I have enjoyed reading many books by this author. This book is a second chance MM romance which I don’t always read but I really enjoyed this story. Elijah and Jude meet each other when Elijah is trying to calm baby Griffin so they can get some sleep and be ready for Elijah’s first day at his new job. Jude ends up helping calm Griffin. As Elijah and Jude get to know each other, Jude notices weird things happening around Elijah. Great world building by the author with a mix of mystery, new friendships, new jobs, and even Jude finding a reason to live again.

This is an intriguing story. Elijah and Jude both have painful pasts that they are trying to deal with. The two men develop a tentative friendship and when Elijah is in need Jude is more than ready to help. As the two spend more time together emotions began to come into the picture. Jude is a good man and will do what he can to keep Elijah and his son safe. Their story moves at a good pace and has a nice mix of drama and emotions. It was nice to see the way their friendship developed and deepened into something more.

A M/M romance. Elijah is new to town and is a single dad to an infant son. A troubled past seems to have followed him and leave it to his moody neighbor Jude to find a way to protect Elijah and even Griffin. A quick almost insta-love story that has you rooting for Elijah and Jude from the first meet.

Unexpected Heroes by Naomi Valkyrie is a MM Romance that once you start reading its hard to put down until you’ve finished it. I’ve read several books by this author but this one is honestly my favorite yet. I first read this story when it was part of an Anthology so I knew I had to have it. I loved the characters, they are purely the heart and soul of this story. My emotions were all over the place with this story. Elijah and Jude both have been hurt and are trying to move on in their own ways. Elijah has Griffin his son to take care of . Things are about to change when he meets their new neighbor Jude. This is a short story but is fast paced. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I’m looking forward to reading more from this Author.

Elijah Fox, along with his son Griffin, move into town for a new job and most importantly a new start. At a particularly low point for Elijah he meets his new neighbor, the enigmatic Jude Carvossa. Jude feels an immediate connection to Elijah and his son but will his demons prevent him from pursuing Elijah? When Elijah’s past catches up with him will Jude be able to save him and his son?

This is my first time reading Naomi Valkyrie and I really enjoyed this book. It flowed well and was a quick read but it didn’t lack anything in the story or characters. I always enjoy reading dual POV. The angst was real but wasn’t overwhelming to the story. This is definitely a must read and I can’t wait to check out more from this author!

I absolutely love Valkyrie’s writing style and she doesn’t disappoint with Unexpected Heroes. This is a MM, small-town romance filled with suspense. Valkyrie packs romance, suspense, angst, and spice into Jude and Elijah’s story and does it really well. I really like how she developed these characters, individually and together, as well as the plot line. This spice level in this is just right and you will not regret picking this story up.

This is a very short read and action-packed to keep the reader engaged. The author does really well incorporating the backstory of Elijah and Jude into the present story. The story does flow well and is very easy to follow from the beginning. All of the characters, even the minor ones, are very well developed.

An enjoyable and engaging M/M Romance which introduces us to Elijah and Jude, who meet when Elijah and his baby son, Griffin move in next door to Jude. Jude helps out with the crying baby one night and a friendship develops between the men, and despite both of them having troubled pasts they can’t deny their chemistry or their instant connection. When Griffin is in danger both men are determined to save him. This fairly short story has plenty of drama and suspense which kept me hooked throughout. The chemistry sizzled off the page between the likeable Jude and Elijah and I liked how their relationship developed throughout the story.

Can we just take a minute to appreciate this beautiful cover….
Unexpected Heroes by Naomi Valkyrie is a wonderful MM romance woven around two damaged souls who are drawn together by fate. Elijah (a single dad new to town) and Jude (a security operative with a broken heart) both stole my heart, right along with baby Griffin.
This was such a sweet story but packed with emotion, danger, and intrigue. The slightly paranormal twist elevated this story to a whole other level for me, and was quite cleverly done.
Ms. Valkyrie has imbued her story with so much emotion, and though it may only be a short story, it packs the punch of a much longer novel. She made me cry, more than once- the story really touched me- I was so invested in the outcome, on the edge of my seat in parts, as I followed along to ensure everything worked out in end.
Looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us next.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Naomi Valkyrie!

