OMG!! I am head over heels for this series! I have read each book in this series including the prequel and I can’t wait to finish each book! This author has a superpower when it comes to creating characters and just writing in general.
Sky just wants to make her best friend Gia’s senior year one to remember and help her check everything off her ridiculous list! Even if it means Sky will have to be the game piece when Gia sets her sights on Damon Savage. What Sky didn’t anticipate was that she would end up falling for Damon behind her best friend’s back.
In each book that I read by this author, she has me falling more and more in love with her work!

This is the third book in this series. But the first of 2 books about Sky and Damon. And if you liked the first 2 books you’ll absolutely love this…
Broody bad boy and take no nonsense Femal MC. Match made in heaven. The authors takes you on a ride with her storytelling and I couldn’t put it down. The character development is excellent and well thought out. The plot is also perfect and melds well with the first 2 books. There’s some character crossover so I would definitely read the first 2.
With the huge cliffhanger I’m super excited that the next book is releasing soon.

As an adult the issues in this book seem so “child-like” but as an adult of a senior/graduating high schooler these situations are scary- very real and very scary. These situations also seem like too much for young adults to handle. With that being said…UGH! WTF! More high school drama for the Elite at Hidden Valley Academy. Really! Wow!

This time it’s about Damon, brother of Cole. Cole was the star in Savage Start, Savage Lies and Savage Truth. Books that should be read in order but don’t necessarily need to be read before Brutal Days. Damon is the star now, he is in a group called the Elite. They are the top of the top of the popular kids at school…the Elite. Skylar is also a senior at Hidden Valley Academy. She would rather remain a wallflower but when her BFF Gia sets her sights on Damon as part of her “four point plan”, Skylar knows she has to step in. But of course things don’t go as planned. Lies are easier to spin than hurting friends.

Skylar and Damon are HOT. If I put their ages out of my mind…oh my!! Their push and pull..their anger and hate and oh my! Yeah, this is a book that should be read. Period. The cliffhanger ending…oh ding dang daisy….yeah…bring on those Brutal Nights!

This is the first book that I have read by this author, and I was hooked! I couldn’t put this book down as I needed to know what happened next! I truly loved reading this book and getting an insight to what was in Bens mind while being married realizing that was not the life that he wanted. I was reading this book as fast as I could and was sad when I realized that I had finished it. If this is not a book that you have read yet, you need to add it to your list because IT WAS SO GOOD!!

This entire series has been phenomenal and Brutal Days did not disappoint! The heat, the hatred, the lies, and secrets kept between Damon and Skylar keep this book going and the inferno between them growing bigger and hotter. High school bully is one of my top favorite tropes, and I look forward to continuing this series, it has been one of the best series I’ve ever read!

I am officially ADDICTED to this series. As always, the author leaves us with a MASSIVE cliffhanger and an insane amount of audacity at the end of this book. This is the 3 book in HVE, but the first book in the duet for Damon and Skylar. You could read this as a stand alone duet, but it makes more sense to read all 3 books for the series, considering that the characters all tie together some way. I cannot WAIT for the next book in the series/duet, because I have got to know what happens after that cliffhanger. June 22nd can’t get here fast enough!!

This was another great 5 star read from this author. She is continuing to pull me in with her writing and I don’t want to stop until I’m done. This whole series is great, if you like High School Bully romance I highly suggest this book and series. This is Damon and Skylar’s story. There is a little hiccup when Skylar’s BFF wants the same guy she does. What will happen? This really added quite the storyline and made things very interesting. We get so much in this read, unexpected twists and turns, steam and so much more. All of the characters added a great element to the story. I look forward to reading more from this author. I suggest starting with book one so that you can get to know all of the characters. 1-click and get started today.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Brutal Days is the third book in the Hidden Valley Elite series by Isla Vaughn, this story follows on from the previous books in the series but focuses on Damon and Skylar. Skylar makes a deal with the devil (or Demon) to help her best friend achieve her senior year goals, this ends up putting her on Damon’s radar and she can’t seem to stay away from him, not matter how hard she tries. I really liked this book, I was very disappointed that I have to wait a couple of weeks until the next one comes out! I need to know what is going to happen right now, it is definitely on my wish list. I knew from the start that the ending, or something similar, was going to happen but I really need to know how it is going to play out. I really liked the characters in this book, Damon showing his softer side and Sky calling him out on his behaviour, I am keeping my fingers cross that they can get a happy ending in the next book. I am really enjoying this series.

