Another story engaging Maia & Fig. This time we also meet friend Tezzie who sees ice in their drinks at their picnic and thinks its shiny, sparkly and wants a necklace! so the trio set off to make a necklace out of ice cubes. This author engages kids into a fantasy story full of color and fun while also teaching them science. Very well done!

5 Stars The Mermaid and the Ice Cube Necklace (Mermaid Science) by Lois Wickstrom
The Mermaid and the Ice Cube Necklace is part of the Mermaid Science series. What a cute and educational children’s book. My four year old son loved it . He loved it so much we read it several times in a row. I’d say its for the younger group like 3 and up but honestly believe any age would get enjoyment from reading. This is a short story about Maia and Fig who are enjoying a picnic when Trezzie the Mermaid arrives, the beauty of this is only one of them can see her, while the other isn’t quite sure. So they make a Necklace out of ice cubes. This is a cute story that I enjoyed reading and there’s a little science lesson at the end. I highly recommend reading this children’s book. I forsee it being read many more times in the future. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

This is a cute and educational story about a couple friends having a picnic next to a river and along comes a mermaid. This story will teach kids about ice and how it stays ice. Kids will really enjoy the illustrations and the colors used. The story is short and to the point and will probably draw them in .
The Mermaid and the Ice Cube Necklace (Mermaid Science) by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Janel Bernotas
Such a cute little childrens story! Imagination, curiosity, and a little science lesson on the properties of water thrown in too. Kids will learn without realizing that they’re learning. Great illustrations…very vivid and appropriate to the story’s dialogue. Would definitely recommend this book to parents and children alike. Also would be great for a science teacher to have in the classroom!
This was a great little story about Maia and Fig who are having a picnic by the lake. As they are enjoying their lunch, a mermaid friend named Trezzie pops up and is entranced by all the ice in their lemonade and thinks they are so sparkly. Trezzie asks if they could make her a necklace out of the ice. Maia starts to make her necklace by blowing into a straw at the center of the ice (Fig is not able to see Trezzie). Once the necklace is made Fig sees the necklace just floating there and jumps in to chase it. Fig starts to drown and Trezzie and her necklace save her. Fig didn’t believe Trezzie was real but may be changing her mind!! This book was a really cute book that blended science and imagination together. One of the best ways to get kids learning is through fun innovation and this book was able to do that.

I do not have small children any longer, however I have found this series to be amazing in several ways. My first love is the way this author tells such a cute fantasy story and yet finds a way to fit science facts into the narrative. Not only are the characters inclusive, interesting and critical thinkers but they are also fun, engaging and charming. Your kids will get a kick out of the whole gang and as a parent you will get a kick out of the fun science facts they learn that make them want to blow holes in ice cubes to make an ice cube necklace. These books really are a great way to start teaching your kids science and for them to beg you to learn more with the next mermaid story.

I LOVE a book that children can learn from. This Science adventure does just that. The story line, as well as the activities set the stage for good wet fun. Maia is picnicking with Fig, down by the lake. When along swims Trezzie the mermaid. Trezzie loves the sparkle of the ice cubes. So Maia and Fig put a hole in the cube and string it into a necklace, for Trezzie. Feelings are hurt and leg cramps are active, as these girls work together. This author wrote what I call an open ended book. Meaning it’s more than just a story. So get out those ice cubes and have some good wet reading fun. I recommend this story to parents, children and teachers. This was a nice summer story as well, picnic, playing at the lake, and crafting all in a day’s fun adventure.
Another cute story for a younger child that mixes both fantasy and science. My youngest son enjoys all these stories. He likes how science is made fun.

Mermaid and the Ice Cube Necklace the latest instalment in the Mermaid Science series by Lois Wickstrom. It is a bright, colourful, interesting, educational, and entertaining children’s story that takes the reader on a cute adventure, whilst also teaching and inspiring them to learn about science. We meet back up with Maia, Fig, and mermaid Trezzie as they make a necklace out of ice cubes. These cute characters bring the story to life, while also imparting lessons along the way. The use of fantasy teamed with science, engages both imagination and learning. I think the story is a clever way to teach children about science and make it fun at the same time. Happy reading!

