A Song of Salt and Secrets is part of the Mythic Academy series by Amanda Marin, this is an enjoyable short read that looks at a part of the supernatural community that I don’t think I have ever read about before, sirens. The story follows Corisande, who is a senior at the mysterious Magwich Academy, a school designed to keep sirens safe from the human world. Unfortunately, even though she tried her best not to, Corisande unexpectedly allows a human to hear her siren song and although she saves him, it may not be enough to save herself. I liked this book, I read it all in one sitting and it kept me engaged throughout. I wish there was a bit more character development though as I feel that you didn’t get to really get to know them properly. I did like that it was a new take on a supernatural story and would read more in this series.

This is the 3rd book in the Bold Journeys series. I have loved all the books in the series so far and this one was just as good. Even though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone and fully enjoyed. This author does an amazing job of researching her characters and story before actually creating the book this makes her story and characters realistic, authentic and explores the struggles that people face in their lives no matter their age, gender or race. As a reader it gives you a deep insight and a better understanding of other people’s lives. This story contains lots of emotion, drama, betrayal and angst as well as a romance which in some people’s eyes should exist. But you can’t help who you fall for. In this story we follow Barbara. She is a strong black woman who has always fought hard for her position in life. As a successful lawyer she believes the promotion in the company is hers. Her life seems perfect until she catches her partner cheating on her. Fast forward and she finds herself at the her wedding but it’s not her getting married. She gifted the wedding to her best friend. As Barbara deals with all the emotions around this situation she meets Sebastian the connection between them is instant and they can’t deny the chemistry so they plan to reconnect when they return home. Could Sebastian be the man for Barbara all along?
Sebastian’s life hasn’t been easy either. Growing up in a rough part of town he has had his fair share of trouble and struggles, however as a successful lawyer his life seems to be changed for the better and when he meets Barbara he can’t believe his luck When he returns he has a promotion to look forward to and a re connecting with Barbara however things don’t go to plan.
When the promotion that Barbara was certain was hers was given to someone else, it was a punch in the gut but what makes it worse is the person who it was given to was Sebastian and shortly after Barbara is fired.
Can the couple work through this? Will Barbara see it as a betrayal if Sebastian takes the promotion? Why was Sebastian given the promotion over all the work Barbara has done, could it be due to the colour of her skin? As Barbara tries to fight for social justice against a world and a system that is trying to keep her down will Sebastian stand and fight beside her?
This is a real eye opening story about how there are still times when the colour of someone’s skin has an effect on their life and the way people view them. It shows the struggle people go through just to be seen as equals. It is a beautiful written and thought provoking read.
This was a cute book. I liked the rhyming and found it engaging for kids. I could see using this at school as a prelude to our zoo project. It is something enjoyable for a younger child demographic. I would recommend.

I went into this not knowing it was part of a series, but it still was a good stand alone story. Colin shows up to work early one morning only to discover his boss has been murdered, and Colin immediately becomes number one suspect. Luckily his sister Kathleen, and Daniel the coroner, believe he is innocent and they set out to find the real culprit. Of course this story happened before a DNA database or anything was made to help them, so it was tricky and provided many twists in the story. I’m not usually drawn to historic fiction like this was, but I do love a good mystery, and was pleasantly surprised by this one. It was a great cozy mystery that had me hooked from the very beginning and I’ll definitely be picking up the first book as well as anything else put out by this author.

Under the Bandage By Lois Wickstrom is children’s book that children ages 5-8 can enjoy. We loved reading this book and learning about how our bodies fight off bacteria/infection. We learned about different kinds of bacteria and infections how to treat them. We’ve read several books by this author and we love her colorful illustrations that help bring the story to life. I love that my son actually learns something useful from reading this authors books. We highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. We look forward to reading more from this Author.

