I loved the imaginative twist on the mythology of the loch ness monster. I think older children would really enjoy this twist on an adventure fantasy story. I think it is definitely aimed at children 8 and up with a better reading ability.

Another Wickstrom story, well loved by my niece and nephew. She has become one of their most asked for authors. Craig and Linda’s adventures with Nessie have become their favorite. They can’t wait to see what adventure they all have next. While this story is geared more toward the 8 to 10 year old range, it can easily be enjoyed by younger children. My family would recommend this book as well as the author.

This is the second installment in the Nessie series with Craig and Linda along for another adventure! I never hesitate to pick up one of Wickstrom’s books and I love her chapter books as much as I do her picture books. She’s always weaving lessons and learning together in such a way that kids don’t even know they are getting something out of it! This is a book that your older ones can read on their own or you can use this as a family read-aloud. I love the illustrations sprinkled throughout the book and I can’t wait to see what Nessie’s (and Craig and Linda’s) next adventure will be.

Craig took something that did not belong to him. Now he is back and their is a new family who has a young girl who is quite boisterous. With a talented singer coming to perform a concert, Craig and Linda find that their is something afoot with Nessie. Can they stop the harm that is threatening Nessie and her family before it is too late?
Another good one in this series. I think the story delved into some of the emotional influences children can have at their ages. The illustrations are beautiful and just enhance the story.

Another adventure with the legendary creature residing beneath a famous lake. The sibling duo has returned to the famous tourist attraction a year after their unforgettable first visit. During this visit, readers learn the difference between looking less childish, and the actions required to lead them on their pathways to adulthood. The main characters must battle their own selfish tendencies, and convince adults around them to do likewise. This is a great children’s book, and it features Celtic folklore as well as Celtic folk songs.

This is a great chapter book for an adventurous kiddo! Craig is still on the hunt for Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster, when he uncovers some gold coins. But these coins aren’t just regular coins, they are enchanted and allow Craig to discover the entrance to Nessie’s cave. Interwoven within this mystical book are historical facts about Scotland as well as scientific ones, and let’s face it it wouldn’t be a Lois Wickstrom book if there’s wasn’t a little science mixed in there! Overall this book is fantastic and will keep a young chapter book reader entertained!

I am really enjoying the adventures with Craig and Linda and their mission to save Nessie’s Grotto. I didn’t think they would ever see Nessie again from the last time they were there, their parents seemed really upset with them talking about Nessie constantly, but I am glad they were able to come back. The lesson on earthquakes and seismographs is a great addition to the book, it gives children something to actually learn while reading a fun story. I look forward to their next adventure with Nessie.

My five year old son loved it so much we’ve read it three times already and I’m there will be many more. Follow along with Craig and Linda and Loch Ness Monster as they take us on another fun and exciting adventure. The illustrations help to bring the story to life and my son loved them. Nessie and the Viking Gold is a children’s chapter book for kids between the ages of 7-12 years of age. It is Book Two in the Nessie’s Grotto Series and continues with the adventures of Craig and Linda who have returned to Loch Ness. On their last visit Craig took some Viking gold coins that could be either blessed or cursed and might possibly be the only way to return to Nessie’s Grotto. Nessie shows Craig and Linda the damage being done to her Grotto and how her children are in danger. Now the children must try to find a way to stop a concert about to be held by a popular singer at Urquhart Castle before it destroys Nessie’s Grotto. The children are in for an adventure full of fun, action, magic, Vikings, Mermaids, and magic. Along the way they will forge friendships and learn about making decisions. A fun read with beautiful illustrations that really bring the story to life.

This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up because my kids and I love reading all of her books so much! We read the first book in this series together, so we were ecstatic to get our hands on the second installment! I thought my youngest (8-year-old) would be just out of range for this one, but he was definitely intrigued throughout the entire book. We also love the Loch Ness monster, and this just solidified our feelings! I enjoyed that the Scottish culture was represented, and the illustrations sprinkled throughout helped make the story come to life. The author does an amazing job keeping us on our toes to see if Nessie will be safe in the grotto or if a crazy rock concert will cause too much disruption. I highly recommend this book to not only the young ones in your life, but also for you!

“Nessie and the Viking Gold” by Lois June Wickstrom is an entertaining and engaging children’s book that takes readers on a thrilling adventure involving stolen coins, a legendary Loch Ness monster, and a rock concert at a historic castle. The story follows Craig, who unwittingly steals coins from a Viking treasure chest at the bottom of Loch Ness.
What makes this story particularly interesting is the unique twist that the stolen coins are somehow blessed or cursed, leading Craig to Nessie’s lair. The author manages to create an atmosphere of mystery and suspense with this plot point, keeping readers engaged from the very beginning.
The book also incorporates elements of Scottish culture, such as the setting of Urquhart Castle and the rock concert featuring the characters’ favorite singer. This adds depth and authenticity to the story, making it more relatable and enjoyable for young readers. Even as an adult, I learned things, such as the Loch was formed because it is on a fault line.
Overall, “Nessie and the Viking Gold” is a well-written and imaginative children’s book that successfully combines elements of adventure, mystery, and Scottish culture. The characters are likable and relatable, and the plot is engaging and fast-paced. Young readers will surely enjoy the thrilling escapades of Craig and Linda as they navigate their way through this exciting tale.

Despite it being a longer book by this author, it was still a fun and quick read. It kept my son’s attention and he couldn’t wait to hear more. I haven’t read the first book in this series, but I don’t feel like I was really missing anything. My son and I loved the adventure the kids went on to try to save the Grotto.

