I listened to this via audiobook. Around three hours of listening time, this is a great audiobook. The length is perfect for a day of listening while puttering around the house on summer break. The narrator does amazing character voices! A twenty-year-old crime set against a backdrop of historical tragedy, listeners are drawn into a mystery. I was not expecting the book to wrap up the way it did, so I was pleasantly surprised with the ending.

Here’s what I thought of Murder Creek by Jane Suen:
I gave it 4/5 stars.

Murder Creek (Eve Sawyer Mystery Book 1)
This book went by way too fast though I didn’t realize it at the time. I have listened to a lot of audiobooks, especially over the last 2 1/2 years working from home, there have been a few that have drawn me in like this but not many. I was caught up in the story immediately and had a hard time pausing it when I got calls for work.
Marni Penning’s voice was just perfect and only helped draw me in further. I will definitely look for more books narrated by her.
Eve’s curiosity about Murder Creek and in turn what happened to Lacey all those years ago. She doesn’t give up until she has answers and some of these answers are where she least expected them to be.
I’m looking forward to the the next book and what gets into next.

College student Eve Sawyer is needing to finish a paper for her journalism class, but her heart is not in it. Eve stumbles upon Murder Creek, a place with a haunting history and a more recent incident. The disappearance of Lacey Walken twenty years ago. Eve makes a pitch to her instructor to change her paper and he agrees sending Eve to Murder Creek to see if she can provide any insight as to what happened. Will she uncover who was involved or why Lacey disappeared?
I listened to the audiobook version and was pulled in right away. You get to know the towns people and what happened leading up to Lacey’s disappearance. The pacing of the story is good and I would definitely check out the next book in the series.

I found the narration quite a entertaining addition to the story. She adds attitude and personality to the characters. The story rocks. Strong female sleuth figures out the mystery. She is up against a town trying to hide the secret of who killed a woman 20 years prior. This was a delightful mystery that had pitfalls and twists at the best spots. Every time I’m thinking I figured it out, here came a curve. I love cozy mysteries because of the humor while you are solving them. I would recommend this to all my cozy mystery fans out there.

It has been quite a while since I read this book so when I saw the audio version I thought it would be a great way to go through a re-read. I thought the narrator did a great job. I was completely pulled into the story and, although I knew what was going to happen, I still felt the mystery and the intrigue. I was lost in the story from the moment I started listening. I think it works well as a short book, I could fit this story in easily to a hectic schedule.
This is an author that I really enjoy and I think the books translate well to audio. I really enjoyed getting into this book and I will definitely be listening to more.

Murder Creek is a story about a college student named Eve, who is working on a term paper. She states that she always gets weird feelings about different events in time, like murder. She ended up feeling something eerie at Murder Creek. This feeling was so strong she started to research the history of Murder Creek and became curious about the disappearance of a young teen girl named Lacey. This brought her to visit Murder Creek and start to investigate this unsolved case. Much of the town was very quiet about this story, but Eve’s determination started to open people up to giving some answers. I enjoyed this book. As someone who loves to solve puzzles, I had fun trying to figure out where the story was going to take me. There are many characters that play a part in this book so I would say pay attention. Also I liked how with new information I was finding myself revamping my theory. While I did not fall in love with any of the characters, they all played a good role. I enjoyed the story line and it was a quick read.

A fun quick read/listen. Eve is a college student with a heightened sense of intuition who finds herself investigating a small town cold case for a journalism paper. She goes on a journey to try to solve the mystery of a missing girl. Once in Murder Creek, she finds the townspeople to be receptive to her questions. The time she spends there, she learns of a second mystery that occurred 200 years ago – and the facts of both cases helps her solve the case. Eve is a likeable character who you will want success for. This is an easy-to-read mystery best suited for teens and young adults as well as general audiences who like clean, quick read mysteries on the light side.

College student Eve Sawyer senses something disturbing at Murder Creek—the
site named for infamous murders committed centuries earlier and where Lacey
Walken went missing.
Twenty years ago, Lacey disappeared without a trace … except for her bloody scarf tangled in fallen branches at the muddy water’s edge.
Drawn to this cold case, Eve goes back to investigate and write a report for her journalism class. As she discovers a small town’s long-buried dark secrets, the pieces of the puzzle come together: the legacy of a man, the fate of a beautiful woman, and the lives that changed forever.
But someone wants Eve to stop—someone with everything to lose.