I read Will You Pretend Marry Me as my first read for this author, not realizing it was part of a series, and it can easily be read as a standalone. The story itself gave me some Hannah Montana vibes, with the secret identity singer situation but it is defintely more than just that. The main character lives a double life; as Abigail, she is a normal, run of the mill girl, absolutely normal. Abigail struggles with self identity, and wonders if anyone will ever accept her… As Kaia she is an international popstar; confident and outgoing. After finishing up a long 6 month world tour, Kaia is just over it all. The fake persona, the wigs and makeup, the whole gig has just drained her. Realizing she needs an escape, and a break, she heads to Maine for a few months to be a student teacher as herself, Abigail. Enter Everett Reynolds, VP and teacher at the school she is working at. The initial encounters between Abigail and Everett are interesting, and not at all a “love at first sight” encounter, as some sass and banter are the center of their conversations. Just Ducky is the first book in the Weird Shifters series by C.A King. It is a superb, very original, and cleverly crafted paranormal romance. There is a bit of a fairytale-esque feel to the story, as well as a ‘quest’ component- which means plenty of action, adventure, danger, and high stakes. This shifter romance had me intrigued from the moment I laid eyes on the title, and then the blurb only fired my curiosity even more- so I was excited to dive in as soon as it hit my Kindle. With unusual shifters, as well as vampires, wolves, agendas, an opposites attract element, forced proximity, magic, fate, humour, banter, mystery, tension, intrigue, suspense, the threat of war, and time running out- made this an entirely engrossing read. Ducky has felt like a ‘duck out of water’, excluded and made fun of- and treated like an outcast for her whole life. But when she discovers that the shifter of her dreams may be on the look out for a bride, Ducky can’t help but watch longingly from the ‘sidelines’. But then fate thrusts her into a situation that brings her up close and personal with her heart’s desire- only he doesn’t realise ‘who’ she is. With the threat of war on the doorstep, Ducky would love to be able to help find a solution to the problem- but what can she, a little duckling, possibly be able to do? And what happens when her secrets are revealed? If you love paranormal stories, sweet romance, adventure, and a fairytale feel, then you will definitely want to get your hands on a copy of this book. I love this series. It makes me so happy to have a kind of prequel to read. Healing Hearts is a wonderful book in the Echo Series. A series I never wanted to end. So I’m beyond thrilled to have more. I love what the author presents to the reader. Making the characters relatable. Yes it’s a book so events happen faster than typically in life, but that doesn’t take away from the characters. When Gene witnessed an accident happen he didn’t hesitate to help and assess the situation. What he didn’t expect was to find a woman that was going to turn his life upside down. Trying to find himself and deciding if he wants to place roots or still flow in the wind. He kept reminding himself Amanda was a patient he can’t cross that line. Yet there was something about her that kept pulling him in. Everyone around her thinks she’s crazy. Amanda is convinced she swerved out of the way of a teenager girl the night of her accident. However, nobody believes her. Even Gene aka Dr. Rowland doubted her. Which really bothered her. She was drawn to him. thought he was on her side. Her high school crush has now become her companion in trying to locate the girl that caused her accident. What they ended up stumbling upon was so unexpected. Will they find the girl? What will they do about the lust between them? A book you will start reading and not want to put down. The beginning of a series that’s well worth the read. Yet a book that can be read alone. Healing Hearts reminds the reader that we are all human and sometimes listening to your gut is the best thing to do.

My entire household always loves it when I bring home a book by this author! This one had little bits of educational information on most pages but still short enough to keep my youngest’s attention. I struggle with getting him to keep his bandaids on, so this was perfectly timed and right up his alley. The story has rhyming throughout which had us bopping along with the rhythm. I think it was really cool for both of my kiddos to see illustrations explaining how our bodies heal the bumps and scrapes that we get. This is definitely one of our top favorite books by Lois Wickstrom and hope we get to see more like this in the future! I highly recommend picking this up and sharing with the young ones in your life whether that’s at school, at a doctor’s office, or at home.

My 7 year old daughter has been learning about the human body at school and just yesterday was telling me about the body’s blood cells. I felt that Under the Bandage by Lois Wickstrom would be a great addition to her library. It was cute to see her brain connect things she’s learning while reading a children’s story and it welcomed a conversation about what she’s learned which is always cool. As a pediatric nurse and a mother, I really enjoyed this book.

Just Ducky is Book 1 of the Weird Shifters series and when I saw the cover I was already intrigued. Never read a duckling shifter story until now and I love the uniqueness of this storyline. Drama, intrigue, shifters, royalty and greed…I really enjoyed this book.
There is a rift between Vampire Lord Kobreon and King Hammerhead as King Hammerhead’s daughter is gravely ill and Kobreon is trying to find a cure so there is peace between them. Ducky is just trying to survive each day, being a unique shifter that does not get much respect from others. Intrigue draws Ducky to Kobreon’s castle, his mother takes Ducky in her duckling form. Kobreon is attached to this duckling for some reason, but is tasked as time is running out to find a cure for King Hammerhead’s daughter. Will Lord Kobreon be able to save the day and find a peaceful treaty between him and King Hammerhead? When Ducky has her true calling will she get the respect she deserves and also to Lord Kobreon’s heart?
This is a fun paranormal read not to be missed! Already looking forward to book 2.
Marshmallow Rabbit is a cute children’s book that children ages 4-8 can enjoy. My six year old son loved this book so much we’ve read it several times already. The colorful illustrations help bring the story to life. Annabelle is a young girl who loves candy. She loves it so much she takes some every time Mr.Bonbon has a tour. Well he comes up with the perfect plan to stop her from taking his candy. A big Marshmallow Rabbit. She tried to take it but literally the Rabbit stuck to her. Annabelle is a sneaky clever little girl. Did she out smart Mr. Bonbon? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. My son and I love this author and look forward to reading more from her soon.

