Shift Happens: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 2) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Sara Oxton

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes, #2)Shift Happens by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Shift Happens by Carrie Pulkinen a five-star read that will have you howling. This is number two in the New Orleans Nocturnes series, and they could be read as stand-alone, but I have loved them as a series as they just create a great backdrop. Sophie made me howl so much, she has major potty mouth, but it suited her character so well, in a weird way it made her more lovable to me. Trace is sublime, there is something sweet about him that will make your toes curl. The story is great, there are twists and mixups that will just make you chuckle, the chemistry is so explosive it should come with goggles. Do not miss this great read as it really will make your day.

License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Lianne Probert

License to Bite (New Orleans Nocturnes, #1)License to Bite by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

License to kill is a paranormal romance, but has a very different, and more current feeling, to others I have read in the same genre.
Jane is a travel blogger and is visiting New Orleans during Mardi Gras, with her best friend Sophie, to experience everything there is to offer and document it in her blog. The girls find themselves slightly worse for wear and end up being rescued by dashing, yet brooding, vampire Ethan. The following day, still thinking about Ethan, Jane is fatally wounded in an accident and Ethan is forced to bite her in order to save her, but there is more behind his decision than first thought.
I really enjoyed the fast pace of the story, it fitted well with the Mardi Gras setting. And the characters are fun and flirty, not your usual vampire story types, which made it even more enjoyable.

License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen is a fun story to get lost in for a few hours. As always I love reading Carrie’s stories as they are fun and quirky and the characters just crack me up. Carries books speak for themselves so no need for me to go into the story with you. Richardson is a new author to me but the synopsis of the book grabbed me immediately (the beautiful cover definitely didn’t hurt either!). I found the story and characters to be beautifully developed. This was a book I truly enjoyed beginning to end and found myself not wanting it to end. Just extremely well written. Can’t wait to read more!

This was a super fun read. Jane seems like a spoiled little rich girl until she meets a drop sexy vampire while in New Orleans. Being the adventurous woman that she is, her NOLA adventure goes a little awry and she finds herself in deep water. Waking up dead has its advantages, like the hot vampire who sired her but when you have an aversion to blood, it can become downright tedious. If you want a good, easy, fun read, then I recommend you read this book. It sweet and sexy all rolled into one. Go ahead, read it, it does bring about smiles and some giggles from time to time.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.

This is a fun Paranormal Romance set in New Orleans. Jane comes across as entitled and spoiled in the beginning of the book. Considering that Ethan is a brooding, depressed vampire, they actually balance each other out. Not to mention that as the book goes on, they bring out more and more of the best of one another. While Jane did annoy me in the beginning of the book, her good qualities really come out as the book does on.

The story is good one too and not necessarily one I’ve read before. Not to mention Jane’s aversion to blood. It is refreshing to read something different in a paranormal romance. Then there is the frustrating feelings Jane and Ethan have for each other. Yes this part has been done before, but the author still makes it entertaining.

If you are a fan of Paranormal Romance set in such an interesting city, this book is for you.

License to Bite (New Orleans Nocturnes book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen is a 3 star read.
Jane Anderson is a travel blog writer, she is on a month long trip to New Orleans with her best friend for her blog, she has to deal with her father, the governor of Texas, trying to treat her like a child and make her come home, but she catches the eye of Ethan and her life might be about to change.
Ethan Deveraux is a vampire living in New Orleans with his sire Gaston, when he sees Jane in a bar he’s sure she’s his lost love, turns out she’s nothing like her and Ethan isn’t sure what he’s letting himself in for when he saves Jane’s life.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and while it wasn’t my favourite book I would recommend to readers to try this for themselves as everyone’s taste is different.

