Goddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III – Review by Erica Shoebridge

Goddess of EverythingGoddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A very creepy tale of a religious zealot who delivers pain with satisfaction and kills gleefully. Mother Juana is eerily obsessed with enduring and issuing corporal punishment as a means to gain God’s favour. She also has some supernatural ability and is a master at brainwashing, especially in regards to her son, Gabriel. Gabriel lives his life in service of needy and abused children, and spends so much of his time working with them that his home life begins showing cracks. His wife Consuela is a very interesting character as well. She shows herself to have a wisdom and knowing that seems beyond the number of books she has read. This story is illustrated in great detail, and definitely sends chills up the spine of the reader on many occasions. This book has a way of hooking you in and not letting go!

I started this book and did not want to put it down! Not at all a quick read for me, but I am kind of a slow reader! I found every page super enjoyable as it was very vividly written, and I was in full suspense mode! My famous line to my husband is that I read books that he could watch a movie about, and this one did not disappoint! Get ready for twists and turns galore with this literary treat!

Goddess of Everything: A Blood-Curdling Tale of Truth, Freedom, and Love by Paul DeBlassie III is the perfect book to read as summer turns into the spooky season. I am a fan of supernatural horror, and this book is an excellent one. Gabrie՛l de LaTierra is a psychiatric healer in Aztlan del Norte. The Orphanage of the Holy Innocents is experiencing evil. These two together make an intriguing combination when his mother, wife, and child become involved. I was fascinated by this book, and the author’s writing style. This is such a spell-binding page-turner that it was hard for me to put down. I will absolutely be visiting other books by this author. Seriously, don’t pass this one up.

Not a book to read before bed
This book is an absolute must read for anyone a fan of thrillers mixed with the supernatural
The authors writing style reminds me of the way folklore is told around a campfire, and let me tell you this is one scary story.
Gabriel has some of the best character development I have read in the past few years.  Gabriel chose his career path to help troubled children that come from a rough past. But what future does Gabriel have? Review by Autum Talamante

This book was well written, and the writing style pulls you into the story right away and holds on till you can’t stop reading. The characters of the story mother and son were interesting to read about, and very real like it makes you wonder if this was a book really written about someone. There was a good originality to these characters and story. This story is twisted and complex which wrote a vividly detailed about how there is a dark side to religion. Between the nun’s ability to hurt you with their thoughts and Gabriel and his wife’s vision, it was a rollercoaster of a read as it kept me guessing till the end. There are moments when I felt chills about what I was reading, and I was on the edge more then once.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III is one of the best psychological horror books I believe I have ever read since Stephen King or Dean Koontz. This author has given me the creepiest case of the wiilies that I have ever had. Gabriel has grown up with “Mom of the Year.” She also happens to be Mother Superior. Oh, and did I mention that she has some creepy supernatural powers that she uses to hurt people, including Gabriel, his wife and child? Through the years, we see Mother Juana pretend to be awesome and use her powers to hurt people. Gabriel has always had the power of light on his side. This story is an intense battle of good and evil. Gabriel and his wife, Consuela, are trying to protect their child and the children from the orphanage. Consuela is the one to show that Mother Juana is a mother-in-law from Hell. You can feel the tension and suspense as you read. I love a good story that leaves me so creeped out, I need a night on. Well-written and well-developed, this is a worthy purchase and must-read for all fans of horror and suspense!!!! Paul DeBlassie III is now one of new favorites. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Phenomenal book!

Goddess of Everything: A Blood-Curling Tale of Truth, Freedom and Love by Paul DeBlassie III is a wild ride. I loved every page of this book. I love psychological thrillers; Goddess of Everything adds in the supernatural that makes it even better! The descriptions were lifelike, I felt like I was there seeing everything around me. The characters were well developed. I want to say they were also relatable, but I didn’t feel like I could trust them. Which made for a better story, because I was constantly turning pages and trying to guess what was going to happen next. I would recommend this book to everyone, even if thrillers aren’t your thing. It’s perfect for spooky season. Maybe don’t read it with the lights off! I will say a trigger warning may be needed for scenes depicting child abuse and murder.

Okay, to be fair, this is definitely too graphic for me. With that being said, what I did read was intricate and fascinating. The writing feels like an old storyteller rambling with eerie music in the background. It is definitely spooky and disturbing. Explicit depictions of child abuse so beware!! But the supernatural elements are completely original. Absolutely insane amount of detail and dread in the lore of this story. Definitely must be read during the day with the lights on!!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

DeBlassie has upped the ante with this “blood curdling” story. Unlike any of his other crazy stories, Goddess of Everything is above and beyond normal craziness.

This story is about Mother Juana and her need for…blood, death, obedience and well, everything. Mother Juana’s son Gabriel is torn between his love for his wife, his mother and life in general.

These characters are well developed, enough so that you know if you met up with Mother Juana you would want to run the other way. And if you met up with Gabriel you would see the devotion and love this man has for those around him especially those less fortunate.

The plot of this story is unbelievable, disheartening, and downright disturbing. Way to go DeBlassie. If you enjoy dark stories with a touch of mystery and crazy, this may be one you put at the top of your list.

Like.. What ?! What in the world did I just read ? Those are my immediate thoughts of this book after turning its last few pages.

Goddess of Everything starts in a cemetery with a young boy and his Mother. You soon realize this woman is not everything she seems on the surface with what transpires at the boys fathers funeral.

