Moonlight Drive by A.R. Hadley – Review by Angela Shirley

Moonlight DriveMoonlight Drive by A.R. Hadley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dani’s life as a child was hard, the abuse she encounter was not for young eyes or ears but her saving grace was finding Nick. New to the neighbourhood but wanting to protect her and then becoming more than friends in the end, until one day Nick decides to move away promising he will come back for her but will he fulfil his promise and come back to rescue her.

Nick is lost in a world were his mother is the neighbourhood bike and constantly pushing him and mental abuse of constant being not worth anything. The only person who loves him and cares is Dani but he needs to prove himself and to make something of himself, so he can provide a life fitting for her but as life goes on and he gets caught up in the world of celebrity can he remember the one person who loved him for him.

This is a story of lost love and friendship, where no matter how hard you love someone it maybe just not enough sometimes. I loved the split story of being back when they were young remembering the simple love they had but then the heart-breaking story of the adult side of the relationship.

The chemistry was brilliant and the characters just pulled at my heart with the journey they both need to go through to eventually come together but it was a rocky journey to get there. The secondary characters just enhance the story with the compassion they have towards each other.

This was a beautiful story and I was crying happy tears in the end, can’t wait to read other books by this author.

Nick and Dani were sweethearts at one time. Now Nick is the bass guitarist for one of the biggest bands on the world, Moonlight Drive. Dani gets the opportunity to join them on the road and she hopes that Nick will recognize her. Imagine the disappointment when he doesn’t recognize her and that he is also a far different person than she once knew. He’s living the lifestyle of a rock star and it isn’t good. These two will have to fight to get back to where they once were. Moonlight Drive was a good book and will take you on a bit of a ride. It’s got a good storyline and well developed characters.

While this was a bit different from other books I have read by this author, it was still incredibly well written and enjoyable. I like stories that center around rockstar romances, so this one was right up my alley. Little did I know that it was also heart-wrenching and would have me in tears. It is definitely an emotional rollercoaster but one I would still go on knowing what lies ahead. Our two main characters loved each other as kids and after reconnecting finds that all isn’t as it seems. The addictions portrayed were realistic and painful, as well as the heartbreak. While I did want to shake some sense into the characters sometimes, their development was still well done. It goes to show that everyone has flaws and makes mistakes. I recommend picking this up if you enjoy books with hard truths, dramatic scenes, and life-like portrayal of complicated emotions. I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us next!

Reconnecting loves, 80s all-male rock bands, stardom, drugs and rock n’ roll are just the tip of the iceberg of attention grabbers for me to pick up this selection! There are quite a bit of flashbacks along the way between main characters of Daniela and Nick from the 70s when they first met as young teenagers and then now into the 80s in early adulthood. Nick has been part of his band, Moonlight Drive, and touring and it has consumed his lifestyle in everything he does. Daniela or Dani finds the group and appears to be a groupie but is pursuing her own passions of singing and songwriting as well as reacquainted with her lost first love. Nick’s band touring habits leaves him with past memories lost of what he once had. Very good entertaining read!

This is a contemporary romance set in the 80s/90s. It is a very moving story and has plenty of drama and angst as well as dealing with topics such as addiction. The authors character development was great and I really felt drawn into the lives of Nick and Dani.
Both of them have had a rough start in life but they found comfort and love and a sense of safety with each other at a young age.
Fast forward and Nick is now part of a band just like he dreamed off and with Dani now old enough she leaves and follows his tour disgused as a groupie.
However the Nick she knew has changed and what is in his place is a man who fully embraced the rock and roll life, including the drinking, drugs and women.
With Nick being in a constant brain fog he has no idea that the young girl he fell in love with all those years ago is right in front of him.
After Dani witnessed Nick going through several relapses she decides to follow her dream and with the aid of Nick’s band she starts to make her own way in the music world. However her heart never leaves Nick.
Can she save him the way he saved her all those years ago? How will he react when he realises just who Dani is and why she seems to familiar to him? Will the love they once shared still exist or does the Nick that Dani knew before the game, partying and drugs not exist anymore?
This is an emotional and at times heartbreaking story but will love and music bring them together while addiction is trying to tear them apart.

