Caged Fire follows EmVee, a girl who has a mysterious past on her continuing journey to find her family’s secrets with the help of some new friends. One day, someone from her past reenters her life. From there, she struggles between finding her family, figuring out the family secrets, and figuring out if she could trust this person from her past.
Full of relatable characters, Caged Fire keeps the reader guessing and intrigued. Caged Fire is unique and there was not a single moment I did not like. Emotions such as confusion, love, mistrust, betrayal, and others are clearly portrayed and makes the reader feel right along with the characters.
Caged Fire is a must read. It is a quick, fun read that will keep you guessing. I highly suggest reading the prequel Insatiable Darkness first, as it sets the stage for Caged Fire, but you would not be entirely lost if you decided not to. In all, Caged Fire is a must read!

Caged Fire is Book One in The Vigilant series by L.M Preston. It comes after the novella length prequel that set us up for the series.
This story continues what we started in the prequel and is another intriguing YA fantasy with even more going on for EmVee and co. She is in the thick of things here, facing challenges and situations she never even contemplated only a short while ago. Events have left her shaken. Now she has little choice but to confront the past, monsters, and so much more- life is about to test her like never before.
I wonder where we go from here. So, I’m off to explore Book Two…
Happy Reading!

Thank you, L.M. Preston.

EmVee has just moved to a new town with her parents where they have opened a new business and they all have a passion for boxing and EmVee herself has a dream to go semi-pro with it and although this new place is small, she is hoping that she can still achieve that dream. So when she heads to school for her first day, all she can think of is that all the jocks are drop dead gorgeous and the cheerleaders are stunningly beautiful, but they are also quite strange, not to mention the other pupils there as well, who are also a bit unusual, but as soon as she arrives, she is befriended by two of the jocks, Kayson and Silas.

As she settles into a new routine and making new friends, she notices that things are a bit off and starts to worry that her parents have gotten in a bit over their heads and EmVee starts to suspect that things are not what they seem and she decides to investigate, but will she and her friends be able to solve the mystery before things go from bad to worse and the danger becomes too much? This is a fantastic prequel which gets you hooked into the mystery and the characters in the series in the best possible way and leaves you wanting more.

I can never get enough of this wonderful author. Their works of the writing they create always keep me entertained and wanting more. Each book they complete, and I read, I truly devour!

This one was a great start to a thrilling new series. I loved the characters and what they had brought to the table. They had their own sense of drama, being funny, and going after what the journey would bring. The book had a lot of action and great description of visual effects. The author really crafted a magical book, and I could not put this one down. I loved the pace of the story as well. I could not let this go. The talk of magic and how it played its part was wonderful and full of intrigue as well. I could not get enough of this wonderful book. It was a epic journey and adventure, that I long to take again!

Again, love this author for all that they create! This book was such a fun and thrilling read. I can’t wait for the next installment! Highly recommend this must-read book, and awesome start to a new series

You leap right in and hit the ground running with this short story. Caged Fire is fast-paced and action packed. It is a paranormal story mixed with fantasy and science fiction. It is written in the third person so it took me a while to get into flow of it. Lots of action and suspense, betrayal and mystery, love and sacrifice see our heroine on a journey to find her dad’s killer.

Emvee was changed in a world full of magic and werewolves. A dark world she knew nothing about. Now she needs help but she has no idea who she can to trust.

The story leaves you with many more mysteries left to be answered.

Insatiable Darkness (The Vigilant Book 0) by LM Preston

Insatiable Darkness is the prequel to The Vigilant Series and is a YA/Fantasy that’s packed with mythology, mystery, drama, and some supernatural. This is a very short story that can be read in one sitting. This is a fairly new author to me and I look forward to seeing what other books she has written. I was very intrigued by the storyline and the characters. The characters are fun relatable and fully developed. This is a story about EmVee. EmVee and her family move to a new town where her parents run a gym. They are professional Boxers and Emvee is as well. She starts a new school where something weird is happening. Several sports students have gone missing and whoever is doing it is leaving behind certain parts. Can they figure out who it is and why before its too late? There’s a couple of twists and turns that had me turning the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I don’t want to give away to much but I do highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

EmVee and her family moved to a new town called Newport. It did not take long for EmVee to realize that there was something strange about this town and find that her family was in danger. Insatiable Darkness follows EmVee while she tries to find who is threatening her family, unknowingly endangering her life as well.
The characters in Insatiable Darkness are relatable and mysterious. The story is full of twists, turns, and surprises. Some of the wording was awkward, making it not flow as smoothly as it could, which is why I did not rate it a 5-star. Still, Insatiable Darkness is a fun, quick read and sets the stage for the next book in the series.

