What happens when you find a body under your property but in the end all the leads come straight back to you for the murder.
Randy is living his dream life with Ben now, but after his horrendous past can he finally put the past behind him and move on to the next step with Ben. It is coming up to the couples first anniversary and Randy is ready to take that commitment but will one night change that forever.
This is the second book in this series and follows the relationship and life of Randy, we get to see a glance into their world in the first book but this book explores more of their relationship and the way the story twists whether Randy can convince people he is not mad and did not do anything. When Randy finds the body to the investigation you feel for him as in the end, he feels no-one believes that he was not involved in anything.
With hints of the paranormal and the secondary characters with the story this makes for a compelling read. The story is well written and draws you further into the story as it goes on, can they discover the reason why this is happening and can their love for each other help them through to uncover the secrets which lie within the story.
This is a great mystery story and I believe you will be just as hooked as I was.

So, after reading the first book in this series I had to pick up this one to continue. And it didn’t disappoint. I will say I do highly recommend you reading the first one before this if you haven’t. Just as with the first book, the author continued to have me reading as fast as I could to see what happened next. She has a way with words that keeps you enthralled in the story. Not only is this a paranormal mystery, but there is a love story intwined that will keep you on the edge of your seat and tear at your emotional heartstrings. Personally, these characters made the entire story come to life. And as with any good mystery you will find yourself pointing fingers at certain individuals but watch out who you blame because people may be destroyed in the process. Read it to find out if your suspicions are correct.

“Murder at Honeybee Lake” is a follow-up to “Rebecca Remains,” a very twisty paranormal mystery. This one begins a year after “Rebecca…” resolves. In this one, Tessa’s friend Randy – who provided her with a guest room when she was hiding from Keith – has been living with Ben at their home at the lake for a year now. Down at the dock one evening, Ben pulls a dead body out from under the dock. Randy handles this badly, refusing to believe that Ben found an actual body until the police confirm it the next day. Ben is deeply offended by Randy’s behavior, yet he readily accepts Randy’s marriage proposal later in the week. Their engagement starts on a rocky note as Randy is arrested for the murder of his … already dead lover? WHAT? Denver died years before, from cancer. How did he end up in the lake? And how did the murder weapon show up under Randy’s deck? Ben runs away from all the drama, leaving Emily’s (Tessa’s sister) wife Mandy to solve the murder, as she knows her brother Randy could NOT have murdered any one! If Randy didn’t do it, did Ben? Did Denver “engineer” his own death? Randy undergoes severe abuse and homophobia from the prison guards, and has to depend upon Mandy and Randy’s estranged father, a lawyer, to get him out of the horrendous jail conditions. This is pretty hard to read, even though Randy finds a friend in the jail’s nurse and a closeted gay guard, Simon. The paranormal is much stronger in this book than in book #1. Randy and Ben both act strangely at times, and both attempt suicide. Were they … not themselves … when the suicide attempts occurred? This is all really twisty and the plot points of either Ben or Randy being the murderer are very convincingly drawn. So who murdered the already-dead Denver? Can Tessa contact Denver to find out? Parts of this novel get pretty repetitive, but it is twisty and suspenseful. The repetition knocks down the star rating from a 3.3ish to an even 3 stars.