Moonlight Drive is by A.R. Hadley is a musical romance book that I really enjoyed. Dani and Nick were friends and now he has made it as a rock star, and Dani has the chance to join the tour as a groupie. She wants him to remember her and he does not, which upsets Dani. Through out the book we see so many different stages of Nick and Dani’s life and just how much the friendship meant to each as they grew. This read was a journey, a journey of 20 years, but In the end, does Dani and Nick find what they are looking for?
I loved this book and enjoyed the main and the supporting characters. I found the book full of emotions, grit, secrets, and addiction. I recommend this book and be prepared to smile, cry, and get frustrated! But I promise its worth it!!!

I have to be honest and admit I am conflicted in what to say about this book. This is the story of Dani and Nick and while the author takes us readers on a very emotional and complex journey full of heartbreak, jealousy, pain, addiction, the hardships involved in making it in the music industry and a lot more, I truly struggled at times to feel a true connection to the characters . This made it difficult for me to truly embrace the book and the world the author was portraying. However I must insist that just because I had a disconnect this time it does not mean you will nor does it mean I won’t read this author again because I definitely will!

Moonlight Drive by A.R. Hadley. This is second chance romance and its also about the rock star lifestyle. Its the story of Dani and her lifetime friend Nick who has made it to the big show. He’s a rock star and when Dani has a chance she goes on tour with them as a groupie. Dani and Nick were in love with each other years ago but they both had complicated lives and it didn’t work out. When she gets on this tour they are reintroduced but Nick doesn’t remember her. This book is set in the 80s rock n roll world where sex, drugs and rock and roll are rampant. That adds a whole other set of problems to their relationship. This book is full of frustration at both people in this story and them trying to work things out. Both of the characters truly need to grow up but don’t seem capable. Read this story to find out if they can actually make it work.

Moonlight Drive is a contemporary romance full of drama, angst, love, hate, secrets, rockstars, addiction, friendship, groupies, and second chance romance. The story is set in the ’80’s/90’s and centers around the characters of Dani Isabella and Nicki Quick who grew up together and were childhood sweethearts. The world now knows him as Nicki Quick, but Dani knows and remembers him as Nick Johnsen, the boy next door. Nicki swore that he would become a successful musician and would one day return to save Dani but instead he quickly got swept up in the world of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll. Dani never wanted to be saved and instead wanted to pursue her own dreams and become successful in a boy’s world. What Dani has never told anyone is that she can sing and write songs. Dani/Daniela has joined Moonlight Drive’s 1985 Loved and Wired Tour disguised as a groupie in the hopes that her childhood sweetheart, Nick, will remember her. Unfortunately, Nicki does not recognize her and instead thinks of Daniela as just another groupie. As the two spend time together Nicki soon begins to realize that Daniela is different from the rest of the groupies and that she is a talented songwriter. This was an intense rollercoaster ride of emotions as two souls destined to be together become separated by time, distance, and addiction but are brought together again by love, hope, and music.

This is a really cute spin on a theme park that allows kitties to run loose at night much like the rumors about Disney doing the same. Except in this story the cats think and act for themselves. They have different territories within the park and hierarchy in each area like the mafia.

The cats in this story try and succeed in communicating with a human (or as they call them, bipeds) to solve a murder before the theme park has to close for good. The characters are well written, and enjoyable to read about. I really like the cat detectives aspect. It would be a great starter murder mystery story for young adults.

This was a very interesting story. I enjoyed it a lot. Loving music, the storyline between Dani and Nick/Nicki was intriguing and multi-layered, but it also takes the reader on a roller coaster of emotions. I am glad there was a lot of background of Dani and Nick as kids, because that really sets the stage for the story and the flashbacks fill in the gaps. There could be some triggers related to addiction and some family relationship triggers. This was a quick and easy read and again, I really enjoyed it.

Moonlight Drive was an emotional ride. The timelines go back and forth as you get to know the main characters, Dani and Nick. There is sex, drugs, and rock & roll. There is also heartbreak and a lot of the right person and the wrong time, but it was worth it. Many parts were very reminiscent of The Dirt. Mind your trigger warnings.

This is the first book I have read from this author and now I’m a fan. I love rocker romance but this book exceeded all my expectations. You can’t help but to fall in love with these characters right from the beginning. You are going to love the banter in this book. I could not put this book down until the end. I can’t wait to see what this author will write about next.

Daniella and Nick go way back. They were very close as kids. She finds herself running away from home to see if Nick will remember her. Daniella finds herself on tour with Nick and his band but he doesn’t know who she is. He is huge in the music industry and he can have any girl he wants. She tries hard to get to know him again but the past is very hard on both of them. Will they be able to heal each other or are they better alone?

