Terrifying Love is one the most action-packed anthologies I have read in a while. You have stories from a variety of authors such as Isobella Dunn, Everly True to Melody Calder and Helle Gadde. I went from kidnapping to a paranormal revenge story with a twist on Bloody Mary (the best if you love creepy) to paranormal fantasy witch on vampire lesbian tales. There is something for everyone. That is truly what makes this a great anthology: something for everyone. I couldn’t put this down. Once you started a story, you had to go right on to the next to see if it got even better. A definite 5 out of 5 stars.

Terrifying Love: A Halloween Anthology is 7 love stories with a twist. I enjoyed all of the stories, especially the one set in a haunted house and the final story. However, I am not quite sure why it is referenced as a Halloween Anthology as there are not many references to that date. The stories are creepy, some scary, and all are sexy. They are all good in their own way, and were great reads. I will be looking for more from each of the authors!!

Terrifying Love: A Halloween Anthology – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Terrifying Love: A Halloween AnthologyTerrifying Love: A Halloween Anthology by Serena Nova
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This anthology is a collection of romances with dark elements throughout, there are seven short stories and a poem at the beginning of each, it is a collection which ranges from love which has been twisted by the eye of the beholder to a tale of true love and a curse.

The first story is about a girl who escapes who escapes from her kidnappers and runs into Willow and Evan who come to her rescue and agree to take her home, but what information they manage to get from her shows them that they may be in over their heads, especially when it looks like the kidnappers are possibly following them. Are the three in over their heads, or will they figure out the who and why before they get to the where and when?

The second story is one in which a dancer, Binx has an audition for a top dance company at the local theatre, but when she goes to get her normal order for breakfast she runs into a man, she thinks nothing of it until she sees him again as she leaves, she gets a bit of a creepy vibe. The next day as she heads to work, she finds out that someone she knows has been killed just outside, as she waits to hear about her audition, more unusual things start to happen, but are they going to lead to something good or bad?

In story number three a Queen is left by her King as he wages war on those around their homeland so he can expand their borders, however, she feels saddened and abandoned every time he leaves, when she asks advice from her maid, she is shocked, but considers it, but will she risk everything her mother worked to achieve, just to find love outside a loveless marriage, or will the consequences of such a decision be worse than she could ever imagine?

In story number four, a popular urban legend is explored in a new way as a woman is taken from the life she knows and detests into one where she finds the place she belongs, however, when that peace is destroyed she enacts a vengeful curse on those who have taken her loves, her life and her child’s life away, but how far will this curse reach and is there any way to break it?

In the fifth story Kayla is a Huntress and one who is feared by all other supernatural creatures or Myres all because of one fateful Halloween night when she was turned into a Vampire and now she is hunting someone in particular on this Halloween night, she is looking for a Witch, anyone will do but time is running out and she has to make promises she wouldn’t normally keep in order to get the information she needs to find one. Will she find her Witch and be able to fulfill her mission in time, or will fate intervene again on Halloween and ruin all her best laid plans?

The sixth story is set in a bank where Anna works and works hard, however, just as things are starting to look up in her life, it all comes crashing down around her when a colleague passed away unexpectedly, the only thing keeping her going is the cute female security guard she has a crush on and who is the only thing now keeping her there, but will she be able to change anything around her and give in to this possibility of romance, or will she end up crashing and burning?

In the final story, Rebecca is being interviewed about a shocking experience she just had involving a spade and a patio, she is shaken to the core and nervous to speak about how she saw the light and tried to escape the darkness around her, but what happened to make her into the scared woman she is during the interview and was it orchestrated by the light or the dark?

This collection keeps you on your toes while you explore the light and dark sides of love.

This is an amazing collection of stories by authors I have never read before but I really enjoyed each and everyone. As the title suggests there is a romance element but they aren’t sweet boy meets girl romances which makes them unique.

Each story is very different and unique. They cover things such as kidnap, a stalker, ghostly revenge, frued and murder also a romance. The characters are really well written and each story feels complete. I fully lost myself in each story and was left wanting more.

It is a great introduction to the authors and for people who prefer something a bit more than a sweet romance this is ideal for them.

