Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries Book 4) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by La Toya Lewis

Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries book #4)Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read every book in this series and I think this one is my favorite! Notebook Mysteries: Unexpected Outcomes starts right out with the action. Emma and Jeremy start the book by getting into a train crash while in the midst of pursuing a crime. As they get help and return to their case they find themselves with more issues. Emma has to juggle more cases with meeting her partner/fiance’s (Jeremy) mother Abbey. Abbey also happens to have a bit of a history with Emma’s father. Emma takes it all in stride while continuing to be her strong, courageous self. I love Kimberly Mullins’s writing! This book has her signature strong plot and well-written characters. It is wonderfully fast-paced and adventurous!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges (Notebook Mysteries Book 3) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Tia Martel

Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges (Notebook Mysteries book #3)Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Emma is a young, upstanding girl in the 1880s but she’s also determined. Determined to help women be equal. Determined to solve crimes. And determined to do what she can to make a difference. In Changes & Challenges, Emma’s adventures continue.

In this book, the third installment, Emma is contacted by a client’s lawyer about the reading of a will. Faced with a decision to take on an inheritance, she sets up a meeting to determine if this new development is helpful for business.

When a trip to New York is inevitable, Jeremy and Emma find themselves inseparable and upon returning feel like they can’t be apart. However, in 1885, there aren’t many things a young couple can manage easily.

As life happens, so do varying cases that deal in mystery, murder, kidnapping and drugs. As things unfold, Emma finds herself in Paris with Tony for a case. She will have to use all of her skills and knowledge to safely navigate everything thrown her way.

In this book 3, the reader is still approached in third person, as if the story is told from another perspective. The consistency between the previous books into this one is appreciated as it can get difficult to keep up with a third person view in the way this is written.

One strong difference I felt in this book was the detail. In the previous book, I felt detail was lacking and could be improved upon using the Narrator and Dear-One, however, this book has strong detail throughout and the storyline is well thought out.

I’m still fascinated by the concept of the journals reliving the cases, and I will continue reading more of the series as I can. If you choose to pick it up, reading the books in order works best to capture the information on the characters the best, but it’s far from necessary.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries book #4)Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 4 starts us with Emma in 1887. Jeremy and Emma am start off immediately chasing bank robbers after a train wreck is used to help them escape and as usual death and mystery are in the air.

Once they’ve solved one mystery and return home there’s a bit of downtime, however, Emma is determined to not let normal life bring her down. Constantly searching for the next case, Emma searches the newspaper eagerly. Soon she’s got her hands full with one case and needs help with a second case that’s unfolding.

As usual, nothing is ever as it seems and Emma and Jeremy are left wondering if anything around them is what it appears.

Unexpected Outcomes is book 4 in the series and just like before, it all flows together. I feel like the reader can get more insight into what/who the Narrator might be, and just how strongly they (Narrator) follow along with the cases.

The story is strong in detail right from the start and definitely pulls your attention easily. I felt that the length worked well with the amount of cases and detail the author worked in and I’m excited for the next installment!

I love mystery stories. I love this type of mystery story! Emma and Jeremy are a team, not just a couple. You see that more as the story progresses that they work well together in the team manor. Emma is a courier that has a lot of various “jobs” and trains are one that cause her problems as you will see in this story.

With the help of Jeremy and her family and friends she is able to solve several cases. All while being caught in the crossfires several times of danger! Jeremy wants to change child labor at a local factory after solving a case for them. You learn to love him and his heart is in the best interest of helping others. He wants to see the best in people to.

I did like how the author tied Emma and Jeremy’s families together. Like they were truly meant to be together.

