My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it! I love a book that has romance, mystery, and action, especially if the main catalyst isn’t sex. I thought the author did a great job of introducing us to these characters and gave us just enough to be intrigued to hope to see them in more books. I feel like we got to see just the tip of the iceberg with them as I would expect in a short read. I can tell that this author has a way with words, and can weave a story. I can’t wait to read some of her full novels to really get a sense of her writing and the characters she creates. She left me wanting more. If you like a very quick read that is romantic suspense then you will enjoy this one very much.

I can honestly say that romantic suspense is slowly becoming one of my favorite new genres. This is only the second story I have read by Amy McKinley, and each book only gets better.
It is a short read, but still a complete page turner until the end. Nadia was a predator and Cade was her prey. It was a mission that turned disasterous when her feelings could not be put aside, and her only option was walk away and fight the temptation of love. Years to come they both wonder about the other, and the cirumstances of their encounter.
When they meet again its a second chance at possible love, but only if they can overcome the untold secrets and demons of the past.

Moonlit Mirage is the first in Amy McKinley’s Moonlit Destination series, and I for one did not hesitate to dive headfirst into this series. Unlike some of her other books this one is a novella so it doesn’t go into as much depth as her others but per usual Ms. McKinley takes her readers on a wild romantic ride with this book. Much to my excitement although a shorter story Ms. McKinley still captured me from the very beginning and provided us with all of our favorite ingredients for a romance story including suspense, excitement, danger, and most of all romance. If this novella is an indicator in how the series is going to go then I for one can’t wait to see where Amy McKinley takes us next.

Amy McKinley has done it again. I really have found a new favourite author! This girl can write, and she does it really well!
In Moonlit Mirage, Cade Malone is in a car accident and an underwater angel saves him but then disappears. Years go by and he continues to think about her and what she did but still has not found her. He vows that if he ever does, he won’t let her get away.
When their paths finally cross, secrets from the past are revealed which could make or break their chance at a relationship but the truth must be revealed.
I thought this book was the perfect length! It was a quick read that caught my attention right from the beginning and held it for the entirety. I also liked that it tied into another of Amy’s series which made me want to buy and read them too!

A cute quick read

This book was one of those quick but cute books. It took me about thirty minutes to read. Nadia and Cade are cute together. They both have struggled with things that I will not mention due to spoilers and I’m not about that spoiler life. The book is fast pace. Yet it isn’t to the point that you will be scratching your head asking what happened. My main takeaway was that it was a cute story about a cute couple.

Amy McKinley proves yet again that she is a magnificent writer that deserves to be on every romance-lovers to-read list with her second book of the Moonlit Destinations series. More suspenseful than the previous and leaving the reader wondering what will happen next, it is no wonder that I finished yet another one of her books in record time. Yet again, I find myself excited to read the next book in this series, and eventually read the series it is connected to, the Gray Ghost series.

The book reels you in from the very first paragraph, with a heart-pounding scene that leaves you questioning what just happened. When the lovers reunite later on, you can’t help but hope that the novel will end with a happy ending, despite many things trying to keep them apart. Another short yet sweet novel, readers will devour this quickly.

Oh what a web we weave when we deceive! Nadia has woven quite the web when Cade runs into her again several years after she has rescued him from drowning. The spark is still there but secrets are being hidden under the surface. Can this romance hold up once the secrets are out? Is it strong enough to stand? Cade and Nadia are so well-written that you can feel every feeling they have as you read this story. The plot, twisted as it is, kept me on the edge of my seat from page 1.

This story was laid out nicely. The strong memory that Cade had of Nadia was well thought. I also liked the personal reasons that guided them together. The connection from their past encounter and their present was clever. I didn’t get a strong sense of suspense as I’ve seen in other reviews but the story was carefully thought through. I appreciated the shorter story because I feel that the length may have drawn it out and impacted the feel of the story.

Moonlight Mirage by Amy McKinley is a quick but intense read. It starts with Cade and Nadia meeting under the strangest circumstances and fate bringing them together again years later.

Both hold secrets, Nadia having to do with her job and her up upbringing, Cade with who his family is. Even though they have this unexplainable connection, can they get passed the past to make a go of it?

I was interested in this story from page one and for such a short novel, it certainly packed a punch with a major twist! What a read!