The Savage brothers are back, and Damon is on the scene.
What would one best friend do for another during their senior year…Skylar goes above and beyond for Gia. Choices are made; good? Bad? Depends on how you perceive this entanglement.
This is book one of their duet. The author leaves us with a cliffhanger worthy of more than a gasp and throwing a Kindle.

Luckily, we won’t have too long to wait to see the conclusion of this fiery duo.

OMFG!!!!!!!!! My friends are back and they brought some new people. I am down for that. I have missed these characters. On a side note, I should totally take stars off my rating for that ending. I knew it was going to end on a cliffhanger but Uhhhhhhhh, I was not expecting to be there dangling just by my fingertips on my strong hand waiting on the rescue of the next book.

Okay, let’s catch up on what happened. Riley and Cole have gone off to college leaving behind the rest of the Elite. Damon, Phoenix and Shane are starting their senior year of high school. Skylar, who made a brief appearance in Riley & Cole’s story, is a reporter writing for the school’s blog on the football team. This is where the conflict begins. Skylar writes an unflattering article on Damon and now he is out for blood but as much as he wants to take her down, he finds her intriguing.

Skylar is in the midst of her drama. Her best friend is on a mission to complete a list of goals to make senior year awesome, Skylar is not interested. Skylar’s abusive father is about to get out of jail. She just needs to get through the year to get the heck out of dodge, as the saying goes. She might have written that article to rile Damon but also because it was how she saw it. Now, Skylar needs Damon’s help to make the best friend’s senior year goal list a reality. It just comes with a price.

The consequences of Skylar’s actions are catching up to her and now she is caught between a rock and a hard demon. Will her choices justify the ends? I sure don’t know but I hope the next book will tell me!!!

This author, this series….UHHH-effing-mazing!!!! The author draws you and then teases you with crumbs of information that will make sense later when you realize you know. The characters’ emotions are as real as the pages on which they are written. Beautiful. I crave the next book but know that when I devour it, it will only leave me wanting more.

This is the third book of the series. It can be read as a standalone but it references characters and some things that happened in the first two books. Honestly, the whole series is so good you should just start at the beginning.

Gia wants a memorable senior year. Best year ever and all that. Sky, as Gia’s best friend, wants to support her and help her achieve whatever it is she wants to do. Sky doesn’t realize that Gia’s list includes Damon. She’s not happy about it but she does the only thing she can think of and that is ask Damon for a favor. Damon is intrigued by Sky and the best way to get to her is to help her out. What could go wrong?

I absolutely loved this book!! I can’t wait for the next book. It was so well written. The characters are great. You can really feel the turmoil Sky feels she’s in regarding her feelings about Damon. I couldn’t read this book fast enough!

Brutal Days: A High School Bully Romance (Hidden Valley Elite Book 3)Brutal Days: A High School Bully Romance by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Isla Vaughn created Brutal Days to continue her Hidden Valley Elite series. The book features Skylar McCormick and Damon Savage. Skylar has promised to help her friend, Gia, to get her senior year goals: get invited to the underground fight club where all the cool kids were; get a popular boyfriend; lose her virginity; and become prom queen. However, Skylar knows that this will not be as simple as Gia attempts to make it sound. The following day, Skylar is watching the football team practice since it assigned her to write an article for the school’s blog. Damon approaches her and tells her to come to the barbecue with him. He wasn’t asking since he knew almost every girl in Hidden Valley Academy wanted him. Skylar told him no. Unfortunately, Gia zeroed on Damon Savage as who she wanted to date.
Skylar had propositioned Damon on behalf of Gia. She offers to do all of Damon’s homework as long as he dates Gia. Damon told her for every date he had with Gia then she would have to pay him back by doing him “favors.” Skylar thought she could resist Damon’s charm, but find it attracted her to him. She finds she will go further with Damon than she ever imagined.