Sweet Salvation (The Protectors Series Book 3) by Toya Richardson – Review by Angela Hayes

Sweet Salvation (The Protectors, #3)Sweet Salvation by Toya Richardson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sweet Salvation is the third book in The Protectors series by Toya Richardson. As Ms. Richardson is a new to me author, I really didn’t know what to expect from her story- but the blurb intrigued me enough to want to one click a copy and explore it. This is a great paranormal romance, with shifters, fated mates, drama, danger, suspense, trauma, action, revenge, and emotion.
Josh could never have imagined that a trip to Spain to visit a supernatural community would turn into such a high-stakes adventure. The last thing he expected was to connect with his fated mate. But there is much more to the story and situation than first appears, and much hanging in the balance. What will the future hold for Josh and Manuela? This is well worth the read to find out.
I came into this series at the wrong end- as this is the third book. It could be read as a standalone, as I discovered- but having said that there were a few occasions where I felt that knowing what happened in those previous books might have given me more insight, and background information to what was happening here. So, I will definitely be going back to read the previous books to see if I am right.
If you love a great paranormal story with action, adventure, suspense, and a wonderful romance- then this is definitely the book for you!
Looking forward to the rest of the series now!

Thank you, Toya Richardson!

AHHHH! I absolutely loved reading Carrie Pulkinen’s book Licensed to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy which is the first book in the series New Orleans Nocturnes. I was excited to read this book as I used to live in Louisiana and LOVE New Orleans and all the paranormal that surrounds it. Jane goes on a girl’s trip to Mardi Gras with a few friends, she didn’t realize she would end up in the arms of a vampire and wake up as one. The irony of it all this is blood makes her faint so how can she pass this? Can Ethan help her get her license? What comes of these two? I love Jane and Ethan; their banter and chemistry is amazing. This story was addicting from the first chapter and I can’t wait to read more of this series!

License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy by Carrie Pulkinen is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. If you are looking for a lighthearted read this is something to grab. The story is about Jane Anderson who takes a girls trip to New Orleans. She is spoiled and not used to being told no. In walks Ethan Devereaux the town’s hottest vampire. A case of mistaken identity is soon figured out and Ethan needs to figure out how to get Jane to become less leary of blood.
I enjoyed the banter between the two characters especially as Ethan tries to train Jane for her license so she doesn’t get staked. This isn’t the same old vampire story. The characters are fun and there are many laughs in this story. I look forward to what happens in the series next.

A new series by a go-to author of mine I jumped at the chance to read this and I wasn’t disappointed. I have read various reads from her and each one draws me and captivates me until the very end, so this read was a must-read!

For this being a quick read, it really is full of content, but left me wanting more from these characters. I absolutely loved this read, its a mentally visual read and I loved picturing New Orleans as its setting, it was quirky, funny and has brilliant chemistry between the characters that I loved watching develop.

There was something about Jane & Ethan’s relationship that really steady them both yet brought out the best in each other in different ways. I loved the friendship between Jane & Sophie and with that ending, I can’t wait to see how Sophie’s story goes!

I highly recommend this read, and ill be eagerly awaiting more from this series!

I just love supernatural romances and throwing in comedy really just makes it more enjoyable. This is the first book by this author I have read and also the first book in the series. I was smitten from the very beginning. The characters are just so down to earth and I just fell in love with them.

The chemistry between Jane and Ethan is quite unique. I love that she really wasn’t what he was expecting. The author does such a great job of creating the supernatural world and being set in New Orleans just really makes it even better. I like how there is a mix of supes and a small handful of humans. I like that Jane was her own person and not the reincarnation of Ethan’s Vanessa. The way that they both deal with everything just makes it better. I am very eager to read more from this author and this series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book although it’s hard for me to think of a time when I don’t enjoy save the world kind of stories. In High Fae Academy Year One, by Kaylin Peyerk, it’s not that Tiana doesn’t know who she is, but she certainly doesn’t know about any prophecy. Until of course Orin enters her life. Then that all changes. First it seems like this was going to be one of those fluffy little hot and steamy books but it was quite refreshing to see that it didn’t actually go there. Although the relationships in this story are intense they are all part of building the story. Good characters good world building and a killer of an ending. You won’t want to miss the second book, I know I don’t.

I did think the character development could be better, but I look forward to reading more about these characters. Sweet Salvation by Toya Richardson is the third book in the Protectors Series. This book can be read as a stand-alone although I can see how it would be beneficial to read them in order.
This was an interesting book to read. It was well written and developed well. Although it is a typical story of mates the story itself is much more unique than that. The characters were what drew me into this book. It felt like they went through so much. They were connected with each other and me and the reader.
This is a new author to me but I definitely enjoyed her writing. Her writing style was one that was easy reading. This was a great introduction to this author and I will certainly look into more of her work.