I am for sure looking forward to more from this author!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Having read and enjoyed the previous books in this series, I was looking forward to this fourth instalment, and I was not disappointed. I was yet again hooked from start to finish and it was lovely being back with our heroine, Emma, and Jeremy, as they go off on adventures to solve crimes and mysteries. Due to the wonderful descriptive narrative I was transported back to 1887, to Chicago, where Emma and Jeremy are chasing bank robbers. The pair get caught up in a train wreck and have to get help from a nearby town, all whilst avoiding injuries themselves. Never one to be bored, once they are home and recovered, Emma finds a new case whilst looking through the newspaper. When a second case turns up Jeremy steps in, but they soon become entangled in each other’s cases. Whilst Emma’s case involves a missing husband and murder, Jeremy is looking into child labour and possible sabotage. They both quickly learn that things are not as they appear in either case, and have to make tough decisions. I was fully immersed in the storyline and the plot twists kept me gripped. The story is fairly fast paced and the main characters are so well defined that Emma and Jeremy feel like old friends. I hope there will be a book five!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries Book 4) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Desiree Ottinger

Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries book #4)Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book begins with a bang! Emma and Jeremy wake up after a train crash and have to ferret out the robbers they were seeking. Once found, they realize that there is more going on than just a simple robbery. The treachery runs deeper. They return home to some normalcy, only to find their fathers past has come back into town! With one father speculative on the newcomer and one welcoming, how will it all pan out? Can the new person be trusted? What will the fall out of their return cause? As the mysteries continue to roll in and be solved, the family finds themselves working together more and more to find the truth in all of their cases.

I enjoy reading these books! Emma and her family are all relatable characters. They are presented in a very down to earth manner and very believable. I like how they all have meetings and dinners together to discuss how to solve cases. And even when they can’t share the details, they still support each other the best that they can. As an added bonus, the author also puts the recipes they discuss in the book at the back!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries Book 4) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries book #4)Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book 4 in the Notebook Mysteries Series starts of fast-paced and jumps straight into the action. The year is now 1887, and we find Emma and Jeremy on a train trying to catch bank robbers. The train crash leaves numerous passengers injured, many others dead, and because of the ensuing chaos the bank robbers think that they have gotten away with their crime. Emma and Jeremy are injured but choose to ignore their own injuries and instead jump to the aid of the numerous other passengers left trapped in the other train cars. Will the bank robbers get away with their crimes while Emma and Jeremy aid the wounded train passengers?

The mysteries continue once Emma and Jeremy return home and before long Emma is knee-deep in two unsolved cases. When Emma is looking through her local newspaper two stories catch her attention, and she knows that she must pursue these stories farther. Before long she is investigating the disappearance, and suspected murder, of a local woman. Even more intriguing is that shortly after the woman disappeared her husband left the country. When Emma becomes too deeply involved in that case, she has no time to pursue the other case and must enlist Jeremy’s help. Before long Jeremy himself is involved in a case involving child labor and possible sabotage at a local factory.

This author does an amazing job of drawing the reader into the story and the lives of the characters. I have loved the characters of both Emma and Jeremy since first being introduced to them in the first book in the Notebook Mysteries Series. Emma is smart, industrious, and relentless when it comes to solving a mystery. She is quick to pick up on subtle cues and hints that most people would overlook. Jeremy is equally smart and always eager to help Emma solve a mystery. Together they make a fierce crime fighting duo. I highly recommend this book!

I have been a loyal fan of this author and series for quite some time now! Each book you get to go on a grand mystery that is afoot, and see great moments and action and work alongside Emma to get to the bottom of the mystery! This one is currently my favorite, there was so much to enjoy!

Emma and Jeremy certainly have come along way with this installment I must say! I loved their character development and moments of being together that also involved working together. What intrigued me with book, was that I should have not of expected what I expected. There were a lot of surprises and things I didn’t even take a count for! The writing as always was perfect, and I was swept away! Loved it!

Amazing series, and if you have not followed Emma from the start, I suggest you do so! I loved this series and installment so very much! A must read, and one that I very highly recommend!