Terrifying Love: A Halloween AnthologyTerrifying Love: A Halloween Anthology by Serena Nova
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Terrifying Love is a Halloween anthology of seven short stories and poems. Before each story is a poem by Helle Gade. The First Story is written by Serna Nova and is about Willow and her effort to save a young girl that has been abducted. The title is called Bringing Home and fits well with the plot. Story two is called HIs Dancer and is written by Isobella Dunn. This was my favorite story about a stalker and his obsession to get to BInx. The story alternates between Binx and the stalker’s point of view and is considered to be a prequel to another of Dunn’s books. Story Three is called La Siguanaba by Everly Taylor and is about a woman that wishes to have love instead of royal treatment. Her affair angers the gods and she is punished in a very unusual manner. Reflections Of The Past by Melody Calder is another story I was fond of. A mirror holds a type of portal to an evil ghost bent on exacting her revenge on the families that had killed her and her lovers. The twist at the end was a shocker for sure. Runes and Fangs by Victoria Larque is a story of a vampire and her run in with a witch. This particular vampire is actually a huntress trying to kill off other supernatural beings like witches and other vampires. She finds she needs the witch to assist her in her ultimate goal of killing the vampire that had turned her. Bloody Money by Annalie Jansssen features Anna losing out on a promotion and having to take care of a set of files that she finds are extremely odd. Rumor in the office was that the set of files previous handlers had all died. Anna reports the issues to her boss but he does nothing to rectify the situation. She then reports to the top manager what she was finding. Suddenly, she finds she is receiving death threats and even was attacked. The Final story is called The Spade and the Patio by Ada Rossi. This interesting story was perfect for the end of the book as it is regarding a woman speaking to an interviewer that will decide her fate. The woman tells the interviewer how she was unhappy in her marriage and over the years began to resent her husband. As the woman tells her story, she comes to the realization that her fate was completely in her own hands. She attempts to kill her husband with a spade but her failed attempt causes her to end up in the office with the Interviewer.

This is one of the best short story collections that I have ever read. Each story had a beginning and definite ending with well developed characters and story lines. While this is considered a Halloween Anthology, not all of the stories involve blood and gore. I am rating this collection a full 5 stars because I honestly cannot think of anything I disliked. The pace of the stories was even and every page kept my interest to the end of the book. I recommend this for adults that like reading short stories, I would caution readers as there is explicit content involved in some of the novellas which would make this inappropriate for young readers.

This book definitely kept my attention. It was hard to put down! The authors all did an amazing job capturing fear, heartbreak, fear, and excitement in a small amount of time.
There are 7 short stories as well as a poem for each short story that work together beautifully. The poems would draw me in, and then the author would captivate me with unique stories that I probably would have never read on my own had they been separate books. I’m glad I gave this book a shot because I was introduced to several different authors- some of which have been added to my must read list!
I highly recommend giving this book a chance, and then going to read the authors’ other works. I know I am!

As a new author to me I never know what to expect going in or if it will take a bit to get into their writing style. Well I was captivated from the first page and i was immersed into this story the more I read.
Katie, well she seemed from the outside to be superficial and a daddy’s girl, but we learn the truth pretty quickly through the eyes of Ramone and also getting her points of view throughout as well.
This book had me holding on for all the ups and downs and the gut punches it held.
I still have many questions left at the end of this one so I cannot wait to dive in to book 2 as I really need to know what happens .

Terrifying Love: A Halloween Anthology is a collection of 7 stories and additional poems by 8 talented authors. With plenty to choose from- there’s romance, suspense, the supernatural, paranormal, fantasy, Halloween themes, some horror, emotion, and lots more.
If you love stories that keep you on the edge of your seat, with enough thrills and chills to keep you hooked, then this is an anthology you will want to add to your reading list.
I read quite a lot of anthologies as I love the diversity that can be found within these collections. And this certainly fits the bill, as it has a great mix of storylines, all with their own originality, and assortment of interesting characters.
I thought I would just read one story a night, before bed, until I had finished the book- but I got so caught up with it that I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting #sleepisoverrated.