Very quick introduction to the series. EmVee is the new kid in town, who moved in with her trained boxer parents. In an effort to make an impression, EmVee quickly makes some friends and gets the notice of a couple of good looking high school guys. After getting herself in trouble a couple of times, she has to resort to sneaking out to find out what brought her parents here, any why kids are going missing.

This book offers lots of surface information, and quickly. It doesn’t get terribly involved, but keeps you interested in the story and coming back for the next in the series!

EmVee has just moved to a new town with her family. Her parents own a gym, which caters to those of the MMA world. EmVee is training to be a MMA fighter. Everything about this town seems all cool at first, until school starts. There is a lot of suspicion, EmVee learns, about the house that her parents have chosen for them to live in. Some very sinister things have apparently taken place here. Oh, and this school is full of some hot boys but EmVee has sworn off dating. Guys don’t like her once they find out she’s a fighter. EmVee is trying her hardest to change her hardcore image but this girl at school is draining her social battery faster than she can handle. Can she shake her off while keeping this new image?

This is a prequel and a super short, one sitting read. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline, and the action that takes place. I look forward to reading more of this series!

This book is amazing. I was entranced from the minute I started reading. EmVee and Kayson seemed to have the most chemistry but then there was Silas. Rachel seems like a good friend, and then there is Megan. I don’t think any of these people are what they seem and EmVee is stuck trying to figure out why her family was brought to this town in the first place, what her dad has to do with any of it. The ending of course left me dying for more, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This YA fantasy book is part of a series but can be read alone. This mystery, danger, supernatural book is fast paced and attention grabbing. This book is about Reece, the car loving, adrenaline seeking car racer who finds himself in a race he didn’t bargain for.
Reece finds himself in a world he thought only existed in books, then forced to make tough decisions, with tough lessons with even tougher consequences. Save the love of his life or save his family, Can he save both?

There is love, betrayal and secrets. This book had me hooked from the very beginning and can’t wait to read more by this author

I enjoyed this YA novel and where it took me. It was not what I expected when I started, but I loved where it took me as it ended. Its fast paced, suspenseful, a touch of romance, and definitely dramatic. Reece was a great character and easily to relate to. He was much more than what he seemed to be. Growing into his own and faced with many hard decisions he had to choose his path wisely. He wanted no ones sacrifice or any lives to be lost in vain. There were many great elements to this book and its a guaranteed once you begin you will not stop until the end.

An easy to read YA fantasy! The book kept me invested from the start. I will admit, I had not realized that this was book 3.5 in a series, but I followed the plot with no problem. I think I would have felt more for the characters had I read the other books, so I intend to go back and do that now to fill in the gaps. Though it was quick, it was interesting enough that I want more. The story seems more complex, this seems like only a small part. I am excited to see where else the story goes!

This is an easy to read YA fantasy that has an interesting plot. Personally, I think that this book would be best read in order however it can be read as a standalone. This felt like it was quite a slow build storyline, developing the characters and the plot throughout the whole story. I didn’t realise how engaged with it all I had become until I found myself not able to stop reading.
I think this series is perfect for the age range it is aimed at but also holds appeal to those beyond that. The author is doing a brilliant job of creating a lasting series and I am really looking forward to the next book.

This story is labeled as book 3.5 in the series. The overall story can be read as a standalone, but you’d probably relate to the characters better if you’ve read the previous books. This story ends in a cliffhanger as a lead into the next book.

Overall, I liked the idea of the story, but it felt like the main character was a bit slow to pick up on the clues around him. He knew something was up, but it seemed like it took him too long to start putting things together. The most interesting things happened toward the end of the book.

Interesting characters. Decent plot.

I can never get enough of this gifted author. They have such a talent for the writing they do, as well as the plot and characters that they create! Every book is a adventure that is a wonderful read!

I loved this one for various reasons. Hot guy? Check. Fast cars? Check. Hot guy on a journey like no other? Very much check! Reece was a great character, I loved how he was written and his character development. For me the world he discovers really made this book for me. He learned a lot, as well as questioned a ton. Everything that happens in the plot leads to something else. There was a special magic looming, and don’t get me started on the epicenes of the sword that had to deal with Reece ! The story was very unpredictable and was a fun adventure which I very much loved reading! Loved this one!

Once again a very much wonderful delight of a treat by a wonderful author I very much enjoy. I could not put this one down, it held me with a tight grip! Very much a high recommendation and a must read!

Sword of Darkness is an intriguing YA fantasy story. It is a fast-paced quick read. As I have said before I would have liked to see the story be a bit longer. It has taken me awhile to get fully immersed into the series but I have finally got there. With each book the characters and their stories have grown on me. There is mythology and mystery, danger and supernatural/paranormal beings, magic and secrets, love and betrayal and so much more that I am sure that any YA fantasy lover will enjoy.