Set in the period of 1880’s Chicago, Emma and her beau Jeremy solve mysteries together. Let me tell you, this book starts off with a bang and never lets up! We find Emma and Jeremy are victims of a train wreck and soon find out why the train was sabotaged. As Emma gets help from a town close by, she can help the survivors of the train wreck and collect the money they were seeking. Upon returning home, Emma finds herself wrapped up in a new mystery she found in the newspaper and Jeremy is looking into child labor and sabotage of the glass factory that hires and abuses the children. We find out more about Jeremy’s mother and the relationship between their two fathers. Wow, it’s an explosive story for sure.
I appreciate this cute little book in the Notebook Mysteries Series. I just adore the relationship between Emma and Jeremy and find them to almost be the perfect couple supporting each other along the way. The characters are so well-written and easy to identify with. The story does not let up for a moment as we travel along with Emma to solves the mysteries and to keep her family intact. Such a great clean read and the best part of the story is that the main character is a very strong female knife wielding lead. Most enticing aspect was where Emma learned her knife skills from. A definite must read for a day at the beach or lounging around the pool. The words just flow off the page and images of bustles, horse drawn carriages, and Pinkerton agents just filled my head with delightful images. Mullins has done it again!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries book #4)Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As Emma carries on from the third book, she is thrown into the world of bank robbers, while trying to find them they are pushed into trying to survive a horrific train wreck, but can they live a quiet life or get bored and want more adventures, you need to read to find out.

Emma and Jeremy have settled into life, but Emma is becoming increasing bored and with her new hobby scouring the papers for cases life will inevitable get more interesting, as Emma starts a case her time becomes more and more taken up and engages Jeremy to help with a second case but when there is a twist and both cases become entangled can the duo work to solve the cases.

There is just something about these stories where you can just let your self indulge within the pages and just let your imagination go wild. Emma as a character is brilliantly written and already the story is set within the 1800’s there is a modern feel to the character. Her relationship with Jeremy has grown in each book and that the feelings shown in each story feels you are on the growth with them and are invested in the outcome.

The story as always was well written and has you intrigued and involved with ever twist and turn which comes your way. This can be read as a stand-alone book but to be fair it is probably better if you read the first three books as you get to understand the dynamic of the characters and the progression they have made. I hope this series continues with more adventures and twists, can wait.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Change and Challenges (Notebook Mysteries Book 3) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Angela Shirley

Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges (Notebook Mysteries book #3)Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Emma receives a strange request that previous client has left a inheritance and that she needs to get to New York to review the business and papers. So, a trip is organised, and she invites Jeremy along were they start to become closer and need to understand how their relationship will develop as they are locked in a society which frowns upon co-habitation without marriage.
They are thrown into task along the way which uncovers more than they are expecting but allows Emma to continue with her business and to expand her team, but when a new case lands which has them looking into murder, kidnapping and much more, can they solve the case and also help out a friend in need all trying to navigate their feelings for each other, you will need to read.

I love this series, Emma’s character is a kick ass woman in an era of conservative views and propriety, but the author navigates this with a understanding and not patronising, this story is well written and draws you into the mysteries as you follow Emma within the story. This story is full of action and intrigue and with the added aspect of Jeremy the love interest it keeps you reading till the last page. I love the interaction between the character of Jeremy and Emma as they are trying to try to have a relationship, they both would like but trying to bypass the traditions of society is challenging within their relationship but is relatable to society today in a way.

This the third book in the series and although I believe you could read as a stand-alone story there are some recurring characters from the other books and history which may be useful in this next instalment but as I say not necessary for your enjoyment in this story. I would recommend this book if you liked the thrill of a mystery with a ton of action and twists and turns which have you feeling you are involved in the action.

Can wait to read the next story in this brilliant series.

If you haven’t read any of Emma’s adventures you may just be missing out. This book starts off with Emma and Jeremy having been in a train accident. They were on a case trying to get back some silver that had recently been stolen. Once those robbers were apprehended they headed back to Chicago to be put on a couple more cases. These characters are so interwoven yet independent which, for the time period these stories are set in, I find fascinating. Emma gets to be a strong female character and show off her amazing detective skills and logical thinking. The author has been doing a great job keeping her readers engaged. I look forward to starting the next book as soon as I find some time.

