Manipulator’s War (Ruarnon Trilogy Book 1) by Elise Carlson – Review by Jenni Bishop

Manipulator's War (Ruarnon Trilogy, #1)Manipulator’s War by Elise Carlson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

Manipulator’s War is Elise’s debut book. It is a YA fantasy tale. The story didn’t flow seamlessly which made it hard to keep on track but it is a good start to the Ruarnon Trilogy. Elise is an Aussie and it is great to see another author from Australia. They have lived with being a part of a brutal war for many years and now when everyone has gone missing Ruarnon has to step up. Linh finds herself in the thick of things when she would rather be anywhere but. Will she be able to help Ruarnon and find peace or will they all loose in the end?

With murder and mayhem, myths and local lore, and things that go bump in the night it has everything YA’s will love.

Nite Fire: Exit Strategy (Book 5) by C.L. Schneider – Review by Jenni Bishop

Exit Strategy (Nite Fire #5)Exit Strategy by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can’t believe we are already on the last book, book five in this series. Once I saw that the book was out, I grabbed it. I have enjoyed all the books in this series as the story is an apocalyptic urban fantasy that is action-packed and as always kept me glued to the pages. Dahlia the dragon shifter once again finds herself in a race against time, with half her team MIA, monsters on a rampage, and the rest of humanity facing destruction. But if that isn’t enough, they also have to try and stop the veil between the worlds eroding.

Dahlia Nite is brash and kickarse, loud and sassy and faced with a final battle Dahlia lets her dragon free. inside her is done sitting quietly in the background.

Be sure to start at the beginning of this series and work your way through. YOU will not be disappointed.

Unabridged (Lovestruck Series Book 2) by Melinda De Ross – Review by Jenni Bishop

Unabridged (Smart & Sassy in the City, #2)Unabridged by Melinda De Ross
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow this is so far from the last book I read by Melinda but then again, she is a multi-genre writer. Her Rom Com books are quick to read. Unabridged had me laughing at this romance and the wit in which Melinda writes her characters. The story is told in the Heroines POV. I would have loved to get the male POV as well.

Being rich and handsome are not everything, although they certainly help but it was time for Angelina to move on. Blade had his heart broken and decides he needs a change of pace. However, they soon realise how bittersweet it is that they cross paths once again. Then the fun begins.

If you are looking for a little feel-good afternoon escape grab a copy and enjoy.

Hush, My Darling (Benoit and Dayne Mystery Book 2) by Winter Austin – Review by Jenni Bishop

Hush, My Darling (Benoit and Dayne Mystery, #2)Hush, My Darling by Winter Austin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read by this author and didn’t realise that it was the second book until I was over half way through. I didn’t feel like I missed anything because Winter gave us enough information from the first book. So, reading as a standalone is no problem. It is a crime thriller that is suspenseful and intriguing. The story is told in third person and has intense thrills, spills and chills and has a lot of grit. It is a haunting tale of murder and mayhem, vengeance and power, mystery and obsession that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. The mixed cast of characters are complex and fully realised and likeable.

This is one series you don’t want to pass by. Prepare to be captivated by Winter’s writing skills.

This Night Has Ended (Vampire State Book 5) by Alexander Charalambides – Review by Jenni Bishop

This Night Has EndedThis Night Has Ended by Alexander Charalambides
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the fifth book in the Vampire State series and unfortunately the last book in this intriguing series. Each book just gets better and better. Alexander does not give us a story about traditional vampires. No, his dark paranormal fantasy portrayal of them is unique and original. It is a thrilling dystopian series with a romantic twist. Being fast paced and full of action keeps you completely engaged. The plot and world building are multi layered and complex and steeped in politics.
The dynamics shift in this book as we see Rowena keeping a dark secret as she teeters on the edge of darkness that may just destroy her, her humanity and everything they have fought for.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sashimi follows straight on from Evil Sushi so ensure that you read Book 1 first. It is an imaginative, original, unique, and cleverly written thriller. Things do go bump in the night and hide in the shadows. They destroy people and leave ghost towns in their wake. It is compelling, and a well written story. C.A. has such diversity in her works that you never know what you will get but that is the beauty of her writing style. The story has a little bit of everything to keep you drawn to the pages, such as environmental issues, a few twists, and unexpected turns, danger and anger, secrets and lies, a pandemic and mayhem, mutations and so much more. This tale is a mixture of horror and paranormal, sci-fi, and thriller, mystery, and suspense. With this diversity of genres, it has something for everyone.

Everwood County Plantation: BWWM Enemies-to-Lovers Billionaire RomanceEverwood County Plantation: BWWM Enemies-to-Lovers Billionaire Romance by Stacy-Deanne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Stacy has given us another story full of passion and hard topics. This BWWM Enemies-to-Lovers romance is a fast and short read. I found it hard to connect with the characters in the beginning because all they did was argue. I didn’t know if I wanted to strangle then or embrace them. But as the story progressed, they grew on me.
Colton is a real a*hole in the beginning a typical boy with money. He wants to tear down an historical plantation but not everyone agrees with him. He just needs to stop the current roadblock.
Zenni won’t let them tear down a part of her history. The plantation is in her blood it is in her bones it is a part of her. She won’t let that insufferable man get his hands on it.
Both want to kill the other one until they don’t, and things become steamy.

Saving Marvel (Satan's Devils MC Second Generation Book 4)Saving Marvel by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have been on an MC book run for the last few months and Manda is one author that I jump on a book when it’s available. Manda is one of the Queens of MC writers. She writes strong characters and alpha men who look after family, their women, and their brothers. I love the banter between the Satan’s Devil’s, and it always brings a smile to my face and out loud laugher. It is a gripping, emotional and heartbreaking read that brings out all the feels.
This one is Marvel and Virginia’s story where a robbery brings them together. It is nice to read something where the characters are a little older than the norm and falling in love when unexpected.
There is mayhem and action, pain, and broken trust, trauma, and danger. Something for lovers of MC books but even if you don’t normally read MC books you will love Manda’s books.

I was excited to jump into this YA Paranormal Romance tale as paranormal is my thing. Nicole is a new author to me, and I enjoyed this Fated Mates story. I have added a Trigger Warning as a precaution because it mentions rape but there are no explicit details. I would have liked to see a longer story and a bit more action as it is a very quick read. Nicole writes well and her work is easy to read. The story is told in multiple POV, so you get a far better understanding of the characters thoughts and feelings. Nicole has given us main characters that have depth and will break your heart, but she has given us those who you will love to hate and those that you hate to love.

The books in this series are quick reads but they are packed full of everything you would want in a MC paranormal story. This the third book in the Grimm Wolves MC series and each book gets better than the one before. I suggest reading them in order because they have intercrossing characters in each book.
The story is an emotional one, but it also had me laughing out loud at times with the comradery and banter. There is danger and drama, angst, and suspense, lots of love and some Christmas spirit. It is engaging and intriguing and I am invested in these characters as we follow along on their journeys that these brothers and Old Ladies find themselves in.