I really enjoy reading Naomi’s work and was delighted to see this story. She has a unique way of telling a tale. This is a MM second chance small town romance. Where love is found in the most unlikely of places. When one man’s past rears its ugly head, love will have to take a backseat for the safety of him and his son.
Starting over is the right thing but why does it feel so lonely. Once broken by lost love now a sexy new single dad mends his heart, and he will do everything he can to save the man he now loves and his son.
This suspense story is a definite page turner.

I first read this book as part of an anthology so when I saw it as a standalone I knew I had to get it and read it again. I forgot just how much I connected with these characters. I loved the fact that they were both so broken and flawed, trying to find their way back to some semblance of a normal life. For me, it was this similarity that drew them together, even though it also almost forced them apart.
This story was so emotional and gripping. The author has created not only fantastic characters, but a story that really catches your attention and keeps you reading from start to finish. I loved this story so much! Elijah is such a great man and, great dad. He was dealt a crappy life thus far and everything seems to be looking up, especially meeting Jude. Watching Jude overcome his fear moving on and losing someone else he loves, and getting the courage to stop drinking was so beautiful, as well as watching him open his heart again to Elijah and Griffin. The added drama of how Jude learns of Elijah’s past and that past catching up to them made the story all that much more interesting.

I’ve lost everything–my job, my reputation, my friends, everything except what matters most, my infant son, Griffin. He’s the reason I live and breathe, but I don’t know if I can do this alone.
Then an angel appears in the form of my new neighbor, Jude. He’s handsome and good with my son, but my heart is hesitant to love again. Especially with Jude’s personal demons interfering, leading him to betray my trust.
Despite our falling out, when my past shows up, putting Griffin in danger, Jude’s the one riding to the rescue. He’s a good man, but am I ready to risk my heart to build a future with him?
JUDE
He’s gone, and he took my heart and soul with him. Life is now an endless round of working security jobs and losing myself in the bottom of a bottle… until the night I meet my new neighbor Elijah and his baby boy. Suddenly, the future I always wanted is possible again, and I cling to it with all I’ve got. But my clinging leads me to make a decision that could tank everything before it gets started.
Even though Elijah has pushed me away, when he and Griffin are in danger, I can’t stand by and do nothing. Elijah and I may not end up together, but he and his son have become my reason to live. As long as they are safe, nothing else matters. I’d rather they be alive to love from afar, than be dead and return to the darkness I was in before we met, because this time I might not make it out.

In the Midst of Omens by Nicole Bailey – Review by Kat Mellon

In the Midst of Omens (The Legacy of Gilgamesh Book 1)In the Midst of Omens by Nicole Bailey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In the Midst of Omens by Nicole Bailey loosely follows the story of Gilgamesh. As a god king, he is cocky and on a relentless pursuit to ensure his name stands the test of time. This lifelong and obsessive goal is concerning for his goddess mother and mortal wife (who is more the role of best friend/little sister figure for him). With the interest of helping Gilgamesh see the real meaning of life, his wife beseeches his mother for help; thus the creation of Enkidu.
Unsure of what his life’s purpose is and why he was created, Enkidu is drawn to Gilgamesh once they meet. Both men feel something pulling them to each other, neither fully understand why or how they can help each other. Drama, adversary, angry goddesses and horrible beasts abound in this MM/polyamory love story.
(I was not expecting the MM POV, so heads up if that is not your koolaid). The book was well written and relatively fast paced, although I did have a hard time getting into it and honestly not sure why.

Loved this! I love m/m romance and the world this book painted is so different and interesting. Patrick and Iseul are everything together. I love their love for each other, and their steamy scenes are hot! It is devastating to see how his dad treats Patrick, all because he is slightly crippled from a past fever, but his younger and one older brother treat him as equals, and that made my heart swell. I love his brothers Silas and Eion and was devastated and what befalls the whole Upshur family. My heart was torn and did not mend until Patrick and Iseul are reunited again. Lady Ambrosia is a fun addition to the story and I like her character and station in Patrick and Iseul’s lives. The ending was beautiful if not missing a few people that I was hoping would be there but I was happy with it all the same.