War in Sorcery’s Shadow (Ruarnon Trilogy Book 3) by Elise Carlson. This is the 3rd and final story in this young adult,fantasy series. It picks right back up where the second book left off and I highly recommend reading them in order to better understand the characters and story. Everything is coming to a head as the final war is coming Ruarnon and their friends race against time to warn everyone about the lies they have been fed. Fighting against the people trying to annihilate them will they be able to survive and reach their friends before the enemy does? Nartzeer thought they had done away with all the magic wielders but they lived in hiding. Will Nartzeer be able to win or will Ruarnon and their friends be able to overcome. Magic, sorcery, murder and chaos ensues. Such a good young adult, non binary, fantasy story.

This is my first audio by this author which I enjoyed listening to. This is a mystery story about Tina and her determination to figure out if stories from the past are true. Plus Tina’s mother reenters Tina’s life and has her own secrets to tell. I enjoyed this story and how the narrator brought the story to life with different tones of voices. This is an easy book to listen to and had me wanting to know more. An engaging audio with characters that are connectable and make the story for me. I look forward to listening to another audiobook by this author in the future. I highly recommend this book.

This book is by an author that I never hesitate to pick up. Her stories are engaging and hard to put down. I enjoy her writing skills and her ability to bring the story to life. This is a shorter book but it sure does pack a punch in the supernatural department. This is a well written story where the border between supernatural and human is at risk for war. It all depends on a princess waking up. Meanwhile Lord Kobreon has a line of females wanting to be by his side. What happens with these two you don’t want to miss. There is great growth throughout the characters and the plot which made the story easy to read. This is an entertaining story that is a must read. One you don’t want to miss for sure. I enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend it.
The honeymoon for Erica Parker is over after 9 months. At that time her life changes and someone is out to kill her. She can’t stay as her husband’s gambling debts need to be paid and her husband has disappeared on a mystery trip. She can’t go home to the little town she is from because someone there does not want her to get her inheritance. This has to be one of the most intense mysteries I have read in a long time. So much going on and so little time to read. The author has written this story to keep her readers engaged. Some of this story could be so true. It makes you keep reading. Fast paced, great characters and a romance to remember. A must have for all readers.

Come Home to Death by Marilyn Levinson is a romantic suspense book. When Erica Parker is found and questioned by two terrifying men about her husband Terry, she is terrified and confused. She has only been married for 9 months and knows little about her husband’s work. Erica soon finds herself in a nightmare turned reality as she finds herself in a very tangled web and does not know who she can trust. This story had a good premise. There are plenty of twists and turns. Watching Erica try to figure out who was targeting her was interesting. I liked her aunts and felt they meant well. There was a very good use of vocabulary, which also helped keep the writing interesting. Lovers of suspense should give this book a read.

Breaking Apart is the second book in the Finnerty and Liccione Mystery Series . This is a Medical Mystery/ Crime that is hard to put down once you get into it. I’m going to be honest I had a hard time getting into it at first there is a whole lot going on. But once I did I had a hard time putting it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. This is packed with action , drama , mystery, suspense and so much more. It also touches on serious topics of PTSD and addiction. This story took me on quite the emotional rollercoaster ride but man it was worth it in the end. I don’t want to give anything away.i highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens. I’m looking forward to reading more from this Author.

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.
Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.
To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn’t open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn’t need to be a reason or trigger.
People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.
I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don’t ever let anyone tell you differently.

I can’t believe we are almost at the end of this series! It has been such a good series and I have enjoyed each book for different reasons. The vampires are still on the hunt for the rogues and they keep coming ever closer. Like the masters before, Oradea meets his fated mate when she puts herself in danger. She has powers of her own, some of which she didn’t even know about. Unfortunately when she uses her powers she puts them all in danger. This has all of the elements and steam we have come to expect if you have read all the books in the series. Master Oradea is just as enjoyable as all the others and just as fast paced. Just make sure you don’t have anything important planned because you won’t want to stop reading until the book is finished.

Will they be able to help her get the closer she so desperatley needs or will the bad guys stop them from finding the truth? Peppered throughout the story are things that are happening to our vets in the real world such as PTSD and addiction. Writing about things that are happening outside of this fictional world makes the book so much more relatable. It helps us to better understand what these men and women deal with daily. Annabelle has a major sweet tooth and loves to visit Mr. Bonbon’s candy factory. Mr. Bonbon learns that Annabelle is pilfering his candy and this makes him very upset. He sets up a trap to catch Annabelle in the act during one of his tours.
This is a cute book but not one among my absolute favorites from this author. It has a Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory air to it. The illustrations are very well done. My favorite page is the one showing Mr. Bonbon laying in his “too small” bed.