Tessa and her sister have been estranged the entirety of Tessa’s marriage, b/c Emily did not like their eloping nor Keith’s over-protectiveness. Tessa begins dreaming about a woman with long, red hair, warning her that Keith will hurt Tessa, just like he hurt her. It turns out that this woman really exists – existed? – because she is Rebecca, Keith’s former wife. Rebecca shows Tessa proof of the abuse she suffered and tells her that she was actually murdered – by Keith. In Tessa’s non-dream life, she reaches out to Emily, to end their estrangement, and for help. Since we readers now know that Keith is an abuser, it makes sense that he gets upset at Tessa and Emily re-connecting. When Tessa begins suffering endless headaches and fatigue, Keith arranges for a doctor’s appointment; it turns out Tessa is pregnant. Her dreams of beginning a new family are coming true! Except – they are not. After finding proof that the dream woman was telling Tessa the truth – and the episode of marital rape by her supposedly-perfect husband – Emily and her girlfriend, Mandy, help Tessa move out. Between the frightening dreams, and trying to establish a new life in which Keith cannot find her, Tessa and Emily try to solve Rebecca’s murder. Tessa needs peace and Rebecca deserves justice. Emily encourages Tessa to explore her gift – communicating with dead people, in order to accomplish both goals. The story becomes progressively more suspenseful, as the reader awaits the probable confrontation with Keith What a plot twist awaits! Not only do we get the confrontation, but it is nothing like we expected, as we also learn the truth about the fates of Tessa’s and Emily’s parents! It certainly was NOT what they had been told. There is very little exposition at the beginning of the novel: the plot becomes suspenseful immediately. A bit more exposition would have been helpful. Tessa makes unrealistic leaps in knowledge, seeming to understand situations well before she should have. It seems unrealistic for a woman being stalked by her husband to jump as quickly into a “new” relationship as Tessa does with her high school flame, Tommy. I was really sickened by the marital rape and abuse. Fortunately, the plot improved from there, becoming more about establishing a new family from friendships as opposed to more traditional family arrangements. I rounded the book up to 3 stars. It is not my typical genre, and I will probably stick closer to paranormal cozy mysteries as opposed to more “realistic” suspenseful mysteries like this one.
This is the first book by this author that I have read, and I was hooked from the moment I started reading it. I found it to me a suspenseful book that I couldn’t put down. I was so wrapped up in all the secrets, lies and deception that was taking place I was sitting on pins and needles until the end. And to be quite honest, I was sweating when I reached the end from all the elements that I read. Great book and one that I highly recommend if you are into paranormal crime and mystery. I think she did a fabulous job describing everything and everyone in this book. In some areas, too much because I was a little frightened and looking over my shoulder in some places. Overall, a fabulous read and I look forward to reading other books by her as well.
Murder at Honeybee Lake is the second book in the Shadow of a Doubt series. Like most series, I recommend giving the first book a read before starting this one, but it can be read as a stand alone too. I enjoyed this book very much. It is very well written and kept me turning pages until the very end. Being a paranormal, crime book, the story was full of mystery, secrets, lies, deceptions, tension and most definitely surprising. Very clever plotted story and I can’t wait for the next book.

This is book two from this series and I have read the first one. I definitely don’t think this is a standalone. I think you should read the first one and then read this one. This story focused on Randy and Ben. I love how all of the characters are connected and how they make everybody part of their little family. This also had a lot of Mandy in it which was good but it was definitely Ben and Randy’s story. Tessa and Emily are in here as well but mainly background. This is a great series and I recommend it.

This was a read that made me think. It will have you think about how you look at people, how you treat them, and how you don’t always see/know what is going on inside of someone. The simple kindness of a candy bar can literally save someone’s life, and you might not ever know until later. Evil is very real and the author did a great job of conveying that in this book. Not my normal read, but I am glad that I picked it up!

Murder at Honeybee Lake is the second book in the Shadow of a Doubt series. It can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed this book. Great plot and well-written characters. The paranormal element doesn’t overwhelm the story and it feels very natural. There were a couple of places that felt a little slower, but not enough to put me off. The back and forth of emotions between Randy and Ben in the beginning was like whiplash because it happened several times in a short space, but you understand the flip-flopping a little more as their backstories come out in detail later on. Overall, great read!

Murder at Honeybee Lake is a continuation of the characters from Book 1, with an emphasis on the story of Randy and Ben, family of Tessa. The plot begins quickly with the titular murder being discovered in the first chapter. As the investigation begins, and the clues come together, Randy and Ben themselves become key to unravelling the murder.
This story is a cozy, easy-to-read mystery that fans of that genre will enjoy. It’s quite similar in structure and arc to Book 1. One thing I wasn’t a fan of was the insecurity of the characters. They all seem quite fragile and melodramatic, swinging wildly between loving deeply to accusations of hate. I wanted to find a strong hero to follow, but didn’t quite. Despite this, it is a relaxing read with a fun whodunnit plot.

It’s a fantastic paranormal crime and investigation story that had me devouring the pages to discover how everything plays out. The story is full of intrigue, gripping moments, mystery, tension, secrets, lies, agendas, deception, and surprises- as well as plenty of emotion. As expected from Jessica Aiken-Hall, this is very well developed – a cleverly plotted story that has been woven with palpable tension, making for a riveting read. Get set for a gripping ride. Can’t wait for the next book!

This is the second book in the Shadow of Doubt Books. If you have not read the first book, Rebecca Remains, I highly recommend reading it first. This story is so thought-provoking good that I could not put it down until I was done with it completely. The characters really made the story believable. and connectable. This story is about Randy. Randy is a writer and he has taken his boyfriend to Honeybee Lake for the peace and quiet and to take his relationship to the next level. That is until the body showed up in the lake. Randy is at a loss. His past is coming back full steam ahead and he is fighting for his innocence. Will he be successful in proving his innocence? His sister comes to assist him in the fight. Will too much come to a head and Randy loses everything? Will the truth set him free or will it be a little too late? I highly recommend this book. Be prepared to complete the book in one sitting as it is a page-turner.