However, he seems to be in over his head being buried in paperwork and interviews. It has given him far less time to spend with Lark which makes them both unhappy. Now companions are starting to go missing and Jaru has been warned that his are next. Will Jaru be able to keep everyone safe? This story was fun and engaging. I will be going back to read the three books before this one to get a better understanding of the characters.

Sure As Hell (Life is Hell #4)Sure As Hell by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Such sweet moments sprinkled in. This is book four in the Life is Hell series and like the others it can technically be read as a standalone but once again it picks up after the events of the previous book. Dual perspectives of Jaru and Lark.
Jaru is determined to give contract companions a safe place to work. Following the attack in the previous book, Hell in a Handbasket, Jaru starts his own agency, Devil’s Delights. Only shortly after finally starting up warnings begin to appear, notes and phone calls. Contract companions are disappearing, and his boys are next. Lark is the last of his grove and surprised to still be alive and now finding his newfound loneliness too much as his best friend is no longer around as much. Thanks to his secret portal system he is faced with an emergency that shows Jaru and Soren one of his abilities that he has kept secret. Having experienced holding hands and finally his first kiss Lark is willing to do what is needed, even helping Soren cook dinner. Lark and Jaru learn together as Soren helps. But everything is different and the chaos never waivers. One attack was stopped thanks to Soren’s guards, but the mystery remains.
Who is attacking contract companions? How long can they keep the warnings secret from Teivel? Does Jaru finally discover what love really is? This world has such a hold on me with each book. While I loved the previous books and was glad to finally get into Teivel’s head each new pair is so unknown, their history, wants, and feelings that each one pulls you in as you watch them grow with each other as the pages fly by. So many sweet moments happened in this book that just makes you say aww, and route for Lark to learn how to be a good boy and for them all to find happiness. Now book five, A Cold Day in Hell, to finally learn what happened to Hadassah and Jezebel after the chaos in book one with Delilah and Malakhi. Can’t believe it’s the end already love Juniper Lake and seeing the gang grow together. See you there.

Sure As Hell (Life is Hell #4)Sure As Hell by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After Jaru was treated poorly in the past by previous “masters”, he decided to start his own business for companions to make sure they are kept safe. Jaru knows he has a lot to take on but with the help of Teivel and Oren, he can do anything he sets his mind to. When trouble starts appearing within the business, Jaru doesn’t want to be bailed out like always. He wants to prove to himself he can do this… alone. He hires Soren to keep an eye on the boys under his management.

Lark misses his best friend. Now that Jaru is always gone, Lark finds himself lonely and bored which is a bad combination for him. Boredom leads to mischief and mischief leads to getting in trouble with the other housemates. Lark decides to start hanging around the office with Jaru. As they get to know each other better, they start to cross over the line of staying platonic.

Jaru has very little self esteem so he is constantly questioning himself and as a result is questioning whether he is good enough for Lark. When threats towards Lark come to light, Jaru must find a way to keep Lark safe while fighting his own inner demons.

This book is book 4 of the ‘Life is Hell’ series and although it has less action than the previous books, this one was my favourite. Jaru is riddled with self doubt and anxiety making him feel unworthy which hit close to home for me. His anxiety gets so severe at times that he starts getting manic. Lark at first seems like a childish adolescent when you are introduced to him but as time goes on, he starts to mature into a caring, strong, independent and powerful being. I was happy that Jaru had a chance to find his happily ever after.

Sure As Hell is the fourth book in the Life Is Hell Series. It is a polyamorous, MM, friends to lovers, slow burn romance with drama, danger, mystery, suspense, action, magic, paranormal elements, and a touch of humor. If you have not yet read the previous books in this series, I highly recommend that you do. Not only will it give you the backstory of the characters, but the series is amazing. This story focuses on the characters of Jaru, who is an imp demon, and Larkspur, who is a pixie, that we were introduced to in previous books. Jaru is just starting to get ready to open a contract companion business. Larkspur misses his best friend and offers to help him around the office so that he can spend more time with Jaru. As the two spend more time together the attraction between them grows. Of course, they must overcome some obstacles as danger looms for the two of them. Can they overcome such seemingly insurmountable obstacles and truly be together? I absolutely adore this series and the characters I have met along the way. The storyline is interesting, unique, and original with quirky characters that I instantly adored. I highly recommend this entire series!