Girl and Boy growing up, knew each other and she remembers him still. Now that she is old enough she is able to follow him and try to rekindle what they had as kids. He however is in a haze of rock music, groupies and drugs. She wants to become a musician and do what the band does but she isn’t into the drugs and groupies. This story will keep you wanting more. You will keep turning pages simply because you are just waiting on him to remember and for them to find that “HEA” that you are so desperately rooting for. Hang in there. The ending may surprise you.

This book gets a solid 4/4.5 stars. I really want to give it a 5 star review but I can’t. Let’s discuss everything amazing in this story. It is a second chance love but not love story. The main characters loved each other in the past. They both have issues that they were dealing with growing up. Then the leading male character goes away to become a rockstar. After years of wondering and remember how amazing they used to be the leading female runs away to join him. This has me all drawn into the book wanting to keep the pages turning. They meet but he doesn’t remember her and there are now other issues that they didn’t have growing up. The book is really centered-around what it probably would have been like to be a groupie in the 80’s. It does give you the feel of fast times of rock and roll with everything one could imagine happening backstage. All of this is amazing and the story is really well done. The thing that lowers the stars for me is how frustrated I was getting at the characters. I at times wanted to reach into the book and smack them. The ended had some redeeming qualities for the characters but the majority of the book (after they reunited) had me frustrated. I continued to read the book because the story line was that good. I just really couldn’t support the characters at points throughout the book. That said, it is an amazing read just go in knowing you probably aren’t gonna love the characters until the very end.

Moonlight Drive is a musical romance. Dani’s childhood friend, Nick, has made it as a rock star. She takes a chance to join his tour as a groupie, hoping to reconnect and rekindle the love they have for each other. But they have both changed and it’s not the reunion Dani dreamt of.

This is an emotional book that moves between different times in Dani and Nick’s lives. We see their difficult childhoods and the lifeline their friendship provided. We see them at various stages in their adulthood as they each run towards and away from the other.

I like that Dani has her own musical skills and dreams that she pursues separately from her pursuit of Nick. Jim, the drummer in Nick’s band, is a great friend and mentor to Dani and a solid, grounding presence throughout the story.

This book gets four stars from me! I’d recommend it to anyone who has dreamt of having a relationship with a rockstar and fans of slow burn romances that are stretched out over a long time frame.

Moonlight Drive: A Novel

I wanted to love everything about this book. The characters in the timeliness while a little older than me I could relate with the time, the home issues and the amazing music we had in the 80’s and thought for sure it would make my Gen X heart happy.

While parts did do that there were other parts that would frustrate me to no end. Nick and Dani as kids are sweet and innocent to a point. Her home life isn’t great and his isn’t any better. But they find comfort and peace with one another.

Flash forward 6 years, Nick is now Nicki and in a famous band. The description of Nicki was quite easy to picture in my mind and totally got a Motley Crue/Nikki Sixx vibe which evidently what she wanted us to picture.

I did not like the 1986 forward version of Nick until the very end. There was too much push and pull for my liking but the very end of the book saved it for me.

This was a great 5 star read. My emotions were all over the place. Nick and Dani were great characters. We definitely get the sex, drugs and rock n’ roll in this book. We see a side that many rockstars have lived for sure. Dani finds herself following Nicks band and intertwining herself into their lives. These two have a history that spans back to when they were in highschool. This story pushes the emotional buttons full throttle. There are times that the author jumps to the past to give you some back story. Can Nick beat his addictions and will he remember Dani? If you are looking for a great read that doesn’t hold back this is the one for you. I look forward to reading more from this author. 1-click and get started today.

Moonlight Drive is wonderfully written story that I absolutely loved reading. From the first page I was hooked and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I will say parts of this story wrecked my emotions and boy were they all over the place. My heartstrings were pulled in every direction and I loved every minute of it. This author puts her heart and soul into every book she writes. This one is definitely my favorite yet. The characters are complex, raw yet fully developed and relatable. They made the story come to life and their growth throughout the story was epic. This is a story about finding yourself when you believe you’re lost and the struggles of making it in the music industry. I’m not going to give anything away but I do highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I’m looking forward to reading more from this Author.

The premise pulled me in…and the story kept me turning the pages!