4 Stars

Notebook Mysteries- Unexpected Outcomes is the fourth book in the Notebook Mysteries series by Kimberly Mullins. We jump into the action right from the outset with Emma and Jeremy thrust into a rather big challenge. There is another crime to solve, bringing mystery, intrigue, complexity, and some adventure.
Even though this could be read as a standalone without feeling like you are missing anything major, I highly recommend reading the previous book/s before starting on this one, as I feel that knowing what happened in the previous instalments will give you a far greater appreciation of the characters, motivations, and series foundations- and will enhance your reading experience of this book.
The story is set in Chicago in 1887 where we are whisked off on an intriguing crime and investigation story with a train wreck, bank robbers, murder, sabotage, a multi-layered storyline, suspense, drama, danger, adventure, historical details, tough decisions, family dynamics, fight scenes, tension, and mystery.
Looking forward to the next book in the series, ‘Haunted Christmas’…
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Kimberly Mullins!

Emma and her partner Jeremy are back doing their thing as super sleuths in Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes. This is the fourth book in Kimberly’s YA historical adventure. Make sure you read the books in order as they follow on from each other and if you don’t you will miss out on the back stories of the characters.

Set in the 1880’s in Chicago the pair find themselves embroiled in another suspense mystery, this time with bank robbers and a train crash.

Notebook Mysteries is a for those who are a bit of a sleuth buff like Nancy Drew and those who love a good mystery.

This fourth book in the Notebook Mysteries, Emma and Jeremy are in a train wreck just outside of Statesville and find out there is a mystery to solve. Throughout the book, they end up working on several mysteries both together and apart. The story is a fast-paced rollercoaster as Emma finds herself in one situation to the next. If you haven’t read the previous books, this one reads fine as a standalone. I found this cozy mystery a fun reading appropriate for a young adult audience. There is plenty of knife fights, gun battles, dangerous actions, tender reconciliations, lost love found and restored, and threatening thugs! There is also a fabulous recipe for Heidesand, German marzipan butter cookies included at the end of the book! Like the previous books in the series, this story is a quick, fast-paced read with Pinkerton’s thrown in the mix.

This was a really good read! The storyline was enthralling and interesting and the characters were loveable, ones you can connect to. This series (and this book) can be read a standalone but it does help to read the previous books, because of certain character introductions. By one complaint (that seems to prevalent to all the books) is that the time goes back and forth in each story. I feel like it gets a bit confusing at times but other than that that’s my only complaint. This was a very gripping, cozy YA mystery story!

Unexpected Outcomes is the fourth book in the Notebook Mysteries series, set in the late 19th Century. In this book, investigators Emma and Jeremy work on cases involving valuable artefacts, missing spouses and dangerous workplaces.

I particularly like the interesting bits of history that are included. I learnt a lot, and it added to the detail of the story.

There are some great supporting characters in this series, and it’s great to see them develop as the story goes along. Jake is a particular favourite of mine, and it was good to see him and his camera making a return!

Another thing I enjoyed in this story was getting more of Cole and Ellis’ backstory. That was really interesting, and added depth as I wondered how it was all going to resolve.

This is another five star read for me! I’d recommend reading the series in order – Unexpected Outcomes throws you right into the action and it’s good to already be familiar with the characters and their world. I’d recommend this to all fans of historical mysteries!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges (Notebook Mysteries book #3)Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges by Kimberly Mullins

What a whirlwind of a story! Emma and the team definitely know how to keep you on our toes from one mystery to the next. Chicago is brewing with population, unemployment, and violence issues around this time and you can see them vividly in this novel. In this environment, it’s unlikely the Company and Pinkerton’s stay still for long! I felt like I saw more action here than in the previous novel, but I did enjoy watching Emma grow and mature in this part of her journey. Especially with her friendship with Thomas and Jeremy, her family, and her business! Emma is still someone I would love to be friends with or have in my corner no matter what. Though there were a few scenes I felt didn’t need to be included as they slowed the story down. I would definitely recommend it to young adult readers. There is a hint of romance but nothing detailed as we have seen in other books. It is tastefully done and doesn’t cross that line detail for young readers.

