Operation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk – Review by Karyn Taylor

Operation BoyfriendOperation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Operation Boyfriend is a young adult romance by Molly Zenk. I’m still confused as to my feelings about this book. On the one hand it’s really well written and there is great depth to the characters. On the other hand I wanted to give the leading female character a massive kick up the backside and I also despised her best friend with a passion.
Glynnis has a disastrous dating history. Her most recent boyfriend is about to have a commitment ceremony with another guy. Her mother is obsessed with her getting married and her best friend is adamant that she is going to find the ideal man for her.
Corin is the geeky nerd who has been watching Glynnis on the bus every day for 2 months before finally plucking up the courage to talk to her.
Corin and Glynnis get on great and are building a great friendship but best friend Kenley will do everything to sabotage their budding relationship.
This story is filled with so much angst and emotion. I loved Corin and thought he was just perfect for Glynnis. As someone who struggles with conflict, I probably should have had more empathy with Glynnis but I really, really wanted to give her a major kick up the backside and wanted her to tell Kenley to butt out of her life. And don’t start me on Kenley, I hated her so, so much. I really struggled to understand how Glyniss could be best friends with her.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book and adored Corin. The facebook conversations with Glynnis’ parents was hilarious too. This added to my enjoyment of the story.

Operation Boyfriend was a nice new adult romance read and one that I really enjoyed. When I first read the blurb I did think that the story was going to be a little predictable so I was very pleasantly surprised when it had me guessing a few times! I really liked Glynnis and can imagine many people can relate to some of the things she went through, she definitely had some bad luck when it came to relationships. I could really feel the dilemma she faced with both Corin and Daniel. I liked the twists that the author threw in to the story they definitely made me stop and think at times. The author’s easy writing style meant that I easily become absorbed into Glynnis life and I really did want her to find someone as nice as she was and I felt that she really deserved to be happy.
Overall a good 4 star read and one that I would recommend to other readers. This is also the first book that I have read by this author and I would like to read more from her again in the future.

I was in the market for something light and easy to read after a string of dark and deep novels and Operation Boyfriend couldn’t have been more perfect for just that. It was a sweet little new adult romance that was fun to escape into for the afternoon. I got quite wrapped up in Glynnis life and found myself finishing up the book in just under a few hours.

Glynnis had quite the messy breakup with her last guy… He left her for another man! So she finally heals herself enough to get back in the dating saddle and we find ourselves along for the fun ride. Not only does Glynnis find one guy who can make her heart skip a beat, but two! What will she do? How can she ever make a decision that could possibly turn out good?

I also found myself a new author with this book. Molly Zenk is completely new to me, but I quickly fell for the unique ways she managed to twist the story each time it would feel as if things could be predictable. I also really enjoyed the way she switched things up with the social media inserts etc. I look forward to seeing what else Ms. Zenk has in store for her readers!

This story is about a young woman who has doubts that she will ever find the right boyfriend. What happens when she meets not only one but two? Daniel and Corin.Corin doesn’t have much experience with relationships but then there is Daniel and he is everyone’s pick. Who will she choose? Will she pick with her heart or head? I kept hoping she would find her happiness. Find out what happens next. I highly recommend reading this Book.

This is the first book that I have read by Molly Zenk and I enjoyed it. Operation Boyfriend is a New Adult romance story about Glynnis who has had zero luck in the relationship department. We see her navigate through her college life and the ups and downs of social media. Two guys come into her life that throw her for a loop. One is quirky and awkward while the other is smooth and successful (just her type) but not everyone and everything is as it appears. Who will she pick?

I loved this story. Before diving into it I thought it was going to be a clear cut and dry story, like I knew exactly what would happen. Miss Zenk definitely threw in some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. This is definitely a must read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Operation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk is a young adult romance story that I have a love hate relationship with. The story is well written but I did not like the main character or her best friend. The MC is one who really wouldn’t think for herself and let others make her decisions for her in all aspects of her life. Her supposed best friend I would have given up if she was my friend. There is so much angst that many times I went to put the book down and give up but for some reason each time I pushed on. The premise of the story was good and there is some interesting twists and I loved the character, Corin, he found his way into my heart. There is a little humour in the story that made reading it a little more fun.

