Engaño (The DeWitt Agency Adventures Book 2) by Lance Charnes – review by Stephanie Driskill

Engaño (DeWitt Agency Adventures, #2)Engaño by Lance Charnes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Engaño was a good book. The characters were easy to like and to care about. Vik and her entourage were the best characters in the book. I found them to be realistic, witty, strong, and charming. At first, we see a bunch of spoiled brats living on trust funds and frittering it away on superficial things and places but hang on, there’s more to come. I found it a bit challenging to really get into the story until I was about 40 pages in but then found it hard to put down and just a fun little read. Mystery, romance, mayhem, money, and Instagram: Who knew that I would want to learn more about the social media aspect of all the apps and what it means to have followers and to be an influencer. I enjoyed the fact that the story took place in foreign countries to me as it meant I got to travel a bit through the book, and I always enjoy that! Pick up the book and follow Carson the private detective as she travels and solves a mystery, protects her “family” and just has a grand adventure!

Carson is a warrior. So I made the mistake of reading this book before the first. It explains a lot but once in awhile I had got confused. Carson can’t turn any missions down due to being into debt because of her father. In all it was a good book can’t wait to read first book and the third.

Engaño: A Carson Action Thriller (The DeWitt Agency Adventures Book 2)
By Lance Charnes

This book really kept me on the edge of my seat. I was turning the pages as quickly as I could to find out what was going to happen next. There were twists and turns, action, danger, suspense, some steamy moments, and a diverse cast of interesting characters. Carson is one tough woman, I enjoyed seeing the changes in her as the story goes. When she is sent to bring a Russian dignitaries daughter to her father, Carson finds out that everything is not quite what it seems to be at first glance. This is a must read to find out what happens. I found this book to be intriguing and exciting. I highly recommend this book.

This book was enthralling, intriguing and like reading a chick action movie. Carson is a bad ass. She acknowledges that she is not getting younger. She unfortunately is stuck doing things she isn’t fond of thanks to her father. Hunting Vyktoria down is one them, but she does it. This is one mission that is wearing and may not be what it seems. Someone is out to get Vyktoria it seems and Carson is determined to find out what is going on. The characters, the action and the story are so well written that you just can’t put it down. You have to keep reading once you start. I am sure glad that my phone is small and I can take it anywhere. This is a must read that will “blow you away!” Highly recommend.

This novel may sound like your typical mafia boss fiction based on the summary, but the characters and storyline are unbelievably developed. Carson gains so much confidence throughout the book and I was cheering her on from start to finish. Then there is Celeste. She will find a way into your heart; if she doesn’t, then I will automatically assume you have no heart.

Between the love, the hate, and the distrust, this story will have you awake at 3AM holding your breath. If you pick up this book, you will not regret it.

This is my first book by this author. I really enjoyed the suspense of this book. Charnes has an excellent way of using details to make you really picture the story in your head. It had all the elements that made this a well written, action filled thriller. I am a fan now. I will definitely be reading the first one.

I got to say, Carson is back with a strong mind, kick ass attitude, and the force you dare not tick off the wrong way! I truly love how she is written, I am someone who loves a strong female lead in books, but truly, Carson truly gets the victory of taking home the cake, and slicing it before she leaves!

The action takes off simply right away, and Carson is ready to act, and do what ever is needed. She came off as a person to me leaping from the pages, someone who believes in vengeance and justice all in the same level. This takes off after our dear Carson, well has been burnt, but gets by with what well with what a girl has to do. Doing just that brings her deep into something I don’t even think Carson had originally signed up for! The read was thrilling to say the least, action packed, loved the dealings with teh Mafia as well, simply to say, there was never a dull moment in this novel for me!

The writing was amazing, from start to finish! I was pulled in and I could not put this book down, it was good, the suspense was amazing, and the added factors with the Mafia, Crime as well as the characters Carson knows and meets truly made this an addictive read! I have only regret of not finding out of this book series sooner, loved it from start to finish!

This is a must read for sure, and comes from a high recommendation on my end. It was a book that left me thinking even after I had reached the final page and ending of the novel. To say it was put together well is imply a understatement. I was more than impressed and wanting more! Amazing read seriously!

Engaño by Lance Charnes is book two of The Dewitt Agency Adventures. This book has a little bit of everything. There is action, suspense, danger and don’t forget the plot twists.

