The Serpent Awakens by Luna Saint Claire – Review by Ashley McMillon

The Serpent AwakensThe Serpent Awakens by Luna Saint Claire
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my first time reading from this author and I was thoroughly impressed by the twists and turns of Nico’s path in life. Though I did not read book one, I could understand the amount of damage that Nico had done prior to this book. I’m always taken aback by a deep story line that continues to build and build. The author uses this book to try and explain the devilish nature of Nico, and appeal to the empathetic side of us. I was definitely on a complete roller coaster ride witnessing Nico return home and relive his treacherous past! There were so many times during this story that I felt pained by his circumstances, yet it was also completely exhausting. This was an exceptional read!

This book was very emotional and inspirational! This book is so well written, which made it an easy read. Getting to experience Nico’s journey and watching him traverse the world through his trauma was both tragic and uplifting. The redemption in this story makes it so worthwhile, and Luna Saint Claire is a master with her words.

Intriguing
This is a psychological thriller filled with emotion and thought-provoking insight. The author cleverly weaves a story of self-discovery and believing in one’s abilities to evolve into a better person. Nico was an interesting character and told from his perspective, the story is tinged with his persona. A worthy read.

Nico is a celebrated yoga master living in Los Angeles who has always relied on his charm and good looks to get him what he wants. When he is viciously attacked and nearly killed Nico starts to question his life and the choices he has made. He decides to return to his hometown of Buenos Aries in the hopes that he can figure out what his purpose in life is. Once there, he is excited to be reunited with old friends, family and an old lover but quickly realizes it is not what he was looking for. His grandmother persuades Nico to trek through Peru on a quest to find his spiritual teacher. This sends Nico on a journey of self-discovery as he navigates his way through past trauma and tries to find his place in the world.

As someone who has tried to navigate through their own personal trauma, I found Nico’s journey to be inspirational and motivating. Nico came across initially as someone who seems like he only cares about himself and his own needs. Once you get to know him better you start to see that there is more to him than he lets on and that his past traumas have impacted his life in a negative manner. It was interesting to read about his journey of self-discovery as he navigated his way through the trauma to move forward. A truly uplifting and inspiring read.

It’s not easy when your world is rocked and you suddenly realize that you’re trash. Well, maybe that’s a little harsh but let’s face it, if you know Nico Romero, he is rough around every single edge. He is the character you love to hate. Yet, the more you read about his life and his story, the more you find yourself hopeful for his new journey.

I’m a fan of the redemption arc so I really enjoyed this story. As the reader, you feel like you have walked through hellfire and back with him. It’s quite exhausting yet absolutely fulfilling.

The Serpent Awakens by Luna Saint Claire. This is one of those books that you will continue to think about long after you are finished reading it. This is the book following The Sleeping Serpent and its a emotional thriller. Its about Nico who is probably one of the most selfish characters I’ve read about. He is all about Nico and thinks he’s the best at everything. As you delve into the book you find out that he is really not so good after all and he’s made a lot of bad choices. As he is shown this side of himself he realizes that maybe he’s not as great as he thought he was. There are also situations you find out about that make you a little more compassionate towards Nico because you can actually see why he did some of the things he chose to do. As he is laid bare before us along with Nico I was torn up emotionally. This is one of those books that make you think, hard about life and your choices. Read this Psychological thriller to find out what all the hype is about.

This story is a unique read in how it chooses to take an antagonist from the previous book in the series (the sleeping serpent) and giving him his ‘redeeming’ arc. In this book it is clearly conveyed the struggles that Nico has had, and how they made him who he is and why he makes the choices that he does. What makes this story even better is the spiritual aspects, and how important the journey of doing , as the age old adage goes, “talking the talk, and walking the walk.” I feel like this fits Nico as well because he really is all talk at the beginning of the story, but through out the reader really gets to see the growth and humility he gains.

This is book two of the series. It reads well as a stand alone book. I enjoyed this book and will go back and read the first one! The Serpent Awakens is an awesome story about transformation and a personal journey to finding one’s true self. The story of Nico’s Kundalini awakening and self-discovery, is a deep archetypal arc of Nico’s struggle and path which leads to rich character development. Luna Saint Claire beautifully weaves the psychological, spiritual and emotional motivation of her characters! I thoroughly enjoyed this well written book!