I really enjoyed this novel by Kaylin Peyerk. Usually I lean more towards vampire and shifter novels, so this was a bit of a departure for me, delving in the world of Fae. From the beginning with Tiana embracing the Fae she was meant to be to the cliffhanger ending this novel by Kaylin Peyerk was interesting and exciting. It kept my attention from the beginning to the end, which came as a surprise. I look forward to finding out what happens in the next book of this series.

I just love to find new authors! This is the first book in this series and the first book by this author I have read. I found that it was unique and I just couldn’t put this book down. The characters just really come to life and I felt as though I was there with them. The author has created such a diverse world and I like how there is a balance of drama and romance.

Tiana is such a unique character. I enjoyed how the story wasn’t predictable. It is apparent from the beginning that Tiana is special but I really like how the author winds the drama around her. I totally related to her character and found that the story really begins to paint a wonderful picture and the world develops as you get further into the story. I like how she is reluctant at first but then as the story progresses she adapts to the academy. I really look forward to reading more in this series to see how things progress with the Tiana and the Fae.

I give High Fae Academy – Year One: Fae Paranormal Romance by Kaylin Peyerk, 5 stars.

Ok, I will admit one thing right here — not too long ago, I recently read a book by another author where the main character controlled all the elements and went to an academy, where she was suddenly attracted to five different guys. So when I started this book, I loved the characters, but was expecting a similar story. Well, this author threw me a bunch of curve balls, including one major one (I will not give it away, but you will know when you read it). I literally stopped and had to think about that one. There has not been a book to do that to me in a VERY long time. Yeah I have been surprised by plot twists, but I quickly move on. The addition here was so great, it immediately raised the bar for me.

Now, back to the book itself. The characters were fun and interesting. I feel like we could learn some more about them, but I’m guessing we will as time goes on. The story is great too. Let’s face it, the supernatural academy romace seems to be becoming it’s own subgenre, but I enjoyed how the author handled this. She made it her own, not just another one in a long line. I eagerly await the chance to read book two, I’m sure the author has many surprises in store.

I was drawn to this book from a series I recently read and enjoyed. Plus, I love anything mythical and magical of the sorts. So, here goes nothing: First let me tell you what it’s all about. My review will follow:
This book gives us a glimpse inside of a fantasy world, we follow Tiana, an elemental fae, who can control all five elements but she’s wanted nothing but a regular life. She’s tried to evade the school for High Fae Academy for gifted supernaturals.
A 21-year deflection, a recruiter, Orin, reaches out to her for a Great War. In the midst of a fresh start, an explanation and training under her mentor, she can’t help how she feels for him. Tiana’s powers have minds of their own as they take her life on an unexpected path in this world of fantasy.

4 stars!

High Fae Academy – Year One is a great first book in this paranormal romance series. I do think there could have been more drama with Tiana and each of the men she is training with to hone her powers but overall a fantastic book and a nice concept. The only reason I wish there were more is because I would have liked to see more interactions with each of the men training her, to see her develop her relationships with them instead of choosing her mate right away. Again, I don’t hate this about the book, just an observation. I can guess who she is going to choose and I look forward to watching their relationship grow, and seeing him get over some of his past to be able to look to a future with the new queen. The concept of their being a dark fae counterpart to every light fae is fun, and I really can’t wait to see how Tiana will handle meeting the dark fae. I would definitely recommend this book to any paranormal romance lover, I never got into the fae paranormal romance but this book has changed my mind. It is super interesting to see how the fae are written and their different special abilities. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2.

I loved reading the story Sweet Salvation (The Protectors Series Book 3) by Toya Richardson. Once I started it, I found that I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. It is a story that had my emotions going up and down the entire time. I loved reading about the characters of Manuela and Josh. Manuela is a young woman whose life has turned into a nightmare. She has been captured as well as badly treated. She finds herself rescued by her mate, Josh. She also feels that no one would want her after what she has been through. Josh is surprised to find his mate when he rescues Manuela. He can’t help but feel the bond between them. She wants revenge, even if those actions put her in danger and effects those around her. Can Josh reach her in time? Read this book to find out. This story is written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with the characters, experiencing what they did. I grew to care about Manuela and Josh with every chapter that I read. There are also many other characters that I loved reading about. They are supportive of Manuela and Josh. There are romantic moments as well as times when I wondered what was going to happen next. The book is entertaining and hard to put down. It is a story that I would highly recommend reading.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