Excited to read the rest of the series and get in on the Grey Ghost Series. Moonlit Mirage: A Cook Islands Romance (Moonlit Destination Series) by Amy McKinley

I have had the pleasure of reading a few books by Ms. McKinley,  but until this book I had not had the pleasure of listening to one until this one.  I throughly enjoyed the story as well as the narrator (Regan Brown) being able to grab and keep my attention.

Cade and Nadia’s story has romance, suspense and second chances all while in paradise

I loved the connection to a previous series and gasped when I caught it.  This is a quick listen and quite enjoyable.   Looking forward to listening to more.

Moonlit Mirage (A Cook Islands Romance) Audio Book by Amy McKinley

A short, fast moving romance between Nadia and Cade full of suspense and intrigue. The two met 5 years before when Cade’s car went over a bridge into a river due to an accident. Nadia kept him safe by diving into the river and giving him much needed air. It is short but a wonderful introduction to these two characters. I hope that I find any book(s) that these two show up in. This is my first book by this author that I’m excited to check out her books in the future. Nadia has a secret she doesn’t want Cade to find out because she is worried he will not forgive her for it…
The book is narrated by Regan Brown, who did a wonderful job.

5 stars!

At first I wasn’t sure where this book was going, so I was kind of conflicted about how I would feel about it in the end. I was quickly sucked into the story and the characters lives. I was not so patiently waiting for the story to continue quickly so that I could find out what role each character was playing and what would happen. Nadia seems like such a sweetheart, I really like how she fell in love with Cade and couldn’t follow through with her mission, and still wanted to get a glimpse of him years later. The fact that Cade has a near death experience and still manages to remember the girl who saved him years prior proves in my mind, that they are meant to be. They both follow their gut when it comes to each other and knowing that they are forever. I really enjoyed the drama the unfolded when Cade’s sister notices Nadia and finding out the organization Nadia works for and why. I was sad to have this story end, I was wanting more but was satisfied with the ending.

This was a pleasant, short and sweet romance. If you’re looking for a brief, fast-paced romance with a plot that could have been spun into a larger novel, then you’ll enjoy A Moonlit Mirage. Personally, I’m not a fan of the secret agent/spy trope, but I was willing to give it a try because I read Amy McKinley’s Fake Fiancé: A Second Chance Office Romance and I immediately fell in love with her writing.

There were two main reasons why this book didn’t work for me. First, the narration by Regan Brown was subpar. The performance felt rushed and monotonous, and the story could have benefitted from being read with more emotion or at least voice inflections.

Second, I had issues with the structure of the romance. As a reader, I didn’t appreciate the “big reveal” McKinley was going for at the end. You don’t find out who Nadia really is or why she’s a secret agent until we find out why she was involved with Cade’s nearly fatal car accident, all of which is only discussed right before their *spoiler warning* happy ending together. Without having proper context for their characters, it felt like they just fell in love for no reason. If you don’t mind the “love at first sight” plot device, then this romance won’t bother you.

Moonlit Mirage (A Cook Islands Romance) AUDIO BOOK by Amy McKinley – Review by Jenique Bornman

Amy McKinley has definitely made a new fan out of me with this action packed short story, and at to that Regan Brown as the narrator and you have gold in this one and a half hour listen.

The characters are really well developed, especially for a Novella and the storyline has so much packed into this short story.
I’m definitely checking out the rest of this series.

I read this book a few months ago and when I saw it on Audio i just had to grab it. I have just recently started listening to audio books and going back and grabbing them from some of my favorite authors has made me look forward to so many more.

So after reading Covert Threat and the little snippet at the end about finding out what Hannah was up to I had to grab this book. This is kind of a part of The Gray Ghost series with a few of the characters crossing over, this was a super quick read that was full of all kinds of content, leaving out all the extra info that is normally a part of longer stories, yet still contained everything you expect when reading anything by this author. It jumped right in (lol you’ll understand why that was kinda funny when you read it) and had me on the edge of my seat right from the get go. Completely curious where this newer series will go, not sure if it will still be part of The Gray Ghost or what this author has in mind but I’m completely ready to find out because I love this all taking place in The Cook Islands, I could almost visualize everything that was mentioned in this story.