In this book we meet Trezzie the mermaid, and her human friends Fig and Maia. Fig and Maia have brought a picnic, they learn about the science of forms of water in this story. I absolutely loved the small section with more information about the science behind forms of water. This short but sweet picture book is perfect for 6-9 year olds to teach them simple and fun tricks they can try themselves. Highly recommended.
Trezzie is a mermaid that visits her friends on land. They share a love for science and how it can seem like magic. These books are fun, colorful, and educational. Great job showcasing ice in this book. Loved it!

Maia wants to make Trezzie the mermaid a necklace. While making the necklace Maia teaches fig science regarded water in different temperatures. Fig can’t hear or see Treezie but that doesn’t stop Treezie from saving figs life. I loved this children book. I also loved the science lesson.
This author continues to create the cutest mermaid stories with life lessons built in. I read it with my 8 year old daughter and she enjoyed it as much as the last story. Similar to the last book we are back under the sea with our mermaid friends and we are exploring science, friendship, and swim safety. Vivid imagery and fun facts attached make this a must read.

Lois has given kids another Mermaid story that is more than a simple tale. It is also a teaching tale. It is showing some of the science of water and ice. It is appropriate for children between 4 – 8 years. It is also a story of friendship. The pictures and the story are colourful, entertaining and imaginative.
It is a fun read with a floating ice cube necklace but is it really floating? Could it be Maia’s “imaginary friend?”
This book is so cute. You meet Trezzie who is a mermaid, Maia, and Fig. Maia and Fig set up a picnic where they meet Trezzie. She tells them to blow holes in the ice cubes to make a necklace. It teaches them a snippet of science and different types of water and how they work. Me and my daughter really enjoyed this cute book

Oh my goodness how I wish I could let every little girl that passes my library read this book but I’m not sure my kindle will appreciate all the attention 😉
Our little friends Maia and Gig are off having a picnic when they befriend Trezzie , a mermaid 🧜♀️ now only one of our little friends can see her so the other one has her doubts but the 3 of them have fun together and create a beautiful necklace for Trezzie from ice cubes 🧊 ❤️
Not only was this a fun and cute read but there was also a bit of a science lesson to be learnt about the wonders of ice ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a very cute read for kids! This book teaches the science behind ice, and also is creates a great opportunity to teach children water safety and how to possibly prevent drowning. The pictures were very colorful and vivid, and definitely grab the attention. I feel like this is a story for older children, but definitely could be read to all ages.
Another cute story about Maia, her friend Fig and her imaginary mermaid friend Trezzie. My granddaughter loves these because of the mermaid, but I like the fact that it teaches you about science. Very cute book for young children.
This was a wonderful addition to the Mermaid Science series. Maia, Fig, and Trezzie are back with a new project- an ice cube necklace. During this adventure the kids learn about ice and water as well as how the two can different effects when the temperature changes. You even learn one way to help someone that is drowning.
This is just one of the books from this series I have read with my niece and nephew. They loved it as usual and got them asking questions, which I love. The story was well written. I do; however, feel this particular story was geared more to 1st to 3rd grade aged kids not just pre-k and kindergarten aged kids. The illustrations are excellent and make the story come to life for the kids. I would absolutely recommend this book.

A delightfully sweet children’s book! The illustrations are cute and story is creative! Children are sure to love these story about friendship and imagination.
Friends Fig and Maia enjoy a picnic and make an ice cube necklace for their mermaid friend. Though only one girl can see their mermaid friend, Trezzie, the girls enjoy the magic of the ice cube necklace and their picnic by the lake together! The diversity of the characters and friendship between them make this a winning story!