Murder Creek is an entertaining murder mystery. I loved the character of Eve Sawyer she just love’s a mystery and just cant stop herself from investigating, but there is someone who does not want her to dig into it and tries to stop her, can she find out what happened to the missing girl or will she become a target and end up being the story in the paper for once and not the writer.

Murder Creek is the first book in the Eve Sawyer Muster series by Jane Suen. I love all of her books, as they are short but sweet. Every page counts with this book. So much is happening and it feels like a fully story despite its 159 page length. Eve is a journalism student with somewhat of a 6th sense. She passes over Murder Creek one weekend, and feels very drawn to it. Upon brief research, she discovers there was a massacre there centuries ago, as well as a possible killing/missing person case. She decides to investigate further, traveling to the small town. She quickly noses her way into the small town and its residents. I loved where the story ended up, wrapped up perfectly with a little bow. I don’t want to give anything away, but do yourself a favor and read this book. It will only take a day or two. Now, onto book 2 in the series!

Murder Creek opens with a sketch of Eve Sawyer that introduces us to our protagonist. She is an empath with an acute ability to understand the actions and motivations of others. Being attuned to the people around her enables her to notice details that others might gloss over. She seems to have an innate sense of appreciating others, and that, coupled with her calm and carefree attitude towards life will be one of the key factors that will help her on her journey to solve the disappearance of Lacey Walken. This book has a similar narrative arc as Murder at Lolly Beach, and I enjoyed it just as much. Eve is a likeable character, one who you find yourself rooting for without even meaning to. She is honest, focused, and tenacious in not giving up even when others wish she would. As the clues to Lacey’s disappearance become revealed, I couldn’t help but try to suss out who was responsible right along with her. I normally have a preference for longer books, but I found this one to be just the right length for the story. It was a fun way to while away an afternoon at home, cozy in my pajamas, with a fire going for ambience. I definitely recommend this as a lovely way to spend a few hours. Dig in and enjoy!

Eve Sawyer is a journalism student, but she also has these heightened senses which she cannot ignore nad they help in some situations, but they also won’t leave her alone and settle when they start up and when she is minding her own business and driving home when she drives over a bridge with a sign saying “Murder Creek” and she gets a prickling sensation in her spine and the almost overwhelming need to look down at the creek and know what happened there and this feeling of agitation and restlessness didn’t leave until she had gotten home and looked up the name and in doing so finds out about two significant events, a murder of a group of men on the banks in the 1800’s and a missing girl, Lucy Walken from twenty years ago. When Eve gets to college the next day, she immediately goes to see her professor to ask for him to give her an incomplete grade so that she can go and investigate what happened at Murder Creek over the summer break, he reluctantly agrees and so when shehas finished with everything else to complete her other classes, she heads to Murder Creek and finds a motel to stay in while also finding out that there will be a funeral that weekend and if she wants to stay in the motel longer, she will have to let the owner know in advance.
When she gets settled, she calls the contact her professor had said may help her with the investigation, so they agree to meet at the local diner and they talk about what she is in town for over dinner, he agrees to help her and to start, will take her to Murder Creek itself. That night Eve can’t sleep because of the horrific dreams she has of the two cases, but nevertheless, she is up and ready when her guide shows up, when they get there, the scene is peaceful, the complete opposite of the images which assault her senses, but when she goes to where Lacy’s bloody scarf was found, she only got the prickling sensation, but thankfully, no more images and when Eve returns to her room, she goes over her notes and makes a list of what she needs to find out. She looks at the phone book and finds the listings for Walken’s, she calls the two she finds and arranges to meet one the next morning, but the other just tells her she can’t be of any help. Later on, Eve is taken to see the sheriff as a courtesy to tell him what she is doing there and to ask him what he knows, but he is quite closed off and won’t help them, but Eve has another way to get the information she wants and asks to go to the newspapers main office and places an ad in for anyone to call her if they have any information.
As Eve digs deeper into the case and learns more about Lacey, she realises that this beautiful girl was more than meets the eye and whatever happened to her doesn’t quite match up and when she starts talking to people, something still doesn’t seem to add up, but it seems that the key detail is still missing and she worries that she may never know what it is when it turns out that the funeral is for one of the towns main benefactors.
Will Eve be able to uncover the truth about what happened to Lacey, or will the dead ends and lost leads conspire against her? This is a mystery to get your teeth into and will keep you guessing until the very end.