Carson is fearless and tough. So when she has to pay back loans her father skipped out on, she does what she needs to do. This time she has to track down Viktoriya Baranova, daughter to a Russian cabinet minister, and get her back home. Seems easy on the surface but Carson gets drug in deeper than she expected. She can hold her own but it nothing appears to be as it seems.

I enjoyed this book. Carson is so fierce and independent. All the characters were honestly well developed. I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next!

Engaño (The DeWitt Agency Adventures Book 2) by Lance Charnes is probably one of the best suspense thrillers I have read this year. This book is full of everything that a suspense reader could want including adventure, car chases, shootings, and of course a couple of steamy scenes. Lance Charnes gives us a brilliant plot, Incredible characters, and vivid descriptions that hook his readers from the very beginning. This addition is an incredible installment to Mr. Charnes series, and personally I enjoyed reading it as much as the first novel in the series of not more. So if your looking for a suspense novel to grab ahold of you in the first chapter and take you on a roller-coaster ride then look no further than Engaño (The DeWitt Agency Adventures Book 2) by Lance Charnes.

If you want to get lost in the world of Carson, a spitfire with the desire to solve crimes then this is the book for you. This is the second book in the Dewitt Agency Adventures and an adventure is what you get. It is a fast paced, easy read and you will forget about everything you need to be doing because you are completely engrossed in this story. If you are a fan of espionage, mystery, and the Russian mafia then you have found what you are looking for in this book. I can NOT wait for book 3 to come out!!

This was a great read. It is the second book in the DeWitt Agency Adventures. The story is fast paced and will of action, danger and intrigue. You get completely drawn into the story and following the twists and turns that you get taken through.

It is a story about Mafia, drugs and when Carson goes on the case to return a daughter to her father she gets dragged further into the rabbit hole of this world than she ever dreamed possible.

There are a lot of characters to this story and the connection between them can get confusing at first, however I recommend sticking with the book because once you get a grip on the connections and who’s who the story then becomes an amazing read.

This has been one of the most exciting books I have read in a long time. The plot twists and turns of this book are layered with action, suspense, and intrigue. Carson in turn is like no character I have experienced before. She is sexy, worldly, trained and skilled with weapons and hand-to-hand, and extremely clever. An ex-cop she is taking care of her fathers debt to the mafia and everything escalates from there. Her attempt to bring back the Russian cabinet ministers daughter Viktoriya takes an unexpected turn and leads her chasing the girl thru the Underworld. Getting a glimpse of Carson in action makes this novel quite a page turner that is hard to put down.

This is the second thrilling installment in THe Dewitt Agency Adventures series from Lance Charnes. I did find this one a tad difficult to get into at first because it was a touch on the slow side for the take off. It was detailed and hard to get through the set up but once I got through that and we were off on the adventure and the drama took off this book had me absolutely hooked and I could not put it down until I found out how things would work out for our MC. One thing I really love about this book is how much the main character, Carson, is a badass woman. She really is a strong female lead and I loved how that came across and flowed throughout the story. It made me really love her and the book that much more. The world building made me feel as if I was parting right there in the gorgeous coasts of Spain with her and I loved every moment that I held my breath while she made her way through the suspenseful moments. I look forward to seeing what will come next!

Engaño (The DeWitt Agency Adventures Book 2) by Lance Charnes. I LOVED this book. Its a fast paced, page turning read. Its the story of Carson who is an ex cop who is paying off a debt her father owes so when she is asked to find the daughter of a Russian cabinet member she really doesn’t have a choice. When she starts nosing around into the lives of the rich things start to implode all around her. She is in the midst of killers, cheaters and liars and she’s not sure she’s going to make it out in one piece. The chase leads her to Spain where she finds the girl running around all over posting everything on social media. Once she finds her she thinks she can just put her on a plane and send her back but when people start trying to kill them she decides she better hang on to her a little while longer. Carson is a tough, hard hitting, sexy, lady that knows how to take care of herself. I can’t wait to read the next book!

3.5 Stars

Engaño is the second book in the DeWitt Agency Adventures by Lance Charnes. This is a story full of action, crime and investigation, mystery, suspense, danger, intrigue, drama, mafia, tension, and more.
An intriguing and entertaining story, although I did find it a little ‘wordy’ in parts, with some ‘info dumps’, which distracted a little from the storyline. Because of this I did find it a little difficult to ‘get into’ the story to begin with- but once I worked my way around the wordiness, the pace picked up, and the story felt smoother and flowed better.
I am curious to see what the next book has in store for us…..

Thank you, Lance Charnes!