Such a good book. I found the story sweet with its own inspiration. The pictures certainly helped the story come to life. I love the visuals that were used to go along with the story. There was a good character development as well. I loved how the kids learned something not just within one another, but also from each other. I love this book series it has its interesting side as well as its educational side. This is a book and series children should read, and I think truly they will very much enjoy this wonderful book.
Maia, Fig and Trezzie are back in an all new Mermaid Science book. Fig isn’t sure if she believes that Trezzie is there because she cannot see her. She does see the ice cube necklace floating away and jumps in to get it before it disappears but nearly drowns. Trezzie saves the day by giving her the ice cube necklace to keep Her afloat. The icecubes in the lake are bigger then the ice cubes in the lemonade because warm water melts ice cubes faster then cold water.
My great nieces, great nephew and I continue to love the adventures of Maia, Fig and Trezzie. This book is about an ice cube necklace that Maia and Fig would love to make for Trezzie the Mermaid. As the story comes along not only is it about an ice cube necklace but the science you learn behind it. I even learned, as an adult reading this, something new!!
This book is totally enjoyable and the pictures are fantastic and engaging. Looking forward to more books from this author!
Another great children’s book by Lois Wickstrom! This book is adorable. Maia and Fig are two friends having a picnic. As they are eating, they encounter a mermaid who wants their ice cubes to make a necklace. This book teaches children about science and the different forms of water in a cute and fun way. The book is easy to understand and the characters are adorable. They even manage to have a bit of action. I highly recommend this book for parents to teach their young ones a bit of science.

The Mermaid and the Ice Cube Necklace (Mermaid Science) by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Amanda Haller Doris
The Mermaid and the Ice Cube Necklace is a very cute story about 2 girls Maia and Fig who go on a picnic and are visited by a mermaid Trezzie. Trezzie can only be seen and interact with Maia, which makes Fig think she might not be real. Trezzie is very interested in the ice cubes and so Maia uses a straw to blow a hole through them in order to make a necklace for her. This is a cute story with lots of pictures for children to enjoy. The author does a great job of explaining scientific ideas in a way that children can understand. I especially enjoyed at the end of the story where she goes into more details about the different forms or phases of water. She does a great job of explaining scientific ideas in an easy to understand manner that is fun for children!
This is a great children’s story that any child would enjoy. One of my favorite things about this book is how the illustrations made the story engaging. They allow you to get your child engaged in the story and talk about it. They are colorful and detailed. The characters are strong and supportive of each other. I enjoyed the theme of the story and how it will show the child that it is okay to believe. I really enjoyed this story and how fun it is. I highly recommend this book.
The science that is taught and the little snippet at the end about water is wonderful. I like that we can teach kids these things even at a younger age than they would normally learn them. The artwork is beautiful and the story of making holes in the ice cubes to make a necklace for Trezzie the mermaid is fun. I know as a child I always wished there were mermaids.
My grandchildren were so excited to hear another mermaid story. Fig, Mia and Trezzie always have fun adventures and teach about science. The lessons about water and ice cubes was fascinating. Hearing about the ice cubes and how they are larger in cold water and smaller in warm water was fascinating and an experiment that we had to try. Reading about Mia’s rescue brought questions about using ice cubes to rescue. Bright pictures and a fun, entertaining story make reading time special. There are so many ways that the story can be used. I’m a fan of the mermaid stories and this one is a winner. Highly recommended for families.
Maia and Fig are having a picnic by the lake, when Trezzie the mermaid thinks their ice cubes are pretty things. Maia makes her a necklace out of ice cubes, but Fig gets jealous. When Fig jumps in the lake to retrieve the floating ice necklace, she nearly drowns from a leg cramp. Will Fig believe in mermaids after Trezzie saves her life?
Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at the University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.
Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays for children.
She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.
Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children and four grandchildren, and a dog. She gardens, rides her bike, and tries to save the planet.

This book was adorable and educational. My nieces loved it. The characters are fun and the storyline is great at teaching a few water tricks that also helps kids learn a bit more and water and it’s abilities in a fun way. The illustrations were great and fun to look at. All in all a fun read that has some fun learning along with it. My nieces and I definitely give this book a big four stars and highly recommend it.