Its the story of Randy Fletcher a best selling author who writes best at his home on Honeybee Lake. He lives there with his boyfriend hopefully husband soon, Ben. He feels safest at his home until a body is found in the water right by his dock. Randy feels like his sanctuary has been infiltrated and he doesn’t know if he can stay there. When he gets arrested for the murder of his ex boyfriend (the body that washed up) his sister tries to help him. Mandy is happily married and has a new baby but when her brother is in trouble she drops everything to help him. When she starts to uncover his past she starts to question if her brother is really who she believes him to be. Will Randy be able to get out of this mess that has now become his life? I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging paranormal crime novel which is book two in the ‘Shadow of a Doubt’ series. I would recommend reading the previous book as the characters do crossover and Tessa’s backstory was also explained. In this novel we are back with Tessa Stevens who has a special gift of being able to communicate with the dead. Following an abusive relationship author Randy Fletcher has been taking things slowly with boyfriend Ben, but as he enjoys the quiet solace of Honeybee Lake Randy decides to take his relationship to the next level. Randy’s past comes back to haunt him when a body shows up in the water and his safe place is threatened. As evidence piles up looking as though Randy is guilty of this murder he and his sister Mandy Blake must prove his innocence and the best way to do that is to find the real killer. When Mandy asks her sister in law Tessa to communicate with the victim she has to reconsider her belief that her brother is innocent. Randy is determined to discover the truth but both temptation and betrayal make him question everything and it might be to late to find the answers he seeks.
This was a real page turner and the plot twists kept me guessing until the end. The storyline does contain sensitive subject matter but it is dealt with sensitively. I was gripped from page one and couldn’t put this book down. The characters and the setting are bought to life by the descriptive narrative and the storyline flowed well. I liked how Tessa’s character had developed from book one and I look forward to future books with her as the main character. The book is written from Mandy and Randy’s point of view and this worked well and added to the overall drama and suspense of the story. I recommend this mystery crime novel with a paranormal twist as a great read.

This had a very different feel to the first book of the series. It has the same cast of characters, with a few extra thrown in and we get chapters from differing POV. The writing still drew me in and I was intrigued by the story line that I sat up way to late reading. The twists kept coming and when I thought I had it all figured out, my theories would become unravelled. I recommend this very cleverly written paranormal mystery.

Murder At Honeybee Lake by Jessica Aiken-Hall is the second book in the Shadow of a Doubt series. This book can be read as a stand-alone although personally I think it would be best read in order for a full enjoyment. I thought this book was a great addition to the series. It was gripping and kept me guessing the whole way through. I just had to find out what was going on. I thought the characters were what made this book. I really connected with them throughout and they are what really held my attention. I got behind them early on and stayed that way from start to finish. This is such a well written and intriguing book that I would highly recommend.

Jessica Aiken-Hall has done it again with Murder at Honeybee Lake. This is a wonderful novel filled with suspense and drama. I absolutely love her novels and this one didn’t disappoint. Akien-Hall is a wonderful author that uses her imagination to draw in readers.

Murder at Honeybee Lake (Shadow of a Doubt Book 2) by Jessica Aiken-Hall is a paranormal crime story. This gripping tale takes you on a tortuous journey that is full of mystery and intrigue and will have you on the edge of your seat. Jessica has very cleverly woven this tale of murder and mystery and mayhem that makes for a much compelling read. There are ghosts and deception, lies, and secrets and twists along the way make for a compelling read. Jessica is great at invoking emotions and the fear and tension are palpable. The intensity and the suspense of this tale will have you turning page after page with your heart in your throat. Reviewed by @jennadb

This is the second book in the Shadow of a Doubt series. This is a Paranormal Crime novel and is 318 pages. This story follows Randy, an author, and Ben, his boyfriend. Randy loves the lake. It is peaceful and he is also going to ask his boyfriend to go further in their relationship. But all that gets chucked out the window when a body floats up in the water. Mandy, Randy’s sister, drops everything to help him and enlists the help of her SIL, Tessa. Tessa is a medium and contacts the victim’s spirit, but everything is pointing to Randy as the murderer. Now Randy really needs to solve this problem. Heads up – this story could cause triggers in some.

What a great book, just as good as the first one. I could not put it down, I was intrigued from the start, there is so much raw emotion, I connected with it alot. If domestic violence is a trigger for you I would not recommend this book to you. Otherwise if you can get past that issue, it is a well written story about a murder that starts with lies and deceit.

I enjoyed this book. This the second book in this series which I highly suggest reading the previous book to help your enrichment of this series. This is a well written story that kept me turning pages to the end. This is an engaging story that has characters that brought the story to life on every page. This is about Randy, an author who is ready to take his relationship to another level while he is at Honeybee Lake. What will happen when murder throws a curve ball into his plans? Will he be able to find answers to his questions before it is too late? This is a really great story. The characters really made the story for me and Randy is my favorite. I am happy I picked up this book and so will you be. I highly recommend this book.