Murder Creek (An Eve Sawyer Mystery) by Jane Suen is a great mystery. First off, I thought it was interesting that Eve Sawyer relies one her extra senses, the ones she doesn’t share with others, to help her solve things. Murder Creek got its name because of a gruesome murder of some young men in the 1800’s. Eve feels something strange when she goes over the bridge crossing Murder Creek. This leads her to start researching the disappearance 20 years ago of Lacey Walken, a beautiful teenager who disappeared without a trace. The story had a twist I didn’t expect but throughly enjoyed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I loved the writing style and how the author described her surroundings; I could really picture what she was seeing. The author got the name for this book from a place she’s personally been to, which made this book all the more personal; that added to the fact I could relate to her when she mentioned having a morbid curiosity about crime made me feel all the more closer to the book and the author which I think is so important. This was a really easy read and I’m excited to read more from the author.

Eve Sawyer is working through her journalism degree and decides she wants to investigate a missing persons case a couple hours from home for her final paper.
When Eve arrives to town and starts asking questions some of the locals are helpful and others are hostile about the questions. Ultimately Eve finds the answers she is looking for.

I enjoyed this cozy mystery novel featuring journalism student Eve Sawyer who sets out to investigate a twenty year old missing persons case. Lacey Walken disappeared in suspicious circumstances from Murder Creek, a place named after the infamous murders that happened there centuries before. The deeper Eve digs into the story the more danger she puts herself in as someone in the small community is not happy that this old case is being looked into again. I found Eve was a great main character as she’s likeable and relatable and really bought the storyline together. I found Eve’s psychic visions really added a different layer to the overall story. The author really bought the sinister setting of Murder Creek to life with her descriptive narrative and I felt engaged in the story. I was hooked from page one and the twists and turns kept me guessing until the end as the suspense built. I look forward to further books in this series.

Murder Creek is a murder mystery by Jane Suen. I have read quite a few books by this writer and I knew that I’d be in for a treat – the writing was smooth and the characters were intriguing and the story was compelling! On top of it all, Murder Creek is a standalone so if you are a lover of mystery stories then you don’t need to be concerned with whether there is a backstory etc. and you can simply grab a copy and enjoy yourself! Jane Suen gives us Eve Sawyer who has a bit of sixth sense going on and she gets drawn to the unsolved disappearance of Lacey Walken. Eve is stubborn and even though Lacey disappeared years ago, she is determined to figure out what happened to her! We follow the clues along with Eve and meet all the additional characters that make as look up and ponder “I wonder what they are hiding”… The deeper Eve digs the more dangerous the situation turns and you will be biting your fingernails and hoping that she solves it before she becomes an unsolved case herself!

The story is told in the main characters POV as she is on the path to finding the truth of a mystery that surrounds Murder Creek.
Eve Sawyer wants to be a journalist, so when she stumbles across Murder Creek she knows she has to find the truth and what happened to Lacey Walken. This journey takes her to meet many people and find many clues but what she finds was far from what she expected.

What a read! Jane Suen is a new author for me and I absolutely loved this book. It was fantastically written, flowed from chapter to chapter and completely and utterly pulled you into the read! It had you on the edge of your seat with the suspense and mystery that is weaved through this read. This read was written in such a way you could mentally visualise what was happening in the story, and it made you believe you were there alongside the characters living out the story. With not wanting to give to much of the story away, you will definitely not be disappointed you picked up this read! I can’t wait to see what else this author brings, ill be eagerly waiting for whatever comes next!

Murder Creek by Jane Suen is a great mystery despite the limited pages. Jane Suen’s writing ability is above par and it is evident in each and every story written. In Murder Creek, the author has created Eve who is an amazing lead character. The extent and depth she goes for something that drives her interest is remarkable despite the creepy chill of the events that occurred. The suspense was well paced to last throughout the story garnering reader interest, along with the overall story line. This is a must read author. Once you read one, you’ll want to read more!!

Murder Creek by Jane Suen a five-star read that is worth solving. This is my favourite of this author, there was just something special about it, it really takes you into the story, it gives you the brain itch, you need to figure it out alongside Eve. Eve was a surprise, she was almost like a dog with a bone at times, but it meant that her passion flew from the page. I must say don’t start this one when you don’t have time as you wont want to put it down, Jane Suen has a great way of pulling you in and making you care, Eve feels so well done.