If you like a story that is full of young adult angst then I am sure you will enjoy this story.

Operation Boyfriend was good 4 star read.

We meet Glynnis who has a bad history with dating and her mother doesn’t fail to ever remind her of that. She is pushing her to find the one and get married. She has sworn off dating until her best friend convinces her to get back out in the dating world.

She meets Corin, a nerdy shy guy who has been watching her for two months trying to get the nerve up to talk to her. Thanks to his sisters encouragement he finally did. She also meets Daniel a successful and confident man. There is something that she likes about each of them.

There are some other strange twists that occur and makes you question some things. Are things really as they seem? Overall I enjoyed the book and the characters. I had my favorite and had fingers crossed he would be the one. I look forward to reading more from this author.

This is one of those books that as i was reading, i was highlighting a bunch of quotes because they offered terrific advice or would be a great motivational poster. There is a lot of good in this book and then there is the main female and her supposed best friend. As I read further into the story, I wanted to hang the quotes and posters in their apartment.

This is a clean story that has a religious undertone, family values and sibling love.

The story started out very strong for me. I liked where the story was heading and how it was going to get there. I thought unless everyone turned into zombies, it couldn’t go wrong. I was wrong. Somewhere along the way it took a hard left turn and it felt like someone else began writing the story. At the end, there are a lot of elements that come into play which need to be tied up before “the end”. The last 3% of the book felt super rushed and left me feeling disappointed.

The good outweighs the rushed so that I’m able to keep my review to 4 stars and keep it on my “I would recommend” list.

Four Stars

Stupidity should never be a redeeming quality. Blindly following what other people want with no regards to your needs crazy. I don’t know how Glynnis survived the way she did. Who trusts someone that they hardly know as much as she did. I’m truly upset that the lead character was so awful. Is that how some people truly are? I rated it four stars because the author wrote an interesting story. The moments where we find out about the axe murderer and Corin are my favorite parts. I really liked Corin. He wasn’t traditionally handsome or build with muscle. He is a normal guy if a little stalker-ish. I actually liked how he wrote everything down. I makes you feel better and it almost takes a weight off of you. He was super adorable for being shy like there are no shy guys anymore. I thought he was very alpha male when he went after Glynnis. I liked the story but could do without Glynnis. The story was really well written and I would read more by this author. Hopefully all the leads have actual personalities that they developed from learning about themselves and not what others think their personality should be. Also we need to redefine the term best friend. Because Kenley was not it.

Operation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk is a great new adult book that is well written with engaging characters. This is the type of book that you can easily lose yourself in for an afternoon as you fly through the bool quickly and easily.
I always enjoy this type of story as it is exactly what I like from reading in general. It allowed me to switch my brain off for a few hours and to just sink into a story that is interesting. I found the characters to be really relatable, it was so easy to imagine yourself in their situation.
The story flows well on this book. It has a great pace about it and the writing is strong and consistent. I very much enjoyed this book and will be sure to check out more from this author in the future.

Wow! What to say! This ran me through a gambit of emotions. I went from love to hate on so many of the characters it was crazy. Glynnis is so insecure about herself and all of her decisions. I’m not gonna lie…at time it was annoying. Just once get a backbone girl! This starts off wonderfully and goes on from there. A little tedious at time but Corin more than made up for it. I really can’t say enough good things about him. He is so sweet, nervous and unassuming. Not your typical book boyfriend. No Alpha at all. But dang he has all the adoration for her that would be required. I love how he calls her his “dream girl”. He was definitely my fav character.