The story has several steamy moments, however; I had struggled with what actually made Skylar decide to lower her guard. I couldn’t imagine how she could claim to be loyal to Gia when she was happy with paying Damon with her own body. The end of the book was perfect in leaving readers hanging and wanting to read the sequel. I felt bad for poor Tucker- Cole beat him up for being around Riley and then Damon beat him up for being friends with Skylar.

I couldn’t wait to read Damon’s story and what a ride this first part was!
We met Skylar in Cole and Riley’s books but now we get to know her and how she finds herself in the crosshairs of Damon.

I have to say while Damon is a bit of a jerk in the other books, which I understand, he’s a softy underneath and guards himself. While I don’t agree with the deal he and Skylar have made behind her friends back, as all secrets come to light sooner or later whether you have control over it or not.

This cliffhanger was not what I was expecting at all and I can’t wait to dive into the next one and im sure it’ll be pretty explosive with how this ended.

Vivid imagery and intense feelings to be had. The cliffhanger ending has me dying for more.

This is the 3rd book in the Hidden Valley Elite series. I loved it!! I have read all the previous books in this series and i might have squealed a little when i got this book. Damon Savage is a football star destined for greatness. Skylar hates sport and athletes, that includes Damon. He has other ideas when it comes to Skylar. He can’t seem to stay away from her and he will do anything to get her, while she will do anything to help her friend. This book does end on a cliffhanger but seriously it is so good I can wait a month for the conclusion of Damon and Skylar’s story.

Brutal Days is the third book in the Hidden Valley Elite series, but it is the first book for Damon and Skylar. I didn’t think I could love a couple more than Riley and Cole (Book 1 and 2) but I was so wrong. Completely obsessed with them both separately and together. The “relationship” between Skylar and Damon starts out on completely crazy terms, but slowly it turned into something they both actually wanted, craved even. Their relationship is pure mind games from the beginning, on both sides. At the beginning Sky does not care AT ALL about Damon, at least that is what she says out loud, internally she is memorizing his insane body structure. Sky’s personality just makes Damon want her even more, they become a game for each other.

What will happen when the dust settles? Will Damon and Sky always hate each other, or can they get over it? Will Gia find out what Sky and Damon have been up to behind her back?

Skylar’s abusive father is set to be released soon from prison, what does that mean for her mother and herself? Will they need to flee in order to stay safe?

I cannot wait until June 22nd so I can read more of Damon and Skylar’s story!

This is a fantastic story. It looks at Benjamin who at first glance seems to have everything. However, as we all know, there is more than meets the eye. When he meets Caden he is forced to face things that he thought he had put behind him, or at least he would be able to ignore. Benjamin is such a well written character who faces situations that are like those we face in our lives – those situations where there is no easy answer and where there is no way that everyone involved can be happy. Benjamin and the story are so wrought with emotion. I definitely found myself unable to put this book down, reading as fast as I could, as I felt I was riding every emotion that Benjamin was. I definitely recommend reading this, as I can guarantee you will be unable to put it down and will be taken on an emotional journey.

After reading the Prequel of Isla Vanughn I understand book 2. I love how Riley will always protect her mom but at times is hard when Cole tries to take her attention away.

I can’t believe what the author Isla Vaughn did in this series. I read the other one but this one Damon is the lead in Hidden Valley. Hot and plays hard, Damon only has eyes for one person and that is Sky, but Sky only wants to help her friend Gia to go out with Damon. Caught in the middle Sky tries hard not to be in the way but Damon wants her badly…

Isla Vaughn did it again to keep me coming back for more. I recommend her books to anyone.