A Song of Salt and Secrets is the second book in the Mythic Academy Collection by Amanda Marin. It is a YA teen fantasy with sirens, an ancient Goddess, a curse, magic, romance as well as friendships. It has a little mermaid vibe just revamped. We follow Corisande, who is a siren, attending the Magwitch Academy. She is desperately trying to keep her cursed singing voice under control, but despite warnings, she lures in Noah, who is a student at a nearby Prep school, and almost kills him when he crashes his boat. Cue in angry Goddess Aphrodite. Corisande is rapidly starting to feel a pull towards Noah. Fate must have a plan, even if it doesn’t seem that way at the moment.
Will Corisande ever be able to control her curse? Will Aphrodite cause problems than cannot be averted? How could Noah ever love a monster like Corisande?
While this is the second book in the collection, it is and can be read as a stand-alone. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
**Noah’s mom is probably the only aspect of the book I did not like. While I understand she was wanting to keep her son safe, it came off really odd. But it did not make that big of an impact of how much I loved the book.

This was a phenomenal book! I loved it from the very first few pages. From the hard times Barbara faced to set the stage for the story, to the heavy layers of injustice at the workplace, and then add in the romance…just wow! The roles that Barbara and Sebastian played in the book and how they each faced various struggles, sometimes having those struggles overlap was fantastic. I just couldn’t put this book down. I really enjoyed it. So many components came together to really make this a wonderful reading experience for me. Well done Paulette Stout!
Kaitlyn is one of the best hockey agents in the business. She ran into Banks 10 years ago at the airport for her first trip to Florida to meet her clients. Sure As Hell (Life Is Hell Book 4) by Naomi Valkyrie. I love this series and I think each book gets better. I would recommend reading these in order so you get all the great details. Its the story of Juniper Lake a not so normal destination, it just happens to be a hot spot for demons. We meet Jaru who is an imp and a former contact companion who feels like he not doing his job up to par. Jaru decides to open a new business, much to his best friend Lark’s dismay. Lark is actually jealous of all the time Jaru spends on this new business since they are a new couple. Lark decides to mess up the business on purpose so that he can have all of Jaru’s attention. Will Jaru’s business make it and will Lark get all of Jaru’s attention or will Lark’s interference cause them to split permanently. Read Sure as Hell to find out all this and more!

This was another new-to-me author, and she told a good story. There were some twists I didn’t expect, which I love! There were a few sketchy characters in which the author leads the reader to believe one truth about them, but will have you second-guessing yourself as you read.
Being newly married, Erica Parker comes home to find thugs looking for her groom (Terry) to claim a debt he owes. On the lookout for safety, Erica returns to her hometown; a place she swore she would never revisit. While there, family members and close family friends begin to show their true colors when word gets out that Erica is about to come into a large sum of money. In a few short days, she will turn 25 and become an overnight millionaire. Now, she has a target on her back. What are those around her willing to do to get a piece of her money pie?
The author uses extensive vocabulary. 1/3 of the way through, I enjoyed learning new words. However, 39% through the book, it started getting on my nerves. It was almost like she knew what word to use, researched synonyms, and picked the longest word possible to replace it. In addition to that, the chapters were incredibly long, and I’m not a fan of lengthy chapters. They were roughly 22-35 minutes per chapter.
Overall, it was a good read, and I would check out another book by her.

Under the Bandage is a fun, engaging and imaginative story. With some of the pages have very interesting facts to learn….the story is told in a rhyme….what can happen after you skin your knee!! We learn as we follow each page to clean and cover the hurt so it feels better…..but how our body helps the healing.
This was a fun story. The illustrations were very colorful and really brought the story to life. While this book is more for ages 5- 8 years of age even the young at heart while you read to the littles can learn some new things as well and I loved that about this story.

This was a really enjoyable YA paranormal romance. It is a story full of magic, myths, danger, romance, ancient goddesses and secrets all set in the boundaries of an academy. I loved Corisande, she is a character who I really felt for because she sees herself as a monster and finds it hard to believe that anyone can see her as anything more than that. Corisande is a Siren. She has been cursed with this which means she always has to fight the urge to sing because her song can lure men to their death. And that’s what happened. One fateful day she thought it was safe to sing her song but it wasn’t safe and all and it brought Noah almost to his death. After Corisande saves Noah she can’t help but feel drawn to him but she doesn’t understand the reason why. As she gets to know him questions arise that needs to be answered such as should she tell him the truth about what she is? Could there be a connection between his uncle who survived a shipwreck and a past student who saved a human then ended up losing their life? What happens when a life that is supposed to be sacrificed survives? Does there need to be another person taken in their place?
This story is fast paced and very unique. It is part of a series but you can read this story as a standalone. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to read more.
