The Sound of Silence AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Kerry Baker

The Sound of Silence Audio Book by Dakota Willink is a gripping and intense story that literally had my pulse racing. For so much of this book I found myself on the edge of my seat. It almost felt like I was right there with Gia and there were times when my heart was in my throat at the thought of what was about to happen. The author has done such an incredible job with this book. It is heartbreaking and uplifting all at the same time. I loved how she used the multiple POV’s to really add depth to the story. For me it made it even better. This book definitely contains triggers so for those that may be sensitive of them I would say read with caution. However I also cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is easily my favourite one by this author and it is also one of the best books that I have listened to or read this year! I am already looking forward to experiencing this one again. An amazing and emotional book I would urge everyone to pick up today!!!

Dire’s Club by Kimberly Packard – Review by Kerry Baker

Dire's ClubDire’s Club by Kimberly Packard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dire’s Club by Kimberly Packard is such a unique and interesting book that really pulled me in from the start. I loved the concept of the final bucket list trip and how the author has gone about creating that idea. I thought that all the characters were so well written. They each had their part to play and fit the book so well.
This is still a relatively new author for me and I really enjoyed how this book is completely different to the other books of hers that I have read. I think this one has to be my favourite book so far and it one I would highly recommend.

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Kerry Baker

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda J Burson is a collection of great books with some brilliant characters. This is a series that really does need to be read in orders as it is a continuation of their stories throughout. With each of these books I found it so easy to connect with the characters – and to reconnect with them quickly each time I started a new book.
Each of these books is well written and exciting to read. Even though it follows the same characters I thought each book had a different feel to it, distinguishing it from the last book while still having a familiar sense to it. The books are all faced paced. So much seems to happen in each book and the author really knows when to throw in a twist to keep you on your toes. As soon as I had finished one of these books I had to start the next and I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one

Written in the Stars (Mothers and Daughters Collection) by Angela Christina Archer – Review by Kerry Baker

Written in the StarsWritten in the Stars by Angela Christina Archer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Written in the Stars: a heart warming and gripping story about adoption and finding birth parents by Angela Christina Archer is the second book in the Mothers and Daughters Collection. This is such an emotional story you cannot help but be swept away by what the author is portraying. In every single page you could feel the raw emotion and the incredible journey the main character goes through. At times I found this book to be utterly heart breaking only for it to then completely shift and be uplifting and delightful. This author does an amazing job of painting the picture of what it was like in the time this book is set. Even though it is hard to believe now that these situations occurred the author made it truly relatable and easy to imagine.
Although this is only the second book in this series I have to say this is definitely my favourite one so far. It is hard to see how the author can top this but I am looking forward to finding out what is next.

Hazard in HawaiiHazard in Hawaii by Heather Silvio
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hazard in Hawaii by Heather Silvio is the first book in the A Doctor Danger Mystery series. This is a brilliant start to a new series and I fully enjoyed the book from start to finish. I really loved the main character of this book. Even before I started reading I got the sense that I would connect with her and I definitely did. She was so engaging and relatable. She definitely enhanced the whole story.
This isn’t the first book that I have read by this author and I like how this felt completely different to her other series. I could see the clear writing style but the story and the characters were all their own. I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series brings.

Sweet Nightmares (The Dream World Chronicles #1)Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace is the first book in the Dream World Chronicles. This is a well developed and great YA fantasy story that keeps the pages turning. I liked how the author has tried to put a twist on this usual topic to create something new and exciting. At times I think the story needed to be pushed a little more however the whole idea is great and made for an interesting read. The characters fit the story well and they seemed to grow together.
This is a new author to me and I enjoyed the overall writing style. I think the story, and the twists, were set up well and added to the details. This was a great introduction to this author and I can’t wait to see what happens in book two.

Stripped (Stripped Book 1) by Stacy-Deanne – Review by Kerry Baker

Stripped (The Stripped Series Book 1)Stripped by Stacy-Deanne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Stripped by Stacy-Deanne is the first book in the Stripped series. This book is a spin off from another series however I don’t think you need to read the other series first. I started with this book and was able to completely follow the story and the characters with no issues.
I found this book to be quite an easy read.
You get into the story easily enough, and although the characters obviously have background from the other series you connect with them easily too. I didn’t find the storyline too gripping, in parts it was a little predictable, I did still find myself invested enough that I wanted to know how things were going to turn out.
This is a new author to me and I have to say I definitely enjoyed her work. I will be reading the next book in this series and probably the previous series too.

