Porter and Midge are back and today they and their owners are stuck indoors and what better way to spend the day is by baking!
This, however is no ordinary baking day, it’s a day for baking dog treats and there are a lot to choose from, but will Porter and Midge like them and how do you use treats with dogs, how many is too many?
This is a great way to involve children in learning about pet care and kitchen safety all in one go, especially with the recipes included, this is a great book for everyone.

I read this book with my two sons – D (age 6) and S (age 2.5). They were super excited to try out some of the recipes in this book. We made Plush’s Fruity Yogurt Treats and Mercy’s Frozen Peanut Butter Yogurt Treats.
A review from an actual kid: D (age 6) – “The puppy dogs were sitting at the gate waiting for their people to make them some yummy treats.” S (age 2.5) – “Our puppy dog likes treats too!”
We gave this book 5 out of 5 stars because both of my boys and our puppy dog loved the treats that resulted after reading this book!

What a cute and useful book. Baking with children is the best. But making dog treats is so much more to discover. The book not only talks about baking, it also touches on what food we can feed our furbabies. This author opens so many doors with this story. Baking, science, math and working together to name a few. The story is easy to follow and the recipes at the end sound so yummy for our dogs. Children will love baking for their dogs as well as their friends’ dogs. I love this book and my grandkids can’t wait to try more of the recipes found at the end of this book. What a great story!

This series is great for children with pets to learn how to take care of them responsibly. This book teaches the children that they could stay inside, and with parent supervision, make healthy treats for their pets. The dogs sit patiently behind the gate smelling the pastries being made in the kitchen.
I am getting this series of books for my newborn grand daughter so that she can look at the pictures now while Mommy reads her the book and then as she gets older she can read the book herself. I love the fact that their are plenty of good recipes in the back of the book for them to make for their pets.

This series of books is so cute and so fun for families. If you have a child and a dog then this series is great for you! Or if you plan on getting a dog for your family/child. This series helps kids understand dogs more and the responsibilities that come with having and caring for them. You might learn too! In this book you learn about baking treats for your dog. It has so many wonderful recipes for you and your kiddos to test out. In the back it has some great talking points that are perfect for you to talk about with your young dog lover too. My girls can’t wait to try out some of the recipes for our three dogs. We are thinking of making the “Penny’s Peanut Butter and Honey Dog Biscuits” first, as all three of our dogs have no issues with the ingredients in them. I love that these books teach you so much about dogs while reading. Every child should read these if they have a dog or plan on getting a dog. I have even learned some things and I am in my 30s! My girls are excited to read more and of course super excited to get into the kitchen and start baking for the puppies! 🙂

This story follows with learning about healthy snacks for your dog. This book really followed well with the illustrations and where colorful and engaging to my kids. After we read this the kids wanted to make healthy snacks for our dogs because this book also shared some snake recipes. This is a great book for kids to learn and engage them into doing activities.

This was an anthology of short stories that nicely ties up the REWIND series. Coming in having never read the series, I am a little behind but the author does give a list on who’s who and belongs with who. The stories are separate from each other but do tie in together nicely. There is a levelof steam withh this romance. The characters are unique and I found them to be well thought out and developed. I think this will be a great book for fans fo the REWIND series.
My littles old always look forward to reading about a Porter and Midge adventure and so am I. These books always find a way to combine educational content with fun interactive elements. The book is visually appealing, with colorful illustrations that capture the fun and creativity involved in baking. The recipes are simple, kid-friendly, and come with easy-to-follow instructions, making it a great tool for introducing children to cooking and responsible pet care. We definitely can’t wait to try some of these ideas for the dog treats with our doggo. I can’t wait to see more from this series and author.

My son and I always enjoy books about Porter and Midge. We love the rhyming and the colorful pictures. They are educational, while remaining fun. Im not sure where Paws and Pastries falls into the series, but it would be a good first read, since it introduces us to the dogs and their owners. The picture of mom made me laugh, as it looks so much more realistic than the rest of the illustrations. This book is worth its weight, simply due to the recipes included. It is more of a dog treat cookbook, with a little poem/story preceding. We have ingredients for a couple on our list, and plan to try on our pup.

This is a great way to show your love to your animal friends, and to get children involved with taking care of their animals while also trying something new like baking. My favorite part would be all the recipes in the back of the book, I can’t wait to try them on my own pup.

This does show the reader what it’s like to bake treats in an ideal environment. The illustrations are very realistic and colorful to catch the reader’s eye with what’s going on each page. I do like the fact that the author does provide recipes and safety tips when you’re in the kitchen.

I love this series and I’ve shared them all with my 6 year old nephew and he loves them as well. He has a dog so this book was especially relatable to him. Porter is a Mastiff and Midge is a Greater Swiss Mountain dog and their owners are C J and Lora. C J and Lora are finding ways to make treats for Porter & Midge. This book includes several recipes for different treats for their dogs. There are cute pictures and the story is fairly short so that it will keep your young ones attention span. ‘Meet Porter the Mastiff he’s big and he’s bold, And Midge, the Swissy, she’s a sight to behold. The two pups are besties with CJ and Lora, Together they explore all the fauna and flora. But this day was different; they stayed inside to play, And came up with the idea to bake the hours away. “Today let’s bake treats for Porter and Midge, Like tasty cookies that will make their tails twitch.” They found a recipe book, what a surprise! And read through the pages with wide, eager eyes They gathered ingredients with joy and with glee, Then they began the day’s fun baking spree.’
Porter and Midge: Paws and Pastries: A Kid’s Guide to Homemade Dog Treats by Jennie Chen & Giselle Nevada is the latest instalment in this cute series which incorporates engaging stories that always come with handy, informative elements that all pet families should know. We all love a tempting treat, and so do our furry family members. But not everything is safe for them to eat, and this book encourages a discussion about what is safe, doggy nutritional requirements, responsible treat giving, and other important factors. And this time, instead of all their ‘outdoor’ adventures- CJ, Lara, Porter and Midge all stay indoors to cook up a storm — providing us with quite a few yummy recipes to make for our own doggy family and friends. This is a fun, quick, and easy read that has also has a great rhyming rhythm, a bit of a lyrical feel, that will help children/readers to connect with the words/story/message – while the recipes provided range from savoury to sweet – cookies to birthday cake and everything in-between. Time to get you bake on!! Happy Reading…

My kids and I absolutely adore the Porter and Midge series because with each one we find another way to connect with our furry friends. This one has become our favorite that we have found in the series because we’re a family of bakers! The story is pretty short which kept the attention of my 8-year-old. We spent a ton of time together baking treats for not only our furr-mily but for the entire neighborhood (with their human’s permission, of course). There are so many recipes inside and a little note at the end with a few guidelines to explain why we use the ingredients we do for canines. I highly recommend this for you to share with family and friends! It will surely bring some fun and love into the household with your pups having happy tummies!