This is absolutely the definition of a supernatural, psychological thriller. It’s a newer, often unexplored subject that I don’t feel gets touched on to much. It’s fresh. This book is a wild, crazy, edge of your seat ride to the very end. It most definitely is a blood curdling ride as well with its depictions of child abuse, and murder which I feel should definitely have some trigger warnings involved for a more sensitive audience as it’s definitely an intense read! There are tons of corrupt people involved and it’s hard to really trust anyone throughout the book but I do think Consuela was one of the best in this book. As hard as she tried to open Gabriel’s eyes to the evil that was his mother she remained steadfast and strong for him never aggressive or defensive while she let him fight his own demons and wage his battles inside himself. They fought until the very end which eventually paid off. If you can look past the triggers mentioned and are looking for fresh, albeit hard to read, new subject matter in your thrillers this might be the book for you! It’s an absolute nail bitter.

What an unexpected surprise this book was.
Mr DeBlassie has one of the most interesting ways of telling a story that I’ve seen in a long time. It’s almost like sitting around a campfire listening to urban legends.
This dark thriller with some supernatural aspects was yet again an excellent example of this mans talents, he took the normal good vs evil to a whole new level with exceptional world building and character development.

Definitely not for the faint hearted but an AMAZING read.

I’ve read and enjoyed a couple of Paul DeBlassie III’s books before so approached Goddess of Everything with excitement which the book definitely lived up to! In Aztlan, DeBlassie has created a spiritual playground where he can draw on different traditions and beliefs to create a thought-provoking fantasy world.
Goddess of Everything is a dark book, filled with death from the opening scene at a cemetery. There are themes of corrupt power and loyalties as well. It’s intense at times, but in a gripping way that will have you frantically turning the pages.
I particularly liked Consuela, a grounding presence in Gabriél’s life. It is hard being the wife in a book about a mother-son relationship and Consuela brings characterfulness and independence to the role!
For me, this is a four-star book, and I’m definitely keen to read more of DeBlassie’s books. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something different from anything you’ve read before!

Goddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie is the second book I’ve read by this author and honestly, it won’t be the last. It took me longer than usual to finish this book because I wouldn’t allow myself to read it to unwind before bed. I felt that the intricate storyline and attention to detail needed my undivided attention, not the groggy re-reading of lines.
I will admit that I am used to thrillers that have me on the edge of my seat, carrying the book everywhere to get one more page in, and while I was really invested in this storyline, the attraction wasn’t the same. I contribute this to the visual picture and the need to slow down and take it ALL in vs feverishly reading the words for what is next.
I think what had me drawn to this book and the author in general, is how unique I feel that not only the storyline is, but Paul DeBlassie lll can write something so thrilling with a poetic feel to it. I give Goddess of Everything 4 stars.

Goddess of Everything: A Blood-Curdling Tale of the Affection of One Mother for Her Son and Her Son’s Struggle for Truth, Freedom, and Love by Paul DeBlassie III

This book was beautifully written.   I couldn’t get over how well the words painted the visual picture for me.  I think that stuck with me more than o could have anticipated.

This was an interesting story to read, especially as someone who doesn’t like magic, etc.  I found myself fully drawn into the story.

Gabriel had a purpose from the beginning and that was to help the children who were born and raised in horrible situations and conditions.   I’m sure when he decided his career path he had no idea what it would truly entail.

I would recommend this book even if you aren’t in the supernatural genre.  The way this book was written was worth the time.

I give Goddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III, 4 stars.

This was a very unique and interesting story. The way it is written reminds me of the stories passed down from generation to generation by the peoples whom have roamed this earth for many, many years. It also seems fable-like, there is definitely great wisdom to be found within the story. The author has a very unique style of writing, relying less on spoken dialogue and more on giving us very detailed descriptions of what exactly is happening. I will admit, it took some getting used to, but once I got used to it, I was pulled in. This is the essential good vs. evil, but the evil is in hiding. I could not wait to find out who would prevail.

This is very much an adult book, as some of the subjects maybe disturbing to the younger people and hose fainter of heart. That being said, if you are interested in a suspense/horror tale with supernatural elements that also teaches you a lesson, this book is for you.

This novel is a Thriller and is just under 200 pages. This story follows Gabriel, a psychiatric healer, Consuela, his wife, and Juana, his mother. His mother is the Superior of the Nunnery and the Orphanage. He tries to counsel the children at the orphanage and when Gabriel discovers children come up missing with no explanation, he starts asking questions that his mother does not like. His wife pushes him to discover these children are being sacrificed. This ritual is done to make Mother Superior and her nuns immortal. Then the unthinkable happens. Dear mother has kidnapped their four-year-old son. This is most definitely one of those books that will have you on the edge of your seat.

4 Star!!!!

I took a little break from my favorite genre to read the second book by this author. I was taken down a supernatural mystery road full of intirgue and drama. I was definitely on the edge of my seat reading this book. The author has really written a chilling supernatural thriller that grabs the reader and keeps you till the end.

I found that I was really sympathetic to Consuela as she tries to open her husbands eyes to the evil that is his mother. It really is a complex story and I like how the author is able to keep the flow and drama going. It is so hard to see the evil in those we love or those whom we are supposed to respect. I find that the author has really written a good plot and you can feel the inner struggle of Gabriel as the book goes on. I must admit that even though this is not my go to genre it was a nice escape for a lazy Sunday.

I really enjoyed reading The Goddess of Everything from Paul DeBlassie III. This is one thriller that will and did keep me sitting on the edge of my seat as I followed the story of Gabriel de LaTierra, a psychiatric healer. This is one that really takes it time to build and find that smashing ending, but I felt all the time spent was well worth every second. I found myself really connecting to Gabriel and becoming invested in his journey and the layers that surround it and build. I have high hopes this is not the last of this type of novel from DeBlassie, because I will be there to devour it next. I do look forward to seeing whatever new comes from him. This is my absolute favorite of his so I hope he can top it! This isn’t the first book that I have read by this author and I have to say I do enjoy his writing style.