Unbreakable (The Diamonds Book 1) by Tee Smith – Review by Kerry Baker

Unbreakable (The Diamonds, #1)Unbreakable by Tee Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Unbreakable by Tee Smith is the first book in the Diamond series. For me this book is all about the characters and their connection. Although they are complete opposites they have such a strong connection – the chemistry between them is so believable and real.
I thought the story line was good as well.bit felt like it built slowly throughout leading you to where it finishes. It was quite intense in some places and then less so in others, a good mix of the two. It is a well written book that leaves you wanting to read the next in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to book 2.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail: A Touching Tale of Sharing, Disability Awareness, Kindness and Overcoming Fears by Samantha Shannon is the third book on this absolutely wonderful series. When I saw there was another book to read I was so excited – possibly even more so than my daughter! We have reread the first two books so many times and could not wait to add this one too then. This book is just as fantastic as the others. It is educational and informative in a way that kids will understand and relate to. It is fun and entertaining while still touching on sensitive topics. This really is a brilliant series for any child to read. They are a firm favourite in our house and we are already looking forward to Jake’s next adventure.

Hairballs and Homicide (Kitty Beret Café Mysteries Book 1) by Ruth J. Hartman – Review by Kerry Baker

Hairballs and HomicideHairballs and Homicide by Ruth J. Hartman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hairballs and Homicide by Ruth J Hartman is the first book in the Kitty Beret Cafe Mystery series. For a mystery book I found this to be surprisingly lighthearted and fun, although it didn’t take away from the mystery element of it. The characters were all easy to get on with and worked well with the story. I was definitely intrigued as to how the book was going to go.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I enjoyed how easy going it was. I think I definitely commented with it more because of that. I wish there had been just a little less of the cat side of things but it wasn’t enough to detract from the story. This was an overall great book and I will be reading the next book for sure.

Hanging Softly in the Night: A Detective Nick Larson Novel by Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra is a detailed story that you won’t be able to put down. The author has created a complex story that weaves together so well. There is a lot going on in this book and I felt like I definitely had to focus on it to keep all the different storylines together. But I loved the way they all developed and how the author handled them all so easily.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was seriously impressed. It was well written, intriguing and a gripping tale. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dangerous Curves Boxed Set 1: 3 Cozy Christian Mysteries by K.L. Montgomery is a brilliant collection of books by an incredible author. Everything about these books is entertaining. They are all pretty easy books to read but each one is so much fun. I love the main character in the books. If you aren’t yet familiar with this author then I cannot stress enough how much yob need to change that immediately. Forbidden Mate (The Shadow Chronicles Book 2) by CR Robertson – Review by Kerry Baker

Forbidden MateForbidden Mate by C.R. Robertson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Forbidden Mare by CR Robertson is the second book in The Shadow Chronicles. This is an amazing follow up to the first book and one that I was so excited to start reading. The instant I started reading this book I was hooked. I was taken right back into this world and the characters. The way the author writes helped to create such a vivid picture and really made the book what it is. I was completely immersed in this story and what was happening. This is the kind of book that you will want to read in one sitting as you just can’t put it down.
After the first book I was intrigued to see where the author would take the series and watching that develop over this book was fascinating. And I loved how you could still feel that strong connection between Levi and Tasha just as much as you could before. This is a brilliant series and I am already looking forward to what comes next.

The Girl and the Gargoyle (The Girl and the Raven Book 2) by Pauline Gruber – Review by Kerry Baker

The Girl and the Gargoyle (The Girl and the Raven, #2)The Girl and the Gargoyle by Pauline Gruber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Girl and the Gargoyle: YA Paranormal Romance by Pauline Gruber is the second book in the Girl and the Raven series. This is a series that needs to be read in order in my opinion as you are introduced to all the characters in book one. I thought this was a brilliant follow up to book one. The author really knew how to push the story further and to make it even more exciting than the first. It took no time of effort to fall back in with Lucy’s storyline. She is an easy character to connect with and become invested in. The relationship between the main characters is such an interesting one to watch develop. It is complex and has depth that really adds to the overall story.
The story is quite fast paced. It feels like a lot happens throughout the book and but it never feels overwhelming. The author handles the story and the pace with ease and the whole book just has a great feel to it. This book is definitely the best so far and I cannot wait to read the next one.

I absolutely love Dahlia and Levi. I seemed to connect with both of these characters immediately and really wanted to see how things would work for them. They had everything going for them – chemistry, history, drama. I just thought they were so enjoyable to read about.
This book is definitely my favourite one of the series so far and is a book I might have to do a re-read of sooner rather than later!