The Serpent AwakensThe Serpent Awakens by Luna Saint Claire
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Serpent Awakens is an emotional psychological thriller. As with everything I have read by Luna it is well crafted and well written and flowed easily.

Our main character is self-absorbed and quite nasty and one character that you love to hate and hate to love. Nico is all about one thing and that is Nico. As we delve into his story of redemption you start to realise there is far more going on with this character. His journey is quite emotional and raw as he is laid bare showing all his bad but then we start to see there is some good. By the time you have finished the story you feel like you are the one on this beaten journey and have come out the other end.

This intriguing read well continue to play on your mind long after you have finished it such is the effect of Luna’s narrative.

I can’t wait for more.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first time I’ve read anything by Luna Saint Claire but was not disappointed. Personally, I felt this story started off a little slowly and introduced many names into the mix (almost to the point of confusion), but leveled off fairly quickly. Right off the bat, I wanted to hate Nico; he seemed selfish, abusive, and narcissistic. But, the continued story gave me an inside look into Nico’s past that allowed me to better understand the circumstances that made Nico the way he is. I don’t think his past can excuse the way he treated people, but it does help understand him a little better. Luna Saint Claire creates such a vivid, expressive story that I felt like I was right there in the middle of Nico’s travels. The characters are diverse, realistic, and very well-written. Overall, The Serpent Awakens is a wonderfully written book that delves into a person’s spiritual and personal awakening.

The Serpent Awakens by Luna Saint Claire is the companion book to The Sleeping Serpent. It is from Nico’s perspective- so it made for quite and intriguing read considering what happened in The Sleeping Serpent, and Nico’s part in that story. This is psychological fiction done well- with plenty of creative touches to keep things interesting and flowing smoothly. There is a story of struggle, challenges, spiritual renewal, secrets, a search for meaning/belonging, longing, new age/spiritual/universal ideas/truths, surrender, hope, and more.
In The Sleeping Serpent, Nico was bad news, but even so you couldn’t help but feel drawn to him and see his appeal, even as everything unfolded. So, it was interesting to see him stripped bare here- and then follow him as he struggles to find his way.
Again, as with the first book- this was quite thought-provoking- and isn’t a story I will soon forget. Another intriguing read from Ms. Saint Claire. Looking forward to seeing what she does next!
Happy Reading!

Thank-you, Luna Saint Claire!

This was my first read of this author. Never in my life have I met a main character I hated as much as Nico (well in the beginning anyway), in a storyline that kept me in its clutches until the very last word. This book was intense and made me look for further meaning. I really love that the author brings about a kind of spiritual recreation and really pushes through to the readers the human experience and its importance in our lives. This book left me mind blown!! I loved every last word!

The Serpent Awakens by Luna Saint Claire – Review by Maryn Belling

Luna Saint Claire is a gifted author. She’s clearly well-read, skilled at developing characters, familiar with deep archetypal sagas, and adept at keeping a story line moving. What she accomplishes in less than 300 pages is truly remarkable. Whether you’re a devotee of psychological thrillers or a first-time reader, this story and its adherence to excellent story-craft will set the bar by which you judge other books.

Ms. Saint Claire begins by setting up our main character as someone we don’t want to like. She gets right into the reader’s moral conscience – we want the devil to get his due as the saying goes.

Nico is a user and abuser of women and drugs. As a teacher of Kundalini Yoga, he’s supposed to be a caretaker of others’ spiritualities so they can heal through the practice.Despite his best intentions, Nico couldn’t be farther from a true yogi than if he were on a vintage Cartoon Network episode with a side-kick named BooBoo and a jaunty little hat. He’s exerting a vampire-like compulsion on his students. Women who are otherwise strong, talented, independent, resourceful, and successful are falling under Nico’s spell

When Nico’s reality brings him back to his roots, we still want to dislike him. But we also start to see that he’s not 100% a monster. He seeks freedom from his affliction. As if Sisyphus’ boulder were one’s spirituality.

Redemption and psychological terror intertwine in The Serpent Awakens.