The collection contains:
-Bring Him Home By: Serena Nova
-His Dancer By: Isobella Dunn
-La Siguanaba By: Everly Taylor
-Reflections of the Past By: Melody Calder
-Runes and Fangs By: Victoria Larque
-Bloody Money By: Annelie Janssen
-The Patio and the Spade By: Ada Rossi
-Poems by Helle Gade

The book contains the work of some authors who I am familiar with, but most stories are from writers who are new to me, so this has been a fantastic introduction to these new (to me) authors- as well as allowing me to catch up with the work from authors that I know and love.

Thank you to all the contributing authors!

Sexy Drug (Losing My Heart Book 1) by Melody Calder – Review by Alexandria Richard

Sexy Drug (Losing My Heart #1)Sexy Drug by Melody Calder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I do love me a forbidden romance set in the world of the mafia/cartel.
This novel starts off with a bang (literally) and doesn’t stop! So many twists and turns. Katie is supposedly a spoiled brat, daughter of Cartel leader Carl. Once people know Katie though they realize she’s really a selfless woman who is trying to live under her father’s tyrannical hand. After an attempt on Katie’s life Ramone is ordered to protect her life with his, and to make sure no one touches her, as an arranged marriage is being worked out. Of course, when you’re ordered not to touch what happens but you begin to want that person.
I enjoyed seeing the true personalities of Katie and Ramone emerge throughout the story. No on is who or what they seem at first. Plus the lust, and later love, that develops between the two is palpable. I did appreciate the slow build up of desire for one another. First the reluctant sexual thought here or there, then the blatant attraction.
While overall I thoroughly enjoyed the story, there were times I was lost as to who the internal monologue belonged. Sometimes it seemed that there was a third person narrator giving us more information, or foreshadowing things, and then it would switch to either Ramone or Katie’s thoughts, but in third person format. I think in the beginning I would have been able to follow better, and been more emotionally attached, if the narrator switched between Katie and Ramone in first person.
I was excited to read the chapters here and there where we got insight into the mind of the hired assassin. It was interesting to see his perspective of the job and him seeking out his target, compared to us seeing what’s happening to Katie and Ramone. I also enjoyed the mini mysteries that popped up along the way: what happened to Katie’s mother; and who exactly is Ramone?
Warning, there are some gruesome and gory bits as this is set in the world of the cartel. (Note, I shall never look at a soccer ball the same way.) Also trigger warning for human trafficking of women.
Takeaway: if you like dark romance, you’ll enjoy this one.

Sexy Drug (Losing My Heart Book 1) by Melody Calder

This is the first book I’ve read by Calder. I will definitely be coming back for more. Sexy Drug is the first book in the Losing My Heart Series.

Katie is the only daughter of a known drug dealer. She is shot and watches her best friend die in front of her eyes. Then she finds herself attracted to her new body guard. Although she knows she shouldn’t, she ends up falling for him. The quote I chose for Katie is: “I know there’s a back way. I just don’t want the staff to see this either. They talk and I can’t handle any more rumors. Not with being stuck here until I’m sold to the highest bidder.”

Ramone is on a job and doesn’t want to put up with what he calls a selfish brat. Once he gets to know Katie and understands why she acts the way she does he starts falling. He shouldn’t feel this way since she is the boss’s daughter and off limits to him. The quote I chose for Ramone is: “As you know, your father wants us to join him for breakfast. You have fifteen minutes before we have to leave, if we are to make it on time. If there’s nothing else you need, I’ll be in my chair.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

Terrifying Love: A Halloween Anthology

4 out of 5 stars

The new stories of the frightening ways love can manifest are interspersed with haunting love poems. Each tale takes you to the edge of your seat. Will strangers risk everything for each other? Does true love last through the centuries? Can beings see past their differences or long-held beliefs to find true love?

One of the stories that had me gripping my pillow was Reflections of the Past by Melody Calder. Mary’s story started with feeling out of place where she should have felt at home. The chances Mary took to find belonging led her to real love. When everything in Mary’s world is destroyed, she finds a way to get her revenge. Sins of the past haunt Lia in ways she doesn’t even know yet as Mary’s vengeance collides with Lia’s heart. With Lia’s understanding, Mary is finally able to find peace.