Engaño: A Carson Action Thriller (The DeWitt Agency Files Book 3) by Lance Charnes is fast paced and a page turner. It is as intriguing as it is suspenseful, and mysterious. There are gangsters, drug dealers, car chases and deception and action, and our lead is as sassy as her badassery is well known. She takes no prisoners and is sexy and makes no apologies just as one Russian cabinet ministers’ elusive daughter is about to find out. Lots of twists, violence and a little steam will have you glued to the pages and completely engrossed and enthralled.

If you enjoy strong sassy women and suspense thrillers, then grab a copy.

This is the second book in this series by this author. I enjoyed the suspense just as much in this book as I did in the first one. This is an author that I enjoy, with his use of details he gives his stories a realistic feeling. The characters are not only relatable but also bring life to the story. This is a well written story about Carson who is an ex-cop. As she digs into the life of the rich, things start falling apart around her. As the action starts heating up, she finds herself walking a thin line with killers. What happens next I highly recommend reading this book to find out. I enjoyed this character’s growth throughout the story as well as the plot. The twists and turns kept me turning pages fast just to find out what would happen next. I really enjoyed this book and it is worth the pick up. Find out what happens with Carson next.

Chasing Clay is the third book in The DeWitt Agency Files by Lance Charnes. I love a great mystery, so when this book showed up on my radar, it immediately piqued my interest. This is a twisty little mystery- with suspense, action, danger, intrigue, drama, and more. I did enjoy the story, even though it was somewhat ‘wordy’ in parts and felt a little ‘slow’ for me in the beginning. It took me a bit of time to ‘get into’ the story. But once the pace picked up, and the story unfolded a bit more, everything flowed better, and I found my groove.
Even though this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone without feeling like you are ‘missing’ anything. I did note that the first two books in the series centre around Matt Friedrich as well, and so I will definitely be going back to read them too, and finding out what else Matt has been up to.

Thank you, Mr. Charnes!

Chasing Clay was a good 4 star read and book three in The DeWitt Agency Files series.
The book started off a little slow but once I got a little further in it took off and I couldn’t put it down.

Matt is an ex-con that has a year left on his probation. He’s tired of his probation officer breathing down his neck checking up on him all of the time. When he is given an opportunity to get off probation sooner he takes the job only problem is, he as 60 days to do it.

The job pertains to art theft of ceramics. Very expensive and historical ones. Is Matt in over his head? Can he solve the mystery and get off probation?

There were twists and turns with mystery and suspense. All of the secondary characters were great. Overall, I enjoyed this book, the author pulls you in with his writing. I was intrigued by the cover of Chasing Clay. I have never heard of Lance Charnes or his previous work until now so it was a gamble going in totally based off of the cover. I am happy that I chose to dive in and will in the future be finding more by Lance Charnes. I will say this book took me a bit to get into. I am not sure if that was because it is actually book three of a series, The DeWitt Agency Files and so I needed more back story, or if it was just a slow build up in general. I was happy I stuck to it however. This book really does blow up into a fantastic and suspenseful read that I couldn’t get read fast enough so I could know how it would all wind up. I won’t go into much more detail than what the author has divulged with the blurb because that would just ruin the way things unfold in this novel. I can’t be a spoiler, but I will tell you to take my word for it. If you love a suspenseful and twisty read then look no further this is your next read!

Chasing Clay (The DeWitt Agency Files, #3)Chasing Clay by Lance Charnes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Chasing Clay is the third book in Lance Charnes’ The DeWitt Agency Files series. It’s a thrilling crime mystery, following ex-con Matt as he attempts to complete a mission for the agency that is guaranteed to bring his probation to an early end – either with his freedom or his incarceration.
Like the rest of the series so far, Chasing Clay focuses on art theft. As the name suggests, this book centres around ceramics. This was fascinating to read – I’m pretty sure all of the art crime books I’ve read so far have been about paintings so it was great to learn about a different art form with all of the history and culture surrounding it. Helpfully, Matt is also a bit out of his depth with ancient Asian ceramics so as he studies we get useful bits of information.
It’s a clever, action-packed book. The characters have understandable motivations (and reservations about what’s happening). It’s got plenty of mystery to keep you turning the pages!
I came into the series at this book, and I found I could follow the story well enough. Everything’s and everyone’s introduced to you and you get plenty of background. So if you’re particularly interested in ceramics you could jump in here. Having been captivated by this book, though, I’d now like to go back and read the previous two!
For me, this is a five star read. I’d recommend it to fans of art and mystery, particularly anyone interested in Thailand.