License to Bite by Carrie Pulkinen is the first book in her new series New Orleans Nocturnes. I had read her Crescent City Ghost Tours so I knew I had to pick up License to Bite. It is a bit different from the Ghost Tours as it ventures even deeper into the paranormal world but as she has written other paranormal stories then I was not surprised at all how much I liked the story. Add to this that it was a paranormal COMEDY then you can just imagine how much fun one could have with it!
License to Bite gives us Ethan Devereaux who has been a vampire for quite many years and he thinks that his heart will never beat again as he lost his fiancée before he was turned. But then enters Jane Anderson, Governor’s daughter, who seems to be Ethan’s fiancée reincarnated but … well, that is not the case when she wakes up sober (after Mardi Gras and all the drinking she had done the night she met Ethan) and on top of that, she has a huge aversion to blood that is an absolute no-no for vampires … and so our romantic paranormal comedy commences, with bells and whistles and with a deadline of three weeks or …
So, if you like paranormal, romance, comedy and New Orleans, then this book AND series if for sure for you so buckle down and here we go!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a Fae Paranormal Romance and the first in the ‘High Fae Academy’ series by Kaylin Peyerk. Our heroine Tiana, is a ‘Halfling‘, half human and half Fae and so begins her schooling at the ‘Supernatural Academy for Gifted Children’. Tiana discovers that there is a prophecy about her being ‘the chosen one’, destined to end the war between the Light and Dark Fae. Once at the High Fae Academy for Gifted Supernaturals, Tiana meets five sexy male Fae all of whom she feels a connection too but sadly she must choose between them. This is made more complicated as her magic allows her to control all of the five elements and each facet of her magic pulls her towards each of the men, to the element’s perfect match. As well as having to concentrate on getting good grades in her lessons Tiana also sets off on a dangerous ride in order to bring peace to a war ravaged world.
I liked the characters in the story, I found Tiana a strong female lead and I enjoyed seeing how her relationships developed with each of the five Fae competing for her affections. The storyline flowed well and I found myself happily immersed in the story and felt invested in the characters. I look forward to continuing Tiana’s adventures throughout the series of books.

Here’s a bit about Toya and what she’s up to in her crazy author world right now. She writes mainly paranormal and contemporary romances. She’s married with one grown up son who works on cruise ships and has a cat called Masai. She lives near Ipswich in Suffolk, originally from Essex.

At present, she is writing two series. A Paranormal Romance Series, which she is self-publishing. Book three, Sweet Salvation, The Protectors Series will be released 10th April. She is also four book in to a Beach Reads series, which is with a publisher.

She’s also working on a new paranormal romance series called Hybrid Lovers and is partway through Captivated, which is book one. This one is a ménage between two Hybrid angel/vampires and their human fated mate. No release date as yet. A contemporary romance/comedy Christmas Novella is also planned for this year.

Writing has been her passion since a very early age when her mum encouraged her to use her imagination. Sadly, it wasn’t until the death of her mum, who was also her best friend, in 2009 that she started to take it seriously. Her mother’s wish was to see her published, which didn’t occur until 2014. And now, each book she publishes is dedicated to her.

When not writing, or reading, her main hobbies are; cinema, theatre, live bands, gardening, keeping fit, travelling, Formula One racing, darts and spending time with friends.

Releasing Her Power Within (Fae Shifters Book 1) by Madilynn Dale – Review by Bobbi Wagner

Releasing Her Power Within (Fae Shifters Book 1)Releasing Her Power Within by Madilynn Dale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a new author for me and I enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to see what comes next for her. I enjoyed how well developed this book is. Her attention to details made me feel as if I was right there with the characters. I enjoyed how the characters made the story come to life and I had no problem connecting with them. Liz has come to a point in her life that she wants more. Her mother left her a cabin so she decided to take a leap and move there. Now she is starting a new job and a new chapter. The cabin comes with its own mysteries and stories, will Liz figure them out? Will she regret her leap of faith? This is a great story that I had a hard time putting down. I was pulled in right from the start with Liz. I don’t regret picking this book up and neither will you. I highly recommend this book.