Dani and Nick were childhood sweethearts. Nick moved away and that was the end of what they had. Now Nick is “Nicki Quick”, the bassist for Moonlight Drive. He is the epitome of an 80’s rockstar…he loves music, drugs, sex, and the groupies. So, when Dani runs away from home and decides to join Moonlight Drive on tour, Nick confuses Dani for another groupie and doesn’t recognize the girl he was in love with years ago. But, Nick isn’t the boy Dani remembers either. Over the course of the story, these two try to reconcile the person they see in front of them with the memories of the past (although it takes a while for Nick to figure it all out).

This story has it all…love, loss, drama, addiction, angst, and healing. If you ever wanted a story with a backstage pass to the world of 80’s rock bands…this is it. I enjoyed the story, even while being frustrated with the main characters. However, the author has the reader feeling like they are right beside the characters…feeling what they are feeling and dealing with what they are dealing with. I enjoyed it!

Moonlight Drive by A.R. Hadley is a raw and gritty women’s fiction story that will strum your emotions the whole way through. Set in the 80’s/90’s, the story takes a look at the seedier side of fame – and the groupies who followed along for the ride.
This is a story of two damaged souls, with secrets, raw and gritty developments, drama, tension, addiction, hope, healing, forgiveness, and more.
And while the story did tug at my heartstrings, and was a well-woven tale, the characters frustrated me to no ends – so I found it really hard to connect and invest in them and the story.
Happy Reading…

This book is not at all what I expected when I started reading it. As this author is one that I tend just one click now, I didn’t read the description or the reviews before diving in. What I expected to be a famous musician romance actually turned out to be an angsty, rollercoaster of emotions set in the 80’s rock scene.
The author has really managed to capture the hardships of the industry and that era, combining that with some flawed but intriguing characters. I wasn’t sure the entire way through how things might turn out in the end but I definitely enjoyed the journey I was taken on. This is a great book by a brilliant author.

Moonlight Drive, OMG. I feel like I have been put through an emotional wringer with this one. I was up and down and twisted around. The story is told between the present and the past and is set in the 80’s & 90’s.
Nick & Dani were once sweethearts with promises only he broke those promises. He followed his dream, and she followed his dream, but she also has her dream. But the lifestyle he leads music, sex, drugs, groupies, and rock ‘n’ roll, he is in a fantastical place, and one he doesn’t want to give up. Love was not supposed to hurt but it does. Now it was time for her to move on even though she was irreversibly broken.
It brings back memories of times with friends just starting out wanting to make it big.
It’s a raw and exposed look at the fame, the music and behind the scenes darker side of being a rock star. Whilst I enjoyed the story Nick is the one character that I could not get fully behind. Frustration overload with this man.

This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked. This is one of my favorites yet. I enjoyed how I was pulled into the story from the beginning. There is a great growth of the characters throughout which makes the story easy to read. There are some triggers but if you can get past them you will find a story that is fast paced and hard to put down. This is one you don’t want to miss. A captivating novel about the rocky beginnings of a girl on her way to music stardom and the wild 1980s all-male rock group she follows – through struggles and addiction and love. An epic tale showcasing ways in which the human spirit triumphs and how dreams never truly die!
“I hadn’t read more than a few pages and was hooked, like a junkie craving her next fix. Moonlight Drive is a heartbreaking story of first loves, making it in the music industry, the lure of addiction, betrayal, pain, jealousy, groupies, following your dreams, and so much more. Get ready, readers, for Moonlight Drive is your next addiction.” – N.N. Heaven
The magazines didn’t do him justice.
Not long after running away from home, Daniella Isabella joins Moonlight Drive’s 1985 Live and Wired tour, hoping her long-lost friend, Nick, will remember her.
He’s finally made it – just like he promised. He’s the bassist for one of the biggest rock bands in the world.
Only, he’s reinvented himself and doesn’t recognize his childhood sweetheart. Nicki Quick has been seduced by the decadent lifestyle of the music scene of the eighties, lost in a haze of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. And to Nicki, Dani is just another chick in a long line of groupies.
He soon finds she isn’t like the other girls, though. Music runs through her veins – it’s part of her soul. She’s a songwriter. A dreamer. A girl determined to make it in a boys’ world.
This is the story of two musicians. A boy and a girl. A man and a woman. Two people who learn that being lost is sometimes the same as being found.
Author Note: Moonlight Drive is a 57,000-word novel. More literary fiction, less romance. The characters and their intense and realistic actions drive the plot. Contains content that may trigger some readers.
