was a fun and new twist, one I have rarely seen in novels. I loved the steam level and the underlying lesson that came from the romance part. Overall this book was the perfect rom-com, mostly steamy comedy to spend the afternoon laughing with. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one in the series, and other books by Hen Luerssen! Thanks for a great read and lots of laughs!

F*cking Frank (Smirk Series Book 1) by Jen Luerssen is a romantic comedy and it is one of the most funniest stories I have read. Jen hit the mark when she wrote this book, it is told in a male point of view and her dialogue and humour was spot on. I found myself laughing out loud and getting funny looks when I did so, but I didn’t care because I was so engrossed in the lives of these wacky characters. It was also sexy and steamy and there were some tender moments that made you go ah. The story feels so realistic as we follow these crazy friends, who are family, through their lives, with all their quirks and sexy smexy innuendos, teasing and mateship, love and flaws, hope and wonder.

I seriously look forward to reading more of these characters in this series, as one book is not enough. Good job Jen!

F*cking Frank is a hilarious and addictive tale about two people who are almost the same and is book one in the Smirk series by Jen Luerssen.

Frank meets Mikey and it is like they are cut from the same cloth. The likeness between the two is uncanny and makes for seriously unputdownable reading. It was captivating, so ridiculously funny, which had me hoping I could read extra slow, just to savour the moments with these two. I was borderline needing therapy after this, as I laughed like I was crazy and loved like I never would again. It was so entertaining that I cannot get into another book right now.

As this is my first time reading Jen Luerssen’s work, I was stunned at how immersed I became in it. It was instant. Reading F*cking Frank was an unforgettable experience and I desperately await the next book in the Smirk series. 5 stars.

From the start, the author will have you laughing until your sides are about ready to split and still continue on. Frank is a no filter kind of guy, but can anything set him off kilter? With a title like F*cking Frank I was expecting something good. What I got was so much more. From the uniqueness of the story being told from Frank’s POV to the interaction between him and Mikey, this book had it all. Colorful banter and steamy scenes between the two main characters only enhance the book. The flow of the story is easy and engaging. Emotions cross the gamut so be prepared for the roller coaster. And Jen Luerssen doesn’t stop there! The blurb only gives you a peek of what this book could be but trust me it is just the tip of the iceberg. And when you have sunk into like the Titanic, you will not come up for air until the end! As a first-time reader for this author I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the writing style. This is my first read by this author and I sincerely enjoyed it, there were many parts that made me smile and there were some that had me wondering what would happen and how these two people could make anything work.

It was a unique story and I liked how it was all in Frank’s point of view, that was different and I enjoyed that and I did kind of like the times it felt like he was talking directly to me.

The secondary characters were a lot of fun and the interaction between them all made me laugh. I think Frank’s best friend Joe was my favorite of the whole book and I hope he will get his own story.

I did enjoy the story although at times it felt predictable it was still a fun read and I would definitely recommend it.

I did like the characters and they were unique i their own ways and I did find this an easy but also funny read it did have some seriousness along the way.
While i didn’t absolutely love this story, doesnt mean others won’t.

F*cking Frank (Smirk Series Book 1) by Jen Luerssen – Review by Angela Hayes

F*cking Frank (Smirk Series Book 1)F*cking Frank by Jen Luerssen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was my first read by Jen Luerssen, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when I began. I didn’t know if I would enjoy the story because I don’t normally enjoy over-the-top and very direct humour that the blurb alluded to. But as I was looking for something a little different from what I had been reading of late, a palate cleanse of sorts, so I took the chance and wandered in.
What I found was everything I had expected it to be- a somewhat bawdy romantic comedy with a very cheeky overtone- lots of swearing, flirting, innuendos, sarcasm, and teasing…. but, surprisingly, it also had a deeper and more emotive storyline than I had expected, which balanced out the comedy- and I have to say I enjoyed the book much more than I had expected to.
The story is told almost entirely from Frank’s POV, even addressing the reader directly at times- which took me a little while to get used to. All the characters are quite zany, fully developed individuals with their own quirks, flaws, and personalities. Each one contributed to the storyline, and help set the tone and mood. I particularly liked Joe and Lia.
So, If you like outrageous romantic comedies with strong, quirky characters, and want to know what happens when a grumpy musician meets a smart, independent winemaker- then this is definitely the story for you!

Thank you, Ms. Luerssen!

F*cking Frank by Jen Luerssen – Review by Lisa Helmick

F*cking Frank (Smirk Series Book 1)F*cking Frank by Jen Luerssen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is so enjoyable. I loved it! I picked this up because with that title how could it not be a wickedly good read. Turns out Frank has not much of a filter. He is brash and basically says what he thinks regardless of who it’s too. Male, female, boss or friend…he holds nothing back. He is known for being a grump and never smiling or laughing plus he has no boundaries. So when he meets his doppelgänger but as a woman. Well his life is about to change.

I love the secondary characters especially Joe. His best friend. He teases him mercilessly….and I even laughed and made the “OH” face a few times with the things he said. He also is there when he needs him and gives him good advice. Lia is another who comes up with the whackiest things to irritate her bestie, Frankenburger or Frank and Beans or any other name she can think of. As well as her Swear Words! OMG! I love it! Such a great idea to make her memorable! When all the friends get together it’s funny but when they try “roast”Frank in front of his girl….hilarious!

This is a good solid book that even had me worrying about Frank a few times. It’s actually a fun read and the time sped by fairly quickly. I enjoy how Frank is telling the story but at times also talking to the reader. The characters were all Whack-a-Doodles but that’s what made me like them. Each is quirky in their own way. This is the first in the series and I can’t help but wonder about Joe….is he next???