This book in the series did not disappoint. It was amazingly well written, had great characters and world building, even had the steam that I crave, all while being a little angsty. All of those traits lead to a very fast paced, quick read for me. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what was going to happen. What would you do if you BFF decided she wanted your crush? That is what happens with this story. The twists and turn, the lies being told, the wanting of someone you know you shouldn’t. It is all in this book. I can’t stress enough how amazing this series is and I feel like with every book that comes out in the series it is just a bit better than the last. Now, I normally state whether you would just pick this book up and start the series. However, this time I am going to say that you should start with the first book in this series because you do meet the characters for the future books throughout the stories, you don’t know how they will play a part in the upcoming books but you get a glimpse of who they are. I also might be biased because I absolutely love this series and think that everyone needs to read it!! If you do find yourself starting with this book in the series (which if we face it sometimes happens). You will be able to follow along smoothly, you just won’t have some background information on the characters. However, you will want to go back and read the other books in the series because you will be hooked. If you have a couple hours to just invest in yourself by reading a book let this one be the book you choose. You won’t be disappointed.

Book 3 is the story of Damon and Sky

Damon is one of the elites… he has everything he seemingly could ever want football popularity girls.. except one girl who catches his attention.

Sky is a loyal headstrong friend. Her BFF Gia has a “list” for senior year that she wants to complete and it includes Damon as her Boyfriend. Sky makes a deal with Damon to date Gia but she learns quickly that this game is going to cost so much more.

The simmering heat between Damon and Sky is red hot and the book definitely ends on one heck of a moment between them….

Confronting and raw
This is the first book I have read from this author and it was a pleasant surprise. The author’s writing is engaging and quickly grabs at your emotions. The storyline is not for the faint hearted as it is deals with real issues in a sensitive and realistic way. There were so many times that I felt my emotions peak as the characters faced some pretty confronting issues. With characters leading a double life and choices (and consequences) need to be addressed, this thought provoking story is not for everyone (*trigger warning) but is worthy a read.

Damon’s story does not disappoint!

If you’ve been reading this series since the beginning, then you know Damon…and his story is one you’re going to want to read! When Skylar’s best friend, Gia, is determined to have a popular boyfriend her senior year, Skylar is tasked with playing matchmaker. When Gia sets her sights on Damon, the guy who Skylar has a crush on (even though he goes against everything she believes in), Skylar finds herself having to play the game by Damon’s rules. However, these two seem to hate each other…but things start to turn and they find themselves fighting their growing attraction in order to keep their secrets safe. Will they be able to fight their own feelings? Or are some things worth the risk?

This book was just as good as the previous books. Skylar, Gia, and Damon are characters that pulled me in with their story. I couldn’t devour their story fast enough…only to come to the ending that has me waiting (not so) patiently for the next book!! I cannot say enough good things about this series!!

Isla Vaughn delivers the same great world building and character development as the earlier books in The Hidden Valley Elite Series. While I don’t think the first two books are necessary to read in order to understand this 3rd installment, I think they do help in developing the characters. Brutal Days has the same ups and downs as the first two books but a lot less life-or-death dramatics. I felt like this book was less rushed than the other books as well. But, thanks to great writing by Isla Vaughn, I was able to feel the depth of emotions just the same. There is so much cheekiness on Skylar’s end and so much unease masked by cockiness on Damon’s end, but together, there is so much raw connection between them. I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens between these two!

Underneath The WhiskeyUnderneath The Whiskey by Chelsea Lauren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Underneath the Whiskey is a gut-wrenching tale of a man who is struggling with his sexuality and feels compelled to be what society and his wife expect him to be. Benjamin is a successful businessman with a wife and young children. On the outside he seemingly has everything, but appearances can be deceiving. His marriage is more of a charade, and he has tried to force himself to be the man that his wife wants him to be. He went to conversion therapy as his wife insisted and was “cured” of his homosexuality after he had a brief affair with another man. Benjamin wanted to leave his wife but was unable to because she became pregnant, and he felt obligated to stay and care for her and the baby. Instead, he stayed, went to therapy, and forced himself to be happy in the life he had. Benjamin placed his time, focus, and energy into starting his dream business of owning a coffee shop.

