With help from his father and his cat, he tries new ideas to find the right one that will work for his recipe. It’s a terrific book that teaches persistence. Jack doesn’t give up and just keeps trying. A great story with nice illustrations to accompany them make for a storytime book that will win your kiddos over. I’ll be adding it to our library. I believe it will help me teach my grandson self-confidence.

Her books not only entertain children, but also promote the values of compassion and kindness towards animals, as well as the importance of rescue and adoption.
In addition to her Oscar and Emmy series, Terri has also written several other books showing off her writing skills, including “Green With Envy” and “Kneading a Winning Idea”.

Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. She attended Binghamton University, starting as a Creative Writing major. After earning a master’s degree from Syracuse University, she spent her professional career in the electric utility business in a variety of roles, ranging from environmental work, community relations, communication, and change management.
Her childhood dream was to own a horse and be an author. She is living her dream in Brooksville, Florida, with her husband, Rick, on a ranch called Carousel Acres. What a super cute read. Me and my kids really enjoy all the boos done by this author. It’s about when things or monsters are under the bed and how you can deal or figure out what to do. How to be brave and not scared of everything. The illustrations and story of this book fit very well together. The pictures were colorful and amazing, my daughter really loved the monster in this book.

My little one loves a story before bedtime so we picked this one since he’s really started to notice our dogs lately. He’s one and this was probably just about perfect for him. He really liked the pictures and I did to they were bright and engaging. The story itself was cute and easy to follow as little Kingston sees different animals through the story. I personally think it was a good story for a younger child. Four stars and highly recommend. I’ll definitely look for more from this author for bedtime stories.
This was a really cute book; my kids really enjoyed it. it was super easy to read, even my 6-year-old was able to read it. A mother and boy named Kingston go for walks in the book and shows the little boy all the dogs that they come across that one day they seen a cat and the boy thought that it was just another type of dog. And then it was like a game when his mother shows him an animal, he still calls it a dog. The love that Kingston has for the animals is super adorable. The pictures were very well illustrated and flows very well with the book, even the animals were beautifully done. My kids loved it.

Once again this author impressed me with her writing skills. In this children’s story, there is a big red monster hiding under the bed. As the little one tells her brother, he says there are no monsters. When she confronts the monster, he says he is hungry because if he does not get chores he will eat her. Read this story to find out what happens next. This is such a cute story. Children will love this bed time story. It is a fast read, yet interactive. It also introduced chores, I love it!!

I’ll start by saying- I need a Big Red Monster so I can tell it to clean and do things for me! This book has beautiful illustrations and tells the story of the monster who hides under the bed.This monster isn’t there just to scare you, but it needs you to keep giving it chores and things to do so it won’t eat you. My Big Red Monster is part of the Giants and Monsters collection, but they don’t have to be read together. I normally love the authors books, and while this book was cute, it is not one of my favorites. The main character has a monster under her bed, but her brother doesn’t believe her. After having her monster help with chores, she sends him over to her brother’s room. Guess he will learn first hand the monster is real! The book is short, and geared toward preschool/young elementary. My son is 7 and I would say that’s about the max age for engagement. The illustrations are wonderful and bright and detailed. I loved the slobber dripping from the monster on one of the pages.

What a great book for dog lovers and for kids afraid of dogs. This is an adorable story about monsters hiding under the bed. The illustrated characters look real and I like the details on what the monster looks like. It’s scary but not scary for a book. The monster actually looks nice. And there are dust bunnies under the bed like you would find in a kids room who didn’t clean very much. I also love the sign hanging on the girl’s wall! I didn’t know the book was based on a Hindu teaching take by the same name. It’s an interesting adaptation!

This book is great for young children who are just learning how to approach and be around dogs other than their own family pets. This book is written in rhyme, which makes it super fun for kids and adults alike. Porter and Midge are two dogs who meet up at the dog park with their humans. This duo are always happy to help other humans at the dog park to safely play with dog, rather it be their own pets or Porter and Midge. This book goes over things like not pulling on or hitting dogs, giving dogs their space, and even more topics like taking dogs for walks and approaching strange new dogs safely. This book could definitely be a good resource for young children who have either never had a pet, or have only ever been around their own family pets before they are around strange new dogs. I would recommend it for younger elementary school age kids, though really any child from toddlers up to late elementary would enjoy and learn from it.

This was a fun rhyming book with cute illustrations. My sons found the rhymes fun but were confused by some of the “rules” listed in the book and I too was concerned. While most of the book was filled with amazing advice, three things stuck out to me the most. 1-2. It says no head pats, to rub the dog’s chest and stomach. Every dog I have ever encountered loves head rubs and pats, and often gets defensive over chest and belly rubs, especially if someone else’s dog. 3. It states that when wanting to pet a stranger’s dog to ask, yes always. But then it illustrates the little girl just calmly walking up to the dog. When someone is approaching a stranger’s dog after being granted permission to pet them, they need to yes, no sudden movements and approach calmly but also, they need to hold out their hand palm side down and slowly approach to allow the dog a chance to smell them to greet them. Once again, I did enjoy the book but just felt that some very important things were either overlooked or misleading.

Porter and Midge is a super cute children’s book that teaches children how to be dafe around dogs and how to safely handle them. My son loves dogs and loves to pet every dog he sees. He learned to always ask permission first and always approach slowly He’s also learned there are several different types of dogs that have different jobs like being service animal for vets. He loved this book and all the illustrations. This is a great book for children of any age. I love that its educational and my son is already saying he wants more porter and midge. I highly recommend reading this cute children’s book. We can’t wait to read more from this Author.

This book written by Lois Wickstrom is based on a Hindu teaching Tale and although I am not familiar with the tale the original message shines through. Nicolas Milano does an excellent job illustrating this book about monsters. The monster is in no way visually scary. Once the little one you are reading the book to/with realises that there is not a scary monster in this story then the monster is portrayed to be more a friendly helper. Always great to find another children’s author who has a vivid imagination to convey a meaningful tale.

My Big Red Monster was an easy to read, colorfully illustrated adventure into the nightmares and fears of children. Lois Wickstrom creates an imaginative take on the fear many children have of a monster hiding under the bed. The little girl in the story has a strong, red monster under her bed but her brother doesn’t believe her. She finally confronts the monster, asking, “What do you want?” The monster tells her she can tell him what to do, but if she doesn’t, he’ll eat her. The little girl gives him various chores to do, and adds one very funny twist at the end! Cleverly written and beautifully illustrated, My Big Red Monster is a must read for any little one’s bed time!

Porter and Midge are two wonderfully happy dogs, Porter is a Mastiff and Midge is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and they live together with heir owners CJ and Lora.
As they grow and learn, they also teach their owners how to behave around dogs and in this lovely book, they pass these lessons onto the readers in a fun, informative and interactive way.
Children and adults alike can learn a lot about pet care, communication and behavioural cues both in their own pets and those owned by others.