This is Reece’s journey. He loves the thrill of adventure, the rush of adrenaline, the thrill of the chase, the thrill of fast cars. Unfortunately, he may have just gotten involved in the wrong race.

I look forward to getting more in future books.

“Reece shrugged on his black and red leather jacket. He tapped his boot to the floor to adjust his feet within the new pair. Then he closed the door to his workshop. He’d done it. The sword was nearly finished, and it was beautiful. He’d sent Jeb a picture and told him it was ready for the buyer he’d found. It wouldn’t take long for Reece to add the finishing touches. The metal was indescribable. It literally vibrated when he touched it. Power of some sort was hidden within its fiber, and Reece felt shocks run through his body whenever he held the blade. This was the sword of a warrior, maybe one that was in some epic fantasy adventure.”

“The wet street, and street lamps, most of which were broken, lit the path to the race, with a weird wooded area on one side and the abandoned neighborhood on the other. Megan sent him a text of the address that warned it would self-destruct in ten minutes. Then some virus actually removed her name, the message, and her number from his cellphone. This place, this town, was like being caught in a horror movie set-up, and it was changing his siblings and him in ways he’d never thought possible. Rei, who had been bubbly and the family cheerleader, had become secretive, depressed, and rarely smiled. Dexter had told him there were kids being murdered from the high school and that was why he’d been pulled over and got jailed for being out during curfew over a traffic ticket. The other odd thing was that his sister EmVee had been sneaking out, even staying gone for the entire night, and getting in trouble with her parents. And his parents—they’d been arguing, and his mother was scared—she was never scared. She was the strongest woman he knew, but he caught her begging their father to take them back to New York to save them.
Reece sighed. He wanted to do something to help, but he didn’t know what. His family was falling to pieces, and he had been part of the problem with Zamina and racing. Maybe tonight, he needed to change that?”

Sword of Darkness is Book #3.5 in the Vigilant series by L.M Preston. It is another YA fantasy with mystery, danger, investigation, the supernatural, dramatic developments, friendship, family, racing, fate, and more.
This is fast-paced which makes it a fairly quick and easy read. This builds on the story/s from the other book- this time we get Reece’s part in the overall adventure. I like that it adds to what we already know- and helps to build on the bigger ‘picture’ being painted. #colourmeintrigued
I find that I am settling into this series now, and am invested in the characters and the story. The series has definitely gotten better as it unfolds.
Bring on the next book!
Happy Reading!

I am in love with this series. Reece has gotten himself in a little bit of a tight spot entering a not-so-normal car race. You just might fight for your life in this one. a beatiful girl shows up and starts flirting with him, bringing on the ire of two bullies. Bring on the action and drama of the story. Hook and Ora are strongly advising him to stay away from this girl. Megan says he should too (but she’s not all she says she is). Secrets abound in this town. Just ask Jeb about them. Reece is good with metalwork and Jeb has him make a sword. It turns out to be needed because some heavy action is coming down the pipeline at the end. I love the drama, the plot twists and characters. I feel the author does a fantastic job of making you think you might know what is going on (but not really. Remember those secrets..). One of the best fantasy/paranormal series for young adults that I’ve read recently. I’m a fan now.

Reece had a thirst for the adrenaline rush that came with taking risks. He’d avoided paying the price for most of his push of the envelope until he met one person that used his lust for fast cars, wicked weapons, ditching school, and beautiful girls to trap him in the most seductive ways. Someone he least expected put her life in danger to save him from himself, and he wouldn’t waste her sacrifice. This book is in the YA genre and I feel that anyone would appreciate this book if they like supernatural stories. This book is a very quick read and can be finished in a day. The characters in this story have great depth and feel real emotions that any teen would feel in this type of situation. Moving to a new town can cause anyone some anxiety but throw in missing kids and it just hits different emotions. This is also a prequel to the series and I am hoping it will give some more background into the characters as the series continues. I felt a little disconnect with them during this story but not enough to make a huge difference. The mysteries in the book keep you hooked throughout and turning the pages to see what happens. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series to continue to build on these characters and to continue the mysteries. EmVee is a strong MC this this book. She is a high school boxer from a family of professional boxers. She first feels like an outsider as once usually does when one moves to a new town. She then meets Silas and Kayson and she starts feeling like she belongs. Just as she feels this way teens start disappearing and nobody knows what’s going on. The twists and turns in this prequel made do lots of double takes and scratching my head! I enjoyed reading this and the characters were likeable. The writing was done well and had a good pace to it.