The other story that caused my pillow distress was Runes and Fangs by Victoria Larque. Kayla has every reason to hate after what she has gone through. Minette should feel the same way but doesn’t let her light fade because of the actions of others. When Kayla first meets Minette, Minette should cower but doesn’t. Minette finds it within herself to be strong. Kayla should despise Minette but can’t seem to feel anything other than protective. Together, they seem to be able to accomplish the impossible while finding love.

Which story will be your favorite?

Ramone finds himself bodyguard to spoiled socialite Katie after she is shot. Katie is not truly spoiled. She really is a selfless person that helps those in need but with a criminal drug lord for a father most people assume the worse. As the two get to know each other, they find things changing not for the better. Katie’s being forced to marry a criminal because her dad “owns” her. Can Ramone help her? Will Katie be able to break free? Oh my goodness, this book left me holding my breath in anticipation of what came next. From the beginning scene of the shooting to Katie being sent to meet her groom, the action never stopped. Ramone seemed like an undercover agent? That was a question that I’m looking forward to seeing answered. Katie came into her strength as the book came along. I don’t know if I could have stood up to my crime lord dad. I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

Sexy Drug, (Losing my Heart book 1) is the first book I have read by Melody Calder and I am so happy it is part of a series because it will not be my last! I loved that the storyline was fast paced from the first to last page and it had everything I look for in a romantic read- suspense, excitement and an element of danger. I had really hoped to connect with Katie as the story progressed but I much preferred Ramone. Admittedly, I don’t like many main female characters in the “romance” genre BUT there is something lovable about a tough guy with a soft spot. Overall, I think the best part of Sexy Drug was Melody Cader’s attention to detail, from the very first page I was impressed with the way she could describe something like pavement with such detail without making the storyline feel heavy or bogged down. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

He has worked hard and proven himself to be a huge asset to the drug king. He knows he is on his way up but he has been put to the task of watching out for Katie. He knows she’s a spoiled loud mouth brat and he’s not about to let her screw up his career. What he doesn’t factor into the situation is catching feelings for the brat. He also doesn’t factor in that her dad will save himself and his business no matter the cost including his daughters life. Will Ramone be able to keep her safe??? Read Sexy Drug to find out.

Sexy Drug is a quickly paced, slow burn romance novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat from page 1 until the very last. I enjoyed getting to learn about 2 of the main characters backgrounds and how they got to where they are in life. It wasn’t just insta-love. Katie has been kept away from the ruthlessness, and sadistic tendencies of all the men around her including her father who treats her like she is just another piece of property. Her father has arranged for her to marry someone so much worse than even himself. Ramone has been through so much himself but there is still so much more to be seen about him. They portrayed cool indifference to cover what was growing between them but they were so different behind closed doors even while Katie’s life is in danger. I honestly cannot wait to read more in this series.

Sexy Drug is book 1 in the Losing My Heart Trilogy by Melody Calder. It is a powerful blend of love, deceit, crime, lust, and betrayal all beautifully woven together in a story that will keep you riveted. Callous, cold hearted bodyguard Ramone is ordered to be personal bodyguard for his boss’ spoiled, obnoxious daughter Katie. A girl that he has always despised and wanted nothing to do with. All that changes when he is assigned to be her personal bodyguard after she survives an attempt on her life by a sniper. As much as each tries to deny it, they forge a bond and find a growing attraction between them. Each must deny their attraction for the other or risk being killed by her overbearing, controlling father who is a powerful drug lord.

Sexy Drug was beautifully written and had a nice flow from chapter to chapter. It starts off strong and keeps you hooked from the first few pages and compels you to keep reading. Full of descriptive writing Melody Calder draws the reader into each scene making you feel as though you are there in that place and in that moment. The tension between characters intrigued me and compelled me to keep reading to see what would happen next. I found the book hard to put down as I was drawn into the world of Ramone and Katie. This is a book that I know I will want to read more than once, from cover to cover, with no interruptions. I highly recommend this book!

Sexy drug was a great 5 star read. Once I started I couldn’t put it down.

Will Ramone be able to keep Katie safe?