Benjamin’s coffee shop business is thriving, with several locations now open, and he needs to hire a manager to help run the daily operations. This is when he meets Caden, who applies for the position of manager. Benjamin feels attracted to Caden and the two have an instant connection and he no longer must hide who he is. As the two spend time together and carry on a secret affair Benjamin finds himself conflicted with the double lives he is living. Both men have issues and baggage that they must work through as Benjamin is forced to face the demons from his past. Will Benjamin continue leading a double life? Will he finally leave his wife and come out of the closet?

This was a heart-wrenching and compelling read that had me riveted to the end. The storyline and scenes were well written, and the characters were ones that you instantly feel a connection to. Benjamin was a man that was unhappy in his life but felt obligated to stay out of a sense of duty to provide for his wife and children. He struggled with his sexuality, but his wife and therapist told him that he was wrong to feel that way and that his affair with another man was a mistake. This story was not full of sunshine and lollipops as Benjamin struggled through self-doubt, he sinks into despair, begins to drink to take the edge off, and starts to spiral out of control. Crippled by fear, doubt, insecurity, and familial obligation, Benjamin begins to hit rock bottom. This book may have triggers for some as it dealt with issues like alcoholism, suicidal thoughts, mental illness, conversion therapy, and abuse. It was filled with raw emotions that will take you on a rollercoaster ride and have you reaching for the Kleenex. I highly recommend!

Underneath The Whiskey by Chelsea Lauren. This genre is not usually my favorite but this book is so well written I loved it. Its the story of a guy named Ben who is married with kids and has a booming business. He seems like every other guy but inside he’s dying. Ben is gay but hasn’t been able to come out to anyone. His wife now knows but he told her he would stay married to her and take care of her and their child. His wife thinks she can change him with therapy and when he goes to therapy he gets brainwashed enough that he thinks he’s changed. Enter Caden, Ben hires Caden to run one of his new stores and he’s young, single and openly gay. Ben begins to have feelings for Caden. Not just friendly feelings either, as they spend more time together they fall in love and ease into a secret relationship. With pressure from Caden to tell his wife the truth and pressures of owning his booming business and coming out as gay he begins to drink and drink heavily. Will Ben be able to live his life completely happy and tell everyone the truth or will the alcohol ruin it all. This is a wonderful read that is so emotional on a deep level.

Underneath The Whiskey by Chelsea Lauren is the first book that I have read by her. It proved to be an interesting New Adult story- an MM romance packed full of emotion, angst, and drama. The story contains some sensitive topics that may be triggering for some readers- subjects such as alcohol abuse/addiction, suicidal thoughts, violence, past conversion therapy + electroshock therapy, mental illness, struggles, challenges, and sexual abuse – so if have issues with any of these topics, then this is probably not the book for you.
I may not have ‘liked’ the behaviour of our MC/s at times, but I understood why they were like that, and I really felt for them and everything they had been through. Having endured what they did, but then living a lie, to deny who they truly are, and then basically forced to live a double life and not being true to themselves- I can fully understand the mental anguish and toll that took on their emotional and mental health, and their downward spiral. So, if you were expecting a light, fluffy, boy meets boy and the birds start singing type story, then you are going to be disappointed- because this is raw, gritty, angsty, thought-provoking, and confronting —— but it is also much more.
Now I am off to see what else I can find of Ms. Lauren’s to explore.

Happy Reading…

Thank you, Chelsea Lauren!

This story is raw, gut wrenching and truly a roller coaster of emotion. Overall a really good story that I know hits home.

Emotions are high between Benjamin, Sophia and Caden…trying to navigate life, family and true feelings…sometimes just doing what has to be done day to day. Ben and Sophia are trying to raise their family the best way possible, but Ben also has turmoil within, struggling with his sexuality.
Ben believes that having a successful family after being made to go through torcherous therapy per Sophia is what he has to do. Everything changes when Ben meets Caden…..at first Ben hiring Caden on with his company but it turns into something more. When lies turn into more lies of Ben struggling to be with Sophia and Caden at the same time….the inner emotional turmoil comes to a full boil.

Will Ben be able to overcome and be truthful with both Sophia and Caden about his sexuality and stop hurting all that want to love him back?

This story is a lot of ups and downs, the heartbreaks, lies, abuse…..this was a very good story….