Nessie and the Viking Gold (Nessie’s Grotto) by Lois Wickstrom and Jean Lorrah. I love this author so my nephew and I are always excited to read them. This one is another adventure with Craig & Linda at the grotto which their parents are terrified of due to being scared of them drowning. They are going to enjoy all kinds of fun things including a concert, a Viking treasure hunt and Nessie their friends home may be in danger. Nessie is based of the Loch Ness Monster and she is friends with Craig & Linda. This series is geared towards 7-12 year olds but my 5 year old nephew loves them. Nessie and the Viking Gold is the second book in the Nessie’s Grotto series by Lois Wickstrom. This continues the ‘Nessie’s Grotto’ adventures we started in book one and is another intriguing chapter storybook for children aged 7 – 12 years-old. It is a delightful fantasy with adventure, myths & legends, action, drama, emotion, secrets, discovery, suspense, challenges, choices, tension, and more. There are over a dozen cute illustrations sprinkled throughout the storybook which help to bring the whole story to life. The story is woven around Loch Ness, Nessie – the Loch Ness Monster, Craig & Linda’s treasure, and the challenges that brings. What happens makes for a fun read. The series (so far): -Nessie and the Living Stone (Book #1) -Nessie and the Living Gold (Book #2) -Nessie and the Celtic Maze (Book #3) Happy Reading…

I’ve really enjoyed these longer length books from this author. I love the magic that comes through in this story as we go along with Craig, Linda and the Loch Ness Monster. With all the superstitions around the Loch Ness Monster and does it really exist I like that these books are opening up some magical and imaginative world underneath the loch where the monster lives. It’s great for getting children’s creativity and imaginations going. This was another great read. It was a lovely engaging story with nice illustrations to accompany.

I enjoyed this book. The mystery was intense. It totally grabbed me right from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. I liked the many perspective points of view of the team and the timeline jumps. It kept it fresh and exciting. So many villians and the loyal team members were trying to really help the boys. There is lots of action, drama and a touch of romance. The intrigue makes it feel a tad like Indiana Jones. This has been a really neat series to read. My grandson isn’t quite old enough to read it yet but I’ve got it on my bookshelf for him. Thank you for sharing this really entertaining adventure.

Nessie and the Viking Gold is part of the Nessie’s Grotto series and the story was fun, engaging and magical. Craig and Linda are back at the Grotto for more adventure and fun…but of course Craig and Linda’s parents do not want the kids to go near the water as to them it is dangerous. The adventure is only starting as there is a popular concert to be held at Urquhart Castle that Linda wants to go to, a Viking treasure to be discovered and Nessie’s home may be in danger. What happens when the story unfolds….will Nessie be safe and fun and treasures be discovered? Definitely read and find out.
This story is geared toward ages 5-8 but I believe this story could be enjoyed even for the young at heart. This was a fun read with engaging illustrations…looking forward to reading the next Nessie adventure!

Another cute story following Nessie, Craig, and Linda. The siblings are at a concert, but this event is causing problems for Nessie in her grotto. It was an enjoyable adventure story perfect for bedtime with my tiny humans. Having read the first book previously for a bedtime story the kids were excited to continue with these characters.
I highly recommend this as a bedtime story for younger children. My family looks forward to reading more books by this author.

Nessie and the Viking Gold is the delightful second magical book in the Nessie’s Grotto series. The beautiful cover and illustrations by Sara Silvestris Strand bring the story to life making it an even more imaginative and captivating tale. The story is 47 pages and is aimed at children aged between 7 -12 years old, but it is a fun read for children of any age. My grandchildren aged 3 and 5 really enjoyed this engaging story even though they could not read it their little eyes lit up as they went on this adventure. Craig and Linda find themselves caught up in another fantastical adventure with the Loch Ness Monster and the hidden mystical world beneath Loch Ness where there is action, magic and a little suspense. What do the Loch Ness Monster, Viking treasure and a rock concert have in common? To find out you will have to read it.

This has been my least favorite book by this author so far, but it’s still an enjoyable story.
Everyone’s favorite rock star is in town for a big concert. However, when Craig and his sister go back to visit with Nessie, they learn that all the drumming is causing issues in Nessie’s grotto. Can they stop the concert and save the grotto before it’s too late?
It was a good story but it did seem to lack some plot development. This is the second book in this series and I have read the first one prior to this one. This is a book that is a bit longer than most of this author’s style of books as well, so maybe that’s a bit why. I would still recommend this book to be read by young readers or reading it to younger listeners.

Having only read the previous book in the series recently, we were excited to get our hands on this story. This is a great follow up to the first book and it was nice to see my children remember the characters and re-engage with them. This story was just as fun and exciting to read and it was lovely to join Craig and Linda on another adventure. With every book I read by this author I always think that the next one can’t be as good. Yet time and time again she proves otherwise. I am already looking forward to the next book we can read as a family and always enjoy reading each and every book again. I would highly recommend this author and this book.

Craig stole coins from a Viking Treasure Chest at the Bottom of Loch Ness
The coins Craig stole from the Vikings were either blessed or cursed. They brought him back to Nessie’s lair. A rock concert with their favorite singer is about to perform at Urquhart Castle. But the sound waves from the wild music are causing chaos in Nessie’s Grotto.
What can Craig and Linda do to protect Nessie and her children? And still get to hear their favorite singer?
Lois Wickstrom lives in a world where imaginary playmates are real. She doesn’t remember being born, so she finds unbirthdays are more exciting than the official once-a-year date on the calendar. She’s taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales.
Jean Lorrah is a New York Times Best Selling author. She is also a retired English teacher, and an award winning artist. She has written Star Trek books with Jacqueline Lichtenberg, and books in worlds of her own creation. Together with Lois, she is co-author of Coal for Christmas which won the Gold Remi at Worldfest.