I’ve entirely enjoyed the Notebook Mysteries series and it just made me happy to pick up a book and go sleuthing with Emma and her gang! Book 4 is definitely my favorite out of the series! The maturity of Emma’s character and her sleuthing skills comes full circle in my view! Previously she always had to have a hand in what was going on, but as she grows older she learns to take a step back! (I feel this is very realistic and relatable!)Her hard work is definitely paying off with that she is getting noticed and making headway for women that aren’t domestic! GO EMMA! The relationships within this book, both platonic and romantic are the type we should strive for: supportive, communicative, and trusting. This took the character’s time, but I loved their journey here! I truly enjoyed the plot twists and turns she places throughout her novel but sometimes I find myself asking why did this go here? (This is most likely a reader/distracted with a toddler issue) The writing is amazing throughout, and the world just envelopes you from beginning to end! The author exposes the YA Reader to the history of the late 19th century with a twist of modernism and creates a story that is intriguing and enjoyable in some of the roughest times of the period.

The start of the novel is the best beginning to date for me! You are hurled into action, and intrigue, and just like Emma trying to take stock of what on Earth is going on!! The late 1880s are seeing Emma just grow into her skill set and the reader just can’t put this book down when she is on the case! I had to reread the last couple of pages of the previous book, but it had no connection. The way the author writes you definitely feel Emma’s emotions during this novel (as well as in previous) from frustrating to surprising situations her cases turn to the new figure that has brought drama into their lives! From trains to knife fights against the odds to kidnapping to thievery cases we see how the gang maneuvers to ensure the success of the case. I found absolute delight in the back story of Ellis and Cole, with Ellis being involved in possible intrigue! I don’t know why but it was one of my favorite bits of the novel! The whole group dynamic is tested in this novel, and you can just feel the intensity of staking claims and testing boundaries through all the characters!

Highspeed Trains, Knife fights, cases that bring drama for everyone, family drama what can make for a better novel?! NOTHING! Please read this series and enjoy!

I know I have said it time and time again but I will keep saying it, over and over because this YA mystery series absolutely deserves as much praise as possible for its creative storylines. The captivating writing talent of this author easily transports the reader back in time so much so that you really feel as though you can see everything around you and all that is happening.
This book has so many elements to it from train crashes and fights, too I guess you would call it family drama, as well as the expected mysteries to solve, that you are kept hooked from start to finish. There are plenty of twists and turns to add to your captivation as well. Do yourself a favour and read not only this amazing book but the entire series! But things are not what they seem in either of their cases. It leaves both of them evaluating their own lives. This is a great story that I really enjoyed and you don’t want to miss what happens. This is an engaging story that is hard to put down. The characters have great growth and just add to the story. This is the fourth book in the Notebook Mysteries series. I have enjoyed all the books in this series and this one is just as good. I live how the characters of Emma and her partner/lover Jeremy’s characters have grown and developed through this series.
This story starts off fast paced and has you gripped with the pair of them on the hunt for theives when a train crash derails their plan and mission. Can Emma and Jeremy keep their eyes on the target or will the theives escape?

Once the return how that isn’t the end of their adventures when both of them are set on cases where nothing is has it seems and when the past comes back to Jeremy’s life what effect will it have on everyone around them, including Jeremy, Emma and Emma’s Dad.

This is one mystery that you won’t be able to put down and you will keep reading till the end to find out what happens.

One of my favorite characters is back! Emma continues to solve mysteries in this fourth installment of the Notebook Mysteries series. This is the perfect series for anyone who likes Historical Fiction, mystery, intrigue, action, and so much more. The two main characters have a great chemistry, and it makes for a smooth ride of a story. This author hooked me from the beginning with vivid imagery that pulled me right into the action alongside Emma on her adventures. Like the installments before this, it is a quick, fast-paced read that will only leave you wanting more. I highly recommend checking out this series and book for anyone who just loves to get lost in a good story.