What a beautiful and emotional story this turned out to be. The journey that Nico goes on and the path he takes were so well portrayed. I was drawn into this book right from the start and loved watching how things played out. This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up. I have enjoyed reading her books from the start, including this one. I enjoy how she is able to pull me into the story with her creative characters. They are characters that are written with a lot of heart and soul. They are characters that you won’t soon forget. They have great growth throughout the story. This made the story easy to read and had me coming back for more. I wanted to know what was next for Nico. This is a fast paced story that is hard to put down. A story that took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. This is a great story that I really enjoyed and I highly recommend it.

This is a very beautifully written story about faith and hope and discovering who you really are. The author does an incrediable job with the story of Nico and his journey back to the person he was always meant to be. As a reader i was completely captivated by his story and transition and how he overcomes all the challenges thrown at him along the way.
The author makes you feel a part of the journey like you are experiencing every thought and sensation as it happens. Some parts are hard to read but it’s just life and we all have to go through hard times to progress and become better people.

Nico’s character at the beginning I wasn’t too sure of. He was very focused on himself and using people to get what he wanted but as his journey progressed I saw the transformation of Nico and it was inspiring.

I don’t want to give more away but it is definately a must read if you are looking for something relatable to life with a lot of hope and faith.

This book was mesmerizing for all which it held. I could not turn away as I read, written exceptionally, with all the beauty of the world possible. The emotions were hard to feel at times, but it made the book!

Nico was special. You could get that from reading about him and his journey. He faced many things. Faith was a big play in the story. I found that really important and admirable, but it really made Nico who he was. Some things as I mentioned were hard to feel on Nico’s journey, but everything he endured made him the person he was at the end. To me this is a story that should not be overlooked or passed up. Everything Nico experiences, you experience as well. Mystifying and heartfelt, and full of beauty! Loved it!

Such a wonderful book full of heart and inspiration. I could not have asked for more. I was truly filled with emotions as I read. Beautiful writing. Highly recommend this must read book.

The Serpent Awakens by Luna Saint Claire – Review by Maryn Belling

Several content warnings are missing from this text; although it goes out of its way to assure us it’s a work of fiction. Maybe you read the first book and already know you can overcome the misogyny, polyamory, abuse (physical, mental, spiritual), drugs, and controlling (compelling) of cult-like devotees. Maybe you’re reading this book on its own.

The author is clearly well-read and gifted at developing characters and a story-line.

Nico is a user and abuser of women and drugs. As a teacher of Kundalini Yoga, he’s supposed to be a caretaker of others’ spiritualities so they can heal through the practice. Whether to appeal to the reader’s compulsion to fix others or to discredit holistic practitioners; Nico couldn’t be farther from a true yogi than if he were on a vintage Cartoon Network episode with a side-kick named BooBoo and a jaunty little hat. Unfortunately he’s compelling his devotees.

If you’re looking for a philosophical bent to your brooding bad boy, this book is probably for you. Poor Nico; nobody understands him & his Sisyphean quest except for you & Albert Camus. If you’re looking for a story where the devil gets his due, this isn’t it.

Unless you need an adult version of Nick Jr complete with a talking jaguar and cultural appropriation, skip the book and upgrade your jam to Calvin Harris’ new album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2.

I found the book to have a few trigger warning areas. Overall, it was inspirational as you read about Nico’s journey returning to Buenos Aires to find himself. He went on quite a journey. The writing is beautiful. The characters and details of the journey are quite fascinating. There is so much in the story to be soaked in. I am positive that I will be reading it again. It is a story of faith as you follow the journey of Nico. He develops it on his travels. It’s a tale that must be read.

My debut novel The Sleeping Serpent was a psychological drama about a woman’s struggle to break an obsessive bond with her yoga master. Essentially, it was about the redemptive power of love. The Serpent Awakens is a sequel of sorts that can be read on its own. In the tradition of Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse and The Odyssey, the story follows Nico’s journey to the shamans in the mystical Q’eros Nation where he realizes he can’t go home again. Most people search inwardly while others have made arduous quests to find their reason for being by leaving everything behind.

Prior to becoming a writer, I worked as a costumer in the film industry. I now spend my time writing, taking long walks with my husband, going to the gym, painting, and reading. We love to travel between our homes in Los Angeles and New York and enjoy the summer in the mountains.

I learned with the first book that I actually enjoy being quiet and alone with the creative process. This was a big help during the pandemic when I was writing the next book, The Serpent Awakens. Writing has taught me patience and to allow the spirit to guide me – that everything will come in time.