Overall I really enjoyed this read.
Ramone, ah Ramone where to start with this man. I really liked him and enjoyed the build up between him and Katie. Katie, my heart went out to her because of the father she had. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. We get drama, danger, suspense and so much more. If you like dark reads this is one for you. Sexy Drug (Losing My Heart #1) by Melody Calder follows the storylines for Ramone and Katie. Katie, the daughter of a ruthless criminal, is in danger and she gets a bodyguard courtesy of her father, Ramone.

The tension in the book is so thick you could cut it with a knife. The characters interactions with each other seems like something you could find in a tv show or movie. I kept getting that sensation while reading it that it could be a tv show. The portrayal of evil was believable and sometimes uncomfortable. It was a great read that I binged in a day.

I will definitely finish this series!

Sexy Drug is the first book in the Losing My Heart series by Melody Calder. This is a fantastic romantic suspense, with a enemies to lovers/mafia element, some drama, danger, tension, and more. I was pulled into the story quite quickly and was avidly reading to discover how it all played out in the end.
Katie is the daughter of a powerful and dangerous drug lord. She has the reputation of being a spoiled princess. Ramone is one of her fathers trusted men. They have a mutual dislike of one another- so things get heated when Katie’s safety is on the line and Ramone is tasked with keeping her safe. Thrust together, the sparks soon fly. Lots of intrigue and excitement in this one! Katie Rosewood is the daughter of crime lord kingpin Carl Rosewood, who will stop at nothing to keep his daughter safe. After an attempt on her life, he assigns one of his top bodyguards, Ramone Sanchez, to guard her 24/7. Initially, Ramone sees her as a spoiled rich girl, but after spending time with her and seeing her at her most vulnerable, he begins to care for her. Unfortunately, while Carl vehemently protects his daughter, he is a thorough narcissist who sees her only as a valuable possession whom he can control at his whim. When he decides to expand his business, Katie may end up being a pawn whom he can trade to satisfy his desires.

The character of Carl is drawn well and is truly frightening. I really liked Ramone, and we got to hear a lot from his point of view. The plot takes many twists and turns, which kept me engaged in the story. All in all, this is a good romance with many elements of danger and corruption that will satisfy readers of crime and suspense as well.

Sexy Drug is the first book in the Losing My Heart series by Melody Calder. It’s the first time I’ve read any work by this author but if this book is anything to go by then it won’t be the last. I want to know what happens next in this story for a start.
Katie is the daughter of a very powerful crime lord and when someone tries to kill her, her father puts Ramone in charge of her safety with the added ‘request’ of do not touch her. That’s not an issue to begin with as both seem to seriously dislike one another until they get to know one another better. Needless to say Katie and Ramone become sexually attracted to one another but it’s more than his life is worth for him to even put a finger on Katie. Or is it?
I loved reading Katie and Ramone’s story. It’s dark and raw in moments and not for the faint stomach in places. Let’s just say that I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of Katie’s father. He’s a very cruel and ruthless man and Katie is just a commodity to him.
I was sucked into the story from the very start and devoured this in the space of a few hours. I just didn’t want to put it down.
Definitely recommend.

Sexy Drug (Losing My Heart #1)Sexy Drug by Melody Calder
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sexy Drug is book one in the Losing My Heart series by Melody Calder. Dramatic from the very beginning, the pace stayed quick throughout the entire story. The story had many enjoyable and heart stopping moments. The storyline was edgy and gripping, keeping a reader on high alert awaiting the next event. With breathtaking danger at every turn, Katie and Ramone were on a treacherous road, but that did not diminish the intensity and passion that reigns between them. Their chemistry was electric and their journey went through many highs and many more lows. The author had a crafty way with words and played with a readers imagination and provided a titillating and unforgettable book. 5 stars.

Sexy Drug (Losing My Heart Book 1) by Melody Calder – Review by Rachel Moss

Sexy Drug (Losing My Heart #1)Sexy Drug by Melody Calder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sexy Drug (Losing My Heart Book 1) by Melody Calder was a great read! This book had some action, was full of crime, drama, and some romanticism. This book does end on a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! There are several strings left to unravel this story. My only complaint is the point of views. They switch back and forth between Katie and Ramone, at first it’s hard to tell which perspective you’re reading it from. I wish that was done a little differently, but after several chapters I got the hang of it and could hardly tell. Other than that this was a great read and I can’t wait for the next installment!