One of my favorite scenes is when he talked to her on the phone for the first time. He is so nervous and unsure. It’s weird to read about a guy who isn’t completely confident. Maybe all guys aren’t but they sure act like it. Corin doesn’t. Don’t get me wrong..I love it and it makes him all the more endearing to me.

Her BFF and her parents are different. At times they are more than a bit weird and irritating. The ending seemed a bit abrupt. I guess I wanted a bit of groveling or something to make the relationship seem like it was now going in the right direction.

Operation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk is a young adult romance. What does a young lady do who has been burned by love? She meets not only one but two young men who could capture her heart. Corin is one who captures her heart and Daniel who captures her head. Which should Glynnis choose?
This is a sweet romance that reminds us that love in youth is complicated. I like the characters and the story is relatable. I was hoping that Glynnis would choose the best young man for her and have her happily ever after. I enjoyed the story and the characters and hope to read more from this author in the future.

This is a new age story that is creative and engaging. I enjoyed how this story was able to pull me in right from the beginning. I found that I was easily able to connect and relate with the characters. This is a story about a young woman who feels that she will never find the right boyfriend. But then she meets Daniel and she meets Corin. She finds herself with options but which one will her heart chose and will she agree? I highly recommend reading this book to find out.

Operation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk is a new adult romance story with a little drama, some angst, emotion, hidden agendas, revelations, danger, revenge, friendship, humour, surprising developments, and a love triangle. I initially thought the story was going to be a little predictable, but Ms. Zenk added a twist that definitely gave some excitement to the story. This is also my first read by Ms. Zenk.
Glynnis hasn’t had much luck when it came to her love life. Her long-term boyfriend leaves her- for another GUY! And when she finally decides to get back out there, she has one disastrous date after another. We follow along as Glynnis traverses college life, social media, and dating. She meets Corin, and then Daniel is added to the mix. One is quirky, goofy, and awkward- while the other is suave, confident, and successful. Glynnis has a dilemma, head vs heart. What will she decide? But not everything is as it appears…
The story contains some humour and emotion which help to give the story balance. But there was also a lot of texting/social media posts/and blogging scenes- but I’m not sure that there needed to be quite so much of it as I felt that it interrupted the flow of the story at times.
If you like angst, new adult romance, realistic and believable young adult characters, and a twist to your storyline- then this is the story for you!

Thank you, Ms. Zenk!

The story Operation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk is a new adult/romance book. It is a story that drew me in from the beginning and I found myself not able to put it down until I had finished the last page. I loved reading about the main female character and Corin. She is a young woman who has not been lucky with relationships. Even though he is the opposite from what she should want she finds herself drawn to him. There is an attraction and spark between them. Corin is a young man who doesn’t have a lot of experience in relationships. He finds himself pulled towards a young woman. What does the future hold for both Corin and the main female character? There is also Daniel that comes into the picture. He seems to be the one that everyone believes she should be with. Will she choose the one with her head or her heart? Read this book to find out. I grew to care about the main female character and Corin with each chapter that I read. I was rooting for them to find happiness. The other characters that are introduced in the story are interesting and intriguing. They all have their own part to play in the story. I enjoyed reading about the bantering that goes back and forth between the characters which at times had me with a smile on my face or laughing out loud. This is a book that was enjoyable to read and one that I would recommend.

It’s safe to say my love life stinks. As if getting dumped for another guy by my long-term boyfriend isn’t enough, my hopes at finding a boyfriend get crushed with a string of disastrous dates.

But then I meet the strange bus boy who has been staring at me for the last three months. He’s awkward, goofy, and has no fashion sense. Corin is the exact opposite of what I should want in a boyfriend, but I feel drawn to him in a way I can’t explain.

There’s also Daniel. Smart, charming, successful, and well-dressed. He’s the perfect man, the kind of guy I should want. Even my family is convinced we’re meant to be together.

Somehow, I went from the girl with a catastrophic love life to a woman with one too many options.

Now I need to decide whether to follow my head…or my heart.