Loved it!

Moonlight Mirage is a novella in the Moonlit Destination series by Amy McKinley. With being a novella, I felt like it was missing some detail. Her writing style is amazing, and I love all her books. The characters are likeable and the chemistry between Cade and Nadia was instant. I with there was more details given to their past, as it felt brushed over, told in passing. I did like the mysterious feel to it. We didn’t learn the details of their meeting until near the end of the book. I felt like the story ended abruptly, however, I’m hopeful their story continues in another book in the future. There is mentioning of characters from other McKinley books, so that was a pleasant surprise. This is a quick read, with a happily ever after. I recommend this book, and am onto the next in the series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cade Malone and Nadia Bennet are two people from completely different worlds, but who shared an unexpected connection in one fleeting moment in time, when one of them rescued the other from certain death. We start with Cade as he is driving home at night when a car swerves in front of him and into his lane just as they are about to cross a bridge, there is a loud crack, but nothing to worry about, it was just a rock thrown up by the car, so he opens the car windows to get a breeze in to help him keep awake after the long day he has had. He is nearly across the bridge and nearly home and safe, until another car comes up behind him and speeds up, the car is straddling both the lanes on the bridge and although he has sped up, the car is still gaining on him and as they are starting to pass him, this one actually hits him and sends him careening off he bridge and into the freezing cold river below.

As Cade is sinking and the water is pouring in through the open window, he realises that the seatbelt is stuck and he can’t get free, as he takes his last breath and hopes that someone has seen and is going to rescue him, someone does, he sees a young woman swimming towards him, she is small, but she is about to help him, she smashes the window and on being unable to open the door, she disappears. Just as Cade is thinking that she has left, she reappears and moves to kiss him, when she does, that is when the connection is made and he goes with it, when he realises that it is more than a kiss and that she breathes into his mouth when he eventually opens it, she keeps doing this until help arrives and she leaves him.

As she leaves the Cade in the water, Nadia gets out and meets with another person waiting at the water’s edge, she hands over the keys which were her objective in getting to the car, but she also cut the seatbelt to free Cade at the same time, all because she has been thrown by the connection she felt with Cade while underwater. She hands over the keys and then her mission is completed and she could get on with her life as far away from Cade as possible. That is until one night years later when their paths unexpectedly cross again on one of the Cook Islands at a resort party, they are both as surprised as the other, but that connection they felt is still as strong as ever, but was this a planned meeting, will their pasts return to haunt them, or will they be able to make the most of that connection and strengthen it?

This is a romance with a twist of danger and an emotional ride with twists and turns throughout, but the ending is well worth the ride.

The connection between the main characters where amazing I also enjoyed the description of the Island; I could imagine being there and enjoying the scenery.

Years ago, Cade and Nadia meet in some special circumstances. Cade never forgot the woman that saved his life years ago. Nadia was not supposed have feeling for Cade he was a mark. So now years later they run into each other. Nadia wants to run and Cade does not want to let her go.

Will Nadia be-able to tell Cade her secrets? Will Cade forgive Nadia? Will they move past all the secrets and have a happily ever after?

It was the risk of a lifetime and it was all worth it even if she loses everything because of it. Cade vows to find her again and he won’t let her go next time. When you meet the man of your dreams but the best way to love him is to leave, can your heart ever recover.

Cade is driven off the road into the river but as he is sinking into the river wondering how he will escape an angel comes and recuses him, although they are safe as soon as he tries to find she vanishes into think air. Nadia recuses Cade but when the instant attraction happens she needs to escape quickly before it gets more complicated.

Although they both can’t the incident out of there minds a chance meeting years later ignites the chemistry between them but can both of them take a risk and chance a relationship.

I loved this book, as with all Amy’s books they are full of action and well written characters, this is a great taster and you are left wanting more with these two wonderful people. This is the second book I’ve read by Amy McKinley. I love her ability to create a story and characters instantly. This was a very small book, but still packed the emotion I’ve come to recognize from Amy. Our main female character is Nadia. She’s complicated and I don’t want to give too much away. Our main male character is Cade. He’s a sweet man who loves with his whole heart and you can’t help but adore. I do wish this was a bit of a longer story, but I can’t wait to read more from this author.