Her Dark Love by Isra Sravenheart is the fourth book in the Dark Spell series. This is one series that I would highly recommend reading in order so that you can get full enjoyment out of it.
I really enjoyed this book. It is an origins story as such, looking back at what is the start of Lady Isra’s journey. It is such a fast past story that you are so easily drawn into everything going on. I have enjoyed all this series so far but I do think this book is my favourite! I enjoyed going back to see where it all started and to understand more about the main character and why she is the way she is. I also have yo say that I think this book has got to be one of my all time favourite book covers. I could not stop looking at it. Even if I hadn’t got this book we the next in the series I would have picked it up based on the cover alone. A brilliant book and well worth the time.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sinful Daughter: A Mafia Romance by Emily Bowie is a brilliant story about two people from the same world but on opposite sides. This is the first book that I have read by this author and what an introduction!! Right from the start this book takes off with a bang. It is such an intense story. The attraction that each of the characters have for the other, the interns battles to stop the emotions. I was hooked immediately. The book itself was a pretty quick read but it was so fast paced that it suited this style. At times it felt like the pages were almost turning themselves I was so engrossed in what was happening.
This is a fantastic book and the best way to be introduced to a new author. If this book is anything to go by I cannot wait to discover more of her work.

Hold Me Forever by Lea Nolan is the third book in the Heron Harbor series. This book can be read as a stand-alone although you are briefly introduced to these characters in the previous books.
I thought this book was a fantastic addition to this series. It had a little bit of everything to keep you fully immersed in the story. I thought the characters in this book were what made it though. They had such a strong connection between them that I could feel it in every interaction. I wanted them to find a way to work past their issues as it felt like they deserved to be together.
The story was well paced from start to finish – just right for being drawn into and engaged until the end. This is a great book and I am looking forward to what is next.

She kept it clean but also created a story that is interesting to read. I love stories that are a little dirtier but I can appreciate the writing in a book like this. This is an all round enjoyable book that I definitely worth a read.

Boy Released by J.D. Spero is the fantastic follow up to the first book Boy On Hold. Set 10 years after book one we are taken back into the lives of these complex and real characters. I really enjoyed the first book but I think this one is so much better. The whole book just had a raw vulnerability about it that really made me connect to what the author was trying to do. I think the author did an amazing job of portraying mental illness in all is forms. The different perspectives we got to see this story through added an even deeper layer to an already detailed book. This book is a brilliant and an absolute must read for everyone.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hawke by Anise Storm is the first book in the Men of Syn series. This is a fantastic and intense book in which the characters had such a strong connection. I found this book to be much more emotional than I expected. I tend to find that BDSM books are all about the dominant/submissive side of things and lack the emotional connection. But that couldn’t be any further from the truth with this book. You were really taken on a full experience and it enhanced the reading enjoyment. This is a brilliant book one I cannot wait to read book two.

I thought this was a sweet story that has some truly likeable characters at the heart of it. This is a new author to me and I enjoyed the way she pieced together the whole story. Although the book was clearly focused on Chris and Chloe I enjoyed how the author gave us a glimpse into the other characters who will obviously form the rest of a series.
As the start of a a series, and a debut novel, I thought this was a great book and I am looking forward to the next one.

Finders Reapers (New Orleans Nocturnes) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Kerry Baker

Finders Reapers: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy Audio Book by Carrie Pulkinen is the next instalment of the New Orleans Nocturnes series. This is a highly entertaining book that had me laughing out loud a few times.

Asher and Jasmine definitely have to be my favourite couple so far. They just worked so perfectly together right from the start. They really make this story everything it is.

I also think that Hollie Jackson narrating this series is the absolute perfect choice. She really captures not only the essence of all the different characters but also the essence of the series as a whole. She makes a brilliant book even more exciting and really makes me feel like I am there.

This is a fantastic series that I would urge you to read today.

Bake Believe AUDIO BOOK by Cori Cooper – Review by Kerry Baker

Bake Believe Audible Logo Unabridged Audio Book by Cori Cooper is a great YA book that really draws you in and makes you become invested in Cat. She is such a loveable character that brings the whole story to life.

Having read this book previously I was excited to listen to the audio book version. And while I still really enjoyed the story I did struggle with the narration a bit. I found it hard to connect with the person telling this story, hard to listen to their way of bringing it to life. Their style definitely suited this type of book which makes me think this is definitely a personal thing. and knowing how good this book is, it doesn’t take away from it being a 5* read.
