Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember #2) by Ysa Arcangel – Review by Sheri Schrader

Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember #2)Moments of Pain by Ysa Arcangel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Moments of Pain by Ysa Arcangel is the second book in the Moments to Remember book series. The first book in the series, Moments of Joy, needs to be read to fully get the impact of the book. The story picks up on the story of Ivo and Brandy. Brandy’s condition is worsening quickly and Ivo is trying to help her as best as he can before he loses her to the progressing Alzheimer’s. He stands by her in her good and her bad days. Brandy decides to free Ivo from watching and witnessing the progress of her disease and decides to have a surgery that will radically change both of their lives. The surgery does not go as well as hoped and Brandy is left with years of memories missing which includes her life with Ivo. Ivo being a thoughtful person gives Brandy space to herself to heal. The danger is that she might never come back to him.
I will not go further into the plot because I do not want to spoil it for anyone. This is a well written tear-jerker of a story about the power of love. Ivo and Brandy are realistic characters each fighting a horrible battle against Alzheimer’s. People with experience on either side of the coin will be able to relate to the characters. If you have ever love or lost someone with a debilitating disease or known someone who has your heart will be touched forcefully. This was a fantastic continuation of the first book and I will be eagerly moving onto the third book in the series.

Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember #2) by Ysa Arcangel – Review by Jenni Bishop

Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember #2)Moments of Pain by Ysa Arcangel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Moments of Pain picks up right where Moments of Joy ended and is every bit as compelling and heart wrenching if not more than the first. Moments of Pain continues to share the strong love between Ivo and Brandy and the lengths that someone is prepared to go for the one they love.

Brandy’s illness is progressing at an alarming rate and Ivo, even with all his medical training, is having to sit by helplessly, and witness it all happening before his eyes whilst being powerless to stop it. But he is right there by her side. Brandy is getting less memory lucid and very frustrated and without involving and letting Ivo know she decides to try the medical experimental testing to cure try to find a cure for her Alzheimer’s. She is willing to do all she can so she can have the life, love and family with the man she loves.

When Brandy awakes everyone finds that the treatment has wiped her memory and she has no memory of the man she loves or things that have happened for a number of years. Ivo’s heart is breaking as he realises the woman he loves doesn’t even recognise him. She doesn’t know who is is or what they shared together, so he does the only thing he can do and that is give her the time and space she needs and is he has to he is prepared to let her go..

Whilst Brandy is feeling alone and terrified and struggling and my heart went out to her, I found it incredibly hard to watch/read the struggles Ivo was going through. It was incredibly sad and the emotions I felt for him were overwhelmingly strong. Ysa is such a powerful writer that she can evoke such strong emotions in someone with just one story. It is a brutally honest and raw look into how this disease can destroy lives. It is a beautiful yet heartbreaking story that is full of so much emotional pain, love and passion, fear and ups and downs. You will most certainly need a box of tissues and a stiff drink just to get through it.

Oh my goodness, this book..this series!! What an amazing story so far. I’m trying to find words to write this review to give this story the amazing justice it deserves. I’ll start with you must read the first book in this series first or you won’t completely appreciate what is happening in this story.

Brandy Curtis is being pulled down little by little by Alzheimer’s disease, slowly taking everything and everybody she knows and loves from her. In a moment of clarity she makes a decision to submit to an experiment that might just cure her. She doesn’t want to keep putting her husband Ivo through having to watch her suffer from this awful disease, she wants to be happy and build a future for them and have his children and she knows she can’t do this the way she is going. With her brother’s help she is whisked away to the UK without Ivo’s knowledge to begin the process.

Ivo Ferrero is watching his wife disappear right before his eyes, every day it’s getting a little worse, he loves her with every ounce of his being and will stand by her no matter what. When he realizes that she is missing and finds out what she has done and where she has gone and why he is devastated but finds a journal entry from her moment of clarity and realizes she is doing it all for him and their life together.

As Ivo arrives in the UK he finds the experiment has already begun and the tests are showing progress but all they can do is wait for her to wake up. As she does Ivo has realized his worst fears..she has no memory of him at all. 11 years of her memory have been erased and Brandy must now try to figure out who she is and deal with dreams of this man that she can’t remember but knows she feels safe when he is near.

This story is heart wrenching yet hopeful, I held my breath through a lot of this book. It takes the test of love to a whole new level. You almost forget while reading these books that there is another story at play here and watching that play out is messing with my head. I don’t think I have ever needed the last book of a series like I do this one. Thankfully my wait is not too long. This story will stay with me forever, this author has done an amazing job and I will be reading anything she has to offer from this point forward. Read these books, seriously you won’t be sorry.
